Wk of Jan. 27th-- WISH Walking/Running Club

Thanks everyone for all your advice on the race. I am actually torn between the advice everyone gave. Due to my deeply competitive nature :rolleyes1 I am actually a little paranoid of doing exactly what Jackie said and discussed this issue with DH. I don't want to push myself too much too soon and re-injure. However her pace is a lot slower than my slow pace so I was thinking of trying to train for the best I can do without reinjure. Thanks for the encouragement Leana things are looking better now. I know that when DH did RFTT with our friend who ran a lot slower pace than DH runs, she told me over and over that she only finished, and finished as well as she did because he was pushing her to it. Not purposely -- you know what I mean. Well I will think about a little more and see how I feel easing back into training the next couple of weeks.

I am happy to report absolutely no pain today even after running last night.:woohoo:

Also on the subject of the CDC, it just so happens that we were discussing visiting my cousin in Missouri then popping up to Chicago at the end of the summer. :rolleyes1 I just have a question, is it not HOT in August to be running a 1/2 Marathon. You have to remember I am from FL if you run outside in August you die :scared1: Those that did it last year please tell me what it was like.

Gotta go back to work

Just making it over to the new thread...I'll be reading to catch up. Wow, it had better be slow at work this week, or I'll never be able to keep up with you guys!

*Quickly*

Everyone who's rooting for the Pats -- WooHoo!

Angie, the CDC weather was hot, but not as hot as the Chicago Marathon, and not as hot as the 2007 WDW.

Stacie, I'm sorry to read about your pain. Maybe take it a bit slower until you can build up more strength.

Sorry if this has been addressed before but...
How can one join your WISH team. This is the year I am stepping out of my comfort zone and I am just going to go ahead and ask if I can be a part of your group. I ran the Disney Half this year(first half for me - yeah me!) and you were such a supportive group. I am Goofy 2009 and I am going to need all the help I can get!
Thanks in advance!

Wow, you all are amazing!

Read the thread and it looks like this is for 1/2 and full marathoners - could someone point me in the right direction for the 2009 WDW 5K thread? Have not been able to find one yet. :)

Would love to try the 1/2 next year, but due to my MS, cannot commit to more than the 5K - still, am very excited!!

Thanks for the inspiration!!

You ROCK!!! :cheer2:

Still catching up with last week.

Jen - Once again, Scott spotted (Paul?). I did recognize him when I saw him, but didn't remeber he belonged to you. :( Sorry I didn't wait. :(

Did 4 miles outsdie Saturday. DId it over 3 to 4" of semi-hard pack and it was a workout. Supposed to rain tonight adn be 17 Wed, so that hard apck will be really hard ice. Back to teh TM. :(

Off to catch up with this week!

You just joined!!!

WELCOME!

Groovygirls: Step into our comfort zone!!! Welcome aboard. You posted, now we own you!!!!!!!

Christine: Some of us just finished the 1/2 and/or marathon so we are probably coming across as being all about that. But really we are all about helping each other through any race or just through exercise and healthy lifestyles in general. Hop on the train, you'll feel the love in no time!!!!

OK, sort of caught up through page 1.

Julie - Welcome!!!! I'll repeat what was already said. be very careful not to do to omuch too soon. You have a year. Let your body adjust slowly or it weill rebel. BTW, I think you'll find a few otehr crazy peoplehere. ;) We were all in similar boats at one point in time, though, so use us if you need anyhting!

Going from r/w to all run: My best advice? DOn't. My ego forces em to, not that I think less of anyone else for doing it. Really, cause teh r/w'ers tend to kick our behinds. ;) Our pace went down. Plus, it;s liekly harder on teh joints. IMO, it's not worth it, unless you have it in your brain from way back that walking is cheating and your ego demans you run. JMO, of course. ALso, if I want to do a r/w when conditions are bad, my muscles are not used to it and ithey cramp up. If you're already doing it, you have the opption of changing the intervals to fit the situation.

My training group got together Friday night at Senor Frog's to celebrate this month's birthday babies. We get together the third Friday of each month as an excuse to go have dinner and cocktails. Our motto is "Live to Run, Run to Eat." 22 people in all were able to make the party.

I got in a 8 mile run today (Sunday), from Kapiolani Park, up over Diamond Head, out to Kahala Mall, and then back. The route covers part of the actual Honolulu Marathon.

Trying to figure out my race schedule this year. Possibly the Hilo marathon in March, but I haven't committed myself yet. Another choice could be the Maui Marathon. We'll see.

Have a great week everyone.

Jeff, I've just got to see your WDW Goofy weekend pics. I loved all of them. Great job you were both sure booking! Love the motto of your club.

Hi Everyone-

Well, it's official. I have signed up for Goofy in 2009. :goodvibes

Angie - I admire your loyalty to your friend that you are having such a tough time deciding how to run your race. I am torn with what to tell you because I think there are good arguments for both sides. I ran the full marathon as a mentor for TNT and therefore did not run my own race. I know I could have had a better finishing time if I had run on my own, but I would not have had as good a time on the course. I laughed and danced and met lots of WISHers along the way. If I had been focused on a finishing time, I would have missed so much. However, I have not been injured. I have not had to claw my way back to the starting line like you have. Your friend should know that it is important for you to run this race for yourself. You can celebrate together when its over. What I do not think is a good idea is going out there with the idea of getting a PR. Make this race a celebration of recovery and save the PR for another day when just being able to run the race is no longer as exciting. Good Luck with whatever you decide.

Quick question - do we know when they're going to officially announce what's up with the Minnie/Princess/Whatever it's going to be weekend for 2009?

DH and I are trying to decide what to do. Since DS's first birthday will fall across marathon weekend in January, it's unlikely that we'll be able to make it for that next year (I can already hear the grandparents complaining about us stealing the baby away to Florida on his first birthday!). But, I don't know, maybe we could celebrate his birthday a week early or a week late, and that could appease everyone.

SO, if we don't do the Donald in '09, our plan would be to come out for the May event. But I'm an obsessive planner, so this not knowing is driving me crazy!

I just saw that the half is already 55% full! :scared1: I thought I'd have more time to decide what to do.

OK, sort of caught up through page 1.

I've actually discovered that I'm faster with a W3/R1 interval than a W3/R2. Now if I can just improve my walking speed......:rolleyes1

Welcome to all the new folks! :welcome: party:

Well, WWDave says the ladies are all pretty princesses, so I guess that makes me royalty!:rotfl:

I actually meant dh and I. DH refuses to post, but gratefully acknowledges and accepts all the encouragement and advice from the WISH team...

Greetings Fellow Race Team Members -

I have perused the entire last two weeks threads and see that no one even noticed I was missing. Hmmmpf. :snooty:

:rolleyes1

Started Minnie Training this morning. My goal is to be less complacent. I am pushing myself a bit more for this event. More speed. More hills. And as the weather improves, more time outside. :thumbsup2

I noticed, but I must admit I've been missing a lot lately too - so I didn't say anything.

Groovygirls- welcome!

Christine Welcome! I haven't seen a thread about the 09 5K yet, but I'm sure there will be one sometime. Keep an eye out!

Has anyone seen a clippie for the 09 Donald, cuz I just signed up!

Judy I'm with you, I want to speed up a bit. How do you plan on accomplishing that? (looking for ideas!)
