Wk of Mar 4--WISH Walking/Running Club

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I did 3 miles on the TM yesterday at 9:31 mpm pace (6.3 mph). I was actually feeling pretty run down. DD9 princess: was home from school fighting off strep throat, and I wasn't feeling 100% myself. Our gym has a 30 min limit on TMs, so to get my 5 miles in I have to switch TMs after 3 miles. At the end of 30 min, all the other TMs were full and I just decided to stretch and go home.

A quick post before work.

It seems that the room painting passed got the inspectors approval so now the fun of trying to get everything decorated and moved.

Bekah - Congratulations!!! I think this is now the 4th WISH baby. I guess people had better start watching out. :rotfl:

Kristi - We now have enough paint for a 4th and probably a 5th coat but since it seems to be good now, I don't want to risk anything. Congrats on getting a PR with your run.

Stephanie - My brief experience as a painter is now over so I am going to have to decline your wonderful offer of only doing 2 coats for your kitchen. :lmao:

Jim - Good luck taking care of everyone. It sounds as if you are being kept busy with it. I think I do a modification of Galloway's new plan so maybe he is copying me. :lmao:

Dave - Sorry to hear about your past couple of workouts. I am impressed that you made the effort when you aren't feeling the best. It is so easy to just relax.

Andrew - Hush about the trim. I don't want someone here to get any more ideas. :rotfl: The borders are going to be enough of a problem.

TxAng - Great job on recruiting new runners. I keep trying out here and while people start out thinking they could do it, they usually don't stick with it.

Matt - I hadn't seen that yet, but I wonder if they got complaints that the area was too congested for people. I thought I remembered it was a little more squished around there.

Cam - Great job on the run. Since you improved your time with a new shuffle, from an engineering standpoint with a sample set of 1, each time you get a new shuffle, you can better your time. Get enough new ones and you will be up to winning the full marathon. Granted it may be a little costly...:rolleyes1

Laurie - That is a great time. Congrats on having a good workout.

Jackie - I hope your week gets better. Just keep getting out and doing something and things will improve. New toys are always a good motivation for doing things.:rotfl:

Mel - I hadn't realized it either. I guess I got my registration in just before you. I didn't think your pictures looked all that bad. One of mine looked like I was asleep. :)

Vic - Great job on the xt and getting the patio gym cleared off. I think my excuse for that would be there is still too much pollen in the air and I wouldn't want to risk inhaling it.

Angie - Great job on getting to the class and keeping up that pace. I hope your knee gets better soon.

Bill

Hey all... last night I did the track for 35 minutes while DD was in gymnastics. I could have gone longer, but ended up talking with DH. Plus, the run seemed off last night. But I got the steps in. I have no clue on how far I went since this track was 16 laps per mile and I refuse to count them. The other track I run is 12 laps per mile and they give you a clicky thing to keep track.

Cam - have you decided on whether you are doing the 1/2 or full in 2008? I haven't committed yet. I am still torn. I know I can do the 1/2, but not sure I have the gusto for the full. Plus, all that extra training. I barely had time for the 1/2 training some days.

Bill - So glad the painting passed. I really don't like painting. This is why our house still has lots of white rooms. :rotfl2:

Dave - I was there with you on the running yesterday. Thankfully today is a rest day for me.

Mel & Kristi - I have been wanting to check out the Chi Running book. I wonder if my library has it. Hmmmm....

Oh forgot to mention. DH Paul and I are thinking of maybe running the Fools Run at Midnight race on 3/31..well actually 4/1. The race is actually at midnight. Seems a little scarey to me. It is being put on by the same people that did the Rump Roast Run...remember that one!!! We just need to find somewhere to put the kids while we run. I told DH that I would run with him at a slower pace. He said no way, run ahead.... I told him it's too scarey to run alone and we have no clue how many people will be running. :rotfl2:

OK, work is bellering. Have a great day all.

Hey TEAM: OK, please forgive this whiny post, but I think I put my finger on what's wrong with me lately. I think I have a serious case of the "winter blahs". I just can't seem to get excited about anything, everything seems hard, and everything seems negative. It was snowing again today, and I'm just tired of it. I really wish that I could take a vacation or spring break or something, but that's just not going to happen. I gotta keep pluggin' away at things.

