Wk of Mar 4--WISH Walking/Running Club

Had the work out from you-know-where last night. I thought I could do one of the programs on the TM. Rolling hills sounded good. The bulk of it (at least for teh first 15 minutes) was a minute at 4% grade runing at 15 mpm, not too bad. The next minute was 10 mpm at 7% grade. :scared: . It's a miracle that I did not get thrown off the back of the TM! WHen I was counting down teh last 20 seconds of one of the 6 mpm intervals, hoping not to die :crazy2: , I decided to go manual. That was still not easy, but I did my 40 min. I think that's the last time I try one of those little programs! ::yes::
Wow, that is one amazing workout Carrie. You're awesome for completing it. WTG! I've never tried those programs on the TM, and i don't know if I will after your report.

Thanks for the suggestions about wearing two bras. I'm going to give it a try tonight. I did week 5, day 1 last night, which is 3 five minute running intervals alternated with three minute walking intervals. I had to reduce my pace with each running interval, but I finished! I am seriously thinking about doing the Chicago distance classic because it is advertised as a run/walk 1/2 marathon and I think that I could be ready for it in August.

Anyway, I work at a university and registration season is beginning, so I don't expect to post much for awhile. I'll try to do better about checking in when I can. I always read the other posts and find them so encouraging!

Stephanie - Awesome post for an awesome race! Great Job! I loved the fact that you were applauded by the trainer at your community center as well!:thumbsup2
Mike - I had a similar experience last Spring when I hit a button on my watch thinking it was the Lap/Split button and looking down and seeing 18:32. I stopped and thought "what the"...until I realized I hit the button to go back to time mode and it was in military time (6:32pm). Kind of a REAL buzzkill there for a sec. As for hydration belts, I bought a Nathan Trek that works great...if you plan on just walking. I wore it for the WDW 1/2 and when we started to run a bit, the bottle had a tendancy to pop out. Maybe I'll just keep it for when I go hiking and find something else.
Cecelia - Thats great you went out torun with friends to cheer them on! Along the route for our local race, people have parites in their front yards to cheer on the racers...it's sooo fun to see yard after yard with live bands, tents, people with hoses misting you down....it's a great experience!
Bill - Hope the paint job went well...after I got finished with mine, I decided that the trim needed changing, so I'm going out today to look and see what I like.
Carrie Here's to hoping some warmer weather heads your way...here in eastern Iowa it's forecasted to get up to the mid to upper 40's later this week. If so, it may be a very nice 5K for me next Saturday!
Sunny - I'm glad to hear the Neurontin is working! Great job on the hill work and getting outside even though the conditions are very less than favorable (so far away from favorable that you need a new map to find favorable).
TexAng - I found a small camer bad that had a belt loop sewn on the back at a local dollar store. It is made by Targus and they make bigger camera bags as well. The loop was big enough that I was able to slide it on to my fanny pack and the bag was just the right size for my Sony W-50 digital camera. Then I can slide it off when I don't want to take a camera with.
Martha - That walking tour sounds like fun, and very delicious! Good to hear you had a great time!
Angie - Glad to hear your knee pain is gone (hopefully for good).
Krista - Hopefully your IT band stays pain free from here on out. Thumbs up for keeping at it where most people would just throw in the towel and quit!:thumbsup2
Cam - Good job with the XT..100 crunches is still 100 crunches whether its right in a row or not, its still a GREAT job!:thumbsup2 I picked up a book at the library last week (will get to read it better next couple of days as I've just had time to skim it until today) called "Core Performance Essentials". It focuses on working on your core and it seems pretty decent.
Jen - Hopefully things get sorted out for you with your training. Good to hear your foot is better, here's to more pain free sessions!
Heather - Great Pics! Loved the fact that you wore your WDW Marathon shirt for your 5K. I think I'll wear my WDW 1/2 for mine next week!
Steve - Good to hear your first post op visit went well. Hopefully the doc was able to get most of that "mess" taken care off.
Jim - Your post about running while DD was at gymnastics is exactly the reason why I want a Garmin. I work an hour away in Iowa City, Iowa and there are a lot of walkways from, around, and near the hospita. When it gets warmer, I could just slap on my Garmin and go running and keeptrak of my time/pace/disctance with my Garmin on my was to my car (yes I have to park about 1.5 miles way and bus it in to work) while taking the scenic route. I will still use my TM from time to time, but I much prefer to be outside.
Bekah - CONGRATULATIONS! I'll bet you house is brimming full of excitement!
Dave - Awesome Pic! Good times...good times! Can't wait to go back (no until 2009, but planning on going :goofy: then).

