Wk of Nov 5--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Rest day for me... whoo hooo for rest days!

I am DOING the half also. And it will never be just ONLY because I have already ran farther distances than I have previously walked. When I ran my first 5 mile long run, a guy in my office said he could do that (he smokes like a pack a day also)... so I gave him the look. Then he says, well if I train enough I could. He quickly dropped the conversation when he realized that 5 miles is a long distance.

Work has been totally nuts for me, so I haven't had much time to "play" on here. I want to wish everyone good luck on their runs and congrats to all the accomplishments this week!

Don't worry about Molly (ohMom). She knows first-hand that the half marathon is not just a 1/2 but THE half. She finished the WDW 1/2 marathon in Jan. 2005 as part of the WISH team. :cheer2:

I did 3.72 miles on the TM yesterday and 44 minutes on the elliptical today (would have gotten off sooner but was watching an episode of Grey's Anatomy on my video ipod and had to catch the end ;) ) My lower legs killed me yesterday and last night. It was not my shins and not my calf muscles, but something on the sides of the lower legs that made me wince with pain when I walked. It felt like someone was jabbing hundreds of little pins into my legs. Crazy thing is the elliptical made my legs feel better and the pain is gone now. :confused3

All this talk of new shoes makes me want some. Of course I don't need any, but what does need have to do with it?! I am in training. (Think DH will buy that line? )

Morning everyone!!

Cecilia-- I had to LOL at your comment about Lance. Seriously!

Carrie-- :rotfl: "Maybe I should keep my dust to myself" :rotfl:

ohMom-- "ONLY" nothin'. 13.1 miles is still a HUGE accomplishment!!

So, being good and back on the horse, I did my 4 miles yesterday. 2.5 of them on the indoor track and then 1.5 on the treadmill. I would have gone the full 4 on the track if it were not for these "ladies" who insisted on walking four abreast on a four lane track. (Why Why Why do people do this?!?) Anyhow, I have no idea about time and pacing, but I got at least the four miles in. Tonight will be Spinning class as crosstraining, followed by 8 miles tomorrow morning. (I'm trying to get psyched about a back to back 8/17 this weekend..... well, I have three days to get there...)

Oh, and I did something crazy... check out my sig.....

Kevin :earsboy:

I finally got Charlie to download the pictures off the digital camera. So....for your viewing pleasure....

This has nothing to do with the race but Charlie on the ATV he "borrowed". Uh hu. And when is it going back, honey??

Good morning Wish Team! Well, actually afternoon, I have been so busy at work. Our fiscal year ends on November 30th so we're boxing up files for 2005 to make room for 2007 which starts for us on December 1st. I have already boxed up 20 boxes and have probably another 30-40 to go. Good thing it's a rest day!!! ;) Yesterday I went to the Community Center for cross training, I did the bike for 30 minutes and then I lifted 3 sets of 10 on the leg press. I have good news about both, first the bike: I normally bike around 6.60 miles in 30 minutes keeping the resistance at 0 and my rpm's 85-90. Well yesterday I biked 7.1 miles in 30 minutes, kept the resistance at 2 and my rpm's between 95-100. :woohoo: :woohoo: My good news for the leg press: I normally put on 50lbs, the bar is 25 so I was leg pressing 75lbs, yesterday I put on 75lbs, the bar is still 25 so I lifted 95lbs. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: I can definitely tell that my legs are getting stronger. :teeth:

Judy--Great pictures!! I love your big smile as you are coming across the finish line. And don't take this the wrong way, but Charlie's legs are defined!! WOW!!!

Dave--I'm glad you got some much needed rest!! I think you really needed it. Were you able to get a baby sitter for the weekend?

Cam--I so, so, so agree with everything you just said. People who try to lessen our accomplishments and all the extremely hard work we do makes me furious. :furious: :furious: :furious: I got in a huge fight with my jerk-in-law, uh I mean brother-in-law last December when he tried to say that anyone can do a half marathon and it was no big deal and especially for me, since I run/walk. It was not pretty. But in the end it all worked out, Stephen and his cousin went for a 8 mile run, so Anthony (the jerk) went with them, I don't think he even made it 2 miles before he walked back to the car to wait for everyone else. Yes, I did gloat a little when I came up to the car after I finished 6 miles. :rolleyes1

I would love to chat some more, but I'm so busy. I'll try to come back later and talk some more.