Dave - it will be warm soon! It has to be, right? Again, I go back to my "why do we not live in FL" rant. ;)

Jen - 12 or 16 laps = 1 mile? :scared: I thought 7 laps was bad! Also, I know I promised to do the Full with you, if you did it next year. I am not sure I can do it...see below.

Bill - we need pics of this Pooh room once it's done, ok? Zack's room was Lion King (actually, it still is) and I'd love to see how the Pooh room turns out!

So, this morning I get up and all my toes are bothering me today! Esp. one of the pinky toes. Weird.
Little back story (sorry to bore those who know this story):
1. my shoes are perfect
2. Went to podiatrist last summer: he says bones in my foot move way too much, esp. my big toe. So when I walk/run, the weight isn't being carried by the big toe as it should. My second toe takes the brunt of it, and it wasn't made for that.
3. He wanted me to get othortics. But he made me promise to buy OTC ones if I couldn't swing custom. I bought the OTC ones, tried to use them twice and they hurt so bad, I never used them again.

Last year, my toes never bothered me until after the Minnie. And since then it seems to get progressively worse. Meaning, they now bother me after "only" 5 miles like yesterday. :confused3

My only other thought is that my socks are too small. I have had the same running socks since last year. Just recently, they seem a bit snug - I put them on and feel as though I need to pull on the toe of the sock to give me more wiggle room. I hate to buy new socks and get blisters from them being too big and sliding around. Do socks shrink?

So, long story, but I really don't think my toes can handle a Full marathon. Sorry Jen! I really wanted to do one, just to say I have done one. I am just beginning to wonder whether I am going to be able to even keep doing Half marathons at this rate. :sad2: I think it may be time to visit with the pod. again.

So, the plan for now is to do my next half as fast as I can - I want to break 3 hours so bad. And my ultimate goal is breaking 2:45. (what can I say? Mel inspires me!) Then I have the Minnie. I am thinking I should really take a break from long distance training after that. Give the toes a chance to recouperate or something. or maybe I need to just walk - no running intervals. :confused3

eta: maybe I should also re-visit the OTC orthotics. Try to break them in little by little around the house or something. Rather than just popping them in my running shoes and going 1-2 miles in them and dying!

Morning all!!

Bekah-- Congratulations!!! That's so wonderful!!

Just a quick drive-by from me this morning... yesterday I got completely beat up by my trainer--- we've started this new program that integrates weightlifting with interval cardio and so far so good. Yesterday he decides that after all that, he wanted me to do some plyo with him as part of my cardio... :yay: :faint: I must have gone a little crazy afterwards, because I finished on the treadmill for 20 minutes (4/1 intervals, 9:30 pace) and during the last two minutes I pushed it to 9.4 MPH (6:something per mile?) on the TM just to see if I could do it. Well, turns out I can run that fast for EXACTLY two minutes. Any longer and we would have had "issues" of one form or another. It looks like I might actually get outside to run this weekend, which will be a nice change.

Must dash... Happy training!
Kevin :earsboy:

Bill - Glad to hear the room passed inspection. When mama's happy, the world is happy. :thumbsup2 As far as the pollen goes, I still have to clean the patio. That's normally a springtime project with the pressure washer. I think I'll let it warmup just a bit more before tackling that.

All - Great job on your training.

New team members - Welcome!

Hmmm...I went into the WDW marathon site and I thought that I had read that both the Goofy & 1/2 was closed???Maybe I was looking at 2007???Anyway, thanks Matt.;)

errr, the DW half registration isn't closed...

http://www.active.com/framed/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1392774

For the DL half, did anyone notice that on the new course map, you run further prior to entering the parks, and LESS inside the parks themselves? Now you go around the convention center, and the route in both CA and DL has been shortened (go straight out of the castle down Main Street and out for example, no Frontierland or New Orleans Square). Bad race organizers bad!

Yippee! I did 7.5 miles today, my longest ever! Interesting, the treadmill stops @ 100 minutes! The mileage didn't clear, it just stopped. It took me a few minutes longer to finish! I'm thrilled!

Kristi, I've never been to the podiatrist, but my second toe seems to bear the brunt, or else it hits the top of my shoes! I got fitted for shoes to see if it would help, and it has some, but it looks like I'm going to lose both second toenails, again! And I'm a walker!

