Liberty Bell has just made it to my list. We have never done it. I don't even remember doing it all those visit as a child in DL.
LT always sounds good but gets cut before ADRS get made. Maybe this time. I really need to go more often of longer.

DH and I were talking about what we would do if we were taking an adults only trip the other day and he said *gasp* we would only need to spend one day at the MK! If only he knew how much he has been missing!! The LB seems like such a relaxing way to see some MK sights, although I think I wold be with Em down in the shade!!

I have not abandoned this report... I've just had a very busy week (like who doesn't anymore right?) We've had a few celebrations in our house, back-to-back nights with client dinners (I'd rather eat mac & cheese at home instead of dining with clients at snobby restaurants if truth be told!) and am trying to squeeze in a few extra miles of running this week which all totaled have limited my DIS time.

I'm planning to squeeze in a few updates before leaving in 11 days.

So onto some replies and then tomorrow I hope to update.

We took a ride on the Liberty Belle on our January trip since it was just about to sail and we had time to kill before our HM fp. I was surprised to see how many interesting things you can see from the boat. The story about Wilson's Cave is very interesting. I remember seeing it in the movie "How the West was Won."

I started up a conversation with a very enthusiastic CM at one of the stores. It was her last day and she had loved her DCP experience. Our son did this program and not everyone has as nice a job as she does. Some of the positions they give the interns are not very exciting. But it is a good experience, none the less.

Offsite guests can now book their fp+ experiences thirty days ahead of time. They just have to create an MDE account and link their tickets to it.

That's cool to see a reference to Wilson's Cave in a movie. I'll have to look that up since now I'm officially fascinated. I know I missed a lot of the scenery and sets since I didn't move too much from side to side on the boat.

I didn't know your son did DCP, what a great experience unless he had a job that was cleaning up after the horses on Main Street. I suppose they don't always offer the dream jobs.

This is cool. I don't think I ever noticed it before. I haven't been on the Liberty Belle for quite awhile but you can definitely get some great pictures from there. Love them all! Now I think I need to make a visit next month!

There's such great scenery. You would have a field day with your camera. Bring your zoom lens!

Not sure why I started taking those photos every trip other than I was bored before our dining reservation.

I love the Liberty Belle, even though we've only ridden it a couple of times. It seems like it's one of those attractions you never have enough time to squeeze in.

Yummy looking lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern. We prefer lunch to the gluttonfest dinner there.

The Liberty Belle is one of those attractions that doesn't get a lot of attention since I think it only departs a couple times an hour and unless you sync up the departure you really can't be in a rush to go anywhere else anytime soon. It really is a nice way to take a relaxing spin around Tom Sawyer Island.

You bet! I was curious so I'm glad to share my findings.

I've not tried dinner at LTT since I'm only good for a turkey dinner once or twice a year. Plus I can't order the ooey gooey toffee cake at dinner so it's a deal breaker!

Hunter and I took a spin on the Liberty Belle on our second trip. He wasn't feeling so well so it was nice to relax. I just wish there was sitting on that boat!

One thing on my bucket list is to visit Tom Sawyer Island. I haven't done that on either coast!

You could be my exhibit A for my comment above! I agree, if you want to just relax for a period of time it's a great way to do so.

I'm with you, I've not done Tom Sawyer Island at MK. We've done it at DL many times although not since they re-themed it as a pirate lair. I wonder if the guys have any interest to take a raft ride over there???

Kudos to you for being able to cross off a Must-Do from your list. There's usually those few attractions and/or sights that you mean to try every trip and yet you never do.
I'll admit, I have never been on the Liberty Belle before (my baby has, though!) but it looks like there's a lot of interesting sights to be seen. When I saw some of your pictures, they really reminded me of some of Walt's original plans for the parks and what he wanted showcased.

I definitely think that back in the day when Walt was designing the parks that the riverboat was an important part of his plans since he was a huge Mark Twain fan. It just makes sense that the majestic riverboat is a tribute to what Walt loved and envisioned for the park. Same with Tom Sawyer Island since that was another vision of Walt's with the original DL park that had a Western themed areas of Frontierland when it first opened.

Oh YES! That dessert is pretty awesome!

It's been too long since we have enjoyed that relaxing ride on the Riverboat! Such a nice respite from the hustle & bustle of the park.

Now I want to go back around Tom Sawyer Island and perch on the port side of the boat. It's a great vantage point to see Splash and BTMRR.