Well, today is going to be a XT day, just have some things around the house I want to get to first, then I plan on 25min stationary cycle, then 2 sets of light circuit work on our home gym.

Happy Training All!

Bill--Did you pass with flying colors??? :artist: Does the baby's room have a theme?

I can answer that... it looks BEAUTIFUL!!! :thumbsup2 DH needs to check it in the sunlight when he gets home, but I think it looks great! :goodvibes He did Billy's room in blue (with Disney/Pixar Cars theme), and it looked perfect with two coats. Who knew yellow would be so much harder??? Thanks everyone for asking! ;)

As for the nursery theme - it is Pooh and friends. We have a border with all the characters playing outside by a river that will go around the top of the room, and the bedding is "Pooh ABC and 123" - yellow and light blue. :cloud9: I think it is all coming together - yea! Now, if we can just make a final decision on a name for the little guy... :rolleyes1

Bekah - Congratulations!!!! How wonderful!!!

Stephanie - Awesome job on your first marathon!!! :cool1:

Great job everyone on the training runs and the races!!! :cool1: I love all the race reports! It was great to see Mel, Jeff, Chester, and Tracey last weekend! Sarasota was fun! ;)

Well - Billy is calling... I'll check in with you all later! :wave2:

Quick drive-by, but I just had to share with y'all. DH and I signed up for our first 5K a couple weeks ago, and I was so excited about it that I told a couple of my coworkers about it (I've got my own little cheering squad here at work - we're a pretty tightly knit group since we're a small office).

Well, guess what! One of my coworkers decided she'd come, too, and signed up for it yesterday. And, three others are seriously considering doing it, too! We may have our own little racing team there on race day.

Yay!

Ok, back to work. I'll catch up with y'all later on tonight.

I knew that registration for the Goofy was closed, but I didn't know that the half was closed as well. Wow, I better sign up for the full before that gets filled. Yikes!:scared1:

errr, the DW half registration isn't closed...

http://www.active.com/framed/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1392774

For the DL half, did anyone notice that on the new course map, you run further prior to entering the parks, and LESS inside the parks themselves? Now you go around the convention center, and the route in both CA and DL has been shortened (go straight out of the castle down Main Street and out for example, no Frontierland or New Orleans Square). Bad race organizers bad!

Bekah – congratulations! What absolutely awesome news!!!!

Andrew – WOOHOO!!!!! :woohoo: :thumbsup2 :yay: :cheer2: I am SOOO happy for you! BTW, that book sounds great!

Jim – congrats on using that time so well. I fear I might have taken along a book and a snack!

Carrie – I am so glad you survived that insane TM workout!

Bill – I am sure the room looks wonderful. Be sure to take pics so you can brag to your child about all the work you did to prepare a perfect space for the homecoming.

Lynnda – so nice to see you here! I hope you are feeling great! :goodvibes:

Vic – great time – and that was WITH an incline? WOW!!!

Stephanie – LOVE the new picture! :)

Oh, man, I almost had a heart attack when monte posted that the WDW half was full. Thank God that is not the case as I know one of our WISHers in particular who has not yet mailed her registration. Think I’ll go send a reminder PM anyway! :cool1:

UGH, Matt! I thought last year's course was bad and included way too little park mileage. Glad I didn't have my heart set on running that this year.

Went to the gym last night for 30 quick minutes on the TM – really just needed an excuse to test-drive my new WISH-green shuffle (my old one got killed in a crushing accident during the full :rotfl: ). 2.27 miles in 30 minutes which is a tad faster than the 2.22 the night before. That puts me at .27 miles ahead of the Minnie sweepers after 2 miles. Looking for as much cushion as possible because it could be wicked hot that day. Then survived day 2 of the 100 crunch challenge and also did 40 pushups. Is it okay to do running (not LR) and other stuff in the same day? My midriff hurts but nothing else does.

