yet another stroller rental question

Hi! We are traveling with our 2 DDs. DD#1 is almost 6 and DD#2 is 4 months old. I had planned to rent a double stroller knowing that DD#1 will not be able to walk the entire day. I will "wear" DD#2 most of the time, but I want to be able to put her in a stroller when I start to get tired. It just occured to me (duh) that DD#2 probably cannot ride in the rental stroller because she cannot sit up yet. Correct?

At this point (we are leaving in a few days) I have decided to bring our rather bulky stroller for DD#2 and plan to rent a single stroller for DD#1 to use as needed. I had really hoped to avoid dealing with a stroller on the bus, but I cannot come up with a better option right now. Any suggestions?

Have you ever tried DD#2 in an umbrella stroller? Take her to WalMart and see if she can easily sit in one. Don't buy it, though... buy one when you get here. At $10 a pop, you could use it while you're here and leave it behind.

The strollers are not really good for babies that can't sit up yet, as they are hard. You may be able to prop her up with small pillows, but not knowing if that will work is a big chance.

I'd say try the umbrella stroller. It's your best option. It will cradle your little one even though she can't sit up yet, it's incredible easy to take on the tram and buses, and when you're not using it, you can hang it on the handle of the rental stroller.

We are having the same issue in planning for our upcoming trip, except our DDs are 2-years-old and 4-months-old. My husband and I are both tall and those cheap umbrella strollers are awful for tall people...we literally have to bend at a 45-degree angle to push those and that really causes some issues by the middle of the day. I scoured Craig's list and bought a really lightweight Peg Perego umbrella stroller for $40 and a Chicco one for $30. We're taking them with us. They are used, but in good shape, are lightweight and they are much more comfortable for the kids and for us. You might be able to get by with just buying one and renting the one at the park. If you're on the shorter side, then a cheap umbrella stroller might be your best bet, though (I'm 5'9" and my DH is 6'4" and those are both way too tall!). I had also considered just renting a double at the parks and bringing blankets to make a place for the baby to lay, but decided that might not work and if I didn't have my own strollers I'd be SOL!

I say buy one of those inexpensive umbrella strollers that recline. They run around $40, but they are lighter, making it easier to lug on and off the buses. You could even do as another poster recommened, buy it when you get to WDW and toss it later. A stroller rental will cost around $8/day so you it may be more economical to buy one.

Thanks for the great ideas! I am short, so an umbrella stroller is a good option for us and I like the tip to just hang it from the rental stroller when we aren't using it.

On my last trip, I remember seeing rental strollers that were specifically designed for infants who could not yet sit up. Granted I only remember seeing them at EPCOT, they wouldn't be useful for your older DD, and I never saw one in use; only saw them sitting beside the wheelchairs. But, if you were hoping to rent you might want to investigate this idea, too.

i would not use an umbrella stroller for the baby - you're going to be out for so long i'm of the feeling that she would feel more comfortable in a larger stroller that she could lay out in - we took our son at that age and as we were taking the older kids around the baby was comfortable and not cranky at all - it may be a hassle on the bus - but not that much as long as you're prepared - i'm more of a mind that a little hassle for the grown-up is better than an uncomfortable baby - and i also don't like the lack of head support on the really cheap umbrella strollers - but that's just my opinion

if you get an unbrella, make sure it reclines like these do. If you do purchase one, you will eventually use it as you DD gets older for quick mall runs, parks, etc.

When we take both the kids, we have used 2 lightweight strollers in the past. Our good Mac and a cheap umbrellla for my now 6 year old. The Mac is a lightweight umbrella that does recline. It is pricey but a really convenient stroller. Also, there are some stroller swaps on here that you might want to look at.
