any cheap way to try a tri?

Another tri'er here. You definitely don't need to shell out a ton of cash starting out. Ditto a pp'er; look at CL, explore borrowing. There are places that do rent them out but the fees can rack up quickly. Personally, I used my 20 year old bike for my first few tris. Not fancy but it...

Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

Wahoo! Just under 61 hours to go. Safe travels everyone. I semi-completed my costume yesterday... Say "hi" if you see me! I've been toying with the idea of getting black arm coolers and calf sleeves. Think I might be able to find them at the Expo?

I can't answer your question but I'm bib# 1127! In looking at the bib#s posted I'm thinking we might actually be in coral a. That is if they want to make them evenly split. I've run the Marine Corp marathon which had 10k+ runners in it and it does take a while to get up to speed. BUT I'd...

Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

Thanks. I think it's good to make sure you like Tris before tackling a 1/2 ironman but some do full ironman events as their first. You just need to be committed to the workouts. The race itself is just the cream at the top. Re: my PR, you got it. I meant the W&D 1/2 against other 1/2...

Official 2011 Wine & Dine Half and Relay Thread

Oh my, how this thread has grown since I last checked in. I hope everyone's training is going well. A couple weeks ago I finished my first half ironman race which I am super thrilled about but haven't done diddly squat since then bc I was so burned out from all the training. I was really...

    Cinderellas Royal Table & MNSSHP

Wait a minute. I thought the dates "tentatively" came out for MMNSSHP and the 4th wasn't on there. I switched one of my MK days b/c of the dates. I'll be seriously PO'd if the dates change and I need to reschedule my ADR for CRT.

OFFICIAL MNSSHP Guest List - 2011

Thanks for posting the news about the dates. I'm a little disappointed there is no party on the 10/4, as there was Tuesday parties last yr, but luckily we can do 10/6 or 10/7 as well. So a ? for those who have been. We depart WDW the morning of 10/8. I've got two small kids (2 and 4)...

    2010 Tri Thread

Is there room for one more in here? I'm a fairly new DISer and just saw this post for the first time (although I haven't read through the entire thread). I did my first Tri last year and already hooked. This year I'm registered for two Tris so far; an Oly in June and Timberman (HIM) in...

I had completely forgotten about the monorail. Thank you. I guess its pretty obvious I haven't been to WDW in 20 years.

I'll be coming from/heading to BLT and would love to find other DISers to travel to/from with. On another note, and maybe this should be a separate thread, what will people be wearing???? i.e. will you be donning a costume? and if so, what?

    Training for a Half Marathon

Good luck on your 5k. You'll do great. I like having races as my carrot to keep me motivated to do the training. I'll also reiterate to build up slowly. Going too hard, too fast is a surefire way to get injured. There are thousands of plans available, just find one that works for you. I...

    Training for a Half Marathon

Wow! Congrats on your 3 mi in 25 min! I've run almost 1000 miles in the last 14 months and I still can't run 3 mi in 25 min. 6 months is plenty of time to train for a half marathon. I did so last year. Have you looked at the C25K (couch to 5k) plan? That might be a great place to start...

October Flights - Let's Wait and Share

We nabbed non-stop flights (9/30-10/8) on Delta BOS-MCO for $219 pp/rt (taxes included) the first week in Jan. We figured it wasn't going to get much better than that and we really wanted a non-stop.

Woot! I'm registered! Looking forward to it. I don't think we'll do the 5k earlier for multiple reasons; 1. DD2 would need a stroller or babysitter, 2. we're staying off resort Fri night and don't get into BLT until Saturday.

    Drop-side cribs banned!

Another dropside user here. Love, love love my Pali. Never had an issue with it. I agree with pp that this is hardly a real issue. I see it as govt trying to take over one more aspect of our lives. Pretty soon we won't have the ability to make decisions for ourselves.

    Ergo rental in disney?

I'd keep an eye out on CL and at local thrift/consignment shops. I actually found an Ergo at my local thrift shop for only $2.

    What to pack for breakfast/snacks?

I pack whole wheat bagels and PB (almond butter is a good substitute) and bananas, apples, cereal bars with whole grains and dried fruits and nuts. I'd steer away from food with little to zero protein and just simple carbs. This helps keep you feeling full longer.

    Sparkpeople....anyone else use this site?

I joined last spring when I joined my work "biggest loser" program. It's great for tracking calories. I lost 20lbs in 12 wks and won for the women.
