I finally did it! I've listed 10 things (and working on more in between watching WDW Unwrapped on Food Network and posting here...), and while it's taking me awhile to list each item, it is truly MUCH easier and more user friendly than I expected! I'll check in with my results after my first week is over - wish me LUCK!! :D

My three day experiment went well. All of my items sold and for much more than I was expecting. :)
I also go bids shortly after listing them all. I may keep the 3 day thing going for the summer.

C.Ann,
I wanted to say thank you again for starting this thread:) , I sent you a PM a couple days ago, I forgot you were heading to the lake LOL:o

Well everyone, I had a great week. Out of 42 items listed, 33 sold, some for more than expected! I think by the time all is said and done tonight, I will have about 32 more up (including 5 second chance offers.) I will probably put up at least 20 more Tues. night and maybe more on Thurs. night as well. Hope everyone else had a great week too.

I'm new to this site and have just come across your e-bay thread! I'm glad to see there are a lot of other e-bayers on here! Our WDW trip is just a few weeks away!!!:bounce: I've finished up on a round of listings that closed last week. I've still got a TON of stuff to sell, but I'm wondering if I should wait until we get back home to list them. If I listed them now, they would all definately close before we leave, but we'll be gone for over a week and I'm thinking that a number of payments may not make it to me before we leave. I don't want to make buyers mad by having their shipments delayed when they've paid on time. Does that make sense? What would you all do? Thanks!

You should wait until you get back to list anything else. If you don't have enough time to pack and send your items in a timely manner you will risk getting a deserved negative feedback. I am leaving at the end of the month and I figure my last auction ending date is 6/16. I give my buyers 10 days to send payment and I leave on 6/28 so that gives me 1 extra day of wiggle room for a late check. So ... I can put up 7 day auctions tomorrow and then 5 day auctions until Wednesday. I currently have 9 auctions up and running, 4 with bids :).

My auctions did great this week and I've added 7 more tonight. Now if I can just find time to go up into the attic and start cleaning it out I'll be all set to list next Sunday. I must say it was a time saver to use the laptop to type descriptions on while I watched the Disney Unwrapped show.

I'd get everything ready to list them.....type descriptions into a word document and find boxes and figure shipping charges but then I'd wait until your return home to actually list them on Ebay. If you list while you are gone and dont have access to a computer then you wont be able to answer any possible questions that may be sent to you.

and how do you thank a person for making your biggest wish come true ???

I think you send them half of everything you've made LOL!!

Seriously, you just needed a boot to start. You did all the hard part, and you should only be patting yourself on the back.

I've had a good week, but it's hard to actually report numbers, since I put up several fixed listings, with muliple items..my smaller items.
I've had some Second chances (and 12 SC'swho didn't bite..darn them!). I don't like to put up my larger items as fixed, since they don't do as well, plus I like to see some action. I believe I've only had one or two auction close without a bid, for the past seven days and I've relisted one of those. But I have a big batch still going, and while last week we had tons of BIN's, this week looks to be slower, hopefully with lots of bids coming in the end. I had tow BIN's this morning, so hoepfully they get some more.

I close up shop 2 weeks before a big vacation to give people time ot get payment to me. Once I pass 10 days, I let them know if payment comes while on vacation, I will ship such and such a date. I usually start aucitons the night before I come home..since I get so many BIN's, I don't want to make people wait. If I"m just going camping, and I have my laptop, I'll start them sooner, since I can correspond on the computer.

The idea of being retired, was so we could pick up and go, so I'll be listing with gaps for the summer, to enjoy the warm weather. I'll sell what I make at the campgrounds, so I'll still be making money. My items slow way down traditionally in the summer, since they make good gifts, so it's a nice time to take a break. Last week, however was way above last year and the year before in number of items sold, although for lower prices each. The items that are more "garage sale" and antiques, etc, sell anytime, so I'll be putting more of that stuff up during the summer when I list.

Hi everyone. I haven't had much time to check in but I have a couple questions. Well it's been a week since the bidder from the Ukraine won my auction. I haven't heard a thing from this person, I'm wondering how to get this resolved? Am I able to get any fees refunded or anything?

And now for my second question. I haven't had much experience shipping to Canada but decided that I would ship there. So today someone won my auction for some little girl's clothing and I was wondering what is the best way to ship that?

