Okay we have completely CHANGED our trip date and are looking at Veranda staterooms. I am trying to book two next to each other. There are some on Deck 5 ...not a lot of rooms on that deck because all the KID stuff is there. The teen club, tweens and the nursery. Do you think it will be noisy??? With a lot of kids running up and down halls??? Please advise?? Our kids are going to be 21, 18 and 13 on this trip.

We had 5650 on the Dream, which has an enormous verandah. Some have complained that aft rooms on the dream are noisy since they're over the nightclubs, but this particular room was not.

The kids clubs are midship, so except for the bit of hallway that goes from the aft elevators to the kids club area (ie, 5150-5162), there should'nt be a lot of noise from "kids running up & down the halls."

As long as you have the opportunity to pick a specific room on deck 5, then I'd be okay staying there. There are some challenges in getting forward and aft on Deck 5, but I've heard it's doable on one side of the ship.

Most of the 5E rooms have extended verandahs, and a few even have double or triple size extended verandahs. There are some rooms (around the 5046/5546 rooms) that are located over restrooms or the theatre entrance or perhaps shops that should be relatively quiet (at least compared to the ones directly above the nightclubs,) but there are even some in the aft section that are over restrooms or potentially quieter clubs (skyline, perhaps?) that may be better choices than others. You just have to look at the rooms and what's below them.

There are two 5E rooms I would avoid, 5024 and 5524 I think (the first 5E room from the front on each side of the ship) since they don't have the extended verandahs, are pretty heavily obstructed, and lack privacy since the person with the extended verandah next to you can easily look into your room.

If you pick two connecting verandah rooms, the divider between the two verandahs can be opened, creating a nice little meeting area in the extended section (though you will be in the view of others.)

There are pictures in a few threads of the extended 5E verandahs and rooms.

These 5 E's are available: 5036, 5038, 5040, 5042, 5044 5538, 5542, 5550

Do you need connecting rooms? If so, of those listed, you might consider 5042 and 5044. They're sort of over that neverland area at the start of the WDT balcony and hopefully won't be noisy. My TA had reported being on Deck 5 forward during a show and didn't find it noisy at all, but it depends on whether you are early bed goers. (given the ages of the kids, doesn't seem like they'd be early sleepers!)

If you don't need connecting rooms, I'd consider 5550, since I like to see the developed part of Castaway Cay when docked there, and either 5542 or 5044 (or a cheaper option if you don't want to pay for the older kids to have a verandah)

I don't see that 5042 or 5044 are connecting???? Also, did you think these were obstructed views?? I cant seem to find an inside room across from a Verandah room on any deck.

Good location. We have stayed on deck 5 on the Magic before with the kids clubs and no problems from noise there at all. We have a forward deck 5 room booked on the Fantasy. :)

I'm pretty sure they connect since I think the 5X46 rooms are the only non connecting 5E rooms in that area.

There are very few inside rooms by verandah rooms but there are some insides and a couple of oceanview rooms at the front of deck 5 so down the hall from where you are looking.

I know there are a lot of opinions on stateroom locations, etc. But honestly, having sailed on the Dream twice, I would stay on any deck just to be on the ship.

There is so much to do and we were so tired when we went to bed that we could have slept through a marching band going down the hall. ;)

I have to agree 100%...the best sleep I ever get is onboard!!

We did the Dream 3 times in January into Feb and each time we were on a different deck and different cabins....we enjoyed all the areas we were in but really loved the Deck 2 forward area...that seemed the easiest to get around from with minimal waits for elevators.

we have cruised with our adult kids before and it really does not matter if they are down the hall....OP stated her kids ages and they would be fine down the hall a bit.

For our Fantasy cruise next year our family, friends and extended family are all over the ship....didn't feel the need to be all together. Some wanted verandahs, some oceanviews and some insides.

We had a choice to get practically any room on Deck 5 on our December 2012 Fantasy cruise and chose not to do it.

I haven't heard any actual trip reports, but I didn't want to be too close to the teen club. The only time in our 5 trips we had any issues was with kids congregating on stairs and outside the clubs. I don't think that would be a problem with how it's designed on the Dream/Fantasy, but I didn't want to take any chances with the forward rooms. Plus, I didn't want to be above any of the theaters. I tend to crash early sometimes and on the Wonder/Magic, the Buena Vista theater would sometimes show late movies.

With respect to the Deck 5 aft cabins (none of which seem to be on your list), I was nervous about being over the vibe or even too close to it based on some early trip reports regarding noise.

