Colleen - rent the bike!!! If you do though, make sure you can get familiar w/ how to shift it b/4 the race. Another option is to put more street like tires on your mt. bike. It will at least take away some of the resistance from the nobby tires. The rented bike will be faster though. There is just no way you can keep up on your mt. bike. It is made for a different purpose
I don't know anything about the lanes b/c I swam outside. You will enjoy the fact that somehow on the 1000yd swim, i managed to engage someone to talk to me (just a little) That is really pathetic isn't it????
I stunk at transition. I was one of the slowest and i did practice a little. I'm thinking that if you don't clip into the bike (don't if you've never done it b/4) that you should use your running shoes. You can buy quick laces at REI or other sporting places where you basically pull a string to tighten your shoes for the bike/run.
Also, you may tape some gels on your top tube of your bike if you think you will need nutrition during the race. tape them by the "lid" so you can just rip the bottom off and eat. Make sure you have a drink cage on the bike (i'm sure you do)
Krista - I've posted several times w/ the intention to tell you that I'm sorry about your knee!! I hope it gets better quickly. It seems like w/ running, I always have a ache or pain somewhere and it is so hard to tell which ones to rest w/ and which ones to run through. I;m sure rest can't hurt though!!
Dave - that is so wonderful that you are ahead of your learn to run class. What a great accomplishment!!! You've already achieved 2 major things in your training: 1)Starting training and being consistant, 2)being ready for the class!!!!

I'm sidelined today. My cough got worse after kickboxing yesterday, so I don't want to push it and run today. I know I could make it through the run, but I have to learn to make smart choices. I'm a little more relaxed knowing that I hit the 5K distance on Sunday. All I have to do now is build my hill endurance as I found out yesterday the final .25 mile of the race is uphill.
I am so excited that everyone will have their kids and family there! The whole weekend is going to be so inspiring and FUN!
THANK YOU to everyone for your support. I was bummed out after telling my mom, sis and dbil about my plans. Fortunately my DH has been awesome and plans to buy a trail bike so he can ride along with me during my long runs. I thought that was sooo sweet! He would love to train with me but has bad knees to begin with...biking is better for him. But at least I'll have company
The funny thing too is that my sis sent me two articles yesterday about running...she must have felt bad about being negative. I think they are already coming around.
I guess I just shocked them with my plans. LOL!

for your booty.
Way to go! BTW Cam, I think I am planning on the Minnie next year. Or.....maybe the DL Half. I'll have to see how January goes.
I'm glad you were not hurt, but may I just say......OMG you are funny!
for your knees. Let us know how it goes. I'm thrilled for you that you are seeing results!
What happened to that grill thing you had in your signature?
Don't forget to schedule in some Liz-time.
But ignore them and have fun with your DH. Good for him for being supportive.
Hi Kim!! Glad to see you made it over to this thread! I think the idea of jogging the light posts is a great way to build your running!
And as long as you are swimming of your own accord they dont care what stroke you do. I would rent the road bike if you can & also see if you can rent it a little beforehand to practice on it. They ride alot different than a mtn bike. Good luck! (you could come to Nashville & do the tri with me Memorial day, Nashville has a lot of good shopping & eating
)
(that's my mean face)
Unless I am still up at that hour!
today after my DR appt! Turns out she was hiding in the corner of the den. Awesome, though, that her band will be in Spectro. Wish we could be there to see her. Sat is quite possible though.
Great to have you here. You are doing great with the light post to light post runs. I just joined this TEAM a couple of months ago. I started out walking, mixed in a little running, and I started out with the alternating light posts too. Now I'm running (slowly) for 20-30 min straight. This group has been such an inspiration for me, and have really kept me going. I'm so excited to keep the adventure up until the marathon this year.
