If available, would you use online booking more often or book by phone?

List in posts below the features you would require in order to use OnLine booking.

(Or has this poll already been taken?)

I'd like to see my point balance, available resorts/room sizes, points required, choice of smoking/non smoking.

Basically, similar to a standard on-line hotel booking... except for the point balance thing:sunny:

If it was real time and not "we'll send you an e-mail confirmation in a few days" then I would use it all of the time.

This poll will be slanted somewhat because the group responding is obviously comfortable with computers and doesn't mind using one. There are many of the 80K members who I'm sure are fairly phobic toward a computer mouse (not the mouse):earseek:

I agree with with both points that HBC made here.
I would use the on-line booking if it was 'real time', so I voted for on-line booking.

I voted real-time as well. Then CaskBill (and I'd be glad to assist) could integrate it into his DVC Planner: just plot your days, plan your vacations, then hit the "Book It" button!

I voted online booking (if it were real time). I book my flights and hotels online. I do all my bill paying online. Heck, it's gotten to the point where a little book of 25 checks will last me well over a year.

I would also hope we could track our points and bank, borrow, etc.

Another vote for real-time. I just sent along a request yesterday morning/early afternoon and just got an email back saying it could be two days before I heard anything. If I can book online for a stay at POR thru Disney on-line, you would think I could book my DVC stays that way also. I would also love to be able to access my point history/balance.

In agreement with everyone else--on-line, real time.
Should add that we usually book so far in advance that the two-day delay dosen't really matter a whole lot.

Definitely real time, online reservations with points history (maybe base that on the "checking account" idea rather than the nightmarish points statement they currently send out). I'm with LeftCoaster...we use very few stamps and make very few phone calls in this household. I can't remember the last time I made hotel or plane reservations over the phone (other than DVC, of course).

I also think DVC should allow us here at Disboards to beta test it! Folks here have the knowledge it takes to make sure it works properly on the user end...due to the fact that they've used other online "timeshare" reservation systems...and that they know DVC inside and out.

Yep, I agree! Only if it is "real time", and I can see totals too.

I'd like to see this option, and agree that it would need to be real time.

In addition to point transaction histories, I'd like to be able to bank or borrow on line as well.

That would free up MS for the more challenging issues such as point transfers, etc.

I voted 'yes, for on-line' and for realtime. I would like to have point history, bank and borrow options, and the smoking/non-smoking idea is good. Too bad we couldn't have available rooms to choose from but I know that's impossible.

Yes, but only if it were real time and the system were robust enough to handle the crush of requests for the popular times.

I'm thinking what it is like trying to book standard view rooms at BWV during early December. Worried about system crashing under the load and point accounts getting messed up because of it. I hate hassles like that! I already know the phone system can handle the load.

I don't want to pay higher dues for system development either - the current phone system works well for me.

Best wishes -

I would love to be able to book DVC online but I think it's much more complicated than booking a room at POR thru Disney on-line. You have people with multiple contracts, multiple home resorts, multiple use years, banking, borrowing. I think it would end up a mess for people who really don't know what they are doing.

While I'd love online - realtime, I don't think it will happen anytime soon.

With popular times and popular units, anyone with DSL will have a significant advantage over someone with dialup.

When you call, we all call the 1-800 number so the playing field is even.

Only if its real time and only if the ROI on the project is less than three years - and the only way you are getting ROI on this is by laying off some of those lovely Member Services folks, so I don't have huge warm fuzzies about it.

Even if you couldn't book online in real time, it would be nice to know if certain types of rooms were available on certain dates. Then when you call, you can say the specific dates you want w/o having the CM to check all the possibilities.

I intended for "On-Line booking" to mean real time. Push the button and the reservation is confirmed. That's why I put fax/email with "Phone."

Definitely bank/borrow on-line, too.

I like the idea of DISers doing the beta testing. .What surprises me is the number of DISers who would book primarily by phone.

I agree the potential problems are HUGE, but that's what Disney "Magic" is for, isn't it?:wizard:

I voted online, but now that I think about it.... I would like to check point totals online, but I would lean towards booking with a real person.....

UNLESS it was an amazing system and could handle my 5 contracts, 2 UY's and 3 home resorts smoothly.

I voted phone.....simply because I have no confidence that they could create a system to handle the complexities and nuances of the DVC system......I can just imagine the horror stories of people who booked day-by-day and ended up moving to a different room every night:eek:
