How would you handle this situation?

Tough one..will they send you back the package, so you can see if it's possible you may not have secured it as well as you might have?
I think I would prob give the buyer back her money if it's not found. But then usually, if they refuse insurance and it's something pricey, I'll put it on myself at my expense. But it's a tough call.

I just got this in my emailbox and I believe that it's a fake attempt to get my PayPal password and user ID.

It's fake. They make it look good, by redirecting you to Paypal, but it's fake. Be sure to send it on to Paypal with all the headers. Paypal will never, ever ask for your password.

Wow, we are really quiet today!! Or, everyone is busy ebaying their way to Disney!!

Hope my stuff soon starts to sell so I can build up the savings account before our December trip!

Well, I just crawled out of bed about an hour ago.. :( Was up till 3:30 in the morning reviewing and revising my trip plans for December.. Looks like we may have to change our dates because I can't get the flights we need for the dates we currently have.. I'm also re-thinking my HIFS reservations.. For the amount of time we're going, that's a LOT of money that could be spent on other things and I've seen some other suites (although not "kids suites") for quite a bit less.. Decisions, decisions, decisions.. Sigh................

I listed some more items yesterday and the bids are finally starting to come in.. Now I'm debating if I'll go to the lake tonight or tomorrow - or possibly not at all so I can list like mad over the weekend...

I've been at work for 6 hours already!

We are going in December as well! Never been there that time of the year, but have heard it is wonderfl. My middle DS and I will be celebrating our birthdays at Disney. He, of course, is more excited about turning 5 than I am about turning...., well, more than 5!!

I'm not wild about the time of our return flight, wish it would have been later. I called about the military deal on flights and took what they had. I should have shopped around a little more! Oh well!! If I could get my e-bay stuff to take off, maybe I can get another trip next year!

Hope you have a good time this weekend whether at the lake or listing! My in-laws are taking the kiddos to see Annie on Sunday, so I am hoping to list all afternoon!

#1 - Someone sent me a personal check yesterday for an item they had already paid for via money order.. I'm sending the check back today.. Should I write "VOID" on the front of it first - in case someone steals it or it gets lost in the mail?

------------------

#2 - Gal from Canada won one of my auctions (even though it's clearly stated I only ship within the US).. She went ahead and paid with Paypal - I contacted her (after going to the PO with the package) - and she promptly paid the additional postage that it would cost in addition to what the US postage would be.. Now she wants me to write "gift" on the customs form.. Should I do it? The value of the item is only about $6.50..

I wish they had but what they did was cut off the mailing address, return address and postage label and attached it to a form letter. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the find the item.

Mommy Poppins, you may have already heard this, but be sure that you and your DS get Birthday buttons from each park while you are there. When I did so on my B-day last winter, they had different ones for MK and Epcot (the 2 parks I went to that day). You get lots of special treatment and CMs may surprise you with a special phone call. DH and I were even surprised with complementary champagne at the Rose and Crown when we went there for lunch! It was great.

As you can see in my sig, that's the agenda for our next trip, and why I'm ebaying like crazy, too. DH would rather be with Micky and me than anybody else for his big 5-0, LOL! I guess that makes me lucky!

Boy, my week started off great, and is now fizzling out. Seems like my Andale counter list shows way fewer hits than usual on most stuff for the past 2 days. But, I did get 2 BINs Monday & Tuesday, so I guess I can't complain.

Well, I hope eveyone's weekend is prosperous... May the rain in New England provoke some major ebay shopping!

Nobody but you could cash it, so I don't think it matters. Just be sure she didn't bid on another of your auctions, and that's what the payment is for : )

She's asking you to lie on a federal form. I would just ignore her request. If you feel you need to say something, I would just say..oh, you may not realize it's a US federal form, and of course I'm sure you didn't want me to lie. If she says yes, she does..I would just copy and paste her answer and simply say sorry..no.