Oh man, LTT is my all-time favorite lunch place at MK mostly because of that dessert but the pot roast is an attractive reason to return.

I am an awful person and have lagged behind so badly but am finally caught up. My wedding is in 2 weeks so my head has been elsewhere lately. Thank goodness the DisneyMoon is all planned or else I'd be having a complete meltdown at this point.

I am SO EXCITED for Em. She is going to make the most stunning bride!

Yes, the Liberty Belle. We've not done that in five or six years. It seems every time we are there, it is clsoed for refurb. It's on my list of definite want to do's in September.

I love that you and Em have pictures taken with outstanding CM's. That's a nice little tradition you have there.

I hope the Liberty Belle makes it on your list this year. It may not be the most thrilling but at least it is relaxing.

And thank goodness there are plenty of nice CMs to be able to chat and pose with so we can continue that tradition.

We were gonna go to LTT for lunch but ended up having to cut it out. We'll probably go to Columbia Harbor House instead since it is counter service, but my, you are making me regret that cut!!!!!

Try it out! It is such a great nostalgic ride. And you can view areas of the park you wouldn't otherwise see.

CHH is a great alternative to LTT... you still have the Colonial feel with some great entrée choices. Although I've only had the hummus sandwich - it was awesome with those chips. CHH is on my list to return and try the apple turn-over. Unfortunately, we just can't dine everywhere we want otherwise I'd need to book at 24 day trip.

We've yet to ride the Liberty Belle too. Just looks so hot on there and we are running to the next "ride". Great pics and I need to try it out next time. Luckily this year I had a few hours to tour Epcot by myself and finally seen Ellen and Michael Jackson rides. Glad I didn't torture my kids with those rides yet.

I hear ya! That's exactly the reason I think there's no long lines for this attraction... you really have to make the time for it and not have a pressing timeline.

I'd join you for the Ellen's Energy ride but I pass for Captain EO. Ha ha! Your kids may be thanking you for leaving them behind.

YAY Bucket List Item!! I guess as a place to relax, the lower level of the Liberty Belle makes sense. But I'm all about where the action is, so upper level for me (on the one time I actually did this).
I think my fav thing was the new vantage points for BTM that you can't see otherwise.

Does Alligator Swamp remind you of the beginning of D-Land's Pirates? It does for me.

YES I LOVE GETTING PHOTO'S WITH CM'S!!!!! I love that you do too. Character photos are great, no doubt, but think I cherish the CM photos even more.

Absolutely! I was going to mention that but didn't. It is very much the same as the swamp shack in the bayou section of PotC at DL. Good memory Rob!

I agree 100%. The characters are great but the interactions with the CMs that tell you their experience and share their stories are worthy of a thank you and a photo!

Aww, I wish I could say every CP cast member I've encountered was bubbly and happy to be working at Disney as the girl you met! For me it's really been 50/50 as far as attitude, helpfulness, etc.

Yikes! That's a bad ratio of helpfulness-to-not so much. I remember the first time I heard a Disney CM get cranky and I was shocked. I thought they had to be super human and be pleasant all the time. Guess not.

Spectacular pictures from the Liberty Belle. I don't think I have done that in 5-6 years. Last time was when Ben was still avoiding Haunted Mansion and we went while Mark and Nate cavorted with spirits. I love that there are some things you can only see from the ship. The Indian Camp, which I think you can also see from the train, was part of the book Kingdom Keepers. Thanks so much for including the info about Wilson's Cave Inn- that was fascinating!!!

The picture of the run-down log cabin put a smile on my face. A couple of weeks ago, Nate had to make a diorama of the log cabin from the book Huck Finn for his Honors Language Arts/History class. It looked just like that, with painted popsicle sticks subbing for the logs.

There's probably a few other interesting stories behind the LB theming. It will be more interesting to see it next time since I've learned a little more back ground regarding the scenery.

I tried to find information about the windows on google- Someone commented that the glass was hand-made. A bing search yielded this info: "This restaurant, located in Liberty Square, is a table service establishment which brings to life a little "taste" of the colonial period of United States history. The setup is a colonial tavern way back in the day, so to speak. The theming here is terrific, with vintage decorations and even old wavy, seeded glass in the windows."

During our KTTK tour they talked about that glass... our tour is the next day of our trip so I have to say you are well ahead of my TR now.

Certainly! I had to know the back story since I know Disney doesn't do things randomly. I figure there's a few more stories to be discovered regarding some of the other scenes.

