Apple to launch low-cost MacBook

Price - $599. Apple have always been an expensive, luxury brand, now they're trying to appeal to the budget market. That's what, £450?
From what I have read the specs and performance would be similar to the M1 which is often sold for $599, but with the A18 Pro chip instead of Apple’s M series. The price is rumored to be in the $599-$699 range. So I don’t know that it will make a huge splash. It may just mean that Apple discontinues the older M series sales going forward instead of dropping the price.

I see this as being a good fit for the consumers that buy the base iPad and iPhone 16e. A solid base piece of hardware without all the bells and whistles. If you don’t need the fancy extras, then it’s nice to get Apple quality on a current product for a lower price.

It kind of makes sense to me. They have been doing the SE stuff with phones/watches, why not make a computer with that concept I guess. I have been perfectly happy w/my SE version of the watch. Something like that might be a good fit for me if I buy a new computer. I like the Mac more for the interface than performance. I currently have a MacBook Pro, and yea, I do not come near using it to its potential. I also have an old MacBook Air that is like from the last generation that they made 11 inch screens. For what I do, it is adequate. I still use that for my sitting outside and travel computer. Really the only thing wrong with it is somehow scratched the screen and that bugs me. So, yea I don't need much power. I am probably would be the target audience for something like that.
