Would I get any benefit out of Disney Visa card?

I have a Disney Visa, but only use it for Disney purchases and at businesses that don't accept American Express. I get much better rewards with Amex.

This is why I'm pretty cautious about signing up for a credit card. We only have two currently, and I want to keep it that way. But I certainly want to get the most out of the cards I do have.

If you already have good credit, getting new cards occasionally will not affect your report. There are some people (think a pp said she does this) that apply very often and sort of make a 'career' of it - JMO, but could affect a person detrimentally down the road!

I got it for the sign-on bonus, but have never used it since. I have other cards with better cash back options. I am of the belief that I want to maximize my cash back and then put that toward my Disney vacation rather than taking less because it is automatically earmarked for Disney.

I use it for almost all purchases. Pay it off every month. For my Sept trip rewards $ will pay for one 8 day park hopper pass with a few dollars left over. There may be other cards that accrue greater rewards, however I know I will use these rewards and I will use them in a time frame in which they will not expire. The rewards work for me.

Another benefit in having the card are the discounts around WDW and the photo opportunities in EPCOT / DHS. Between being a DVC member and the Disney Visa card I find that at most WDW shops/restaurants I can get at least a 10% discount. There is also a member lounge at EPCOT, that I have never experienced.

I only have it for the occasional discount and character greeting. I don't use it as my daily card.

I've got one that I use often and pay off each month. Will have about $600 in Disney credit for our November trip. That will certainly cover souvenirs and snacks if nothing else.

same here. i like to buy a dooney & bourke bag each trip so the 10% off helps, plus any other purchases I make, and then the character greetings.

Question - sorry to piggy-back.

We just got the Disney Visa...so this will be our first trip with it. For the 10% off at stores and some restaurants, is it automatic when I hand them the card, or do I need to notify them in advance so they can run it differently?

And, is there a list of the places that the discounts apply?

Thank you!

You do need to mention it. Here's the WDW perk breakdown page: https://disneyrewards.com/walt-disney-world-perks/

Supposedly you're able to stack the discount on top of using your redemption card... I've always been told no at the restaurants, and I didn't feel like escalating the question.

If you have any intention of taking a Disney cruise, you have 6 months to pay off your deposit and final payment without any interest. At one time, the card offered other benefits for Disney cruises but they have discontinued most of them.

I think they may have a debit version if you google about it if you just want it for the extras around property. Never tried but debit will not appear on the disney visa site.
I think they did away with the debit version. I used to have all 3 (the debit, the regular and the platinum) and I got rid of the debit...I think maybe because they stopped offering rewards? I honestly don't remember exactly now but it was a big enough change for me to cancel it.

I know there are cards that could earn more/better/different rewards but for me I love my Disney cards. I use the Platinum (2%) for groceries, restaurants and gas then the regular one for everything else then pay them both off at the end of their month. I missed the 4% thing....hmmm wonder if I should check into that??

This is what we do. I use my Amex Blue Cash Preferred for 6% at Grocery Stores and 3% at Gas Stations and places like Sears/Macys/Kohls that also net me 3%. We use the Disney Premier for 2% at restaurants and Disney Locations. My BCP cash earnings go towards Disney gift cards that will also get me 6% off at the grocery store. All our credit card rewards go towards Disney vacations that we take yearly. Usually these are for extras like dinner shows or recreation. This year we are doing BBB then the Royal Table for our 3 year old...not sure who is more excited.

I know for awhile there was a period of time where the debit could't get into the extra places but that seems to have gone away.. your probably right on it no longer being offered but anyone with it is back to normal.. I don't have it to know.

Also to note...sometimes they do promotions where they will increase a spend category. Currently our utilities are 4% back and these are bills that usually get paid on the Disney card. Nice to have that extra 3%.

I have it and I would not do it again in hindsight. I just don't find it is "worth it" compared to other cards.

I have the card which I rarely use. It's more a discount card when disney discounts are better with the card than other discounts. It's also the entrance card for the lounges they sometimes have available and meet and greets.

I have one of my monthly bills that go to it just to keep it active but I find other cards are usually more fruitful but they don't get you into the lounges or meet and greets if that is of interest..

They let us in the character meet n greet at EP with the chase Disney debit card. When opening our chase checking, we chose that debit card. For us, it sort of negates our personal value in the Disney credit cards (mainly the 10% off merchandise over $50, character greet), as both the bonus and 1-2% can be topped. But still nice to have a Disney logoed card and the convenience of Disney gift card directly vs. converting it if you went with a different card.

Are you taking about the rewards $$'s that you get using your Disney charge card?? You can absolutely use the discount from Visa on top of paying with the rewards card - that is just like cash there!

Just returned - no issues at restaurants or stores - in fact used it mostly at restaurants. Some are giving 20% with the AP's through Sept. so used it instead of chg. card at those restaurants.

Two places it didn't work were Trail's End and Skipper Canteen. The servers told me I couldn't do it. If I had the rules handy, I'm sure I could have discussed it with a manager, but I didn't want to let it "ruin" my visit. We had good servers both times, and it just wasn't worth it. I used the actual credit card instead, got the discount, and used my reward $ elsewhere.

Now that I think about it, it did work just fine at World of Disney.
