Working on Weight Loss During Training—New Year New Us!

Good morning, everyone! Thank you for the hugs, Dave, and for your positive spirit. I wonder if you have any idea how much energy you bring to this thread?

Cam, Darlin do you have any idea how glad Erica and I were to find the WISH site. To many of the health related sites are all about hard bodies and flirting. WISH is about real people doing the best we can and having fun and companionship.:flower3:

I need to stay focused myself, the Senior Olympics are in a little less than 2 months.

A long time ago in a galaxie far far away, in the Jungles of Vietnam, the warriors who made it through the hard battles had a mind set. It's not the man who THINKS he is going to survive that makes it but the man who KNOWS he will. That's the attitude I need to have again.

My eating was spot on yesterday till bed time then I started craving food, I stole one of Erica's low fat icecream bars and went to bed before I could start power snacking.

Have a great day y'all, keep the smile going and walk proud, most of you are marathoners!

Dave:hippie:

Cam and Kristi - When I saw the pictures on DisneyRunning, I did not see anything as horrible as you say. I thought you all looked fabulous and happy... that's the best part. Why does running Disney make people so happy?

Dave - I had the nighttime munchies also, and I caved, big time. I was alone and that is a bad thing! The girls were sleeping and DH has been working late nights because of deadlines, so last night he was in bed at 8 because he could. So there I was with the whole kitchen calling my name. I drank a diet soda and that helped for awhile. But I did cave a little and had some potato chips. Today is a new day!

Last night I roasted a chicken so I have chicken in the fridge for quick healthy meals. Also, I packed fruit and carrots for snacks today if I need them. Today for lunch I have a volunteer recognition to go to. PLEASE LET IT BE SOMEWHAT HEALTHY! I think it may since it is at the YMCA. Tonight I am going to hit the indoor track during DD's gymnastics.

Have a great day all!

Jen good luck on the recognition event having healthy food to munch on. Can always hope.

Hi everyone :yay:

Okay I don't have time to get to everyone but need to say this...

Cam - Nice to see you back :grouphug: BTW - The only thing I noticed in the pics was your pretty smiling face :)

So far so good.... I've had two strong weeks of being on plan "most" of the time. I was able to buy a one size smaller outfit for my MBA graduation and it felt wonderful!!! Very motivating and hoping to keep at it  Though I may slurge on Sat for my faves just for that special day ;)

WISHing everyone the best. I'll try to catch up soon.

Hey all.. My lunch yesterday went well. The meal was healthy, so that made me happy. Then I managed 45 minutes on the indoor track while DD had gymnastics. The scale was kind this morning, so I hope it finally sticks there and stops yo-yoing.

My biggest struggle right now is evening eating/snacking. So I am back to concentrating on that. If I don't eat dinner until 7pm, then there is no reason I need to snack before bed. I need to ingrain that in my head!!!!!

Dave – There was an interesting meditation on SP today that said that if all we do is work on our weaknesses, we end up with a lot of strong weaknesses. Instead, I think we have to focus on the positive changes we have made in our lives and continue to strengthen those positives. I am so happy for you that you had your limited, low cal treat and went to bed. I call this “quarantining” myself! :) I am so excited that you are sharing your journey with us as you prepare for the Senior Olympics!

Jen – You did great with just the diet soda and a few chips. I think it is important for us to allow ourselves a treat when we want/need it. As soon as we start feeling deprived and resenting this “life change” that we are all hoping to stick with, we are so much more likely to lose control more quickly and frequently. I do have to share, though, that when I realized I wasnt’ getting my dairy servings in and started reminding myself to have some skim milk in the evening to make up any deficiency, I discovered that skim milk is very filling and I absolutely did not want anything else to eat after the milk.
I am so glad they had healthy food at your volunteer recognition event. Great job on getting that workout in! :thumbsup2

Minnie – :woohoo: Woohoo on the smaller size!! How cool is that!?!?!? Congratulations on being so close to graduation. I cannot even imagine the exhilaration, anticipation and relief you must already be feeling.

