Great job SOnya! You were flying!

Dilema - Need help somewhat quickly.

OK, I was all set to sign up for the 10 K Saturday. I really think a race would boost my training. I looked up last year's results, though, and it's not pretty. The last 2 years have had 337 to 367 runners. Our pace from Saturday, where I pushed it hard the first 2/2.5, would have put us 5th to 8th from the last. :guilty: Will being darn near last hurt more than it helps? I know the whole DNF>DLF>>DNS, but after finishing a marthon fairly well (at least from what I wanted to do), doing darn near last in a 10K sounds kind of depressing to me? ANy thoughts? AM I just being silly?

Ok..... If you like the course and feel like you want to run it, I say go for it. BUT, I was going to run the 5K at CG and had the same reaction when I saw the times of last years finishers. :guilty: So, go out there and just do it for fun. Don't worry about your time, don't worry about the other racers. I have sadly had to beg off this weekend because I have to go up north and play golf, otherwise I would totally come out there and run it and be next to last with y'all :teeth: .

Carrie- Go for it, sign up, have fun, and don't worry about it. Even if you are last, you will be out there having fun doing it. Just think of all your fellow WISHers while you run, and you won't be alone. I bet you won't even be as far back as you think.

That being said, I just signed up for a cross country series on Thursday evenings in August at a park really close to my house. I'm intentionally signing up just to break up the monotony of my training, deep water runs and run/walks on the track. And I plan on starting out walking the first 5 minutes, and fully anticipate being last. I don't care - I'm going to have fun! Plus, there is a series of kids races too. I asked the princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:, if they wanted to run, and they said "Yeah!!!" So we all signed up, the races are around 6pm Thursday evenings, and we'll go get dinner and ice cream afterwards. See Jodi, I just made my own race for ice cream.

Quick drive-by post on my training:

I did my run/walk plan on the track over lunch, and it wasn't so bad at all. I did 3 miles in a little over 38 min (12-something mpm). I jogged 1.5 miles, and walked the rest. My jogging bits were around 10mpm. My right leg hurt a little, but all and all it wasn't too bad. Saw my orthopaedist afterwards, he pulled on my feet a little, and said "your making progress!" I guess, my appointments with him last all of about 2 minutes. Anyway, I guess I am making progress it's just very slooooooowwwww. :snail: (that's for you MelR)

OK, I'm signing up. I wish Kevin wer coming, though. Even, though he'd whoop me. Forgive me for being a baby, you guys are all right and it's likely the advice I would have given. Being last is way better than not taking the chance. Thanks fo rputting me straight! :goodvibes

ETA: There were more people last year than 04, but less over 10 mpm. I guess I'll go out there and help teh stats for those looking to do it in 07. ;)

This is Zack's Crocodile cake from his Peter Pan birthday last month.

I finally figured out how to post pics - you guys better watch out! :teeth:

ETA: I hope that size is better!

ETA Again: Ok, I give up! I tried re-sizing three times and whatever I'm doing is wrong. And to think I work in the graphics dept. at work! :rotfl2: Ok, not so funny (for me) - but I will play with it later. Sorry it's so darn big!

Kristi -- That is so CUTE!! Good job!

Carrie -- I am so proud of you for being so determined and courageous and putting your ego aside. Just know that we will all be with you. Well, not literally, of course. ;) Personally, I plan on being in Williamsburg with kids & DH for our last family weekend before DD goes off to college. :sad1: (Okay, I originally had  but figured that to anyone who doesn't know how high maintenance my DD17 is, that would have seemed very cruel and un-mommy-like! :teeth: )

Dave -- That running series sounds very cool. :cool1: You may be cultivating two very talented runners with whom you will be able to share this sport for the long-term.

lol about dd Cam! Thanks for being proud.

I'll try to keep all your voices in my head on Saturday! (Is it wrong to hope that no one from work sees me. I'm afraid they'll think I lied about doing a marathon in January. :rotfl2: )

Great cake Kristi!

Carrie -- I'm so conflicted. On the one hand, completely frantic about what kinds of trouble she may get herself into. On the other hand, wondering whether being completely responsible for herself will propel her to a new level of maturity. I wish there were no risk to achieve the latter objective. I know I'll go  thinking about her all the time, wondering whether she got herself up in time for class, whether she's taken her meds, whether she's doing her homework, eating something other than junkfood (what are we paying $1900 for if she isn't going to the dining room for food but getting chick fil-a or pizza or subway instead?) You guys are going to have such a hard time putting up with me in about 3 weeks. Let me just beg your forgiveness ahead of time.

Morning all - just to update, yep we're definitely doing the cat rescue thing when we're ready, but we really wanted a kitten sized kitten not least because we already have a name picked out (say hello to Claude leMew) and they've only got older cats at the moment which all have names - although I admit I do feel most sorry for the big kitties, and when I do finally get there I can see me coming home with two - one small, one large (hmm, Mario LeMew perhaps) but......Tim's theory is we can only have a cat born after last Tuesday, he is now subscribing to the theory of reinCATnation (that boy missed his vocation, he should be naming things) and figures UB's new cat shape will find us when she's ready, but therefore cat must be 'new to the earth'. I think grief's turned him bonkers.

