I can't even remember the last time I went over 20 in a week! Maybe high school? Which probably means PRs in both races isn't likely, but that won't stop me from trying. :bounce:
Oh Matt..I see a PR in your future! You like to push yourself and this is what you are doing now! :thumbsup2

Judy - WTG on the race! I am so proud of how far you have come! :cool1: Any excuse for talking about training is allowed for me! I even show off my knees that are healing to show what an athelete I am! More like idot! :rotfl:

Sunny :sunny: - Can I tell you something funny? When I did my 1st WDW marathon, I passed a girl at mile 7ish that was speed walking...Ron looked at me and said, "you realize that it took us 7 something miles to catch up with her"? That girl was booking......and I know by that time, you will run too! We won't be ablee to catch you.

Ran 6 this morning with sis and JRT! We ran on some trails. I am trying to taper, but really don't want to so there won't be much training this week.

OK, I totally skimmed, so apologies to those I missed.

Michelle - Welcome!!!

Kevin - So soryr you have been sick! Smart choice to not make things worse, but when you're better, I'm gonna' come kick your butt if you don't get your traning in gear!!!

Judy - Way to goo!!!!

Jen - Great job on your race!!!

Amy - I am so sorry. I hope things get better soon.

Dave good job on your 9-miler!

Kim - Thanks for popping in! Stop being a slacker, though, you'll be a bad influence on me. ;) ;)

I did it! I did my 9-miler on my own! Pretty hilly cousre, so I was pretty happy with a 10:47 pace. Beatuful fall mornig, was directed to a beautiful path, the surface was a fine, hard packed limestone. Very smooth and level adn very easy on teh joints. I loved it!!!! I'll try to post pics later.

On my last mile, one of the Ice Prices songs cam on. Blanking rigth now, but it made me think of my WISH teammates. It was an awesome ending to an awesome run. I wished I was home so I coudl post right away! BTW - I have 3 more women drooling over runnin gthe DIsney marathon!

Judy - I will never froget the first time someone askedus if we were training for a marathon. What a great feeling!

BTW, Over the weeknd I was thinging we should report Slade to the Penguin! ;)

Darn work getting in the way of my Dis time! :badpc: I am in full marathon training mode now. I took it easy the week after the DL 1/2, but I returned to my marathon training last week. I did the Race for the Cure on Saturday. I raised $1100, and there were over 20,000 participants in the race. Saw Dracula at the Houston Ballet on Saturday night, which was fantastic. I got in my 45 minutes of walking/running this morning at the gym. My garmin has been acting crazy for 2 months now. Do you think there is a timer in them that causes them to go crazy after a certain period of time so we all have to buy a new one? Maybe the Garmin satellites just need to be adjusted.

We bought our plane tickets for January, and we have reservations at the Dolphin. I paid for the Illuminations Dessert Party. Less than 100 days to go?! :scared1:

Congratulations to Sunny on Applefest! :cheer2:

Great job Judy on your PR! :cheer2: Your stories make me laugh out loud. Thank you for brightening my day!

Carrie- I am glad to hear that Scott is feeling better. :wizard: that the recovery continues.

Michelle- I have been training for over 2 years now, and I still find it hard to run for extended periods of time. The best approach if you have not been running for a long time (or ever) is to start with intervals. If you find walk 4 minutes/run 1 minute too difficult, you could either (a) SLOW DOWN! or (b) start with run 4&1/2 minutes/run 30 seconds. The goal is endurance not speed. You do not have to run fast, you simply have to put in the steps. As John Bingham points out, there is no need for speed. We look forward to hearing what the doctor says tomorrow. Don't forget to fill us in.

Hi all!!

Thank you for all your well wishes. I feel like I'm on the mend. Luckily I have today as a crosstraining day so I can take it easy and hopefully get a good run in tomorrow.

Jen-- I'm sorry, but "Parade of Beef"? :lmao: If you could be inside my head right now.........

Amy-- Glad to know I'm not all alone with my training issues right now. This is supposed to be a 30 mile week and if I can just get well enough and get the runs in I feel like I will be right back where I need to be.

Judy-- Great race report!! I empathize with your shopping story. You should see what I spent at Roadrunner Sports website this weekend. Even with my discount it was really pricey...and that didn't even include SHOES! (Or the amphipod I bought last week...) Thank goodness for half-price shoes through work. :teeth:

Carrie-- I'm thinking about it, I'm thinking about it. Let's get through this week first.

Heather-- $ 1100!!! WTG! :thumbsup2

Today's crosstraining will pretty much consist of homework and sucking on cough drops, but hopefully I will have nipped this thing in the bud and have a good morning 3 miler to start the week.

Happy training all!
Kevin :earsboy:

Judy-- congrats on your 5K :cheer2: What a great report! Before you know it, you'll have shoes coming out of the woodwork and not know what to do with them :rotfl2:

Speedy-- half-priced shoes? Hmmm, I'm in the wrong profession

Heather-- wow, congrats on the fund raising.