I shared this on the training thread, but wanted to tell you guys, too. Here’s the cross-post:

Okay, here is my fabulous news. After 12 years and 3 months (I was diagnosed in February 1995 and my condition worsened after that), I was released this morning from my cardiologist's care. He was absolutely ecstatic with a picture perfect EKG, 110/70 BP, 70 pulse (IIRC) and "very impressive weight loss". When I told him the scale isn't moving much, he said I've lost a lot since last March and that I'd obviously converted fat to muscle because I was "so much smaller sitting there on that table compared to last year!" Even now, i am getting all teared up thinking about all that positive feedback. I showed him my Mickey medal and he was over the top, bragging to the 2 residents about how he'd literally feared for my life while I'd been treating with him and they thought my condition was uncurable and the prognosis wasn't good, and how thoughts of my condition now make him smile.

Oh, and on the marathon? When I told him I'd walked, not run, he said "oh yeah, I walked 26 miles before -- between 1986 and 1992!" LOL!!

I told him I do it all as part of a team that strives to get and stay fit through training for walking and running events and he said, "well, you can tell your team that I said you are one of its success stories!" What a nice way to start my day!

OMG CAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:dance3: :grouphug: :cheer2:

That is wonderful. I'm so excited for you. I was telling someone at the Pig event that those WISH gals are awesome, most have at least one marathon to their credit and some have even finished the Goofy.

GO CAM!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone,

Minnie: Congrats on going down a size. That's definately an accomplishment. Also, congrats on the MBA graduation. I'm sure it was a lot of work. Enjoy your splurge, you deserve it.

Jen: I always save a couple WW pts for after dinner. I just have to have a treat when I'm done with all the work of the day. I like Hood Light ice cream sandwiches. They're just 2 pts. I also have discovered Nesquik powder. They've changed their formula to have less sugar so I add a bit (usually 1/2 of what they recommend) to my skim milk and it's great. I have been using that as my post run recovery drink since it has roughly a 3:1 carb to protein ratio. Another snack I like is baked doritos. The spices help cover the fact that they're not as tasty as the real thing. I buy them in the single serving bags so I'm not tempted to eat too many.

Cam: Great meditation about not working on the weaknesses. It is really important to focus on the positive. It's just a big adjustment for those of us who try to spot what's wrong and then work to fix it. Congrats on the great news from your doctor. It really is amazing.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Good morning athletes.

I had a wonderful walk this morning. I went to the WKU Hills for a good strength workout. It was an out and back route with the worst hill right in the middle. It's not as long as the Flying Pig Hill to Eden park but just as steep. It's 4.5 miles and I did it in a new PR or 58:02. I felt very strong and the effort easy. I could have turned aeround and done it all over again.

I'm encouraged that I'm getting stronger. I need to feel the magic.

Have a great day everyone, remember the smile.

Dave:hippie:

Great job, Dave! :cool1:

Thanks everyone, for the good WISHes!

Cindy -- I hadn't thought about the Nesquick powder. If I only use a tiny bit, it wouldn't even be enough to count one of my WW flex points on core. What a great idea. I've also heard that the sugar free fat free chocolate pudding mix is really good in milk. YUM! I bought a 1/2 gallon of skim milk in the hopes that I'll meet my 2 non-fat dairy servings/day requirement every day. I may have to earmark some for nesquick. I think I've heard that Hershey's syrup now has a sugar free version, too. I am imagining that mixed with cool whip free for a light snack.

How are the rest of our WISHers doing today? I hope that the support we get here will help us all be really strong going into and through the weekend. I really do not want to mess up my core plan winning streak, which is why I have not used a single one of my 35 flex points. If I am in a situation this weekend where I can't eat core foods, I can still remain on core by using those points. Mothers Day dinner will be a challenge, but I am looking forward to a steak or salmon with a huge baked potato. I may even share a dessert with DH.