Anyway, running is still happening - although I was supposed to do 4.5miles last night and shirked off at 4.1 but I'm sure I'll make up for it later in the week. Helen

Carrie, go for it! I know what I speak of. Back in 1989, when I first started my running phase of adult life and weighed 50 pounds more than I do now, I entered a triathlon (1 mile swim, 20 mile bike and 5 mile run). I knew I was not in shape and/or very fast but I wanted to do one - heck I had trained for 6 weeks now so I must be ready. Well I came in 165th out of the 167 finishers and walked about half of the run portion but I finished and there were more than 60 entries who didn't. Now more than 200 races later, this was one of the proudest moments I have experienced as an endurance athlete. You will finish and you will be so proud of yourself for even entering. Enjoy the experience :thumbsup2 .

TM for me today...2 miles in 30:26 for a 15:13 pace. That's still at W5/R5. I'm planning to try W4/R6 on Wed :scared1: My mom gave me a whole bag of paperback books...that's the only reason I'm sticking with the TM for right now. Well, that and the heat, humidity, and trying not to reinjure my foot like I might have on Sat :rolleyes1

Kelley... :welcome:

Dave...my reunion is this coming weekend, but they'll be reuniting without me. The 10-year just wasn't that great. Congrats on your run today and your slow but sure progress!

Cam... :rotfl: I can't imagine what I'll be like when Kaley goes off to college. Of course, right now, she says she wants to live at home and go to UF, but we'll see how she feels about that in 5 years  I'm sure you'll have nothing to worry about...your DD will eat right, get up on time and never, ever miss her classes...just like we all did as undergrads :rolleyes1

Carrie...how did I ever miss the disneyrunning.com site? Am I the only one that's never been there :confused3 I think you should do the 10K...you'll be great! I always check prior race results before I register for any race. As long as there's at least one person slower than I think I'll finish, I'm in :thumbsup2

Helen...I kinda like Tim's cat karma theory. Wonder what sort of feline she'll come back as?

Kristi...love the cake!

Krista...we're getting a FiOS upgrade for our cable in a couple weeks. Thinking about buying the extra package for ESPNHD and the NFL network. :woohoo: DD's fine...thinking about volleyball this year in addition to soccer and running.

Sonya...congrats on your race...great pace!

Sunny... :grouphug: yikes...wish we had enough pixiedust: to make it better.

Mike...glad you drove-by. How's the thyroid nodule?

Denny...I'm not an expert in fulls, but would you be able to safely build up to a 20 mile LR then taper before the full? You could probably do the full as you described, but might risk injury if you haven't been up to those distances in training yet.

Paul...congrats on the 14! Didn't I see your brother hanging around these parts?

Cam, I understand completely. Last fall my baby headed off to Ohio State, over 7 hrs from home. I won't even try to tell you not to worry, 'cause that is part of a mom (and dad's) job description, but you will get through it. Technology does make it easier to stay in touch though, 10 years earlier when my oldest headed off to Marquette we didn't have email. Now I can just drop my DS and DD (a senior!! at Millikin) a brief email to say hi and check in without being (I hope) overbearing, and they can answer when it is convenient. It is a wonderful, scary, exhilarating, and terrifying time. Just remember...one day at a time!

Well, I just got back home and read everyone's responses, and your voices of reason will play heavily in my decision.

Kevin, to answer your question about my plan, I read the Marathoning for Mortals book, and instead of following the plan to the letter, I followed it in spirit. What I mean is, I kept a LR for weekends, and 2 or 3 SR's during the week, and slowly increased my LR. Since I started training about 11 months prior to the Disney 1/2M, and the plan was a 4mo plan, I didn't push my LR's as fast as the plan called for (now I wish I had pushed a little harder, but who would have thought I would be looking at a full M). My SR's are typically 4 miles, and my LR is up to 10 miles. I've done no run/walk training. I just though by interspersing some walks with easy runs, I could get through 26.2 miles

Anyway, I'm leaning toward signing up for the 1/2M that is the first weekend in Oct, and skipping the Akron Marathon. I'm new to this running stuff, and while I do want to achieve something significant, I'll try to be patient. I'm going to continue with my current training and see how things are progressing. If I get to early September, and get a sudden bout of optimism (or stupidity), I reserve the right to change my mind and go for it (...but probably not!)

Carrie, you've been such a bundle of support and enthusiasm for many of us, that I hate to see you enduring one of the many "valleys" we all go through. I know you'll do well, not compared to a clock, or compared to another runner, but compared to your expectations, and it's the "lows" that allow us to appreciate the "highs". It's suffering through the bad runs that make the good runs that much better.

Thanks everyone.

