Can someone tell me how I proceed with this?

NPB question
Hi everyone,

I have a NPB that I went to send a second reminder invoice to today and of course, the email address came back as indeliverable. I went to check the person on Ebay and it now says that the user is suspended. How do I proceed from here? File for fees and relist?

Let me know.

Thanks,

Martha

File for fees and relist?

I doubt you'll see any payment now. File your NPB form, and you'll immediately be taken to the form to get your end of listing fees back since they are naru'd. Be sure to file a block for when they come back. As soon as there suspension is over, watch for their feedback..they can leave it for you when they come back. I assume since their e-mail contact info isn't any good, that may be the reason they were naru'd. Maybe you'll get lucky and the check is in the mail, but I doubt it.

I didn't know there was a problem w/ ebay and cable/DSL users. I too have noticed recently it is taking me 2-3 times longer to access anything there. The other day I went on ebay from work (Dial-up) and it was faster than my home cable modem. I was ready to switch back. Yesterday it took me nearly all morning to list 4 items. I would hit continue then go do dishes or laundry in between each page loading.

I have found that a lot of my 5 day auctions do well too. I use it a lot when I list at the beginning of the week and I want them to end on the weekend.

Last week was an extraordinary week. I didn't have one single item not sell, now if only every week could be that good!!!!

What is your policy for holding personal checks? I have a check from a buyer ($54) who has over 400 positive feedbacks. Should I still hold the check for 10 days? I'm thinking it is safe to go ahead and send her the item without holding the check, but I don't want to get burned. Any help?

Just a note..be sure to put sizes in your auctions. You have something up that really should have a size, since there is no way to figure it out from the pictures. PM me if you aren't sure what it is : )

Yep! I know what you're talking about (or at least I think I do).. I already received an email on it asking about the size.. I'll have to take care of that today - if I ever wake up! I was up until 4 o'clock this morning dealing with eBay stuff and right now I feel like a Mack truck ran over me.. That's the "not-so-fun" part of eBay.. :( Oh well - no pain, no gain - right? ;)

Personally, I'll take a chance on checks up to $15 or $20 - but nothing higher than that.. $54 is a pretty big chunk of change. Can you afford the loss if it bounces or they stop payment?

Hopefully I'm not jinxing myself, but I have never held a check. I don't advertise that fact, of course. My bank doesn't charge me for the first 3 or so, but I've not had ot worry about it. People in the banking business have told me if I was planning on holding them, 10 days may not be enough anyway, and I just don't have the time to fool around with a finished auction.
I do have to admit, that if I suspect an item will go over $100, I usually put Paypal and money order so that cuts down on any possibility of a large loss. I have had people ask if I would take a check when it went over that amount, and if their feedback is all posi's and over a couple of hundred, I usually say yes.

Can you all give me some ideas of stuff that you are selling (and doing very well with!!) on e-bay. I have tons of kids' clothes to list, but I'm sure there is other stuff in my house to get rid of (probably everything in my basement!!)

Anyway, just looking for some ideas! Thanks!

Someplace waaaaaaaaaay back in this thread are specific ideas but your best bet since we have no clue whats in your basement ;) is to search for an item you have then on the left you'll find Completed auctions. Name brands, famous brands (Disney), and collectibles do quite well but then again your junk could be someone else treasure. If you have books and videos compare prices on Ebay to prices on Half.com if the prices look low on both places consider selling these in bundles.....like 3 mysteries, 3 books same author, or 3 kid type videos. It will cut down on shipping costs for your buyers this way.

I personally started with Disney pins, but got discouraged because that market is about saturated. I still sell some, but not with as much of a profit as I now do with other things.

I've mostly gone with odds and ends around my house, and some pleasant surprises incuded lots of paperback books by the same author. Also, now that we buy and watch DVDs rather than VHS tapes, and my kids are older, I had success with tapes. I sold old aerobics videos in lots of 3, and pairs of VHS movies. The childrens tapes did best.

On a recent trip to WDW, I went to the Belz outlets (Character Premier and Charater Warehouse - yes there are actually 2 separate stores in the same mall complex), and found many items for 50% to 75% off original prices. Since not everybody has the opportunity to shop in Orlando, one can find some success with that.

Finally, go to yard sales. The scope of items that can be found is enormous, and it helps if you try to focus on a theme. Like, right now patriotism & support for our military troops is high, and items that enhance that theme are good sellers. The apron I mentioned above that I bought for a quarter and final bid was $14, was a Hallmark branded "Grill Sargeant" apron that had a military motif on the front. Of course, now that I've describe that, the chances of anybody finding another deal like that are slim. But stay open minded - some things that I have made the most money on are things I didn't like personally and thought were a long shot.

