This thread is on the theme parks board right now.

It seems Disney is changing their whole ticket structuring in Jan. You now have to pay extra to park hop, or keep your unused days from expiring. I think it will be cool that people can get exactly what they want, but I also think tickets will get more expensive.

Hmmm...I wonder how this will affect our discount on the LOS passes. I'm not sure they are going to exist anymore. If anyone knows anything on that, please post!!

I'm off tomorrow morning!!! I can't BELIEVE it!!!

Not to be disagreeable, but the AP discount actually looks WORSE. The breakeven point for an AP is now closer to 10 days (new ticket with park hopping, but not with the nonexpiration option) at least for a single trip (since the AP for a single trip would in effect "expire" if you weren't going back in a year. Understand that I'm not throwing out a complaint--just pointing out that the AP discount seems to have been well calculated in the entire scheme of all the changes. For many/most, the AP will still be a great deal, but there will be many other people who would have bought the AP who can do better with the new ticket structure.

I agree with you Doctor P.

When the news of the DVC discount came out, it seemed almost too good! I wondered if something else was up with tickets but could never have guessed the new structure.

I think it is a win, win situation for most DVCers as well as Disney.

And I love that AP discount! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I think it really boils down to how the individual DVC family vacations. If you have one long trip per year, the new Magic tickiets will probably be best for you. If you take multiple trips per year, I'd stick with the AP. We generally go 2x a year for 8 to 10 days each, so the APs have always been, and will continue to be, the best option for us.

It's not really paying extra when you add up the ticket costs. It's more like getting a discount if you give up park hopping. Also, the more days you buy the less expensive each day on the pass becomes.

HELP!!!!

I am beyond confused, I tried to post on the ticket board, but for some reason couldn't sign in???

Anyway, going to WDW and will be doing the parks for 3 days, then "POSSIBLY" doing WDW again in the fall for anywhere from 3-7 days.

I am sitting here with 3 leftover "pluses".

Should I just suck it up and by a AP? I am not understanding the numbers, or have been able to figure out the prices of all the different passes, but it seems like with the new system, shorter stays become more expensive?

Plus with the DVC discount, does the AP just seem like the right thing to get, even if we don't go in the fall?

As long as DVC members get $100 off of an AP and $125 on a PAP, it is a GREAT DISCOUNT. It's neither better nor worse today than it was yesterday, last week or last month. It is exactly the same.

The fact that WDW has released other ticketing options that may be more attractive to some guests is wonderful, but it has zero bearing on the quality of the wonderful discount DVC has negotiated for members.

I'm not blind to the fact that Disney / DVC have their own greedy reasons for any moves that they make. But, as I've said before, as an AP holder, the only certainty is that have about $300 MORE in my pocket after my next AP purchase.

Sheesh...enough ticket envy already.

Yep, works for us too - we were UPHers, and the 10% discount - while not wonderful - was fine. We never cared about the expiring thing - and still don't. It wasn't working out to be worthwhile to get the AP - we usually use a few "pluses" - and were dropping a day on the UPH. This ends up saving us about $60 a ticket.

I wouldn't turn down DVC giving me even more of my money back in the form of a discount off these - but am quite content.

I don't see anyone envying anyone on this thread...just discussing????