Well, I had a GREAT workout today!! I only did 2 miles, which is what was scheduled in my Hal Higdon plan for week 5. So, I decided to push it a bit because I was feeling good today. So I ended up finishing my 2 miles in 16:02, with an average pace of 7:56....my second mile I finished in 7:37!!!!!!!  That is a PR for me, and probably the fastest I have finished a mile since high school!!! I have no intentions to ever try to run a long distance at that pace, but it felt great today!

Steve-Glad to hear the doctor's visit went well! Late april for running again...that is AWESOME!! Before you know it it will be here!!
Bekah--Congratulations!!!
Andrew-WTG on the 5k training run!
Optimator Mike--I would love to see you running the marathon course with either of those methods...I would probably be laughing too hard to run!! :rotfl2:
Jim--sounds like you have been a busy man the last couple of days...glad to hear you were able to still get some training in. I really need to get a Garmin, for situations just like you were in!
Dave--you are right there, before you know it you will be down around 9mpm....keep up the good work!
Maggie--sorry to hear things haven't been too smooth for you. That is great that you aren't using elevators, I try to always use the stairs when I can...that is good exercise!

Ok, time to eat dinner, I will catch up on the rest of hte posts after dinner!!

Drive by as I need to get to my weight watchers meeting...

I did my 5 miles today in 59:35. I am pretty sure that's a PR, and all miles were under 12:00. The last mile was the best at 11:43! I can't bore you with the splits since Chad & I were running one after the other and he forgot his garmin. So, he's still at the Y with mine.

Tomorrow is xt and then a little 'NH Goo Girls Get-Together' to watch the new DVD!
Aren't you guys are scared that there are other crazies out there like me? :rotfl2:

Heart attack here too! Thanks to Matt for keeping me from bursting into tears! Guess it's time to commit...

I'm NOT having a good week. After my awesome LR on Saturday, I went to Fleet Feet and bought new shoes, and I haven't run at all since. I just can't get motivated. I set the clock in the AM, then turn it off. I come home at night thinking I'll go out, then collapse on the couch. Tonight I did manage a whopping 15 minute walk with the dog, and that about wiped me out. I don't know if I've overdone it and just need a break, or something else is dragging me down. I have a 5K next weekend, so I think I really need a few miles on my legs between now and then. I did look at a new TM on Saturday, and today DH finally agreed that I should go buy it, so maybe if I bring a new toy into the house that will motivate me?

Bekah - CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Jackie

I'm back in training mode! 30 min on the TM at a 13:09 pace...just what I was doing prior to the half. I did add a 1% incline thanks to SilverSteve's recommendations...I couldn't run on the incline when my foot was bad because it seemed to put too much pressure on my heel. Now...just fine. Race photos are up...I think taking photos while someone is running is not necessarily helpful. Some of mine look like I'm in pain ;)

I just ordered 3 running books from amazon. Chi Running, The Lore of Running (sounds like a physiology text) and one for intermediate runners that I can't remember right now. I'll let you know how they are.

I did workup prototype B for the running skirt, but not happy with it. Black waistband and shorts with flourescent lime green skirt :thumbsup2 Overall design is okay, but I desperately need to get better fabric. The bathing suit Lycra just kinda makes you look lumpy when it's a skirt

Jen, Melissa...if I can get a line on running fabric, I'll let you guys know. There's other brands besides CoolMax...I just haven't had much time to really get into this. And I need to get my serger back from my mom!

Bill...I didn't realize our race numbers were sequential. Mine was 1164. BTW, I had a patient who also got 13.4 on her Garmin for mileage during the race.

Bekah...congratulations!

Maggie, Meghan...welcome back!

Kristi...great pace!

OptiMike...have you ever considered designing your own line of running gear? ;)

Laurie...fabulous pace! How do you like the Higdon plan?

Cam...I had that same heart attack...Jeff and Kaley haven't registered yet.

Carrie...great workout! I've never survived one of those programmed ones on the TM.

Krista...great shoes! Is it inappropriate to wear leopard shoes while doing the Pig?

Stephanie...when are you planning to be here in Sarasota? Maybe a mini WISH meet is in order!