The final straw for us was looking at the balconies. Yes, they are bigger than other verandahs - sometimes two or three times larger. However, Deck 5 is the last deck that extends out to the bow. Decks 6 and up are tucked in somewhat. In other words, anyone above you in Decks 6 - 12 can look down on your verandah. I wouldn't like that lack of privacy. Many others don't care. We prefer the fully enclosed verandahs for a little more privacy from those above us.

Now, if Deck 5 was the only deck left, I would choose it as I would love to be on the ship! However, if given a choice, we would opt for another Deck. I'll let all of those who crave the triple sized verandah with Room 5650 keep it.

I think you might be overthinking this decision. Almost any room you choose will be great! I would decide if a verandah is important or not. If it's important, stick with the 5e's as they are some of the least expensive (the 6b's are less - not sure about the 6a's). If just having natural sunlight is important, stick with Deck 2 inside rooms. On your first cruise, you may not be in the room all that much anyway.

Thanks everyone. I know I am TOTALLY OVER THINKING THIS. :rolleyes1 On the June 16th cruise the DECK 2 9 B's are not available that we would have on the July 14th trip. There are inside rooms but I really want to have AT LEAST one cabin with a porthole. When you click on the next tab over on the website, it takes you to the 8B's. Those are all on DECK 9 very close to the back of the ship. I think I also looked up the 6B's which are on decks 5 and 6 also in the back area of the ship.

You can walk from one end of the Dream to the other on the port side - past all the kids clubs. This seemed to create more traffic past the cabins in the aft portion on the port side. To/from elevators and folks doing the detective game and checking out the interactive portraits. My cabin was on the starboard side and very quiet.

Get ready to wave to your neighbor if you have 5656 and 5658, as well. The extended verandahs sort of curve around and there's a gap between them - no extended divider. This didn't really bother me and I didn't realize it until I got home and looked at my photos. I'd still book the very same location again!

I'd go with the 8b's on Deck 9 or the 6b's on deck 6. I would stay away from the 6b's on deck 5 due to them being directly over the nightclub.

On our first cruise, we did inside rooms just be on the ship! We did connecting staterooms (Cat 10) and thoroughly enjoyed them! I have to admit that I did miss the natural light, but you could turn the TV on to the bridge channel and see what it was like outside. On the Dream/Fantasy, you have the new virtual porthole. The one advantage to the inside rooms is that it's quite easy to sleep!

My only concern with inside rooms would be the size of the Cat 11's as they don't have split bathrooms and are a little smaller. However, with 5 of you in two rooms, they should be fine. Much better than sharing a Cat 8 or 4 IMO!

Part of the fun of cruising is all of the planning. However, I don't think we've ever agonized over rooms as much as you have!:goodvibes For our 2008 Panama Canal cruise, we got lucky with connecting cat 8's as that cruise sold out the first day! The only room we wish we could have redone was our Cat 4 on the Wonder. It was okay, but we sure missed our connecting rooms. Plus, it was the noisiest room we were ever in as we were right below the Goofy pool. But even that room was still great and we were glad to have done the cruise!

To answer the question that the thread title poses... I'd stay in the broom closet next to the engine room if it was on one of the Disney Cruise Line ships. So that would be a YES.

I understand the humor and point you're trying to make, but when one pays $100 to $250 per person per day for a Disney cruise, it's okay to expect something a little nicer than a broom closet by the engine room. For many, they will only cruise once and a noisy room can be frustrating. On one of our cruises, the engines were louder than normal one night only and we didn't get a good night's sleep. Fortunately, it was just that single night but when you're paying a lot for a nice "holiday", it's okay to want the best available room. You don't want a room that's too small, too noisy or too smelly.

Now, if the trip were free, I'd stay in said room! I'd camp out on a deck chair for a free trip!

From the horrific stories I've read on these boards and others abut staying above Evolutions, I ended up spending an extra $500 to move to deck 7. Kids of your age may stay up late enough not to care about the vibrating base sounds, but my young ones sure would be bothered by it.

Check the state room reviews on here before you book.

So you are saying stay away from deck 5 and 6?

Our first cruise is going to be on the Podcast 3.0 and we are on deck 10. I was willing to go to a higher deck but the rooms on deck 11 & 12 had to be paid for in gold bricks.

After my US Army career, I learned that I have the ability to sleep ANYWHERE. Noise, light, room temp and such just aren't a problem. How much noise could there possibly be from the kid's club during the nighttime? Surely, they close those areas down sooner or later... That or they have a large supply of those Monster drinks on board.
