WWE'S Chris Benoit and his family found dead!

Ok, I will not twist your comments. They stand on their own.

Can you read? His actions don't invalidate his career! I said it again! The man had an amazing wrestling career and I respect it fully.

You are just trying to pick a fight with me now and I'm ending it. I'm way to upset to try and deal with you doing this. Try picking on someone who's not freaking grief stricken.

The just had a press conference that's running on the news if anyone is interested.

Saying he murdered his wife Friday, she was bound and then strangled. Son was murdered on Sat morning or afternoon in his bed and he then hung himself some time later from the pulley on his weight bench.

Bibles were at the side of each of the victims bodies, bizarre.

Not trying to be mean or belittle you in anyway. I wanted to point out that Professional wrestling is entertainment, not a real sport like the NFL or MLB. It's staged with colorful characters and storylines for entertainment and entertains many. It's not a real competition and the outcomes are known in advance. It's very similar to an action movie like Lethal Weapon, etc. You love the action, but know in the back of your mind that Mel Gibson isn't a super cop with deadly Martial arts skills and can perform dangerous stunts. This wrestler who died was a entertainer, much like a movie star, and he did a terrible thing to his family.

NFL is a real sport with a real chance of players being seriously injured and killed. Players that have to leave the playing field are usually darn near crippled in their later years and suffer from Parkinson's and other terrible. problems from taking to many hits to their head and body. A running back in the NFL has a shelf life for about 3 years on average. There is a difference between real sports and acting. I know it doesn't ease your pain, but I wanted to put things in perspective for you.

As for the grief you feel, I'm sorry about how you feel. I hope you realize that he was just a person or charcter who entertained you and not a real life person like a husband, a child, or a father to you. It's easy to see and watch people on TV, the movies, etc, and get an emotional attachment to them. It's a fantasy and you should look to your family and people who really love you, for support. Feel sorry for the dead wife and child of this poor excuse of a man. Only a truly disturbed person could harm a defenseless child and woman. Don't grieve too much for a man that was just an image on the TV screen and was a fantasy made for entertainment. He wasn't Micheal Jordan or Barry Sanders and what he did on stage was a made up fantasy.

I hope you can come to terms with what you're feeling. A lot of Americans place way too much emotional attachment into celebrities and it isn't healthy.

Wow,That is truly so sad

Just heard the details a few moments ago. I had never heard of the guy until last night. I don't care if he's a wrestler, a carpenter, or a SAHD, this is a sickening story. The horror inside that house over this past weekend is unfathomable.
:sad2:

Yes he did do a terrible thing and he was a normal person but to say wrestling isn't a sport is silly. Yes it is entertainment, not real etc. but those men and women (well most of the women, lol) are athletes. They train, they compete and they have gotten seriously hurt doing what they love.

It isn't like a Soap Opera where they act and thats it, there is physical competition involved.

I honestly don't see why any of this matters though. What point does it have in that this person was obviously very sick......wrestler, football player, actor, golfer, etc. It doesn't matter he was a sick person regardless of who he was and what he did for a living.

There's a big difference between the sadness I feel right now and the sadness I felt when my father passed away. I think I'm more than entitled to grieve the fact that someone I respected and looked up to (yeah I trained to be a part of the OVW right after high school, but a disastrous marriage ended that) wasn't the man I gave him credit for. I grieve for my image being shattered and for those who knew him well, I feel so bad for them. I feel for the families not only of him but of his wife as well.

Wrestling has been a big part of my life for quite a few years, and not just as a fan. While I never knew Chris personally and was only a fan of his, it still can shake you to have someone like this happen.

And no, not everything one does in a wrestling ring is made up and phony. Wrestling IS a sport, though dramatized with storylines. Is it set up? Of course it is. But your body is really hitting that mat and you are really feeling those blows. There's a right way to do it, and that's the way they are trained, but there is still many different ways to get injured for the rest of your life doing this.

But you know, thanks for your concern and everything.

Excellent post.

It doesn't matter if he was a character, a superbowl winning quaterback or any other "celebrity", plainly put he killed his family and therefore none of that matters. At this point who cares if he was a true athlete or not, all that aside the facts are plain and simple he is a murder.

My only grief is that I wish he would have been alive to suffer for his actions, he got out easily IMO.

I agree with the poster who said too many people are overly attached to celebrities and public figures. I can tell you after being around the wrestling business for many years personally many of the "heros" and "good guys" are very, very different when the camera is not on.

I'm sorry your hero's image has changed, but I do not agree that he should still be respected for his career. I doubt this was a one time occurance in the household, seems to me that there must have been more fighthing, etc in that household than we will ever know about. I doubt he went from a respectable, wonderful, loving husband to a murder in a split second.

Not saying your opinion isn't valid, just stating mine.