Cam - have you decided on whether you are doing the 1/2 or full in 2008? I haven't committed yet. I am still torn. I know I can do the 1/2, but not sure I have the gusto for the full. Plus, all that extra training. I barely had time for the 1/2 training some days.

Jen -- I sent in my registration yesterday for the full. I had been waiting until my 15th anniversary marathon weekend champion chip arrived so I could put the chip number on my application. Then I just kept putting it off until I saw the posts yesterday about races filling up. That was enough to scare me off my duff, before I read Matt's correcting post, of course! :lmao: I didn't want to miss out on the special Mickey medal, even though my plan had originally been to train to run the entire 1/2 in 2008. That will be my plan for 2009, unless I perhaps get ambitious enough next year to train to run the full. I certainly don't feel that I have "done" the full the way I wanted to, so having that to look forward to just 9 months should be enough to keep my training on track.

Dave -- sorry you have the winter blahs. I know just what that is like. Keep the faith though, buddy! Spring IS coming!

No training for me last night -- just 100 crunches and worked my way up to 50 push-ups. On the balance ball, of course. Hoping to get in 30 minutes on the TM tonight between dropping DS off at boy scouts and picking him up. Jenn will be home tomorrow night and I have to drive Andy to and from a cotillion, so I'm not sure I'll make it to the gym. Looking at another TM LR this Saturday in the wee hours of the morning, since nearly every moment of the weekend is booked with commitments to friends.

Howard misses you guys. He has a mandatory case competition for his MBA program this Saturday :scared: and then I'll urge him to take a much-needed break to DIS a bit.

DAve - I am so with you on teh winter blahs. It's been a little better with some glimpses of suntill not great. I don't htink hating my job helps either. Let's hope teh weather gets better soon! :wizard: (Hmmm...solo confirmed that, perhaps, I shoul dkeep my dust to myself regarding weather. Maybe I should take that back. ;) )

TXAng - I'm pretty sure that I just searched online for teh camera. You may want to try overstock.com. I'll see if I have the info on who the camera came from at home.

Bill - COngrats on passing inspection!

Krista - WTG on those sub 12s!!!

solo - WHer is our 40 degree weather?? Congrats on the great workout!

OK, need to get back to work, but I was going through WISH withdrawal. ;)

CAM!!! Oh that gives me inspiration to also sign up for the Full. Partly because I want that medal, but also just to prove to myself that I can do it. If you do it and Mel does it, then I have to find a way to do it. I still haven't committed to it just because I need to finalize my convention that overlaps it.

Kristi - No Worries. I would LOVE to run with you and Mel... AND CAM! But if it's not to be, at least you will still be there with Chad. Right??? Get those toes checked out! I get numbness in my toes sometimes, but nothing that stops me... yet.

Dave - I know for sure that a lot of my problems are the winter blues. I deal with it every year. I need to hear the birds chirping and see some grass and flowers!!! :flower3:

Carrie - The predictions for the weekend are looking good... 40's maybe even higher. I may break out of my wimpiness and run outside. We have a lot of snow, but I am sure I can find some sidewalk somewhere. I have this fear of sloshing through the puddles and slipping on some ice! :scared1:

Hello, team mates!

Thanks for the well WISHes from last week. Sad to say, I have my first DNS..siiiggghhhh. When I first started on this board, I was amazed at people signing up for events so far in advance. How do you know what's going to happen by then? Well, my "fear" came to fruition last Friday.

As the song goes, "All my bags are packed; I'm ready to go.." DH and I were just getting ready to put stuff in the car for our trip to Albany, GA when the phone rang. It was my 90 year old mother's nursing home saying she couldn't lift her head up (she was recovering from a GI bug), and they were calling the ambulance to take her to the hospital to have her evaluated. We sortof hoped we would be able to still go to Albany later. She was diagnosed with pneumonia in her right lung and a urinary tract infection. So, she was admitted. I do not leave family alone in the hospital. For the next 6 days, I slept on the couch in the room, woke up every 2 hours to help turn her, and wrote down everything anyone did or said in relation to her care. There were 12 different nurses and 2 doctors, so someone needed to keep track. Even with their records, they don't always read far enough or something. They tried to give her a second shot of something she was only supposed to get one of, and discharge her when she was still having temperature spikes. When I would catch it, they would go back and check the record and say, "Oh, yeah..." Nothing against her care, just I understand the way things get missed. Oh, Sunny..she got Levaquin!!

