Wk of Mar 12--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Cam,
Hang in there... it will get better.

One of the nicer things about my trip with teens to Europe is all of them had worked REALLY hard to earn the money to go... maybe that made them appreciate it a little more. But you are right. There will be other opportunties for her to go when she's ready. We had one girl withdraw during the planning simply because she and her parents felt she wasn't ready, no biggie.

I'll talk football with you Krista. So what do you think of Randel El leaving the Steelers for the Redskins? Yeah, he wasn't our best receiver, but I'll sure miss his touchdown passes.

Cam- I just saw your post. Oh, that is soooo hard, but I do think you and Howard made the correct and best decision. It is so hard being the grownup isn't it? But it will be the best in the long run for your DD. It sounds like you gave her every opportunity, and she did not take advantage of it.

Maggie - How old are your boys? Are they old enough to go to the park with you? Maybe if everyone was involved that might be motivating for you.

Judy[/COLOR]

Unfortunately my boys are only 2 (today) and 4 (in 2 weeks), so they would need supervision. I also have a 15 year old daughter and pay her to watch the boys when she can.

You are right, when they are a little older and can be more involved, scheduling work outs will be easier.

I would get up early, but my boys and I are morning people and we are already up at 5am, so my mornings are out.

Thanks to all for the good wishes, if it weren't for this group I would be back to the couch full time. I did reserve a babysitting spot for tomorrow afternoon for them at the gym so I know tomorrow I will get another workout in.

Howard is adamant that we have to be the parents and we have to follow through and that we did not take anything away from her, she did. I guess, in effect, she surrendered it. It was handed to her on a silver platter and she gave it up.

This is exactly how dh and I parent. We had this same situation when we literally unplugged dd15 from all internet usage due to her irresponsibilty, dishonesty, and reckless behavior. We gave her the tools to keep it and she chose not to use them, just as you did for your dd17. You are doing the right thing!

I just wanted to edit to add that I know taking away the internet is not on the level of a trip to Europe, but that I can understand your feelings.

Sunny, I think you said it best about kids making you realize how deep you can love, and how mad you can get!

big hugs, Maggie

Cam - I just wanted to agree with what the pp's said. You are definately doing the right thing, and it will be worth it in the end. I know it is so hard. :grouphug:

Well, I just got back from the gy. Are you ready for this?! Are you sure? I am so stoked!!! 3 miles 26m40s!!!!!!!

That's an 8:53 min mile!!! I am so excited, and the best part is.... NO PAIN. My calves cramped a little bit, but no where near as bad as my "skonker" on Saturday. Not running 5 days a week has definatley helped. Friday I have a 4 miler, as long as that goes well things should definately start looking up. After that run on Saturday I was seriously starting to think that maybe my legs just couldn't do it. Here's to hoping everything works out and my legs continue to stay healthy!!!

:grouphug: CAM! What a tough day...but you guys definitely did the right thing. You are teaching her such a valuable life lesson...consequences for her actions and choices. Soooo many kids never learn this lesson and end up having trouble in college and later when their parents aren't there to fix things. You are doing her a greater service than she knows...and being a wonderful loving parent. Just try to remember that, even though it must feel so awful right now.

andromedaslove! WOW...great pace

Now for my bad news....I have bronchitis. I'm going on a heavy dose of antibiotics and the doctor told me straight out not to run for a while. I was like....HOW LONG??? He said at least a few days then take it easy. I feel like it's one step forward and three steps back....just reached 3 miles. Now I'm going to get out of shape while I sit around and cough :sad2: . OK...I'm done feeling sorry for myself.

Cam-I wish I could give you a real hug today!!! You need one. It seems the right thing is always the hard thing! Your feelings of sadness and loss are probably directly related to the depth of your love for your daughter. You sure are a good momma though, and I have no doubt that your children know it and benefit from it! Can I call you in a few years for advice??? :teeth:

Krista - It was in fact bible study mocha day! I think I'm going to try to rest most of the remainder of the week too! Next week is spring break so the boy is out of preschool. (that will only leave me w/ bike rides where i can pull him and kayaking) It's probably good that way b/c at the end of the week is the Hogeye marathon (another 26.2 mile training run!) How's the knee? I think having a dog is really hard!!!! I couldn't do both dog and kid - one had to go, so it was huck the yellow lab! He has a great home now though.

I'm going to post a pic of my dirty bike in a little while so I could show everyone how aweful it looks! I gave it a bath when i got home today!