Denny - Duh... I forgot to tell you that if you don't train by walk/running, it seems like the walking hurts more than the runs when you get out there in the back stretch (after about 17 miles) I have learned that the ugly way!

Sunny - Please keep posting. We all know you are not a whiner! I have been so sad for you that you are going through all this and am continuing to pray that you can get some answers.

Carrie - last/smast! I've done it. The way I look at it is (you know, the underachiever's philosophy)... basically, I'm a middle of the pack runner. I don't often finish in a notable position. Last is certaintly notable, so go for it and make it the best last place run you've ever done :teeth: :teeth:

Hi WISH Team!

I was just going through some photos from January. I haven't posted a one up yet. I'm sorry.

I thought this would be a fun moment!

Cam and me

It is wonderful remembering all the fun that was had.

Didn't do anything tonight, must make it tomorrow. Danced at a wedding Sunday...that was my workout oh the pleasure of that!

Welcome to the WISH Team Denny. It is great to have you.

Kristi, love the cake pic. Whow! You are creative.

Sunny, prayers that tomorrow you have answers and can work toward a positive resolution. The graphics you painfully created for us are spectacular.

Carrie, I hope you can find a way to have fun with the event. Try not to be to aware of being last. If that is your place, then go it in WISH Team Style and with a huge Smile! You could be generous and take the last participants in hand with you and all cross the line together, then no one will be "the one."

Pat, that is the best thing you could say about that college parent feeling.
Cam, what she said!

Helen, I love the incatation or however ya spelled it. Glad you will have one at the right time.

Hope Judy is having a fantastic time on vaca.

Sorry team mates. I've run out of remembering, will try to do better next post.

Good night.

Hi all!

Spent 2 days at the beach, but had to come back for work tomorrow morning. Will had back to the beach on Friday for the weekend. Rest of the family got to stay. Weather is supposed to be really nice!

I walked/ran 6.25 miles. Not a lot, but I was on vacation.

Denney and Kelley - Welcome to the group!

Sunny - Hang in there! Hope your back feels better soon. Thanks for the logos!

Sonya - What a great race. You were really moving!

Dave - I think it's great that your dd's want to participate. It's a great family activity.

Mel - You asked about martial arts. I practice Tae Kwan Do (although I've been on a 2 year hiatus. I plan on returning in Sept.) I currently hold a 1st degree red belt. My next test will be for black belt (I have a lot of catching up to do before that test occurs  ).

I find it's been very good for me stretching and toning the body. The self defense aspect helps, too. I only ever had to employ the self defense techniques for real on one occasion. I always wondered if I would be able to do it. But it kinda came naturally. I didn't even think about it, I just did it.
I've heard Tai Chi is great for fitness also. So that would be a good choice if you didn't want the combative aspects.

I kinda like the sparring and breaking boards. Gives me a chance to relieve some stress. I do worry about getting injured (and messing up my marathon training). Good luck with whichever you choose.

Terri

Good night.
:rotfl:

Thanks for the pics LIly! Brought back my favorite memory. I'm smiling now.

Denny - I like the half plan better, although I think you could pull it off. You amaze me!

I am officially signed up!!!

WISH team is the best! Have not decided what to wear yet, except my socks! I know those will get me through! Thanks to everyone. I've not been much of an inspiration lately, and then I have a habit of not putting my steps where my mouth is. I'm running Saturday for all of you! :grouphug:

OK, must be late. I'm getting sappy adn it's not even December yet! ;)

Today was my off day so no training to report. DS's have gone to "Camp Nana" for the week so it's pretty quite around here. This weekend we all meet in Atlanta for a Braves game & going to the new aquarium (with 4 million of our closest friends :crowded: )

Today is 50 min & then I'm going to the gym for WT.

Lily=great pics!!! Just a little over 5 months to go!

Denny-WELCOME!

Dave-that sounds like alot of fun. DS8 has really gotten into the racing thing. He has done several 5k's & is mad that most of the 10k's have a min age of 12. I love that he enjoys it :thumbsup2

Carrie-good job signing up! Dont worry about where you are in the standing, just get out there, do it & have fun! :cheer2:

Kristi-that cake looks great! I'm sure my kids wish I would make cakes like that.

Kelley-WELCOME! Your pace is awesome! You will not regret signing up for these races (although your pocket book might, because Disney races seem to be addictive) You are way faster than most of us were when we started so even in your pace slows a little as you increase your distance , you are still way ahead of the sweepers. And that's all that really matters!

Kevin-WTG! You really are getting back into it now :yay:

Sonya-congrats on the race! Great pace

Have a great day everyone! After running I get to do additional XT by cleaning out the laundry room & organizing the craft shelves. Boy will that be some kind of fun :sad2:

Just a quick post for now -- I will catch up later to everyone!

Last night I did 4 miles on the threadmill - 1 walking and the other 3 running. :goodvibes

Tonight I will make my rest night, so it will be a little bit easier to catch up on what people have posted.
