When you can't go to Disney, go to Dolly! Right? ;)

We are heading to NC to visit with my BIL before he goes to Iraq and we are planning a little family jaunt to Dollywood. We were all going to hit DisneyWorld in December but obviously those plans have changed now for him.

We're going to rent a cabin home for the weekend and have some good ol' down home toe tappin' fun. :teeth:

I actually can't wait, it will be a nice little mini vacation until we go in December (we as a family are still going)....and well, I feel a kinship with Dolly since I have big ****us's too. ;)

Anyone in the area or going to be in the area around June 11? That is my 29th birthday to boot!

Any park opinions or cabin recommendations?

Just terribly disappointed your family jaunt isn't to "P-COT"! I mean, what's not to love about it???

Naw, pcot is your thing.. not mine! I prefer to avoid any park with p in the name. ;)

Tig - Thanks SO much!!! I will definitely check those places out. There are SO many places offering cabins...hard to know who is good!

Oooh, my family used to go to Dollywood alot when I was a kid...I remember the place where we stayed was in Gatlinburg and it was called the Homestead House.

Dollywood is so different now, though. I haven't been, but I saw a special about Dollywood on the Travel Channel...they have an enormous roller coaster there now that looks like fun, and a water park with a slide that looks alot like the slush gusher. You are going to have a great time! Please post a trip report when you return.

Yikes! Webmaster Barry is trying to convince me and my son to go, too!

Several things I truly remember about Dollywood:

LOTS of wet rides! We spent most of the day SOAKED!

Nice NICE NICE people! You think CMs in Disney are nice, these people make them look like the surly kids at Six Flags!

It is a lot cooler in the mountains, we went in July and it was nice and cool.

We didn't stay in a chalet, I had thought about it but didn't know the area enough to try it out. We stayed in a very nice suite hotel right outside of the entrance, as close to being "onsite" as possible!

Enjoy and MAYBE I might let that darned Barry talk us into it! :p

Will you be going to Dixie Stampede while you're there, too? (Used to work at the Branson one, and I've always wanted to see the TN version!)

I'm going on 5/23. I'm looking forward to riding Thunderhead. I'll probably glue my butt to the seat and ride it all day long. :)

You will love Dollywood. It's a very nice park go to. It has alot rides for families to ride together.

Be Sure to get one those huge snow cones to share.

If you like water parks, check out Splash Country. It's owned by Dolly too and located next door to Dollywood. They have some great water slides. We haven't been to Dollywood in a couple of years and I miss it. It's a great family park. Be sure to ride the Mountain Slidewinder and Daredevil Falls. I still love Blazing Fury and remember thinking it was the greatest ride ever when I was a kid. Be sure and tell us all about Thunderhead, the new wooden coaster when you get back.

Have fun! Every time we see the special on the Travel Channel (saw it on friday) DD5 wants to go! :)

Mosmom,
Check out Oak Haven Resort in Sevierville. We have stayed in a few different log cabin resorts in the Smokies and this is the best one we have found. Everything is beautiful.

If you get a chance to go to Gatlinburg, make sure you eat at Calhoun's. It's a great barbeque place. Make sure to order the strawberry shortcake. There is nothing like it.

We are going this weekend actually.