Amy - I hope you don't have bronchitis. I always get it whenever I get a cold. My manager is actually walking around work here coughing and hacking. If I get something from him I will NOT be happy. We are going on our cruise in about three weeks.

Geez, AmyBeth, how did I know that??? :confused3 Ask your MD if you can have a Z-pack. It's two pills the first day then one pill a day for three days. I swear after the first day, I feel 50% better!

You poor thing, I know how miserable you feel...

Sunny--You know I thought having a dog would be easy too, but what do I know?? :rolleyes2 I meant to tell you earlier, I think of you every time I do the leg press. How much weight can you lift? I'm gritting my teeth at 70lbs.

My highest so far is 520 lbs! Don't forget if you are using a free-loading press, the foot bench thingy has weight. The one I use at my gym is 100 lbs unloaded. So when I say 520 lbs, I mean I loaded 420 onto it. The nautilus one with the pins is what it says. I just love maxing that one out at the Y and leaving it for the next person to see :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Amy-- I'm so sorry to hear you have bronchitis. Yuck. :wizard: :wizard: speedy recovery

Cam-- I know you are doing the right thing and I know (oh too well) how hard tough love is to administer. If its any consolation, my DD climbed out the bathroom window at 1:30 AM when she was 13!!!! I called the police and an officer was there when she returned. He gave her this big tough stern talk about "juvie" and such. When he left she very flippantly said, "what's his problem?" I can definitely say I saw red that night. I can also definitely say that wasn't the end of our battles :sad2: But the good news is, your DD is learning these hard lessons while still under your roof. By the time she's ready to be on her own she'll know how to keep herself safe. Don't second guess yourself or fall into the guilt pit. (I've spent many a day and night in that pit!)

I leave early to take DS to jujitsu today. Yeah!

Sunny

Cam- :grouphug: O.k. so are we hugging you to death today? I know that had to be such a touch decision, but I agree with it. She was given the chance & wouldnt take it. So -YOU CANNOT FEEL GUILTY! I know you are, that's how mom's do but it is not your fault.

Amy- :wizard: get better!!!!

andromedaslove- WTG!!! Awesome pace

Yea, where is Heather? I want to hear how her bike riding is going.

I wogged today. Did 40 min & ST. Took it kind of easy since it was my first day back in a while, but still did 14:26 including warm up.

Christa-so when's the next tri?

Jodi: Have you checked out ebay? You might be able to pick up a used garmin forerunner 101 for $75. Not sure if you want to spend that much on a used but thought I'd throw it out there.

Amy,

I was able to order the forerunner - I should get it in about a week's time. I had only looked at the most recent and figured they were all the same price, or around the same price.

Thanks for the tip!

Hi everyone. I have been gone in what seems like forever. Work has kept me so busy and getting in the way of my workouts!!!

So I tried to catch up the best I could. I had to take a couple of days off from running... yesterday I was at work for 12 hours!!!

Tonight I did 25 minutes on the treadmill and jogged for 11 minutes straight. Not a lot for you pros, but for a newbie like me, that was great. I screamed to my husband to come see!! He laughed!

My little one (almost 3 yrs) was kicked out of daycare today for a fever. So I was working from home while she slept. Tomorrow I am in meetings all day, so grandma is going to watch her. I hope to get on at least the treadmill again tomorrow!!! Speaking of which... I broke a piece off of my treadmill. DD5 wanted to show me something, so my awkward self turned to look at her and my shoe got stuck under the piece of plastic at the end of the tread. I yanked my foot up and snapped that plastic right off. Hubby said he has glue for that!!!

Thank you all sooooo much for the   and :grouphug: :grouphug: It means so so so much to me to be able to come here for objective opinions and your never-fail support. I think I am still feeling much worse than I should about this, but much better than I would have if you all hadn't been so supportive. Thanks, guys!

Sunny -- your story had me scared silly. I can't even imagine what I would have done. But, then again, there was that time DD then 13 responded to an unknown IM, "chatted" with a supposed 16 year old from Florida for most of an hour, was stupid enough to print out the IM script (though I am glad she did that and I found it) and the guy started sending her nude pix of himself. Let me tell you one thing-- there was no way that guy was 16. And apparently, she gave him her home address and phone number in case he wanted to come visit. After a visit from the State Police who looked at the computer history and then the County Police having a meeting with us at school to lecture DD, we had to come up with a strategy to have her supervised at all times in case he attempted to meet her when she got off the school bus or something. It is unbelievable that kids just don't believe us when we tell them not to do this stuff. They really do think they are immortal and invincible.

I really hope my BP goes down before my cardiologist appt in the morning.

Heading to bed -- after chocolate!