I am really happy that I have stayed on track 3 days with eating only core foods and doing my 100 crunches and 100 pushups each night. Hope I can maintain the exercise over the weekend, too, though you'd think it would be easier, not harder, right?

Good morning WISH Warriors. Ok who did I catch without a smile? We have every reason to smile we are on a journey to finding our selves. A journey many fear to take. We are daily testing our limits and bursting through them.

I started speed work today for the Senior Olympics which are 7 weeks away. I'm doing the 1500m and the 5K racewalking events.

I need to drop a about 5 to 10 lbs before race day so I need to focus on that and leave the darn snacks alone. I was doing good till the Pig weekend and then got off the wagon. Kinda appropiate name for that adventure, the Pig Out weekend.

Dave:hippie:

Hi Everyone,

I have to confess I had a bit of a Pig Out weekend myself. I went to my niece's bday party today and just ate way too much. And even worse, I didn't measure or count anything. I'm sure I went over my points, but don't even know by how much. My streak ends at 19 days.

I did enjoy myself at the time, but now I feel like I sort of wasted a week's worth of effort. I guess I we all need to splurge now and again. I just hope I'm able to get back to eating better tomorrow.

Have a good night everyone.

Cindy

Cindy, the important thing is the future the past is over, forget it and move on. Yes we have to splurge sometimes or go nuts. I waited to long and I'm now terminally nuts, beyond all hope.

Dave:hippie:

Hi everyone :flower3:

I'm back. Graduation was beyond awesome and inspiring. The keynote speaker was a graduate of the college and a retired military leader. He made a statement that really stayed with me...

"Anything is possible with a why not attitude!" I'm going to carry those words with me and remember it when times are difficult. I'm hoping that when I question what is possible I remember to respond with why not!

Cindy - I spent the weekend celebrating and gained back a couple of what I had lost. Tomorrow is a new day and I'm back on track. Planning to add some extra water to my day and hope to wash the bad weekend away :laundy:

WISHing everyone the best :wizard:

Ok where is everyone. Is it me? I took a bath, even used that sample of deoderant (it tasted terrible though) is fresh breath really worth all that?

Seriously has everyone been obducted by ailiens? Or is everyone out dancing, struting their new sleek bods?

I will be going down to the big city today to find where I test on sunday. I have to take a certification test for contact lenes. We always get lost there so we decided to do our walk there along the river walk.

Have a great day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Dave -- I hope you have a great trip and an awesome walk! And no, it's not you!

I can't seem to keep up with all the WISH threads I'd like to post to, as well as the challenge I am running on sparkpeople and journaling all food and exercise there!

Things have been going well and I have a 7 day winning streak of being on WW core, journaling all my food and exercise on SP, and doing 100 crunches and 100 push ups every day. :woohoo:

My calorie counts for the past week are pretty good for me, too. SP recommends 1200-1550 for me to lose as much as I am striving for.
Here are my calorie counts since I got back on track
5/8--1280
5/9 -- 1611 (a little high, but also had 30 minutes of exercise; extra calories were from a vitamin water! :confused3 )
5/10 -- 1066
5/11 -- 1181
5/12 -- 1082
5/13 -- 1513
5/14 -- 1127

Cindy -- glad to hear you are back on track. We all need our splurges once in a while. What is important is what we do next!

Minnie -- :woohoo: on your graduation!!!

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are all off to a great day. I was too tired to get up in time to bike before work, but I'm going to do 45 minutes while ds has gymnastics this evening. I also packed a great healthy lunch, and I've switched my breakfast -- now I'm having a light raisin English muffin w/butter spray and a WW yogurt.

My lunch is also good. I'm having a LC most days, and two veggies and two fruits. Today it's carrots, celery, blueberries and kiwi.

I bought a great selection of desserts for after dinner in various point values -- Smart Ones, ice pops, hostess 100 cal paks (only 1pt!!), and yummy Skinny Cow cones. I'm also pointing my dinners, so even when I go over, I am fully aware.