MelR & Christa-- The guy I mentioned before who can no longer run speedwalks upto a 11mpm pace :faint:

Kristi-- thank you soooo much for the pep talk :grouphug: :cloud9: I just have to get my head on right :rotfl:

Carrie-- great job on the 9miler! Fall is the best time to run :cloud9:

back to work :furious:

You know, I am not sure what the Parade of Beef is all about. We didn't stay for that. The whole thing was so weird. Each little area had a theme, like Pirates and Cows and stuff. It was like Halloween with beef cooking. But the race was great!!!!! When the update the website with pics from this year, I am going to post them!!!

Judy- I loved your race report! You did awesome girl! :thumbsup2 About the shoes, I wear Asics Kayanos & so does my mom. But because she needs wides, she wears the mens shoe & it seems to be working out great for her. Just an FYI for the next time you go shopping. Last time I was at the running store I went in just to get socks & Jelly Bellies. The guy asked "what are you training for?" and I proudly told him I was doing the DL 1/2! It is a very cool feeling to all us "adult onset athletes" :woohoo:

Sunny- I am so glad you finished Applefest. I totally relate to feeling bad if you cant do the full (I relate, doesnt mean it right) I was so mad about my performance at the Minnie even though I finished & got my medal. And I wasnt real thrilled with my DL time even though I said before the race that I would just be happy to finish since my ankle was bothering me. But Kristi is right. You have already accomplished so much more than 90% of the population. Be proud & hang out at the back of the pack with us in January :teeth:

Heather- WTG on the RftC!!! That's awesome! Are you training for the full?

Carrie-Awesome pace on that hilly 9 miler!!!!!! You rock!

Kevin- Hope you get to feeling better & can get back to training soon :wizard:

Matt- Good luck to you & DW for this weekend. How lucky you are that close!

Sara- Good for you for getting in those steps. I know burnout can happen but hopefully you'll catch all the WDW pixie dust excitement soon :wizard:

Believe it or not I am glad to be back into "training mode' I have been such a big (and will keep getting bigger at this rate) slug since DL. Its time to hit training head on now & get ready for January. I cannot believe it is so close. :dance3:

Mel-I forgot to tell you I loved those pants you got. Good luck to you this weekend too!

Kristi- Come on out for the Niagara Falls 1/2!!! Bring Chad. I'd love to have some WISH team mates there. I didn't remember that the Minnie was your first race. Wow, you have really come a long way! I loved your DL 1/2 report, all the pictures were fantastic!!! So do you have to wait in line to take pictures with the characters? Do they have handlers with cameras and the photopass thing?

Thanks!

And as for the pics, there is always a 'handler' CM with a character. I hardly ever waited for pics. And the few times I did, there was only one person ahead of me. It really doesn't take much time at all - most people don't stop for pictures during a race! :teeth: Oh, no Photopass CMs either - you use your own camera.

Maybe we can come up for the Niagara race next year. Somehow we always end up at WDW for any vacations though. :scratchin But seriously, we really need to cut back on Disney trips and see other places in this world! And what a good reason to go to Niagara Falls. With Chad soon exploring, umm, shall we say, new professions - we will need to cut back on Disney and do some cheaper things now. Besides, if I come to Niagara, I can take a mini-tour of Buffalo and see all the Goo Goo Dolls "places."

Again, no training today. My first 2 days of MfM and I do nothing. I am so upset with myself right now. I was so tired when I got home, I took a 4.5 hour nap. I have to ship some eBay things, get ready for work tomorrow & get to bed. I really thought with Chad working less right now, I'd have my act together. Guess I was wrong!

Jodi :wave2: :lmao: :lmao: Did I check out the course for the 1/2 marathon? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Only about daily... I'm really excited about the race.
hehe - I'm the same way about the Hartford Half Marathon....although, for some reason today I decided to check registration on the website - well, they have me down for the correct race, and Bob (DH) for the correct race, but my friend Heather that is supposed to be running with me -- is down as running the full, and I'm not totally sure why....when I tried to call her I couldn't get ahold of her (hope to hear from her by Morning).

Hartford should be pretty cool with all of the foliage, etc. I'm going to try and take pictures while running since DH won't be able to take pictures -- he will be running the 5k at the same time that I am starting the half.

Ooooooh, it would be FANTASTIC if another WISHer was doing the race, but I don't remember hearing anyone else doing it. Here's the website.

Maybe I'm wrong :confused3 I thought someone else here was looking into running a half in October too?

Thanks Jodi. I need to sit down and put some more thought into my special "surprise" package I want to give her. Ooooh, one other thing I thought of putting in is a gift certificate to a store that sells Crocs. [/QUOTE] Great idea.....I love my Crocs.....I have the Mary Janes and they are super comfy....I have a pair of the others too but I tend to trip a lot with the other on.....Mary Janes are smaller to deal with :teeth: They are only available at Journeys though.

