Would someone mind giving me the particulars on shipping Media Mail? I have never done it and would like to try it.

You can go to the PO site and read what can and what can't ship media mail. In a nutshell, it's reading material with no ads, and it could take a long time to get there.

I added the html script for the watch list that tells if anyone is watching your item - pretty cool.

I noticed my stuff seems to be being watched even when my auctions closed LOL!

Don't be discouraged. I know some will come on and say that it's business as usual but I am finding for me just certain things are selling..it's a good time for me to take a vacation break!

Well my DVD and CD did cell :)

Though now I'm waiting for the buyer to complete Checkout.....seems like some buyers take forever to do it! It takes 2 seconds and makes it a heck of a lot easier!

What is up with people charging crazy shipping fees? I've seen CD's, DVD's, with $6.00 and more for shipping and "handling". The handing always gets me - most of the times its just some guy named Joe sticking a DVD inside a bubbble mailer that probably didn't cost more than a quarter! And often they don't even send it priority!

I always send priority simply cuz its fairly inexspensive (provided the item isnt heavy) and its quick.

I always check shipping before I bid....don't want to pay more for shipping than the actual item!!

Think about it <g>..eBay doesn't change a fee on the shipping and handling..and they allow a big leeway there. Some people keep their item low and get interest, and make up for it on the shipping. That's why it's important to look at the total. I may buy a CD for $8, but pay $2 for shipping. Or I may buy one for $2.00 and pay $6 shipping. Then I don't mind the shipping, because I'm paying less in total for the item. By the way..most don't send it priority, but media mail, so they get to keep even more. But again, as long as I don't pay more, I don't really care what the shipping is.

For those who sell books and tapes, etc, Quill (Quillcorp.com) has side loader bubble bags at a great price in their clearance area.
Clearance is at the top right after you go to the site.

Here are the prices for 100 bubble envies (a case). These are great for mailing books. I believe these are the inside demensions. This is a very well known company for those of us who buy office supplies.

901-77651
Side-Loading Bubble Mailers; 11-1/2Wx8-1/8"L $11.99

901-77649
Side-Loading Bubble Mailers; 14-1/2Wx10-1/8"L $15.99

901-77648
Side-Loading Bubble Mailers; 14-1/2Wx12-1/8"L $16.99

901-77650
Side-Loading Bubble Mailers; 14Wx9"L $13.99

901-77652
Side-Loading Bubble Mailers; 9-1/2Wx8-1/8"L $9.99

I am in awe:
My lot of 7 sippy cups with the gnaw marks on the lid sold for $10 plus 6 s/h (then cost me 8.55 to send!)

My DH said it was the most embarrassing thing he'd ever seen, that he would pay me $10 to take them to good will and why didn't I sell our used underwear next.

He complained all the way until I showed him the glowing feedback.

I just received an email about an auction for some videos. The bidder wants to know how much it will be to ship the package (about 3 lbs.) to Saskatchewan Canada. I've looked on the USPS website and can't figure out how much it would be. Any help would be appreciated! :D

I'm not going to say whether $6 for shipping and handling is "fair" or not because there are too many variables - like does this person live 25 miles from the nearest post office - does he include delivery confirmation (and like me can't get it for the lesser fee because the Shipper's Assistant won't work) - does he also wrap everything in tissue paper before placing it in the envelope (like I do) - does he use ten yards of tape (like I do - LOL) - but you've got me curious about one thing.........

WHERE would he get a bubble mailer for only 25 cents? I'd like to get some of those myself!!;)

Check your box - I've sent you a PM!

Thanks!

Ask and you shall receive LOL..check the note above..you can get them for lots less than 25 cents LOL.

We hope you take advantage of this sale and try selling in Fixed Price on eBay!

Regards,
eBay

Why are you still awake and posting???? LOL

Can we use the free Buy It Now without the Fixed Price? Hope this doesn't cause another major overload of people trying to list.. Notice how they keep running these specials during the week? Think that's because most folks tend to list only on the weekends?

I gotta go to bed.. Really need to "get my act together" tomorrow..