I'm researching a portable music system for dh and I to get so we will get outside and run. I asked on the weekly running thread, and the recommendation I got was for an ipod nano and Nike system. That sounds great, so I'm going to look into getting them. I need to hurry up, my first 5K is June 9th!

Cam Like you, I'm having a hard time keeping up with all the threads. I have a little more time now, but I do have to do some work at the office and at home...it's so inconvenient!:lmao: 100 crunches and pushups! You are going to have rock hard abs and serious arms!

DaveIt's not you! You are the ray of sunshine on this thread!:goodvibes The river walk sounds so relaxing. I bet it is beautiful. I am so proud of you and encouraged by you doing the Senior Olympics. That is amazing!

Minnie Congratulations! I hope you are still basking in the glow of your accomplishments!:cloud9:

Cindy We're all going to have setbacks, the key is just to pick ourselves up and keep going, which you are doing!:) Don't beat yourself up, 19 days is amazing! I would be so proud of myself if I managed that. Ok, when I manage that!;)

Jen This is the hardest time of the year for evening snacking for me. For some reason, I feel like I need to eat while I watch all the season finales. I know, that's pretty silly, I just associate the "ending ceremony" with food. I made a deal with myself that I could eat whatever I want during the Stargate series finale if I don't eat during any of the other finales. It's only an hour or two, so how much can I possibly shovel in?:happytv:

I'd better get back to what they pay me for...:surfweb: Can you believe it's not chatting with my WISH buddies?!:rotfl2:

Maria

Maria -- you crack me up! I have the same problem with snacking during tv. Now, I only watch Heroes (with DSalmost14) and only eat a piece of fruit or 94% ff popcorn, but I really just want to eat everything I can find.

As for music, if you don't feel like you NEED a screen to see what song is playing or what is coming up, I highly recommend an ipod shuffle just because it is so tiny. I got a lime green one. I have over 100 songs on it and there is still plenty of room on it. I clip it to the strap of my sport bra at my left shoulder and the headphones take up more room that the shuffle. The good thing is I don't have a band around my arm or a clip on the outside of my clothes.
A nano is a bit bigger and has a readout screen. DD loves hers, but for me it is bigger and has more capacity than I need for training sessions. If I were using the same unit for all the time, and not just running, I'd get the nano.

I must confess, however, that I have an ipod video that I use for long treadmill sessions (I watch great musicals and movies with very "up" music like "step up" and "coyote ugly" ;) ). I wouldn't want to carry that thing on a long wog, though! :)

Hi Everyone,

Dave: Sorry not to post sooner. I usually find some time to post when I'm at work, but for some reason today I actually have work to do. It's so unfair!! OK, not really. Since I only work 3 days a week I can't complain much. My 4 "at home" days are usually far busier, between taking care of 3 kids, a hubby, a house, not to mention finding time to train.

Have a good time in the big city. It's nice to have a change of scenery.

Minnie: I'm glad you treated yourself over the weekend. You must be so proud of your accomplishment.

Cam: Good job on staying within your calories. I'm super impressed with all the crunches and push ups you do. I'd be willing to bet I haven't done a total of 100 crunches in the past year.

Maria: Good job on eating healthy. My only advice about an MP3 is to stay away from the Sansa 240. There's some software glitch that causes me to have to reformat it at least once a month and then reload my music. It's quite annoying.

I'm happy to announce that despite going over my points on Saturday and not counting points on Sunday I managed to still lose 2 lbs this week.

My new streak sits at 1 since I did manage to get back on plan yesterday.

I've been looking for quotes to put in my signature and I found one I think is great.

"There are no shortcuts to any place worth going." - Beverly Sills

I guess as long as I keep at it, I'll get there eventually.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

We decided not to walk the river walk since it looked like rain so we just found the testing area and messed around in the mall and had a super lunch of grilled salmon and shrimp. We are going to relax and then go out and walk when it cools down a little.

Here are some pics of our new wish shirt that we had made to wear at WISH parties and expos. Click on the pic and it will get bigger and see two more. That is Erica's little go car that we drive to DisneyWorld.