Just a FYI for everybody. I didn't mean to imply or make it seem that just because he wasn't a true athlete like a Micheal Jordan or a Lawrence Taylor, that it took away the fact of what he did. I was just replying to the poster about their comments of what a fantastic career he had. I was just trying to put things in the proper perspective and show the complete picture. There's a difference between what the incredible, fantastic feats MJ did on the basketball court and what a Pro Wrestler does in a heavily scripted and rehearsed setting made solely for entertainment purposes. It's similar to a Broadway play but with rehearsed violence instead of dialogue. Maybe pointing that out gave the wrong impression.

Regardless of what you do for a living, murder is murder and nothing ever excuses that. I would never imply that just because you're a real pro athlete, that it gives a excuse for terrible behavior. It doesn't and I would never think or say that. I always dread when a celebrity dies because a lot of people in this country place too much importance on the fantasy of who they appeared to be and act like it was a member of their own family that died. We don't know these people in real life, it's fantasy and should always keep that perspective in mind. It's not healthy to get so wrapped up in celebrities life's, IMO.

So I guess Owen Hart knew that he was going to die "in advance"??? Just like in football, anything can happen and people can get hurt or killed. The story lines are scripted and the moves are practiced beforehand, but one wrong move and you could become paralyzed. Wrestling is a contact sport just like any other. The men and women of the wrestling world are athletes just like Michael Jordan and Barry Sanders and no they don't have stunt doubles like Mel Gibson! Regardless of any of this, 3 very much loved people are dead as a result of a senseless act. They will be sorely missed and I pray that God has mercy on this man's soul!

Well based on your ID you believe in Heaven and if so I don't think Benoit is going to be there, so if not there then I think he has gone elsewhere and IMO, he ain't ever getting off easily.

I liked him as a wrestler, but I am saddened by his choices. Those fires won't feel so good licking at those wrestling tights.

His actions invalidate and overshadow his career to me. Just like OJ.

I agree with this 100%. I think someone mentioned they used to poke fun at those who took Dale Earnhardt's death hard. Well that was me and DH. The difference is he died doing what he loved and he died helping his son and his own driver win a race. Still it was a tragic end.

Who I really feel sorry for are the children who get caught up in this and see a "death" story line, then the supposed dead man appear and say they are going to talk about a real death, then finally finding out that it was murder. I'm sure there are a lot of very confused kids who are fans out there. My heart goes out to them, as well as the wife and son who were murdered and the family left behind.

I totally agree.

I agree. Anyone that can commit such a heinous crime, especially to a woman and child he "supposedly" loves/d, forfeits any tiny amount of respect I could gather for him no matter how good he was at what he did for a living.

Can you read? His actions don't invalidate his career!QUOTE]

His actions invalidate and overshadow his career to me. Just like OJ.

I have to agree with gemmie on this one. I find it impossible to respect anything about anyone who commits such a heinous act. Regardless of whether they are a pro wrestler (Chris Benoit), pro football player (OJ Simpson, Rae Carruth), or a pro dirtbag (Jeffrey Dahmer).

If you think they are not real athletes then you have no clue what professional wrestling actually is.

Very Weird indeed...I watched the press conference and a few things struck me as odd....Why would a man that strong have to tie up his wife (without a struggle I might add) accroding to the cops.

Why the bibles??? Benoit never struck me as a religious man (In everything I have ever heard about him nothing ever pointed to him being religious like say shawn michaels is)

They did mention he had a bunch of perscription meds in the house(NOTHING ILLEGEAL!) yes he did have steriods in the house before anyone starts into it...they were perscriptions based and for his neck wich he had broken in this (not real) sport.

Nancy died Later friday evening, Daniel(the 7year old) died early saturday and Chris late saturday.

Nancy was also found wrapped in a towel bound in her chair(although coompletely clothed underneath) in an office as one cop put it and an living room as the other put it(contradiction much..which is it?)

Daniel was found in his bedroom on his bed.

Chris was found int he basement weight room.

Benoit was only arrested once to their knowledge(for DUI) back in like 99
He was under a restraining order in 2003 when nancy filed for divorce but just 3months later she dropped it and went back with him. (and no he never touched her according to the papers filed...just threatened) No other occurences ever have been filed.

 :stir:

I never said that what he's suspected of doing was okay or :thumbsup2 . You are the one reading into that.

But it still doesn't make his career any less legendary. I can respect someone's career and the things they accomplished in the sport, music, acting... whatever... without respecting the person themselves. Which is basically what it's come down to for me. And you know what? That hurts, because I was a huge Benoit fan.

Please, as respectfully as I can ask you, don't twist my statements again.

I agree with you... see my post on page 6

Said it perfectly! The moves are not always practiced BTW. (I have experience in the biz)