Speaking of shoes, I'm trying out some new ones. Mizuno Wave Rider 9. I really like the Mizuno brand...they seem to be built kinda narrow for my freakishly skinny feet. I think I might need a half size bigger though with the orthotics on board.

Good training everyone!

Good evening everyone!

Cross training day today. Lower body.

Leg extensions and hamstring curls - 3 x 12 superset
Bodyweight squats 2 x 20
Calf raises 3 x 12

Felt good to get out there again and push/pull some iron.

Y'all take care.

Mel--I'll be at the Daquiri Deck in Siesta Key exactly a month from today!!:cool1: We're staying at Jamaica Royale from April 7-11th. DH and I were trying to figure out a LR route while there--gotta keep up with the Minnie training!

Chad bought the Chi Running book from Danny (and had it autographed) at the DL Expo.
Did he ever read it? :rotfl: Umm, no.

My Mom has the book now and she told me she is trying to do the chi running thing and likes it so far.
I'll have to ask her more about it.

Mel - do keep us updated on you reading!

I have quite a few running books around here that neither of us has touched. We grabbed them from our tv stations when they would be given as promotional things for the Boston Marathon. I think it's the one time I've gotten anything for working in tv. It probably has to do with no one else at our stations that does marathons! I guess I should read them sometime, huh? ;)

Vic – great time – and that was WITH an incline? WOW!!!

I had to wait until I got home to check something on my TM. For some reason the incline stops at 1.5%. So at some point along the way I set it at 2% and left it there (I've had it so long I can't remember when). However, it doesn't help much when I get outside. Guess I'm supposed to be an outside runner. :)

Hi folks, just got back from my short trip down to Texas. I haven't had a chance to catch up on the posts yet. I did manage to keep up with my training while I was away though.

I ran 2.5 mi on Saturday at an 11:58 min/mi pace. Then ran 3 mi on Monday at an 11:54 min/mi pace. I broke a 12 min/mi pace!!!

TxAng - Monday I was running up at Town Lake - it was absolutely gorgeous out. You'll definitely have to go check it out sometime.

While I was gone the weather warmed up in Calgary and most of the snow is now gone. I'm looking forward to my run tomorrow. Oh - and I got to try out my Garmin this weekend for the first time. I love it!

Training Update:
Monday night we did 2.2 miles in 31:32 (R1/W2 intervals).
Tonight we did 2.9 miles in 41:58 (R1/W2 intervals).
Still getting used to the whole running outside thing. It’s WAY more fun than the TM!

Cam – Even breaking them up and varying them, 100 crunches in a day is really impressive!

Carrie – Where did you find a refurbed camera? That’s a great idea! WTG on that tough TM workout. I’ve never been brave enough to even think about trying one!

Stephanie – Love your new siggie photo!

Laurie – Congrats on the great workout!

Bekah – Congratulations!! How exciting!

Andrew – Congrats on the TM 5K. Great job!

Matt – Are you doing the DL Half?

Leana – Glad you’re back home safely! Did you have a fun trip? Yes, DH and I were just talking about going out to Town Lake one of these days. Maybe we’ll get a chance this weekend. The weather's been just perfect for running outside.

Also, a question. How do you tell apart your new shoes from your old shoes? Like when you get new ones to rotate, do you mark in them or do something different in them, if they are the same type as your old shoes? Where's a good place to mark in them that won't wear or be rubbed off?

Less to do with telling them apart, but knowing when to replace them - I keep track of my runs with nikerunning.com. It allows me to keep shoe profiles and logs the mileage of my shoes as I go. This way I'll get updates on when my shoes are about ready to retire!

Mel--I'll be at the Daquiri Deck in Siesta Key exactly a month from today!!:cool1: We're staying at Jamaica Royale from April 7-11th. DH and I were trying to figure out a LR route while there--gotta keep up with the Minnie training!

We should do a non-training WISH meet, unless drinking daquari's counts as training. :rotfl: If you drive up to Bradenton we have a great long run route that does out toward the beach :goodvibes

Dave - Yes the 4 - inch heels worked well at pump class.:rotfl2:

Seriously - Training Report

FINALLY MADE IT TO PUMP CLASS!!! And then ran 5 at a 9 min pace.!!:woohoo: Knee was actually a little sore :headache: but I iced it and it's fine.

Hope everyone is having a good week.
