Would driving into LA be practical?

We have finally decided to go to DL March 8-14, 2008. We will be staying at the GC with our DVC points. We plan to spend 4 days in the parks and then we want to see some of LA/Hollywood.

How practical would it be to rent a car at DL and drive up to LA for the day?

We are considering doing it this way so as not to pay OOP for a hotel in LA. Since we are using our points at GC we thought that this would be a good home base and then we could make a side trip or two. It really is an ordeal to move the 5 of us to multiple hotels but we can do it if neccessary. Are we crazy to drive into LA? Can we really see the basic tourist sights in a day?

DH lived in Anaheim and worked in LA some years ago so we have some basic understanding of the area and the traffic.

Is this a realistic plan?

There are 5 of us and we did just that a couple of years ago. We stayed at DL but took a day to go to Hollywood and just walked around, etc. I would say do it if you've never been there before. Close to Hollywood is the Farmer's Market as well as The Grove. You can do lots of eating and lots of shopping around there. We found that a day was plenty for us to see what we wanted to. Oh, and we even caught a movie at Grauman's Chinese Theater which was pretty cool.

We did that a few of our off nights in 05. Went to a few of the beaches as well. Even up to US for the City walk and just walked around.

It's not that bad at all and yes you can hit traffic but you can still get around very good.

Thanks NostalgicDad and Imnoprince! I feel better already about this. I think that we will just stay at GC and take a day trip into LA. Its so much easier to pack/unpack only one time. :goodvibes

Have fun! Also, if you feel like it, drive up into the Hollywod Hills area. Some really cool, twisty roads and spectacular homes/views.

This is a great idea! I think that we will easily fill a day. Plus we will fly out of LAX so we could add a little more sightseeing in LA on the morning of our flight. Thanks again!