Oh Krista, I'll have to tell him that! He'll be so flattered! He attributes his thigh strength to growing up with a trampoline. He used to spend hours on it!

Ever see The Golden Girls, where Blanche says "And God gave man thighs that would crack a walnut." Yup, my husbands actually got 'em! :teeth:

Great job on your x-training Krista. Yup, it really does sound like you are getting stronger. Nope, I was not able to get a babysitter yet for this weekend. I called our regular sitter and got through yesterday, but she's not available on Saturday. Aaaaargh. It's always soooo hard to find a sitter. I brought a couple of other numbers in to work with me, and I'm going to try to call another person when they get home from school. I really do want to break the news. I wanted to do it before I have my 16 miler this weekend.

Krista and Judy - I was thinking the same things about his legs. Judy, you tell him we are looking at his legs!!!! :rotfl2: My DH is the same, but instead of calling his defined, I call him thunder thighs. He has some mighty strong legs.

Speaking of my DH, the other day he told me he should try to run so he could join me in my races. I asked him if he was serious, or jealous. Turns out he he JEALOUS!!!! HA HA HA!!!! I know he can't run long distances because of cartledge problems in his knee that need repairing. I think he just wants my t-shirts and bling!!!!

Dave - My mom told me she was taking my girls for Saturday so DH and I could celebrate our Anniv. It's too bad you can't get that for your girls. Good luck setting up your date and telling DW. Maybe you will just have to blurt it out to her over dinner!!!

Hello, Team!!
Goodness! I was computerless for four days and it has taken me hours to catch up!!
Sunny, I LOVED your mom's idea of hanging all of your finisher medals around the living room!! :thumbsup2 Those are great sayings you have added!! You are so talented. So glad to see your training is going on well, also!!
Angie, as others have told you..WOW!! What a story!! What a first 5K!! My DH makes fun of me because I, also, want to drive the race course. I would like to KNOW what's coming up. He says, "It will be what it will be." You never gave up!! Not after the first hill, the second one...You really were great!! :cheer2:
Pat, Amy, Krista 14 miles!!!! :woohoo:
Cecelia, Oh my goodness!! First you were worried about your solo 12 miles and then to have all of the adventure!!! And you did MORE than 12 miles!!
CJ, FANTASTIC!!..you shaved 20 MINUTES off of you 1/2 mary time!!! Wow!! Awesome job!!
ohMom/Molly, I'm right there with you in the half marathon at a 14:30 pace!
race.gif

Bill, Great job on your 20 miler! Puh-leeeze take care of Lynnda!!
Monte, I'm really thinking that I'm gonna NEED that Mickey medal in 2008! Would love to join you!! :teeth:
Judy, you had an 11:17 mile??!!! You are FLYING!! Thanks for the pictures. Oh, it is soooo beautiful there!! Practice now turning your GARMIN off while looking up and SMILING when you get near the finish line!! Even after hearing John Bingham stress it again at DL, all of my finish line shots were of me turning the GARMIN off!!! I even waited until after I crossed the finish mat!!! :rotfl2: Oh, your comment about the sub 3 hour marathon .. :lmao: I'm going to have to use that..just change it to sub 4hour!! About Mist...when the judge sees the before and after pictures, their story is still going to be believable???!!
Kevin, Yes!! Go, Goofy, Go!!
Cam :grouphug:
CONGRATS, BREE!!!
Dave, What a great accomplishment on your half!! Now, FIND THAT BABYSITTER!! ;)

Got my 3 miles in on the streets of New Orleans last weekend. Always interesting to walk in a new neighborhood. Did manage to average a 14:15 pace! Oh, a story.. One day last week, while running errands, my car refused to start. I could not turn the key in the ignition..really, really weird. Tried all of the stuff like stepping on the brake, making sure the steering wheel was in the right place..etc...nothing. So I'm standing there thinking and I realize that my house was just about 14 miles away. "Hey, I could walk home!" Then the rational side says, "Yeah, in 3 1/2 hours!!!" :rotfl2: I do envy my team mates with your 10 minute miles!!

I did my 3 miles today 13:41 pace :cool1: :woohoo:

Judy-great pics!!!