Nighty nite!;)

Laura:

On the usps.com site click on CALCULATE POSTAGE on the home page, then on Calculate International Postage. The whole of Canada is on the drop down for which country. I had a Canadian winner last week who apologized for bidding because I have in my particulars that I only ship domestically. The price to ship internationally can be prohibitive, especially for a "cheap" item.

HTH!

Can we use the free Buy It Now without the Fixed Price? Hope this doesn't cause another major overload of people trying to list..

From the eBay site: In addition, the Buy It Now option on Auction-Style listings will also be free ($0.00) on the U.S. Site (www.ebay.com) and on eBay Motors Non-Vehicles listings. This includes listings created prior to June 19.

I like Buy It Now so I think I will use this tonight when I list.

While it can be on an especially big or heavy item..it's not bad at all on the regular stuff I sell..especially to Canada. Most times can go air letter post (people think it has to be a letter, but it doesn't). The sizes you can send for that are listed on the site robin pointed out, when you are checking for prices. The downfall is, you can't use air letter post if you want insurance..once you want insurance...wow! the price really goes up.

Wow, have I been in withdrawal!

I haven't been able to access the DIS boards until last night, and then I still had trouble catching up on all the posts on this thread. On top of which I've had problems with my ISP, and my connection has been cutting in and out.

So, I've been concentrating my on-line time to watching my auctions...

WOW!!!

Thanks to the andale counter, I know that my 28 listings have a total of 646 hits... 15 items have bids and will sell, and those 15 items have a total of 41 bids and 461 hits in all. That is very exciting! The baconbuttie watch list is really cool, too... I opted for the daily email to see the status each morning. Last I checked, I had about 42 watchers.

On advice from this thread, I started exploring my cellar, then did searches on the items I found. There are a few specific authors whose paperbacks I've collected over the years, and they are doing well in lots of a particular series. I even came across some very old family items... that will give me something to work on post vacation.

I can't wait to go on vacation, but I also hate to break this momentum! It seems like some work as you do the photography and listing, but then sitting back and watching the bids come in (or not:( ) takes on a whole different feeling.

I think it's kind of like the stock market... if you can diversify the types of items you are selling, it helps ensure that at least some of them will get bids.

About 1/3 of my listings end tonight... I'll let you know if there is lots of action in the end... I'm very pleasantly surprised by the activity so far!

Thanks again for all the help, folks!

Hi Everyone,

I am brand new here. (Well, it took me over a week to read the entire thread) I haven't started selling yet but I just got my postal scale and I am going tomorrow to set up a checking acct. so I can start listing. I am very nervous. I hope I don't screw anything up.

Welcome to eBay your way to Disney, Martha! And thank you SOOO very much for posting those codes! I'm going to have to check it out myself because I'm planning on ordering some bubble mailers..

This is a GREAT thread to help you get started and deal with whatever problems you may run into along the way.. Don't be afraid - I thought sure that I would "screw up" too, but after one little mistake (I forgot when I made my first listing that everything goes according to the time on the WEST coast and I'm on the EAST coast) it's been pretty smooth sailing ever since..

If I DO have a problem, I just post it on here and someone with more experience is right there to help me out..

You're going to LOVE this - it's SOOOOO much fun!!!

Yaaaaaay eBay!!!!!!

I had a great week selling the things I brought back from NY for my family. They gave me 1/2 of whatever the items sold for. My dad gave me a whole set of trains and track to sell and they ended at $499 with buy it now. Yeah:) Now they are bringing some more junk for me to sell when they visit in July. :Pinkbounc

Wow PatriciaH - your family is a lot more generous than mine. My brother-in-law said he would give me 10%. I don't know if that is worth it for my time in photographing, listing etc. He is a big collector and garage sale expert and has some great things but I just don't know about 10%.

My auctions aren't doing well at all but I'm going to keep trying.

I forgot to add that I think I will always use the delivery confirmation and build the fee into my listing price or shipping and handling. I had not rec'vd any feedback from a buyer and when I checked the DC # on line I found out delivery was attempted on Sat. and she hasn't picked it up. I hope the item doesn't get returned.