He was working in the kitchen at the counter service restaurant at Blizzard Beach, so it was a little more glamorous than the horse detail would be, but it wasn't great. I was surprised that they assigned these types of jobs to the interns. But, like I said earlier, he is now managing two restaurants, so he must have benefited in some way from the experience.

It's a great attraction that doesn't get a lot of competition for a spot on the boat. Definitely a nice way to spend about 20 minutes.

What? Noooooooo only one day? There is a DISer here that tried to do all the rides in one day and I think she did most of them but missed things like Hall of Presidents and the LB so if that tells you anything.... it's not easy to do. Talk some sense into him.

Monday August 26, 2013: Day 11, Part 4​

Following lunch we went over to the Tangled restrooms area. I know, I've already posted a LOT of photos of the Tangled restroom area but it's so beautifully themed that I can't help myself with sharing more! We spied the electrical outlets hidden into the ‘posts’. To think that 10 years ago people would have scratched their heads wondering why there was such a need in a theme park.

Moving on…. We decided to use our FP for PPF. My photos are poopy but here’s a few just to confirm that fact.

We were greeted with a monsoon after exiting the ride. That was fun compressing my body into a tiny alcove in the exit area so that I wasn’t blocking anything. Em retreated to the gift shop while I watched strollers roll across the plaza and people diving in for cover. Behind us, CMs were yelling at people to move away from the exit so that when Philharmagic concluded the exit would not be blocked. No one really paid attention to their pleading since they were more worried about staying dry than being compliant. It was getting crazy with cranky people and yelling CMs so Em and I decided to duck into Mickey’s Philharmagic and become a part of the crowd that would swell out of the exit and expect people to move out of our way! Actually, we hoped that the rain would let up by the time it had ended. It did so all was well.

Here's the good folks that we shared shelter from the rain with.... we all were afraid of melting in the rain I'm sure.

I missed getting Donald's tushy until it was too late.

Once back outside it was really humid and we were ready for a break in our day so we left taking the monorail back to CR around 3pm. We had to be back at MK for a 5:15pm dinner at Be Our Guest so this was just a short break.

From the window we could see the new bus stop construction.

Insert break in room here for continuity and all…. Ok, 2 hours have passed and we are on our way to dinner now.

After walking back over to MK we were strolling up Main Street and were fooled by a puddle of melting frozen lemonade that looked like someone had cracked an egg and wanted to cook it on the hot pavement. I didn’t say that sometimes our crazy imaginations made sense. Just that’s what it looked like to us. See for yourself.

We made our way over to BoG for dinner. To read my dining review which included a very blunt observation about our dinner experience, please see here. There were some great highlights so this is not a complete downer. Also, we were able to tour the library/gallery for the first time.

Hahaha on the frozen lemonade on the pavement... Totally looks like an egg frying! Before I read your commentary I thought that that's exactly what it was!

Sorry to hear about your less than stellar dining experience at BoG. I'm glad that the strawberry cupcake proved to be another great choice at least! The pictures of you and Em are great as well!

I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your food at BOG. With so many similar food reviews, we went there expecting not to like it, but we were pleasantly surprised and we loved our meals! I got the same dish as Em. Maybe we just hit them on a rare good day!

Oh my goodness it just amazes how quickly the monsoons hit. I genuinely feel bad for the CM's in that position where I'm sure they don't want to send everyone out into the storm, but almost have to. Not a good position to be in. Good call on heading into Philharmagic to escape the rain. And bonus... It's Philharmagic!!!!

Clearly all those folks standing there are from So-Cal.

Your review of BoG really hammers home one of the reasons I don't do sit down meals in Disney. The main one is time, but I would hate to spend a faily large amount of money on food and have the food just be so-so or not good. BUT, at least the place has some serious ambiance going on. Thankfully I can get that at lunch, lol.

Ahh, I hate those sudden rainstorms! We got caught in one in 2011, ran from LTT to Pirates and rode three times. Philharmagic probably would have been a better choice-- Pirates was chilly!
The best part about staying in a MK resort-- being able to take a break even with an ADR coming up. So convenient!

I can't tell you the number of times people come up to me in the parks asking if I knew of a place to charge their phones. Guess now I can direct them to the Tangled bathrooms.


Got to love FL's afternoon rain showers. Another reason afternoon breaks are beneficial. But, if I remember correctly, that was the first rain shower you got caught in. Maybe? Possibly? If so, that's pretty darn good, considering the time of year and length you both were there.