Anne-good to hear from you. I had wondered where you went :thumbsup2 Great pace too!

Cam- I loved your soapbox speech. I got several "oh, you walked it" comments after January. Like they have every even attempted to do that :confused3

Krista- You go girl!!!!! :cheer2:

Time to go get the kiddos from school. Have a great afternoon.

Oh I could not have picked a better time to finnaly jump in here.

Thanks Anne for that great post. I have been trying to read, just can never seem to get to the post part these days.

I did my 14 miler this past weekend and it was not pretty. Training has not been pretty this time, but I can say I did it! I wondered if I will have the strength to do the rest of the miles as I was struggling to finish those 14. I decided to not think about it and putin the steps as best I can. At least the strain on the ankle when I fell was ok. It's the rest of me that was hurting and Arthur Itis. Whew. It was a beautiful weekend to put in the steps and I hope that the long steps to come will allow for more outdoor steps. Another 22 mile TM event is not the way I want to do it this time around.

Still offering prayers for all that need it.

Bree, Congrats! What a honey you have there.

Thanks to all who have been posting pics. They are fun to see.

Dave, what are the chances of some time for you and DW after the little ones get to sleep? Hoping for you to figure a way to be creative in the announcement time to your DW without the kidlet interupptions. I know you want it to be "perfect." It will be. She needs to be part of your team now. (Sorry, I know the pressure is not what you need right now from here. Please don't take it as such. I know you will do what you need to, just trying to be helpful)
 (I get that way sometimes, and I'm notorious for giving advice and not receiving it as well just as much as the next person.)

So for the pacers...back of the pack here is my desire with maybe a little "built in time" for fun.

Tonight is probably TM again. Staying later at work and dark out when I get home gives me TM time. Sigh.

Let me delurk just for a moment.
1st...my life is crazy and due to confidentuality (SP???) reasons...I cannot even talk about it!
But anywho about the ONLY doing the 1/2! I know we have already beat this into the ground, but now it is my turn to swing...and I am stressed so I have the right to beat it more!
So watch out ranting starting up!I have had people say crap like that to me b/4....mainly (sorry guys) men! I just tell them to come on and run with me...they may get ahead of me the 1st 1/2 mile but then watch out! This was true for my BILs until they ran with me. Now they have respect!
Oh, something else I HATE! When people used to look at me and say "well you don't look like a runner".
Now noone says that, but they do say something just as stupid....
"You need to gain some weight b/c you are unhealthy" :furious: I very nicely ask them if they can run over 8 miles. They normally say no, then I tell them when they can run, swim, or bike 1/2 as far as I can, then they can make stupid comments about my weight! :furious: They don't realize that I am 110 lbs worth of "world of hurt" coming at them!
OK! I am done.
I swam today...will run 12 tomorrow!

Not to detract from the serious discussion going on, but I just wanted to say...

I got a sitter!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:
Saturday night's the night I will break the news. Whoo hooo!!!

You guys are all so impressive! I don't have much to say here because I can't even come close to what you are doing but I do want to say that you keep me motivated to do what I can. I am looking forward t seeing you on Marathon Weekend and cheering you on! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I was hoping to do at least the 5K on Marathon Weekend, but turns out Fri morning is a schedule conflict for us. Looks like Run The Universe will probably be my next race. We did it last year and DH loved it even though it was raining. That shocked me because he HATES getting wet!

Congrats to Bree and her DH on the birth of their son Lucas! He looks like a real cutie!

Judy More :wizard: :wizard: For you and especially for Mist! I can't imagine how anyone could ever even think about making poor Mist go back to that situation! I'd love to come up there and tell that judge a thing or two! OK, I know that probably wouldn't help much. I'll stay home and hope the prayers and PD do the trick!

Dave I'm glad you're telling DW soon! I was afraid she would already have other plans! :earseek:

Dave - I can't wait to hear how the suprise goes!

Judy
- great pics! And I agree about Charlie's legs - wow! More :wizard: for Mist.

