a treat for you or did you eat there often? When I was younger going to a fast food place like McDonald's, Burger King and Burger Chef was a huge treat that didn't happen often. Maybe it had to do with the closest one being 40 minutes away.

So, did you eat there often or was it a treat?

It was a huge event for our family. My parents cooked and we ate whatever it was because we feared it would come back in another form! Or for breakfast ala Mommie Dearest. :rotfl:

Pop was also a very rare thing at my house growing up.

It was definetely a huge treat to go there. In fact, it was a big deal to be invited to a birthday at McDonalds.

I remember a Mc Donald's opening near my dentist in the early 80's. The hamburgers were 25 cents and my mom bought a bunch and freezed them. (that sounds so nasty now.. but we ate them even defrosted)

My parents old town still doesn't have a McD's. They have no fast food places, but they do have a Wawa.

BURGER CHEF!!!! I remember that place!! Even though I'm 26...I do, barely, remember Burger Chef.

Well fast food was a kind of "special" treat for me as a kid until my brother started working at McDonalds...then I was up there all the time with my friends trying to get free food!

All fast food was very much a treat - with 3 kids, and a limited budget, it was too expensive to eat it often.

Definately a treat. But for my nieces, it's a staple.

Definitely a treat.

Unfortunately it's a part of weekly menus for alot of families these days. My sister takes her two little ones there a few times a week. It makes me really sad because that stuff is BAD for your body, and my sister just doesn't get it.

Although there were seveal fast food joints nearby, it was a "treat" to eat there. I probably had fast food less than a dozen times a year growing up.

fast food, as in drive through, treat.
Fast food as in order of french fries, not a treat.

my grnadma works at a "just like homemade diner", so I can get whatever i want... She is the manager, so we are "important" :teeth: :teeth:

My husband and I were talking about this the other day...

Please remember "fast food" was pretty new when I was a kid.. :rotfl:

Buger King was VERY far away when I was small... we'd go and my parents would get "Whoppers" and milk shakes. My sister and I (we were VERY little) would get some of mom's milk shake in the little blue cups they had in the dining room for water...

Our McDonalds was one block from our elementary school... In 6th grade (since we were the oldest kids in the school) we were allowed to walk up there if we had a note from our parent(s)... My mom allowed me to go once a month... IF my grades were up and I'd been behaving. Back then McDonald's cut their own fries right in the store... and the only seating they had was on benches that were built into the side of the building... no tables... all outside... in CHICAGO... laugh... When it was VERY cold we would walk up there and bring our food back to the school..

It was definately a treat. I used to love Burger Chef! They had kids meals way before anyone else.

Fast food was a treat for us. I don't even remember there being a McD's near us until we moved to Toronto when I was 7.

Myst

It was definitely a treat. We had to go off LBI to go to one & I don't even know where we went? Somewhere where we would go shopping. I remember the burgers were like .19 or something like that. And it was always so exciting to get to go there and we'd drive and drive and then I remember HATING those little tiny onions!!!

I also remember Burger Chef. What sweet memories. (Except for those little onions...)

Oh, yeah, definitely a treat. In my birthday card each year, my grandmother would put money & a note saying "have mom & dad use this money to take you to Burger Chef"

There were no McDonald's in the area of NY I grew up in. We ate out whenever we went downtown to see a show, which might be a few times a year. Other than this, we ate at home or at relatives. But it wasn't until I was in HS that a McDonald's opened near us. My parents did not see it as a treat. They knew it as "junk food". I remember liking the french fries and buying them for myself when I got a babysitting job.

Today so many kids live on that stuff. It is not nutritious, and I am even guilty of stopping there or Wendy's on our many baseball nights. I do try and get my son to order a baked potato and chicken and I like a salad and fries. I know all that grease is terrible for us.

But yes, to answer the original qustion, I did see those fries I ate in HS as a treat.

Very often! I think I use to live off of happy meals :rotfl:

I am so glad I've grown up and gotten out of that habit and into the current healthy one!

McDonald's was a treat and didn't happen often. Same for take-out food and restaurant meals. I honestly can't remember even getting take-out pizza at home until I was a teen.

Defintely a treat here. We only ate at McDonald's when we visited my mom's family. I remember playing on the very old playground every year. I also wanted to climb to the top of hamburgerlar's hat(I think that was it). We didn't even live near a fast food place til I was in 4th grade. It was definetly a treat.

Only Burger King - and it was a treat. Back then they gave out crowns :) My parents hated McD's so we never went there.

I remember when pizza delivery hit town. I was about 12 and I couldn't believe you could call and order a pizza and they'd bring it to you! Too cool! We always over-tipped back then too because it was so new.
