Dave-did you tell yet or is that next weekend? I don't want to miss it.
Nope, I didn't tell DW yet. The day I had planned to do it she planned a girls night out to see "The Devil Wears Prada." OK, so I figured I would tell her this Friday. She just told me yesterday that she has book group planned, sheesh... So I'm now trying to get a babysitter for this Saturday night. I tried calling the sitter last night (many times), but the phone was always busy. I'm going to try to call the sitter as soon as I get home.

Hey guys --- I have a question, now that I've completed a half marathon....I know better what I'm capable of. Anyhow, I know I can finish much more quickly than what I estimated when registering for the full and half. Does anyone know if it's possible to change that? :confused3 Or does that not have an impact on which corral etc. that you end up in?

Hey guys! Total drive-by post here. Work's been a little busy, so I haven't had time to keep up with the thread too closely this week. It's only Tuesday and we're on page 6 already! My, my. We are chatty! :)

Dave--good luck telling your wife. I'm sure you know this, but be sure to keep us posted when you tell her. And go easy on yourself with this training. You're right, a day of rest will probably help.

Colleen--I'm with you on the back to back LRs this month. I'm not really looking forward to going long two days in a row. I really don't have too much advice on nutrition, hydration, etc that you probably don't already know. I know I've been trying to get good night's sleep on the night before and the night in between the two runs and that seems to help. Also been trying to carb load on both nights if possible (or at least trying to stay away from two desserts and onion rings :) ). And when I get a chance, I've been trying to take an ice bath after the first LR on Saturday--I don't know if it helps or not (could just be a mental boost), but I seem to wake up Sunday feeling ready to go again.

Looks like everyon'e doing well with training--keep it up! I'll try to read the whole thread and make an "educated" post soon.

Oh, Christa, tell Bree we said congratulations!

Steve

Colleen - I prepare for back-to-back long runs the exact same way that I prepare for just one long run. If anything, I do the first LR slower than normal, and I don't do any speedwork during the back-to-back long runs. Vitamin C is good after long runs...I suppose it's good to have anytime you are training hard. I agree with Steve that you need to re-carb load after the first LR, and ice is nice after any LR. Although after the 1/2 last year for the Goofy I did a warm epson salt bath instead of an ice bath. Didnt have any bad effects on my legs from what I can tell. If you want to try it, I recommend trying it on one of the back-to-back training runs instead of saving it for Goofy. You know the saying...dont try anything new on race day.

Jodistar - bring your proof of time to the expo and ask them if it qualifies you for a better corral placement. Last year I upgraded to corral B (from D I think) for the 1/2 with proof of time.

Dave - Don't underestimate the value of Vitamin R (rest). All those muscles and microtears in your legs need time to heal.

Kevin - yeah, your'e going Goofy with the rest of us. You have time to get up to distance by then. We'll all make sure you finish, even if we have to drag you across that finish line. At your speed though, you will finish before I do!

Judy - :wizard: and :grouphug: for Mist. We're all here for you.

Congrats to Bree!!! We'll be doing the same thing in March. Where has the time gone??

Today was a short run, one of those runs that went great! 4 miles in under 40 minutes. I dont have my garmin in front of me right now, but mile 1 was 8:50 and mile 2 was 9:10. Gotta love the new Asics Kayanos! Great...now I will have to buy a $130 pair of running shoes from now on. Another score for this "free" sport! :rotfl:

I know I missed a lot of you, but stick with the training. You can do it. This is approaching the most difficult part of the training, and the miles will start to add up. Keep a positive outlook, and picture yourself at the start line, running through the castle, and crossing the finish line. We're all in this together!

Cecilia--I hate to tell you, but I laughed out loud reading about your run on Saturday. Do you think someone was telling you to just stay home?? Great job for finishing the run in those "conditions". :teeth:

I have to laugh at myself too. It was a miserable run, I must have run fast to get it over with!! I hope it helps the next time I hit the wall to know that I was able to over come all that. I have only lived in Atlanta for two years and my blood is still too thin for these NORTHERN conditions. I absolutely hate being cold and yet I moved to Narnia.

Jodi - Proof of time at the expo should get you a sticker for a different corral.

I got my registration confirmation from active today. I am officially registered now!! Except that someone told WDW that I would finish in 4 hours! :lmao: That is NOT what I wrote on my registration. And even my 1/2 marathon time won't compute to that. I guess I will just resign myself to getting trampled. WHat was that quote about not counting people as you pass? Does it make a difference if you are counting the people passing you? And can I count that high?

My little sister calls me to tell about this interview with Lance Armstrong after the NYC Marathon. He says it was the hardest thing he has ever done. "Isn't that inspiring?" she says. WHAT?! um NO. The man went through chemo and raced his bike up mountains and is in incredible shape. IT scares the heck out of me is what it does!