Thanks all. Love Ya, Mean It!!! :grouphug:

Cam - sending :grouphug: your way. Hope everything works out w/your DD.

I've been away the early part of this week and got back today. Tried to get caught up with all the posts.

Sounds like everyone had good races last weekend. Congrats! :thumbsup2

I haven't been doing a whole lot. Feel like I've hit a plateau. I need to find the motivation and soon! Hoping the nicer weather will bring about renewed energy. (Of course they're calling for snow tomorrow!)

Terri

Cam - More :grouphug: Just reading your post brought tears to my eyes, and made me want to go hug DD15 and thank her for being good - so far!

Amy - So sorry you have bronchitis. Just take it easy, don't push too hard, and you'll be back out there before you know it! I'm feeling really lousy tonight, but I think it's mostly the letdown from the past couple of weeks. I should be in bed, but instead I'm catching up on everybody's posts!

And for everyone who says dogs are difficult... mine had all her shots yesterday, and then spent 11 hours alone today, and I came home to several piles. This from a dog who NEVER has an accident indoors. I couldn't scold her too much, but I truly didn't feel up to dealing with cleaning up after her tonight. DD and I had to take turns, and the poor baby is still sulking!

Did a quick 20 minute wog - 1.6 miles - need to do more, but had to go to DD's soccer game and be a good mom!

Jackie

Couldn't sleep so thought I'd see what y'all are up to. I had to spend time today writing a letter to an insurance company on a patient who's refusing to pay for visits where she saw the PA and not the Doctor

Took an extra rest day today to help my leg heal. I'm afraid I'm going to have to start wearing my lovely black and blue Shox to work until this plantar thing is better...high heels are NOT helping my heel pain :sad2:

Cam...yikes...that's a scary Internet story! If it helps, I have a friend with two teenagers who's recommended a book called "Yes, Your Teen is Crazy". I haven't had a chance to look for it yet, but it's definitely on my list.

Amy... :wizard: works for bronchitis too ;) Hope you're feeling better soon.

Jackie...hope your DS did well at his soccer game!

Terri...how are you doing? Are your legs healed up now?

Football? Is it football season yet? :woohoo: We're watching American Idol now to cope with football withdrawal ;) . My favorite recent news...Daunte Culpepper (who played for UCF where I did my undergrad) is joining the Dolphins for next season :cool1:

Booked our WDW vacation for Memorial week at SSR. Has anyone been to Discovery Cove? We're thinking about that for DD13 if she can keep up her streak of straight A's for the whole school year!

Good night and good training everyone!

I feel your pain! Barkley had all his shots last week. Barkley did not leave any pile presents....we did get a wet one or two...and we JUST cleaned the carpet, getting the house readyt o be put on the market. But he was so pathetic. He did the limp noodle thing for 3 days, had to have a liter of fluids on the third day. The fluids kicked in on day 5...and finally, he is starting to feel like his good old happy self!! :grouphug: as you deal with that! I was heartbroken watching Barkley go through all that. And as for his shots next year...he is either NOT getting them...or they are going to have to do them one at a time....weeks apart. Good luck and :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: to you and your furbaby!!!

Good morning everyone!!!!!.. Beautiful sunny day here in Southern Ontario.

I finally have some times to report in, just keep in mind I am new at this but was pretty proud of myself. I did a 2 mile "brisk" or at least "brisk" walk for me did 1 mile in 14:34 mins and finished 2 miles in 29:08 mins. I had no idea how fast I walked so I decided to time it out and work on my distance as well as time. I also incorporated a jog at the end....just about killed me..but I did it :thumbsup2 Not sure what the distance was but I did it.

Worked out upper body this morning and feel great. Really starting to believe I can do this.

Hope you all have a awesome day!!!!!

Kim

Good morning everyone,

I finally have time to post - been extremely busy at work this week but I haven't let that stop me from getting in some good workouts.

Monday - I did a little bit over 4 miles on the threadmill, some crunches on the stability ball, stationary plank, and Vtwist (for abs).

Tuesday - Finally ordered a Garmin Forerunner 101, although the wait is now killing me :teeth: . I ended up working on my Bosu ball (a DVD workout came with the Bosu).

Last night - Elliptical for 15 minutes, TM - 3 miles, ab exercises using the stability ball and my 6 pound weighted ball.

Tonight is my WW meeting.....not sure if I lost anything but I hope so....eventhough, I made their goal, I haven't come close to making my own personal goal.

Well, I'm going to catch up on everyone's posts. Have a good day everyone!

Jodi
