Y.E.S. program individual enrollment

To clarify what I said at the end of my last post.....I ALWAYS think Disney offers great learning opportunities...I just meant an organized class on certain subjects and their relation to the Disney Parks. WDW has an energy one that uses rides etc to demonstrate various forms of energy ie:kinetic etc.

This is SO COOL. How did I not know about this before?

I also cannot find any dates at DL other than Jan 1-4, which of course is over now. Help ?

She did 2 classes. Designing a Disney Story and the leadership class. She loved both and my husband did too! We enrolled her in the physics classes last week but they were cancelled due to low enrollment:confused3. If your classes are cancelled You still get the discounted park tickets. Well worth the price and lots of fun.

I do know that the parent stays for the class...We are going this Feb 16-22, and just last week I signed my DS9 (soon to be 10) up for both the science class on Fri Feb 21& the Art of the Disney Story( not sure I have title correct) on SaturdayFeb 22. My DS is very excited for the Art of Disney Story. They also have another class about California offered on Saturday. We are from Massachusetts but currently hold APs. We only paid $45 per class and they do offer discount tickets ...maybe $55? I do know they need a minimum of 10 kids to run the class, and I'm not sure they have enough kids yet. They said I would be contacted 2 weeks prior confirming if we were set to go. I have been thinking of this ever since I found out about YES, but could never seem to coordinate at either WDW or DL. I mean how cool to combine Disney with learning ?!.

This is the actual date/class I was looking at!! My DS is 10 and DD will be turning 12 when we are there and they both love drawing; so it seemed pretty perfect. Just wasn't sure if one adult had to stay with them? Also couldn't find any reviews of it and was curious to see what others thought of it before I signed them up. BTW, our dates completely overlap! We are also there from the 16-22. We might even see you at the airport! (We are flying out of Logan :thumbsup2)

Great! Thank you for the review.

I wouldn't tell them ahead of time. We have had 3 classes cancelled and DD was not happy. Now I keep it to myself and if it goes through...... great, if not, she is none the wiser.:thumbsup2

Does anyone happen to know if they're more concerned about age or grade level? DS will be a 7yo 3rd grader next time we're there.

It may depend on the class , however they did not seem overly concerned when I spoke with them last week. I think as long as you are looking at something in the general age range it should be ok. I specifically asked about the Design a Disney Story class because it seemed to encompass a large age range ( I think 5-17). My DS is almost 10 , but I wondered IF only say teens were currently enrolled if he might slow down the older kids. They said absolutely not that they will all work on their own thing and not impact each due to age differences. As for the science class, I was careful to place him in the younger class, even though he was close to qualifying for the older group, because I knew the older group would be a bit too advanced. You should read the descriptions and place your child where you think they would fit best, and as long as you're close to that age/grade, they should be fine with it. They woman I spoke too was VERY nice and enthusiastic.

I'm sure we WILL run into each other at some point, hopefully in a class, but it won't be at Logan! Unfortunately by the time I was able to confirm that I actually had the week off, I was unable to afford Logan :rotfl:
I was determined to take this trip because our APs will expire at the beginning of spring break, so this was our last opportunity. Well I searched high & low, but the entire Northeast is on vacation that week :confused3 . I finally found a single bargain flight ($109) out of.....Philly  I prefer to fly Jetblue when possible but this flight was on US Airways and I happened to have air credits from a voluntary bump that paid my way out & my return from DC to Logan ( found a Jetblue bargain home to DC). We almost always fly non stop to LGB, so I'm ok with this crazy trip under the circumstances. We re taking Amtrak from Providence to Philly the day prior and will hit the highlights (Liberty Bell etc). NOW IF WE ONLY DONT GET ANOTHER BLIZZARD!!! The Cape has had two in the past 3 weeks :eek:
I really hope we get to see you at the class...it sounds like fun. We might find some more reviews of the YES program on the WDW pages, I think they offer many of the same classes.

2 questions about this...

1. If the class is cancelled will they still give you your discounted park tickets anyway?

2. Can you call and get a room added to this as a package; in hopes to get the room a little discounted too?

It looks like under 14 needs a parent to stay, so does the parent pay the same as the enrolled child?

The parent does NOT pay for the class, but I do believe you are required to have a paid admission. They offer discount park tickets if you do not already have tickets.

Found this link for dates:

http://www.usastudenttravel.com/disney-yes-programs-dl/registerindividual.php

Unfortunately they don't coincide with our February trip. :(

The above link is to USA Student Travel which actually books the Individual enrollment for YES. When you find the class you're looking for click on the date preference box, and a drop down screen will give you all the offered dates. You do need to pick your park prior to this screen . On your left you will find a vertical menu. Under "Youth Leadership Programs" pick "Disney YES Program". This will bring you to a screen where you can pick WDW or DL.

I can't find the ticket prices on the WDW YES information pages but not DL. Did anyone see where they are that I missed them?

Where I found price ranges was on Disney YES official site
http://www.disneyyouth.com/our-prog...-enrollment/#categories-individual-enrollment

However, I am not currently finding the breakdown of actual class cost vs class and ticket cost. I would recommend calling USA Student Travel directly , and they can give you a quote based on your specific needs. The ph# is listed on the first link aboves page. I had annual passes for both my DS & myself, therefore I only needed the cost of the class for DS. It was $45. I THINK that MAYBE the prices listed on Disneys YES page seem higher and MAY account for ticket costs of both student & parent? :confused3

This is something I've been hoping to do with my boys ever since I heard about it. Only my oldest is old enough yet and I don't want to do it on our first trip. But, I'm keeping it in mind for another trip in a few years. The discount tickets + learning? Can't pass that up! And DH is super excited to go to the classes with the boys.

For some reason, I thought I had seen the actual the first time I looked, but this last time all I found were the ranges previously mentioned. So, I'll hang out here to see if someone finds out the prices. And I'd love to hear reviews from those who have done it.