If you haven't read all 100+ pages of this thread, you really should scan through most of it. There are a few earlier posts that had lists of items... you may find that helpful.

HTH - Good luck and have fun!

Sometimes it's fun to do searches on things that you DON'T intend to sell - when you see how much $$ you can make, you might change your mind!

Someone here had a problem with an old Trixie Beldon book or something, and when I pulled up the search to check it out, I discovered that people were selling sets of Sweet Valley High books for decent prices. Luckily for me, my sister just moved to NC and guess what she left in the closet at my mom's house? An entire set of Sweet Valley High books! Cool! Now I just need to figure out the shipping and handling, so I can list the set....:D

Thanks everyone! I have read most of the thread. I'll have to go back and look for specific listings of stuff. Then I just need to sit down and start listing. I did list about 18 items a week ago and sold 5. Some of them I relisted, but the other stuff was summer clothing and I think that market is gone until next spring. I need to go thru the fall and winter stuff and start listing that.

Also, we have a character outlet about 20 mintues from our house and I am going there this weekend so I will check it out.

Very possible, but some people (like me!) are looking for swimsuits as most stores have have already taken them off the racks. So where do I go, EBAY!!! I have already bidded on 2 infant swimsuits for my daughter as I never got around to buying her one in the store for our October trip to WDW.

I have done the best w/ playstation games and brand new clothes. I have so many things that still had the tags attached, that I never took back and couldn't find a receipt for now (some are 2-3 yrs old). These went well. I just sold a sweater today for more than I bought it for.

Hi!
DMRICK or Any Ebay Expert Buyer or seller:

(talking as a buyer)
I want to know how do you charge when you buy on Ebay?

I have a paypal account and when I purchased an item it first took my paypal balance and then the remainder from my secondary account(my credit card) since I did not have enough in my Paypal account.

Here is my question: why can't I not charge the whole amount on Credit Card?

I called paypal and they said they first take money out of my paypal account and then the difference can be charged? HUH?
So I took all my money out of my Paypal Account and deposited it in my checking account leaving a zero balance on Paypal. Then, I charged the whole amount BUT the charge showed as a Paypal withdrawal to my Paypal account AND then it showed a Paypal payment to the Auction I paid on.

Am I still protected by charging because if something were to go wrong and i file a claim then the claim(in case the item is damaged, etc) would be against Paypal not the Ebay Seller right?

Second ?? (talking as a seller)
When I pay for Paypal insurance to cover the item just in case I want to return it or it is damaged, does it come out of the sellers account or from Paypal's Insurance account(if there is one). I mean it doesnt make sense that Paypal charges for Buyer Protection and it comes out of the Seller Account right?

I would really appreciate everyones expert input:confused: :bounce: :bounce:

There are barely any "hits" (looks) on any of the items I have up right now and I know that due to the nature of some of them they should have quite a few hits by now..

My niece is having the same problem.. No hits on items that would normally get LOADS of lookers..

Is there something going on we should know about? My fees are QUITE hefty this month due to all of my listings and sales and I don't want to drive the cost up even further by listing more items if buyers can't gain access to see them..

DMRick - where are you????? Help!!!!!

I need to know if I should bother listing tomorrow... :(

Is there something going on we should know about?

This afternoon I couldnt even get on Ebay to research stuff. But Half.com worked fine and listed an item for the kids with no problems.

Is there something going on we should know about?

There is a real problem with eBay, IBM (running ebay) and DSL and cable. It's on the eBay community boards. Not everyone is having a problem, but I sure am. I could take a nap in the amount of time it takes to bring up my own page of listings (or lack there of)

This is a slow time of year compared to other times according to most people I have talked to, and the eBay numbers are way down. People go on vacation in the summer, some places (GE) have shut down, and the weather outside is beautiful. If you ask some people, collectibles sell very well this time of year, and some people say they are selling as usual.
I'm not listing right now because of all of the above, or at least the part that pertains to me.
It really depends on what you are selling, and who is online to look for it. For me, I can't even research what I have to sell (I don't sell my usual stuff this time of year), because I am crawling on my cable, just with eBay. I'm enjoying the time off, so it's not a real hardship for me. I've taken the time to have the auctions ready to go, the pictures taken, and the packing done and ready for items to go. When I see things pick up, I'll list.

I have my first buyer who has requested insurance when I ship the item. Can anyone give me some quick tips on what I have to do, etc. Is this something that I have to go to the counter at the post office to take care of?

Thanks!

Yes, you do. FIrst it depends on value, which would then determine the cost. One amount is for items under $50, and another amount is for items over $50