All I could think of Saturday morning was, "I would be starting the race now. or I would be finished by now. Matt and Cheryl are probably driving by now." Then I thought about the Seaside Half just five miles down the road the next day. Hey, it would be taking same day registration .....maybe I could do it and come back....siiggghhhh.

Now I have a WEEK of postings to catch up on!!! It's a good thing I'm retired...:rotfl2: :goodvibes Anne

Hello, team mates!

Thanks for the well WISHes from last week. Sad to say, I have my first DNS..siiiggghhhh.

:grouphug: Anne that wasn't a DNS that was a LTO (Life Took Over). I'm so sorry your mother went through all of that. I'm so sorry you missed your race. But it's so fortunate that you could be there to watch out for her. Remember, most people don't have adverse reactions to Levaquin. Here's:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: to make sure she's in the "most" catagory.

Sunny

I've been meaning to tell you guys - on my trip down to the States I found the WISH undies at the Under Armour outlet. Somehow I couldn't bring myself to spend almost $17 on skivvies though. For all my Canadian friends though (Kim, I think that is only you!) - they have some nice ones at Mountain Equipment Co-op. I even found WISH green the last time I was there. I also found the lime green Champion tops at Target, but alas, it allowed a little too much "free movement" so no WISH appropriate gear for me.

Bekah - congratulations!!
Anne - I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. There will be other races though, family definitely comes first.
Jen117 - You should totally sign up for the full! After all, this is the year of the special Mickey medal. The bling greatly affects my decision on races, sad to say!
keenercam - How are you liking the balance ball?
westcliffemom - Yay for your 7.5 mi - it is so amazing when you keep running further and further - it definitely inspires and motivates you!
monte - You gave me a heart attack last night when I read you post! I've been telling my mom she doesn't have to sign up for the half just yet, but last night I was worried we missed it.
Kristi1357 - Good luck trying to sort out the pain in your toes. I hear orthotics take a bit of getting used to, so good luck with them. You may want to try wearing them in your regular shoes to get used to them.

2 miles planned for tonight - it is beautiful, sunny and 45 deg out. Thank goodness for the change in weather! I really feel for all of you with the winter blues. I was getting so tired of seeing snow, I think spring is definitely on its way. Hang in there!

Anne - tons of  And Sunny is right, that's not a DNS, ok?

Just dropped in to tell you guys the lastest drama. I think I broke my baby toe. Yet again. Ugh! After I did it, I laid on my bed for 15+ minutes thinking "I have a race in 3 weeks...I have a race in 3 weeks..." I am so bummed right now. Other toe issues aside, I really wanted to break that 3 hours, and maybe, just maybe do a 2:45.:sad2: I only recently got back out of bed, so I'll wait & see how it does while I am up & about with blood flow going to it. This just figures! I am keeping fingers crossed that maybe it's just sprained. It will still mess up my training though.

Dave: hope you and DD feel better! Here's some PD to help chase away the winter blahs. pixiedust:

Bill: happy the inspector was pleased. I actually like to paint, it's kind of a Zen thing with me. DD wonders when we'll stop painting as we just keep painting rooms. I said when it's done, I'll stop painting!

Stacey: congrats on the LR!!!! Doesn't it feel great?

Cam: wish Howard good luck on the case competition for me!!

Anne: sorry to hear about your Mom. How is she doing? Here's a

Monte: still getting snow up your way?

Leana: did you run outside? Can you send some warmer weather our way?

Kristi: OUCH!!! Can you tape it to the other toe?

Today was a session with my PT. She does an excellent job of hurting me! And I always go back for more!! I love working out with her; we solve all the world's problems. But I cannot even hold the hair dryer after one of her sessions!! :crazy2: Tomorrow will be a light cardio day. Sunday will be a LR--60 minutes and it's supposed to be in the 50s!! :woohoo: Let's hope the forecasters got it right!!!

Come on down to Daytona Beach. It's Bike Week!!!!:scared1:

There are things that will bring anyone out of the winter blahs.......coleslaw wresting?
