Here's to
Addiction! The
Disney-Planning variety of that much-maligned behavior, that is.
We've been planning our next trip to
The World since we handed back the keys to our
Fort Wilderness cabin and golf cart in January of ...
2003. And we are now, finally, within less than a month - of being within less than a year - away from our arrival at
The Beach Club. So, to celebrate that momentous milestone, a few days ago I dusted off the
PassPorter for that absolutely wonderful, long-ago, trip . Because I was curious. Would the plans for our - very different in several pretty basic ways - 2016 trip look at all like those for that very favorite one? Would they look like as much ... fun?
The 2003 stay was truly a splurge for us (my daughter, granddaughter, grandson and me). We had never before been in the Parks during the Christmas - New Year Holiday. We had never before stayed at
The Grand Floridian. And we certainly had never before booked a
Platinum Plan. And, though
The Grand Floridian became
The Fort Wilderness Cabins, those nine days were everything we had dreamed they would be. And more. However, unless we were able to spend two or more weeks at
Disney, I would never book the plan again. We simply couldn't manage to sample
, in little more than one week, all (or even most) of the goodies that it offered up on its precious-metal platter. But, we did have such a great time ... trying! For instance, that is me (just below). High above a very frosty Bay Lake on the afternoon of New Year's Eve, 2003-2004.
October of 2016 will be another sort of visit. From its beginnings.
My son-in-law will be with us. And, in
my son-in-law's case, that is a good thing ...

But, unlike 2003 (when we all drove down), three of us (the two guys and my granddaughter) will fly into Orlando (from different airports). My daughter and I will drive. We've booked a two-bedroom suite. So, we'll have a bit more room. But no kitchen to go unused … again. And instead of our golf cart, we’ll have access to
The BoardWalk’s delightful pedal-pushers. We’ll walk into
Epcot. But drive, rather than boat, to
The Magic Kingdom and the
Monorail Resorts.
Because CL comes with the room, we’ll be able to grab breakfast in a WDW Club Lounge for the first time since we stayed at
The Polynesian in the eighties. But we won’t have a WDW Dining Plan for the first time … ever. And that’s because I sometimes prefer an appetizer as entrée. And sometimes we all prefer a nightcap rather than a dessert. But, going plan-bare into a
Disney vacation is a little scary. So, we’re budgeting the cost of a
Deluxe Dining Plan for our meals. And keeping our fingers crossed.
But, you know, having distilled the 2003
PassPorter and our planning for 2016 into the outlines that follow (I don’t do spreadsheets because I don’t have the faintest idea of
how to do a spreadsheet) and looked at them for a day or so – side by side – I’ve discovered that I am just as happily excited – and impatient - for the
new fun to
happen as I was in 2002.
Notes:
I’m not certain that we’ll do the
Specialty Party on our first evening
. I want to do
something that night to celebrate our first trip to
Disney World in over a decade. I just don’t
yet know what. And I haven’t given up on
The Boathouse vs
Raglan Road. But I am still outnumbered four-to-one.
We’ve constructed our daily schedules and chosen our FastPass+ selections (on a rainy day at the beach last month). I’ve submitted our room requests and tentative ADR list to the Itinerary Planning staff at
The Beach Club. And I’ve begun to look for those juicy discounts that I’m told should appear at any moment now.
So, am I ahead? Or behind?
