04/27/11 DCL's WONDERful LA-VANCOUVER REPO ON THE WAY TO ALAKSA

Thank you for the heads up! I am making notes as I read all this, so when we re-book from this one, I'll know what I want.:thumbsup2
You're welcome!
Look at some of the other threads about cat 8's and stuff- there are some that show pictures.. and some I wouldn't be interested in at all either. they look like attic rooms (because of the slanted wall/ceiling) and most don't have curtain dividers, tv on same wall as bed OR across from bed but not across/visible from sofa- and one even has a drop down bunk on one side of the regular bed- and then around the corner of the room is the sofa.. no curtain.... tv not visible from sofa. Not good if you have kids or if you're like us and have one early bird and one nightowl LOL

I need to make notes which rooms I don't ever want also. :lmao:

Got room for two more? :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Welcome aboard!!!!

Welcome aboard!!!!

I bet when they finish selling those early voyages out, the excitement will die down, and they will lower the category on some of those "attic" rooms. They are definitely not good for the claustrophobic or families with kids. I do like the divided rooms that are like little suites, or the double porthole rooms. The category we usually book is now on the front or back - they have just about priced us out of the mid-ship verandahs :sad2:

On line check in is acting funny, good to go for the repo, but not getting on for the Alaska cruise.

I got most of the way through it the other day...I think because we are B2B the system just has seizures...one would think that by now DCL would have figured that part out....

oh wait -

This is Disney - they REPEAT their mistakes, right????:scared1:

OK - I have been going back and forth on this one and Alaska because my cabin mate cancelled but as of now I am PIF for this one and cancelled Alaska. Hope to see some old friends again.

Sandy

Sadly my husband and I will no longer be able to go on this cruise. He is being transferred from Texas to Washington (state), and we will not be able to get the time off for the cruise. Please remove our names from the roster, FE list, etc :( We are now cruising on the last Alaska cruise, and we hope to see you there!

Sorry to hear this... BUT... at least you will be cruising a bit later.

We did the check in last night and didn't have any major problems, except that it would not accept my Seattle flight for the return segment. So I just put Vancouver since we are doing it on our own. I found out that our travelling mates were switched from gty to a cabin, however, we are still waiting for ours. We are still trying to figure out our tour plans, has anybody ever used Starline tours? We are looking at them for a general tour from Anaheim for our first day. Can't decide between the City Pass and Double Decker tours in San Francisco. My husband seems to think that we would do just as good doing it on our own. Any suggestions?

So is anybody else excited about the new Outlook Cafe on the Wonder? It was built for the Alaska cruises. The pictures look beautiful and I understand there is a spiral staircase from the Cove Cafe. I can see myself curled up in one of those comfy chairs with a vanilla latte and my Kindle :cloud9:

You are thinking the same thing I was thinking. This will be the perfect spot when we are cruising through Tracy Arm! See you there!:thumbsup2

How does the Outlook Cafe work? I know that you pay for the drinks and coffees, but can you eat in there and does it cost extra? We are usually with kids and have never been into the Cafe before.

I really wish they would allow kids in there during the day for AK cruises.... Maybe just make it closed to kids after 6pm or something like that...... I'd really like to use it during Tracy Arm also, but with the kids I will have to be outside freezing...

We are go it on our own folks 99.99% of the time, and will do so on the repo, but the Alaska ones with some early port departures, and what we want to do in AK and finding the cost comparable we will stick with DCL.

You won't be freezing, it may be cold, but freezing, no. I was in Galcier Bay on 9/11 and did not need more than my turtle neck shirt and a sweater out on deck that day.

The Cove Cafe and the Outlook Bar are adults only. I sat up there a couple of weekends ago and really liked it, nice views, but not as good as being on deck.

That looks wonderful! I was wondering about the new glassed in area I saw - I was sure it was to provide more cover for the AK trips!

I hope both the Cafes are a little warmer this trip. I stepped in to the Cove Cafe on the Magic and turned into an ice cube immediately! I ran back out and never set foot in there again!

At the bottom of the page, it says that snacks are complimentary, and if you buy the specialty mug the coffee is free, otherwise beverages are charged.

I think they probably feel they have lots of indoor places for children, so they are making a little more indoor space for relaxation for adults.

I noticed the coffee mug info, could be worth it if the coffee is better than the stuff at the drink station.

Curious as to the cost.

. I sat up there a couple of weekends ago and really liked it, nice views, but not as good as being on deck.

And, for a day like Tracy Arm, you won't be able to see from inside the Cove or Outlook anyway as people will be lining the rails. But it will be a good spot to warm up and rest.

A good indoor spot for viewing would be a table at the large windows in Diversions. Just a few availble but open to families during the day. (Let's all agree, no one who has a verandah is allowed to take up those :lmao:)

This is not new, by a long shot. I forget when the Wonder was in dry dock last. DW and I normally sail on the Magic, but we were on a 4 day *practice* cruise on the Wonder (spring 2008) ... don't believe it was installed yet.

From my recollection, the enclosure was installed LONG before the Alaska rumors began to circulate
===========

I am not sure if this has been addressed or not (DW is normally online ... not me) ... but, does anyone in a Suite or Concierge Collection know what entertainment is being provided for the REPO or inaugural Alaska? I checked Alfred & Seymour's website ... they will be on the Magic in May ... but not the Wonder. Just curious!
===========

DW and I have taken reservations for about one dozen *guests* for the deluxe motorcoach transfer from DisneyLand to the pier/port. As you will recall, this is a direct, non stop (private) transfer .. no need to go back to the airport, only to board (and pay for) yet another transfer to the pier. Cost is just $15 per person ($16 if paying via PayPal). If we get a very good turnout, excess monies received will be refunded (proportionately) to those who pay via PayPal. Please send a PM with questions or interest.

We hope to post reminders on this this thread from time to time. Let us know if you are ON THE FENCE, or plan to make reservations later on in February or March. FWIW, we cannot guarantee the availability to take last minute reservations, or walk up reservations, as we have to plan accordingly, in advance.

...Snacks are complimentary (scones, pastries (etc) in the dsplay case). Don't forget to ask for your COVE CAFE card. You get one stamp for each coffee drink purchased ... you get the 10th or 11th free (I forget which one). You only need one card per family ... to accumulate a free coffee quicker.

There is no other food service available. There really is no place to bring in food from any of the food stations ... it's more of a relaxed, quite lounge area for reading, quite conversation, WiFi, etc. There are some books and magazine lying about. During past cruises, we generally bring current magazines or paperback novels ... then either leave then in the Cove Cafe, or donate them to the crew library (via a crew member).

I really wish they would allow kids in there during the day for AK cruises.... Maybe just make it closed to kids after 6pm or something like that.

The whole idea of ADULTS ONLY is to attract guests who wish to have a little peace and quiet (hence, then name). There are plenty of children only areas on the ship. Once you hit the 6PM witching hour ... you are smack dab in the middle of the evening show and dinner ... so ... allowing children in the adult only area before that time would pretty much void the area of being adult only, but for a very short period of time after the evening show & dinner. As for indoor viewing ... I am sure there will be hoards of people (including kids) inside Beach Blanket Bingo (TopSiders).

The entertainment area in the front of the ship is closed to children after 9PM, because of adult programming (as well as to allow for a quick sanity check). Prior to 9PM, planned activities are family friendly.

Hope you are all enjoying the cold weather. Alaska should be a nice, warm breeze! :cloud9:
