Would a Postage Stamp Offend you?

I can see why a Jewish person might not want Mary and Jesus on a postage stamp, can't you? :confused3

The "too white" comment confuses me at best. :confused3
The Customer was Afro American.

From a technical pointof view if you licked the back of a Virgin Mary stamp, ould she still be a virgin? :rotfl:

:rotfl2: You are so going to hell for that! :lmao:

Thanks, just what I thought! :thumbsup2

Okay, but when I come through your line and you ask if I'd like to donate to "whatever", that's when I'm gonna go "postal" on you! :lmao:

I think it is funny that JEsus is mostly depicted as someone resembling a white hippie. Realistically, if he passes some Americans on the street today, they might wonder which terrorist cell he belonged to. My point is, folks want to see the Jesus as is in their mind's eye. An African American might want tosee a picture of Jesus looking a little less like the old Ted Nugent and a liitle more darks skinned like he really probably was.

I would have thought that grocery stores would carry the most generic stamps possible. :confused3 And leave all the other fancier options to the post office. I'd go with snowflakes or something. Though, I suppose that leaves out those in tropical climates. :teeth: You can't win. :rotfl:

I personally wouldn't buy the religious ones as I'm not religious myself and wouldn't feel comfortable using them. So I would have just said "OK, thanks, never mind." And been on my way. :sunny: Some people just like to be ornery. (Geez, I sound like my grandmother!)

Oh you're gonna need a handbasket. :lmao:

You just can't win in customer service. At RiteAid we always had the non-religious ones, with Santa or reindeers or whatever. I would get comments about *not* having the Mary and Jesus ones, taking Christ out of Christmas and all that. And this was Seattle, hardly the Bible belt. Cashiering sucks.

It's supposed to get an envelope from point A to point B...not be a political or religious statement. Just lick it, stick it, and shaddup. :teeth:

So how about stamps that say "I worship Satan" with a big smiling Satan on them? Or maybe pictures of suicide bombers or Osama Bin Ladin?

We all make statements with the stamps we buy. I know I buy Mickey ones whenever I can and try to get something neutral other times. Right now I've got snowflake stamps. I pass on the religious ones because I don't believe in God. I'm not saying they can't/shouldn't make stamps like that but they shouldn't only sell stamps like that. Give people a choice.

Easy to say with a smiley when you don't mind getting them, yourself.

Then I guess my way of thinking is illogical to many, but it wouldn't bother me at all to use stamps with "I worship Satan" on them. Reason? I don't think the people at the power company or mortgage company a thousand miles away care what I do or if I worship at all. And friends and family I'd send mail to already *know* I don't worship Satan and would realize they were most likely the only stamps available when I made my purchase.

But I do agree...people *should* have a choice. :teeth:

I never buy the religious stamps, nor cards. They don't "offend" me, it's just not my cup of tea.

We could just stick to American flag stamps at the grocery store but then some people would want to burn their mail. You can't win when you're a cashier.

If you really care about what stamp you want, order them directly from the post office or go to the post office. Don't begrudge the cashier at the grocery store.

I really really try to avoid religious stamps. Around Easter, I can deal with eggs or bunnies, if I must. I'd prefer Passover stamps if I could get them, but the ten plagues or a doorway smeared with blood I guess aren't cute images... :confused3

With so many stamp options available, I'd balk at Madonna and Child stamps myself. Then again, I am totally enamored of the purple heart stamps I have from the last time I bought stamps. I'd feel so weird using the religious stamps but the veteran support is awesome to me.

The African American asked me to "give her another set of stamps" so I asked the Cashier behind me, if she had any "non Christmas stamps" she did, and they were the "American Flag." I told the AA Customer, "I hope these aren't "too white" for you." She snatched them out of my hand, and away she went. :rolleyes1

Well ... that was snarky of you.

I would not want to buy Muslim themed stamps to send my Xmas cards.

But no it would not offend me.

When I was little, I always knew which Christmas cards were coming from my Grandparents (both sets) - they were the only ones besides my Mother that had the religious stamps. Everyone else used the other seasonal ones. :rotfl2:

Me - I don't buy them either. I am not the most religious person, but I prefer the "cuter" stamps. If I need stamps & the Post Office only has the religious ones, I just have the person working the desk stamp what ever they want on the one or two pieces of mail I need sent out right then.

omg i can't believe people actually got offended over stamps. *shakes head* stupid.

honestly.....go somewhere else and buy stamps, you know?? just don't buy them if you don't like them. it's not really that hard.
