QOTD: Has anyone tried Disney's kitchen sink before? And, to ask something totally crazy, can you pull off the toppings (cookies, candy bars, cake, etc.) and take them home in a doggy bag and just eat the ice cream?? I'd hate to waste it!![]()

Regarding Christine's bounceback question (I'm a little behind here....holy busy week!).......
We are converted offsiters, so no bounceback for us.
As far as booking another August getaway........its what we would *like* to do, but next summer is the start of new beginnings for Jake so we're not sure where we'll be at. He graduates from high school in June 2014 and will start college in September 2014, so I'm doubtful the last week of August will work for us (depending on whether he attends our local college or one at a distance, he may be moving into residence that final week of August).
After this year's vacation, we will have a decent amount of JetBlue points accumulated, so we should be able to fly free in at least one direction (if not both ways) and we really, really, REALLY want to squeeze in one last family trip before Jake's post-secondary education commences. Bu then there's his job to consider as well, in addition to our vacation time with our employers.
I am thinking we might try to squeeze in a week earlier in August. Or maybe try something entirely different, who knows? The guys would also love to go back to Wisconsin Dells again, and we haven't been since 2010, so that's a consideration too. Of course, there's always that coveted trip to California we've always been dreaming of (but I'm guessing that might be out of the budget for two parents with a college kiddo).
At any rate, we shall wait and see and go with the flow. And whether or not a hurricane hits Orlando while we're there this year and totally changes our opinion of Florida in August![]()
.
January what? I'll be 37 January 11!
As for BB, I'm probably not going to do it. I'd really like to go on a cruise to the Bahamas or something in the Caribbean. Also we haven't been to the Grand Canyon yet, and my son is at the perfect age to do that now. Though honestly I didn't think we'd do the BB for this year, but last year when we were having so much fun we just had to!
You can tell we're in the lull part of waiting on our trips. We're waiting on that 60 day mark for online check-in and then the 45-30 day mark for the Mickey Mail. It's too early to pack. Our ADR's, save for one or two, are all set. Not much else to tweak on the plans. Just kind of biding our time.![]()

Yes, when I just read through two pages of bantering on everyone's ages, it's definitely time for August to hurry up!For the record, I'm on the older end here at 43 (but I don't feel it!!).
Tonight we are starting our countdown to Disney movie nights to help pass the time and build the excitement! Here's the event for the eveining:

And since my kids are a bit old for crafts, everyone has to show up with at least one piece of trivia about Notre Dame Cathedral. It's actually really fun that the boys are so into this!
It was probably just wishful thinking, but I was hoping we could remove the larger toppings fast enough to prevent any mushy leftovers! I think we would only visit Beaches and Cream for the kitchen sink, but we could consider a different sundae if we were simply in the mood for ice cream. As someone who has had both the Vermonster from Ben & Jerry's and the Jim Dandy from Friendly's, the Kitchen Sink seems like the next logical step!Just from other experiences with large Ice cream sundaes, it would be kinda icky to take off the candy and cookies to store for later. They would be wet, soggy and mushy. I think you might want a smaller, but still large sundae which you think your party can finish in one sitting.
That's good to know!Never tried it....but we did eat at Beaches and Cream for the first time last year. I think my kids ordered large shakes. They didn't eat anything else for almost 24 hours! Those shakes were filling!
I was wondering if it could be ordered disassembled, but I guess that probably defeats the novelty of it!We REALLY wanted to try this, but my sister was diagnosed with Celiac disease about a month or two ago, and I'm allergic to a couple toppings, so between us we'd have to remove half the toppings. They used to let you order it unassembled (with about 8 thousand different bowls hahaha!) but no longer do that. We'll still be stopping by Beaches and Cream though!
It looks like you have older children, so you probably have a better chance of finishing it than we do. Best wishes for a successful endeavor! We're going to try this this when we stay at BWI this year!

I love it! I can barely make the kids' dentist appointments six months out, but Disney, no problem!

Thats a great idea! Dh has been so busy lately and with the NHL still playing (he's a Boston fan) we watch hockey every other night! Cant wait to start our movie countdown! Granted older Dd has taken it upon herself to start without us and watches them on her laptop lol
Scored some stuff for the kids Welcome Bags... which I need to post a picture of!...

I was trying to snap it to show my sister without the kids seeing. Ignore my pretty purple toothbrush.
I got each of them personalized Mickey ears (which are not a part of the Twice Upon a Year Sale but WERE part of a sale a week or two ago, so shame on me) and small Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Pluto, and Goofy bean bag plushes. Their grandfather got DS a pair of Woody jimjams, and DD a Belle jimjam dress that I'll put in their bags too. DDs bag also has a pack of Disney princess temporary tattoos so far, and DS is getting a Mr. Potato Head for his birthday that he'll get to buy parts for at DTD. I've finished making their autograph books on the computer but haven't had them made and bound yet. I'm thankful we still have 79 days!
I also made a stroller license plate, but instead of waiting for the Disigner to send it to me with our last name/dates on it, I just did that part myself, so I can't share per their rules. It is cute and piratey though.
Totally unrelated, but I have to brag, DS started walking today. He turns 1 on Wednesday, but he's officially a toddler!

Oh my goodness I'm only 68 days out!!!!! I can't even believe it! I'm so excited! This is the point where everything feels great and can slow down a bit. Once I'm in the 60's we're in the summer and I don't want that to fly-by so I don't mind the wait AS MUCH lol. How about everyone else?![]()

Just paid of Disney!!!So everything for our trip is paid for except the Hard Rock Hotel which I won't pay for until we stay there (but the money is aside for that so really all paid for)! 77 days until we check in at Disney and 68 days till we check in at Universal! So excited...well until I looked at the wather network ( I really shouldn't do that ) and saw with humidity the temp was hitting 45c...for the love of God how can any place get that hot and humid! I'm melting already!
I've been reading about cooling towels on some of the threads and I think they might be worth trying. Amazon.ca has some cooling bandanas which I thought might fit better then getting some of the towels and cutting them up. Anyone used these before? Do they help.
Ok now I have to try not to look at the weather network from now till we get there or I'll be a wreck!![]()
Ok, I have a dilemma of sorts. I was talking to a friend of mine who lives in the Palm Beach area and mentioned we were going to Disney in August. She said she and her two kids would come up for a few days to meet us. We've done Disney together before and do it really well, so that's not an issue. What is though is that her kids will have started back school, so they will only be able to come the second weekend we are there. That Friday night we have BOG ADRs at 8:15, Saturday we have Kona and Ohana and a cabana at the Poly and Sunday morning DW and I have massages booked. The massages I can move or cancel - that's not a huge issue. The whole resort day on Saturday is harder to switch around (we have 8 day PHs for a 10 day trip, so we do need two non-park days) and to give up BOGSigh....Seeing friends is really more important than a restaurant (I'm not that selfish), but am I wrong to be disappointed if I do give it up? What would you guys do? (and I ask here because you guys get it!).
I am so excited to find this thread, we are going August 17 to 23
We've had a break once the Rangers were out, but congrats to you on last night's sweep! We are not Boston fans unless they are beating Pittsburgh.

Here are two awesome videos about making the Kitchen Sink!Never even heard of it but judging from the responses here about it sounds rather interesting. I'll have to investigate...
We've got 10 weeks today!![]()