Sorry another panic attack hit me mid post. Of course I can do this. I am not insane.

Well, I dragged myself out to the gym tonight. Maybe I'll just sweat whatever's wrong with me out. I did 60 minutes on the elliptical, which was about 4.2 miles. My heart rate was 155 (don't know if that's good or not. I can never seem to figure that out :confused3 ).

I followed that with 30 minutes on the exercise bike. Did 8.5 miles. Felt ok afterwards. will see how I feel tomorrow morning.

Does anybody eat the Bare Naked brand of granola? I picked up a bag last weekend in the grocery store. Banana Nut flavored. It is very good. says it's all natural. I'm always looking for something to snack on after my workouts. Something like this is much better than the chocolate donuts :p
It was expensive, though. $5 a bag.

Terri

Kevin - I'll sending winning :wizard: . Then maybe you can sleep durign road trips? :confused3 Then again, mayeb after teh october snow, I shoudl just keep my dust to myself. ;)

Cam - You need Heather's video Ipod! Way cool!

Dave - My feet fell asleep on the eliptical too. I just assumed I was diong something wrong. My shoes are great to run in, but not for that. I think it's just how I out more pressure on teh front of my fefet on the E, but hit on teh heel for running.

Sunny - :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Kristi - Congrats on teh tag!!

OK, I missed many, but must get going. Seminar at 8. Must shower, pack, check out, remember where I parked rental, load car and get breakfast by then. I'm hpoing to wake up early adn work out, but I have a looong day tomorrow (land at 10:45 pm and have to be at work for an 11 to 12-hour day on Thursday. Joy.), so I'm not settign the alarm. Then again, I ran Sat, ran SUn, eliptical Mondday adn about 8 hours of mall walking in that time. ;)

I'm leaving Heather's fair city tomorrow. WHile I'm sad to go, Scott will be glad. After day 1 of mall sticker shock, I did soem serious damage teh next 2 visits. :rolleyes1 This girl needs to get out of teh big City before dh kills her!

P.S.

Teri - After marathon weekend, you'll know many WISHers IRL too. It's great to have friends all over the place!

Hi Team,

I finally received the race packet and added my number to the Marathon number thread......I was so happy to finally see the packet on my kitchen table when I got home last night (I'm sure you all understand).

I did my 7 miles last night but will probably take the next couple of days.....I think I may have over done it going from doing almost nothing for two weeks and then jumping in with both feet. My knee is a little sore but with rest I should be fine. :teeth: I've also been icing.

Here's the breakdown of the run:
1.) 10.54 min/mile with incline of 1.0
2.) 10.50 min/mile with incline of 1.5 - 1.0
3.) 14.54 min/mile with incline of .5
4.) 10.00 min/mile with incline of 1.5 - 1.0 - .5
5.) 10.50 min/mile with incline of 1.0
6.) 14.54 min/mile with incline of 1.0
7.) 12.00 min/mile with incline of .5

Thank you Paul and Cecilia for the quick response about my question on coral placement - :woohoo: I will have to remember to bring a printout from the Hartford Half.

BTW- Cecilia congratulations on the great fundrasing.....I wish I had done that well I tried but didn't do well with the fundrasing for TNT (made $750 for them though). So I'm out of TNT but at least I did some good :teeth: .

Okay everyone, I have to get ready for work.....Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I decided to heed the advice of my team members and take a rest day today instead of heading to the gym and getting on the treadmill at 6am. I went to bed last night to read at 9:00pm, and was asleep by 9:15pm. I slept until 6am this morning. It felt good...

I forgot to update everyone about my shoes. I ended up taking my Saucony Grid Trigon 3s back to Fleet Feet. They just did not feel comfortable, and if these are the shoes that I'm going to have for the marathon I really want something that fits well. I ended up getting another pair of the New Balance 1060s that I'm currently wearing. I didn't want them initially because they gave me blisters in the beginning, but I haven't had blisters for a while. When I put them on in the store, they felt really comfortable. It felt like my shoe. So there you go, I think I have my shoes for the marathon.

Just a quick post and hopefully I can catch up tonight.

I went out and did a little over 4 miles last night with a 10:18 overall pace. I was tired by the end but felt good throughout.

Terri -- I tried a sample of the granola and it was pretty good but I don't think I could eat too much of it though.

Judy -- :wizard: :grouphug: for Mist. Hopefully the abuse part of the trial goes better for you.

