Somehow I have not previously encountered this place - I am a light internet user compared to some, so I may only spend an hour or two each day, maybe 5 days a week, checking out what's happening on the internet, message boards, and e-mail. I have been active in a photography message board for many years, and from that one member started a Disney-based photography board which I joined in on too a few years ago (themagicinpixels.com). I recall seeing this board's name once a few months back, as a few of the folks at TMIP are also on here...but I never checked it out. Today I again heard reference to this board, so I decided today was the day to check it out. I was expecting a small board with a hundred or so members and a few hundred threads - so of course I feel like Rip Van Winkle in not knowing this huge Disney fan board existed all this time!

Anyway, I've registered, and will add this to my favorites list...hopefully I can pop in semi-regularly and contribute to some of the threads. I'm not terribly adept at juggling lots of message boards...I just don't spend enough time on the net to dig extensively through them all. But the comprehensiveness of this board and the many subjects close to my heart should make it a place I'll want to visit often.

A bit of background on me...which I'll try to cover as much as possible right of the bat:

I first visited any Disney park when I was 3 years old - I was born in England and we moved to New Jersey with my grandmother - she took annual trips to Florida for vacation, so the news that a grand new theme park was opening in 1971 meant 'Road Trip'! Grandma took the family to the park a month after opening and I was addicted. I've been to a Disney park every year of my existence since 1971...road trips annually to Disney from New Jersey, then my mother moved to California in 1972 where Disneyland became the regular stop, then we all moved to Florida in 1976 - Disney World was on the menu multiple times a year as we burned through E tickets. In 1986 I went to college in New Orleans, still close enough for annual summer trips to WDW. In 1990, I moved to California, and got reacquainted with Disneyland for the next 4 years. Then in 1994, I moved back to Florida where I've been since.

I joined the DVC in 1996 when the Boardwalk Resort first opened for sales. My mother & stepfather and I teamed up and bought 440 points (they live in Florida as well, so we are all close enough to drive)...we take two family trips per year, and I use the rest for personal trips alone or with friends. It gives me approx. 30-40 days a year at Disney, depending on how I work the points and where I stay.

I have had 4 relatives working at the parks over the years - one still works there. My great-aunt Mary works at the Prime Time Cafe in HS, as a hostess - she's in her mid-eighties and working there keeps her young! An uncle previously was a controller at Living Seas, one cousin worked through college at Pizzafari, and one cousin spent several years in Disney Security.

I'm in the financial/insurance industry, with the same brokerage for 15 years. I live in Boca Raton, which is approximately a 2 1/2 hour drive up the Turnpike to WDW.

I am at Disney usually every few months, typically staying 3-5 days at a time. I just got back (July 26-30) from a hot summer trip staying at Saratoga Springs...and in September (6-10) I'll be at Saratoga again. In December, I've got an OKW studio for 5 nights during Mousefest, waitlisted for a Boarwalk studio if it becomes available. And in January we've got our next family trip in a 2-bedroom Boardwalk the week after MLK day.

So...that's the book about me and my background! I welcome any questions, and look forward to spending some time here at Disboards!

Thanks all. Mandy...I'll pop over to that thread and add myself in with a 'hi'. I'll be up there by myself for the Sep trip, since I'm technically up there for the business conference on Tues & Wed...I just added the Sat, Sun, & Mon because there is no way I'm going to be that close to WDW without going there!

Thank you fairymagick08. I may be close to the parks compared to out-of-staters, but you're even closer there in Tampa. I'm jealous of your shorter drive!

BTW - my company is headquartered in Tampa - I'm sure you've seen the name all over the place. :)

:welcome: to the DIS!! Glad you found us.

Yes, you are a light internet user now but these boards will transform you! Get used to sitting at your computer, you'll be hooked to the DIS soon!

BTW-we're neighbors! I live in Boca too.

Glad to have you here on the DIS!!!

Thanks again all. Yeah, I found a few of the boards, including the photography board. I've got so much more to surf around and see here! I've posted on a few photo threads, but should get a chance this weekend to spend a little more time reading deeper in each forum to see what kinds of subjects are in there.