BTW, great job on your workout yesterday. That's awesome!!! :thumbsup2
Oh - Thank you! :goodvibes Tonight is my night off but back to work tomorrow night for me. :teeth:

Great job Judy!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I love going celebration shopping -- enjoy your new shoes :goodvibes I love my Asics too! my second pair are Mizunos (love those too!).

So when is the next race?

Hi Everyone,

I need some opinions -- As you may or may not have read earlier, my friend that will be coming back to CT to run the Hartford race with me is registered for the Full not the Half Marathon.

Well, I'm kind of wondering if it would be okay to try and finish the Full as well? I would love to be able to hang out with my friend as much as possible while she is here in CT.

Total WISH team weight loss so far: 456.8 lbs!

Jen...I gotta quit skimming...how could I have missed the Parade of Beef? :lmao:

Jody...maybe we're twins...I run in ASICs (Cumulus) for SR and Mizuno (Inspire) for LR. I have to admit, though, I am coveting DD13s new FILA Testament...they're like walking on a cloud.

Tiff...that's not slug stuff...that's post-race recovery ;)

Kimickey...welcome back!

Judy...congrats on your 5K!

Carrie...congrats on your 9!

Heather...congrats on RftC! Anyone see the ads with the lady smearing pink war paint on her face before the race? Kinda cool!

Actually, we've decided to head up to WDW Fri night instead of Sat morning. I'm thinking about maybe possibly signing up for RftC if the fam would tolerate two in one weekend. Not so sure the foot would be happy about two races in one weekend either

Well, I managed to get out and do 4.15 miles tonight with a pace of 11:12. I didn't think it was too bad considering my legs were still a little tight from this past weekend. One more short run and I should be ready for RFTT.

Mel - Go ahead and do two races. I did that last year and had a blast. I would do it again this year but for some reason DS needs someone to look after him and paying babysitters/IL's to go to Disney gets a tad expensive. Especially after going to California.

Jodi - If you feel your training has gone far enough to get you to a full marathon distance, then go for it. However, if you haven't trained to go that far yet, you could get injured if you push your body too much. The last 13 miles seem to be the hardest and somewhere after 20 miles your body could be decide to rebel.

Heather - Great job raising the money. I am probably the worlds worst fundraiser so I am impressed by anyone who can get out and do that. That is one reason I don't do Team in Training.

Judy - Glad to hear you did well in your race. Although I think I like your celebration shopping spree more. It is always great to be recognized as a runner.

Matt - You should have no problem setting PR's this weekend. If you get towards the front of the races, you could be carried for the first part if you plan it right. :teeth:

Sunny - Glad to hear you have the tickets. Just take it one training run at a time and don't worry too much about it. I have times as well where I wonder if I really want to do this or not.

For those whose Garmin has been acting up, I haven't had any problems with mine recently. I think today was about .04 miles off from normal but I usually attribute that to deviations in my path and the slight tree cover I go under at times. It is possible for the GPS satellites to read off at times. They usually fix themselves over time though. If it keeps acting up, you could reset the Garmin and see if that helps any.

Bill

Okay guys, :) I've decided...I'm going to hold my feet to the fire and get out and run tomorrow. Handsdown no excuses. I'm in the Air Force for goodness sakes, this is unacceptable. I'll check in tomorrow and let you guys know what I did :) and how many miles I ran.

Thanks Bill - That's what I thought.. I definetly don't want to injure myself and not be able to go to Disney....I'm keeping my registration to the Half Marathon. I don't know what my friend was thinking.

It should be fun either way -- there is entertainment along the course. :goodvibes

Jodi - I'll bet they will let your friend switch. Disney is the only race I've ever done that has such strict guidelines that way.

Hi Everyone,

Well, just got some bad news from my friend in Florida, that was supposed to come to CT to run in Hartford with me. She won't be able to come :guilty: - - so I'm sticking to the Half Marathon (the wiser choice anyhow).

I'm a little bit bummed that I won't be able to run it with her but -- oh well! I really hope she is still able to run in Disney with me.

Jodi - Bummer that your friend can't come, but I do think the half is a wiser choice. We were looking at an Ocitober fulland just could not make it work with reverse taper and such.

mel - I think you could do it if you did not push, and your family was not put out. Sounds like fun!

Kim - Waiting for your report on your run! ;)

Heather - WTG on RftC!! That's great!! Conrats on getting into full mode too!

Tiff - COngrats on getting in training mode!

Kristi - As long as this is not day 3, you're fine. Just don't go too long! And don't do it several weeks in a row. ;)

Garmins - Mine's been weird lately too. I'm thinking that perhaps the changing season and earht's revolution ahave changed the angeles to the sattelites or something. Seems liek I had issues in the spring too.

Jodi - How far have you trained up to thus far??? I cannot remember. :confused3 This is going to be the facture in running a full instead of a 1/2. I don't know if I would attempt it if I had run less than 18....If your friend is running it, I really would not try to run a full. This advice would be different too, if you had run a marathon before. I just don't know if I would chance it.
Sorry to be a downer, this will be something you will have to really think about.