I didn't do my scheduled 40 mins. w/r today. It's a very long story, and I won't bore you all with the details. Let's just say that Chad will be stuck in the dog house for a long time. Oh and guess who is at the gym right now putting in his miles, and I couldn't because of him?! If he doesn't break out of his lazy-butt funk pretty soon...actually I have no idea what I am going to do, but it ain't going to be pretty. Happy anniversary to me, huh? (sorry about venting, but I feel better now)

Anyway, Saturday is my off day so I will bump everything down a day and get it all in by week end. I was on such a good roll too. :sad2:

I am off to Weight Watchers, where I will probably be over my weight goal & have to pay. :sad2: I will try to catch up more tomorrow at work.

ok, ok, ok --- you all caught my sloppy wording and i deserved it :rotfl: let me give you a quick intro, I'm Molli and I'm powerwalk 1/2 marathons :thumbsup2 I totally understand completely what venting I brought on -- i have been right there with you! from a smirky 18 y/o SIL who said "what that's no big deal I could walk that" to my DH best friend who said "i could walk for hours and hours no big deal" and i quite frankly shove those remarks out of my memory. ok, well i guess not completely or i wouldn't remember them to tell you! My DH was probably a bit underwhelmed when I announced I'd like to sign up for my first 1/2 marathon, yes the first WISH team in 2005, but i saw a respect grow in him as he watched me put in some long hours in the cold weather on my walking path. He doesn't have the fever, that's ok, I have enough for both of us. The exhiliration of crossing that finish line, and crossing in STRONG, is a feeling i'll never forget. Since then i have completed 2 halves in Columbus, OH. WDW 07 will be my fourth 1/2. now, way i say "only" is because of the awe and tremendous amount of respect I have for anyone who has or is training for a full or even better GOOFY!

ohMom/Molly, I'm right there with you in the half marathon at a 14:30 pace

yea! Maherae! a walking friend! i have been known to strike up conversation with strangers walking about my pace to find a friend for the duration -- it helps so much!

 Lily! you are injured?? pixiedust: pixiedust: to get over this hurdle!

mouseskywalker -- what is the big secret?? a trip to WDW?

ok you all will have to forgive me as i try to learn everyone and keep up!

i just heard about a sign at the Columbus Marathon that read "TOENAILS ARE FOR WIMPS!" :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

:wave2: Hi Everyone!

Well....training has left me exhausted (Dave, I know what you're going thru). I'm an avid night-owl and yet have found myself falling asleep on the couch at 9 pm!!! :confused3 Guess this marathon training is tough business ;). But other than that I am happy to report that my injuries seem to be calming down finally!!! I'm still in PT and will probably remain there until the marathon....my wonderful physical therapists have told me that I need them LOL! And they are probably right. But my body finally seems to be adapting to the rigors of training along with the assistance of the orthotics which correct all my leg disparities that I didn't know about until I started running LOL!

I did my 14 miles on Saturday and it was mostly a pleasant run, aside from the freezing temps. I used the audio-book which really distracted me. It was a steady pace and including restroom breaks, and a mile walk due to some achilles pain, I ran a pace around 11:30 mpm or thereabouts. I forgot my garmin if you can imagine so I'm kind of just trying to figure out based on estimated start and finish times. It was more about putting the steps in and not so focused on pace for a change :goodvibes . I'm learning ;).

As for the rest of the week I got back into Yoga and did a really challenging 1.5 hour class on Tuesday. Mondays 60 minute run was brutally hard but I managed to run just over 6 miles in the time for slightly under 10 mpms. Todays run was beautiful....I did a quick 4 miles in 36:39. Tomorrow is a rest day and boy does my body feel ready for that :teeth: . On Friday I'll head back into yoga for some good stretching. What a relief that we get a break and only have to run 8 miles. :rotfl2: ONLY 8 miles. Who'd have thought I'd ever say that?!?!

Dave: Good luck with your special surprise this weekend!!! :goodvibes Can't wait to hear how it all goes!!!!

Kristi: Sorry you had a rough day :(. Hope things brighten up for you tomorrow!!

Bree: CONGRATS on your new baby Lucas. :grouphug:

Lily: Sorry your 14 mile run was so tough :(. I sure hope things ease up a bit for you. Take care of yourself there!!!!

Krista: Super effort on your 14 mile run!!! I was thinking about you while I was out there running. We were both a bit nervous about the distance but we got it done girl :grouphug: . GREAT JOB! I'm glad we are bothing recovering from our ankle injuries!!

Anne: Wow! Great pace!!! So glad to see you posting here :). Way to keep up with the training while you were away!!!!