I am trying to list my first item on eBay but have a couple of questions. I set up a separate checking account just for my eBay stuff and put a little money in it. I also signed up for a personal account on Paypal. When I list my item, it is going to charge me the listing fee, but then it says I have $0 in my eBay account. What is this account? Is this different than Paypal? I am set up for DirectPay, so I think my eBay fees will be taken out of my checking account, is this correct? Or do I somehow have to put money in this "eBay" account.

I read the Seller guide and still am confused.

Also, is there some disclaimer or something that I should include in my description/payment options, such as "No refunds unless item was misrepresented in some way." What do you guys put down?

Maggie

I have $0 in my eBay account. What is this account?

eBay is sep from Paypal..eBay just owns them both. Do you have eBay all set to be paid from your Paypal account, and does Paypal show you have money? I pay through a sep charge card, so I'm not sure how it takes the money from Paypal for payment. The zero balance isn't wha tyou owe eBay before you put your item up, is it?

I don't mention any type of refund..why give them ideas or have them think I"m already defending my item.

:bounce: Welcome, Maggie! Congrats for taking the plunge! :bounce:

DMRick: Thanks for your help. I have eBay set up to take money directly out of my checking account. So if my eBay account is $0, does this mean they will just take the listing fee out of the checking account. Or do I somehow have to go through Paypal?

I hope I am not being a complete idiot - I mean I have my PhD and can't figure this out!

Also, do you think its best to have the auctions end on a weekend?

Robinrs: Thanks for the welcome.

Maggie

I am convinced I have good ebay luck every other week. Last week I sold like mad (same thing 2 weeks before that), I think I went to the Post Office almost everyday this week mailing out things from last weeks auctions. This week, it is slim pickings on the bids.

Maggie,

Another welcome from me, too. Don't feel bad about your confusion, it takes a little time to get comfy with all this.

As you create listings, your account will accumulate a greater and greater negative balance. Then, once a month, ebay will let you know that they will collect that balance, and will do so within a week or so of that notice. You can, if you wish, opt to pay the balance to date out of paypal at any given time, but if you do nothing, the debit will be made in due time.

I, like DMRick, have a CC set up to cover the charges. If you are having the money direct debited from your checking account, you'll just want to be sure you have an adequate balance there when the time comes.

HTH. Have fun listing!

Thank you Snowgod. I think I just needed to know that it was ok to have a negative balance as long as there is money in the checking account to cover it.

I plan on listing a few things today!

Maggie

Question for all e-bay sellers?

After an auction ends, how long do you give the buyer to respond to you? The listing clearly states that payment is to be received within a specific # of days and that time limit is up tomorrow and I have yet to get any repsonse from the buyer. I've e-mailed several times, including one today. I'm just curious how long everyone waits before they take other action.

Thanks!!!

My auctions all state "communication is expected within 3 days of close of auction, and payment must be received within 7 days of close of auction". If no word in 3 days, I use the ebay payment reminder notice (it's a link in your ebay "items I've Sold" listing).

If I have had no response to my emails by the end of my 7 day period, I use the ebay links that provide contact information. This generates simultaneous emails to both buyer and seller, and includes the phone number for both. Once I actually called someone who had thought she had lost the bidding, so hadn't been checking her email - she paid within an hour of the call. The other time I've used this, the person replied to my email within 2 minutes of receiving the message sent by ebay.

Has anyone purchased a small (or large) wholesale lot on ebay to resell individually or in small groupings? I have about run out of things at home to sell and was thinking about this. What are your thoughts?

Mrs. Snowgod...I have used the payment reminder and sent two additional e-mails to them. How do you get the contact info? I just don't want to jump the gun and sent a non paying bidder notice if there is a problem.
Thanks

Try this link

Scroll down to Contact info from the link above. If this link doesn't work, go into the payment reminder link and select the link for the non-paying bidder info. The contact info link will appear there.

Good luck!