Bill

good morning, ok i'm feeling a bit like a fish out of water here -- are you all doing the full or Goofy? anyone 'only' doing the 1/2?? the mileage recorded here is AWESOME! you all :rockband:

Happy Anniversary Jenn & Kristi

.
Last night I did 8 miles on the TM in 1:36 (12:00) at .5% grade. Not too much pain today. I think there is a big difference in pain accummulation on the road versus the TM. I wonder if they'd stick a TM out on the course for me :rotfl2:

MelR-- I only have one word for you: MUSIC
2celectricguitar.gif
Last year I ran over 1,300 miles almost entirely solo. There's no way I could have done it without music. There's a cool online radio station called http://pandora.com where you can put in a band or artist you like and it will generate a list of songs of similar music for you. It's just online, but it might help build up a list that you could then go to iTunes or such and create a playlist. GOod luck! You could always go to the gym and harass the runners on the TMs next to you... I know you are capable of such things ;) Hey, we're both Cingular-- we could chat on the phone during an LR? I'm not sure I'm capable of multi-tasking like that, though :rotfl:

ONLY? Did you say ONLY? ONLY walking 13.2 miles?!!!

Don't say "only" - You are doing 100% more than several million people.
Don't say "only" - It is awesome that you set a goal for yourself and are folowing through!

I train with TNT and we have a large group of people training to run/walk half the Atlanta Marathon on Thanksgiving Day. When we first started out I caught myself thinking they were "only" the half marathon people (and walkers to boot! gasp). Then I got to know them. I got to see the excitement on their faces the first time they ran/walked 4 miles, then 6, then 8, and then 10. I got to watch their faces slim down as they dropped pounds. I got to see that they were pushing themselves to their absolute limit just like I was. Now adays, I think they are saner than I am. They are definately smarter! But they are not "only" anything.

Neither are you.

Yeah, what she said! "ONLY" nothing! And I say this from personal experience. I only know one person in IRL besides DH who has done a 1/2 marathon or more. This group has become my universe. And the people here who do train and do a 1/2 marathon or who support those of us who do have a LOT of respect for what it takes to pull that off. I can tell you that training for and showing up at the start line for the 2006 WDW 1/2 was the HUGEST undertaking of my life. It was the first time I ever set out to do something that I truly thought I might not be able to pull off. Nothing compared to the enormity of the task -- not achieving two B.A's in 4 years, not passing 3 Bar exams . . . NOTHING compared to the sense of achievement I felt when I crossed the FINISH line on 1/7/06.

Do not underestimate the enormity of what you are doing. As John Bingham says, "You must respect the miles" and as I say, you must respect yourself for completing those miles, whether you run, walk, or drag yourself to the finish.

Okay, off my soapbox now. :rolleyes1 Sorry. I get a little passionate, especially when someone says to me "oh, you WALKED it. Oh, I could do that." Yeah? Well, congratulations. Maybe I'll see you out there. Then again, maybe not. Aren't most of those people DNS?

Oh, and one last thing to Judy and Kelley and Brenda and all our WISH 1/2ers -- I absolutely CANNOT WAIT to cheer you across the FINISH line. I bet you I'll be crying harder than you guys! :grouphug:

Greetings all. :)

Today is a scheduled rest day for me, so I slept until 6:00am. Yay! :teeth:

I had my MRI on my knee yesterday and they gave me the films but I guess now I have to call Dr Hunka-Hunka-Burning Love and make an appt. I also went to the chiropractor for the first time in months since my neck was killing me, no doubt from work-related stress. When she adjusted me my neck made a rather loud noise and even she was shocked. But immediately after the adjustment my headache was gone and my neck felt like new! Today I feel fine, but it's early yet. So far no one has annoyed me.

Kristi - Funny tag! :lmao: Congratulations! Hey, where in WDW did you get married?

Dave - Maybe you should try taking her out to breakfast. :confused3 She seems to have a very active social life. I can't even keep up with her activities!

Steve - Did you get new running shoes? Kayanos?? :teeth:

Paul - Thank you for the encouragement. I'm already telling Charlie that we are saying yes to only those absolutely necessary social obligations. I can't be going to holiday parties on Friday nights and doing LRs on Saturday morning. Sorry but this year my priorities are a little different. I'm focused and serious and fully intend to stay on my training schedule. Thankfully he's totally on-board with this. I am keeping a positive outlook as best I can, despite the momentary lapses into terror and panic and self-doubt. I kick those to the curb! :woohoo:

ohMom - I am doing the Half. Plenty of us are. Many first timers too! But we aren't "ONLY" doing the Half. We are doing THE Half! Ohh...I see many people before me have already straightened you out on that one. Alrighty then. :goodvibes

Cam - Oh Cam! I LOVED that soapbox speech! :cheer2: It's AMA-ZING coming from you. You, who has accomplished so much in your life. That makes it all the more precious. I love that soapbox speech. :woohoo: I think I will print it out and tape it somewhere. Like on the TM!
