Would you report your neighbor for an abused and neglected dog?

I've been in a very similar siutation. I can tell you my neighboors still have their dog. For whatever reasons they system failed this poor animal. They know it was us-- as the animal control officers told them-- even though they said we could remain anonymous. They confronted us about it-- and have been total pains ever since.

I'd still call again, but I'm frustrated to still see the poor dog next door suffering, and I can hear him whimpering and howling in the garage and the man yelling every now and then.

I was told they couldn't do anything because I hadn't specifically seen anything. As for the living conditions-- supposedly it's acceptable to leave your dog on a 4 ft chain 24/7 no matter what the weather. Supposedly they are keeping an eye on the situtaion.

Anyhow, I am tempted to just take the dog to the SPCA one day in the next county as it has no ID or liscence. I know thats stealing, but it would have a better life.....

Hope everything works out for you.

I had to do it once. Don't hesitate! My neighbors used to keep their dog outside all the time, even it winter. It was pitiful to see that dog sitting there all the time. One winter's morning it was close to 20 below zero with the wind chill and sure enough, the dog was sitting under the tree, shaking horribly. I never had to leave my name. I'm glad I did it because the dog was eventually placed in a loving home.

I would kidnap the dog and give it to someone who would love it and take care of it. Seriously...I've seen too many cases where nothing was done. :(

A good plan, as long as you know you won't be caught or unless you don't mind going to jail. Plus, that's not a good lesson to be teaching kids.

I had my neighbor call the cops on me for cutting the bushes hanging in the alley between our houses, that were scratching cars. I cut 2", never stepped in her yard and thank God the prosecutor laughed the case away, but needless to say the cops came, took my info and scared the tar out of me.

However, I couldn't bear for the dog to die knowing something could have been done to prevent it.

I would also call someone and just not tell them my name. Humane Societies take this information very seriously.

I'd be knocking on the door WITH the humane officer. I would offer to take the dog off their hands. People like that don't deserve to be handled with kid gloves.

While I understand your fears of retaliation, I would definitely call an Animal Control group or the SPCA of your area - they have no right to treat an animal that way !!

Someone should do the same to those people. Ugh.

I anonymously reported my SIL (from my previous marriage) for abusing her DD, so yes I would call on the dog.:( Good luck Blondie.

REALLY??? You can go to jail for stealing someone else's dog???

Just kidding. I know what the consequences would be, but I still would probably assume the risks to save the dog.

Of course...I would wait until they weren't home...

and I would probably try calling the SPCA first...but if nothing were done about it, I would consider taking the dog....

Id wait till they were gone, Grab the dog, take it to the vet, get it taken care of and give it to a loving home. Id probably give it to my parents or family member so I can still see it. The animal cops dont come through all the time and I just love animals too much to watch that abuse happen right before my eyes.

Im at the point of tears just thinking about this dog. Where do you live? If you live near me, I will go get it myself.

SAVE THIS POOR DOG. Put it by a fireplace and warm the poor thing up. Give it love!!

PLEASE UPDATE US.

We had a small pup in our neighborhood that was kicked, abused, and yelled at by her jerk of an owner. Couldn't understand why he kept her as he obviously didn't seem to care. He kept her on a chain outside when he wasn't home, and she was always breaking out and roaming the street. He would be so upset at her when he got home. I worried as we lived next to a highway. My neighbor had a family that wanted her, so we took her the next time she got loose and came to my house to play with my dog. Yup, we stole her and gave her to a wonderful family that loves her to death after 9 years. I have no regrets, especially when her owner came around looking for her. He was real p'od, not because he loved her...no, because he just lost $100 that some other jerk was going to pay him for her.

God bless you Cassie. Normally I'm the most law abiding person I know but when it comes to those who can't defend themselves, you have to help! Screw the neighbors.

::yes:: ::yes:: My parents live beside a jerk that leaves his dog on a chain 24/7. Poor Rex(the dog) is pitiful looking....my mom goes over and feeds him and rubs him b/c the jerk obviously doesn't care about him and the local police & SPCA won't do a ____ thing about it

Please do what you can to save the poor dog. If it were a child you wouldn't hesitate. The dog needs your help.

I'm so glad to see how most of you believe that animals shouldn't be treated like this. Definitely improves my outlook on human beings. I totally understand why you're scared of the neighbor doing something to your dog. You could tell the Humane Society that you're someone else. Or give them a fake name.