Thanks!!

Laura

Just checking in... Had a LOOOng Sunday!

First of all I had to give a tutorial on "how to sell on ebay for dummies" to my sister and her 36yo son, my nephew. The funny thing is they BOTH work for the Post Office. They are overwhelmed with Ebay stuff so they want a piece of it!!

I closed two Buy It Nows yesterday and sold my only two that ended today to the same bidder! I have a bunch that end Thursday and another bunch that end next Sunday. Right now I'm too tired to think so I'm calling it a night.

I broke down and ordered a postal scale so I can stop GUESSING on the weight of an item. It makes it so much easier! I feel like I have a real business going on now!

 Welcome to the new people on the thread!

Loving Ebay,

Robinrs

And now for my second question. I haven't had much experience shipping to Canada but decided that I would ship there

I ship just about everything that fits within the size air letter. Don't be fooled, packages can go that way too. I never send UPS, because they get hit with a really high service fee, in addition to customs. They can't get insurance that way, but it's way to expensive to send it the way they can get insurace. Speaking of customs, I won't lie on the form as most Canadians ask..it's not a gift, it's merchandise. Be sure to put the total as the total of the sale, not the total with shipping..it will save them some custom payments, and it's perfectly legal. Be sure you have something in the box with your name and number, in case they have a question with the address.

As far as Ukraine..once you are past 7 days, you can fill out this form (I assume you sent out a reminder form eBay already?).
You send the Payment reminder first..then I wait two days and send the non-paying Bidder alert, and follow it up 10 days later with the Request your final fee credit. You are not obligated to wait past 7 days before listing it, (I always wait 14) if you had a second higher bidder, you can offer it through second chance.

Ok, I have a PO question. I know you can free DC on Priority items by printing labels from the PO website. I do that on most of my packages, except for the rare times it doesn't want to co-operate with me.

My ? is, a while back someone posted about getting DC for .13 on FC items if you print it from a website. I tried downloading the program they listed but I can't get it to work. Can anyone help me with this? I have a lot going out tomorrow and REALLY prefer to have DC, so any help would greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What doesn't work on it? You mean it won't open? Did it have to be unzipped? Did you have your virus protection turned off when you d/l it? You are talking about the UPS shipping assistant, correct?

...that I officially have my first bid! It feels great! :D

Congrats Lalapodip - I know how you feel. I now have a bid on three of my four items. They all have the same bidder though who of course lives in Brazil but is going to have it shipped to the U.S.

Just got through adding up my sales from last week. I made a total of $73 with 7 eBay auctions but also had 5 non bid auctions as well. I also made $23 on amazon.com. Almost $100 for the week isn't bad but keep in mind that it doesn't include eBay or Paypal fees. 1/2 goes in my vacation fund and 1/2 goes into my 3 month old daughter's bank account. I sell mostly children's and adult books, videos, DVD's, music cassettes and a few Disney pins that I am weeding from my collection. Happy eBaying everyone!!! And may this week be even more successful. :D

******* HELP !!!!!!! **********

My wonderful DH has given the green light for me to sell his ENTIRE collection of Hess trucks on eBay as his "contribution" to my trip to Disney in December!!

The question is - how do I do it? I know that "reserves" trun people off, but I don't want to "give" them away either!!!

What should I do? And should I run the auction only on the weekend - for 3 days - to get a bidding frenzy going?

They're all in EXCELLENT condition - as are the boxes - and never played with at all...

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

C.Ann,

When I sell collectible items (in my case Disney pins) I first do an eBay search on all like items, both ongoing auctions and completed auctions, to see what they are normally going for. I will often start my bidding at the lowest price the item has recently sold for. I know the bidding wars often begin with the low starting bids of $1.00 but I would rather take my chances of my item not selling than getting $1.00 for it when it is worth $25.00. Or you can use the reserve option like you stated. Good luck!!!
BTW, what is a Hess truck?:D

WooHooo!!!! My first "official" auctions have ended. My closing for the day was $59.22 mainly for DD's old clothes and my ex's bowling shoes.

I also sold a pair of concert tickets (not much over face value which is fine as long as I didn't lose.) The winning bid came with 15 seconds to go in the auction. *Whew*, that was close. LOL
