Wk of Jan. 27th-- WISH Walking/Running Club

So tonight we went to the gym again and I ran 3.91miles. It took me right about 38 minutes. It was better than yesterdays heat issues, I wore my short orange shorts and a drifit t shirt. I also took straight water rather than G2. I have also seem to have hit my stride as far as balancing work and school. It means that I have put things into order of importance.
1. Work
2. School Work
3. Training
4. Sleep
5. Disboards
6. BT
So I am going to really be budgeting my time. But I have also figured out that if I watch CNN while on the TM I could combine school and Training. One of my classes requires me to keep up to date with the 2008 Presidential Race, so I have also mastered the art of multitasking. Plus I take my books to work and read on my breaks so I really have made to most of al the tie that I have per day. Well I should get back to my school work.

Hey all....Still really training but LTO does not even begin to describe where I am right now.
Please keep my family in prayer....my mom had cancer 4.5 years ago. She went for her last CT scan and it has returned. She started her 1st of 6 rounds of chemo today. The doctors are very positive and she is too. I just hate she has to go through the chemo again.

Sorry such a downer post.

Christa-- so sorry to hear this. My mom is a survivor so I know how hard it was to watch her go through that. We'll keep you and your family in our thoughts....

Christa--Will be keeping your mom and the whole family in my thoughts and prayers!:wizard:

Hi! I recently decided to get back in shape but need to set long term goals for myself to achieve anything... So what better than what everyone tells me I can't do-the 2009 WDW 1/2 marathon... I plan on doing the minnie 5k to get started. I'm not really a runner, I never have been but I went out and bought my marathons for mortals book earlier. I'm super excited but wondering what i'm getting myself into. Any tips or advice? I'm not even sure where to start...

Erin, what's 'BT'? My guesses:
Beer Time
Boyfriend Torture
Bonsai Tweaking
Bovine Tipping
Bacon Tomato
Baklava Tasting
Bomb Threat

I'm glad that you're finding that balance. I know that's tough, when you have so much going on. I guess the online classes make it a bit easier, since you can have a little more flexibility with your time.

I am STILL HUNGRY. ALWAYS HUNGRY after the WDW half! Anybody got a peanut?

Welcome to our little part of the world, Nessa!:cool1:

You'll find lots of advice and support here - we all started pretty much like you, so we know where you are coming from.

My two cents - Follow that book. It helped me tremendously. You can do this! I just ran my first WDW half a few weeks ago, and I tell ya (waxing poetic here), it can change your life :woohoo:

No training here today...rest day for me!

Christa--my thoughts and prayers are with your mom and your family. Hang in there!

Renee--like Amy, I was wondering how you made out at the marathon...we met up just before MGM and played leapfrog for awhile as well, but then I lost you around the YC/BC. Glad to hear you made it through despite the back pain! Good to see you around here again!

Leana--Hope you are feeling better soon! There is so much stuff going around here, I haven't felt good the past few days, so I am hoping I am not getting sick myself. Take care of yourself!

Welcome to all the new folks! It is getting mightly hard keeping up these days, but I do read all the posts!!

Nessa:welcome: First of all did you sign up, just in case you have not heard the BUZZ, it's already 55% full :scared1: We are so glad you joined us for your journey. The only advice I have right now is whatever plan you pick just stick with it and stick with us for fun, encouragement and a great supportive team.
Christa Your mom and your family are going right into my journal and will be in my thoughts and prayers
StephanieSuch a hard decision. Is there no one else that can come along and watch the kids :confused3 Surely there is someone, a niece, friend, etc.
Leana Hope you are feeling better soon. The longer the better on the wisdom teeth thing, I won't even tell you my horror story.

No training for me tonight, not pushing my luck after good run last night and no pain today :cool1:

Thank you everyone for all the advice. I really have thought a lot about not pushing it too hard so quickly. But I also have thought about this being my first race back and wanting to make it as good as I can!!!

So at least the full isn't filling up too quickly yet, :rolleyes1 wanted to get a few weeks back into running before I make that commitment.

Have a good night

Jeff from Oahu- I am tentatively planning the Maui Half marathon and the Honolulu Marathon plus Waikiki Roughwater Swim, the North Shore Swim Series, whatever local triathlon is happening when I have an off weekend and Xterra World Championships on Maui. I'll also work the Ironman World Champs as a physician. So really my race schedule will depend on when I'm not on call. nice thing about Hawaii is all the options.

Christa- not much to say other than you have our prayers and our :grouphug:

Skywalker Dave- there's a 15 K in early Apr in Rochester at Mendon Ponds called the Spring Forward race. It's put on by Yellow Jacket Racing/Fleet Feet Rochester folks. I plan on coming over for it but don't know if either my Mom or sister will too.

Ran 5 of the 7 days last week and skate skied 25 K/ snowshoed 30 min on the 6th day. It hit a blistering high of 17 that day but it started at -16 F. I only did 20 miles with the longest being 7 but I'm building up slowly as to avoid injury. I'm going for consistency that will eventually translate into higher overall volumes. Hopefully it will pay off in some PB times at my races in late Apr and May.

Groovygirls: Step into our comfort zone!!! Welcome aboard. You posted, now we own you!!!!!!!

:rotfl2: Lisa! But it's true. Welcome to all our new team mates!!!!

Judy!!! I can't complain about being MIA since I am horrible about watching this thread but I do have to agree with the others asking WHY haven't you signed up for the weekly miles?!?!?!

I've been wondering about Sunny too and any word on Tiff?

Christa!! Prayers and thoughts for you Mom.

Krista I've been reading "I Run, Therefore I am Nuts" :thumbsup2

I had hoped to get in a short run tonight but that rain Carrie has arrived. Grrr. But i DID pack my gym bag, perhaps there is hope for tomorrow :thumbsup2

Happy training to all!!!! :)

Hey all, I am packing up because I leave for a business trip to Chicago tomorrow. I needed to stop in and say... HEY!!!! I was hoping to get in some great workouts knowing that my schedule usually has gaps.... No can do. We are not staying at the convention hotel, instead it is 3-4 blocks away. Then I check and I am booked solid all say Wednesday and into the evening. WHAT!!! Then Thursday I am also booked most of the day. Come home Friday. Oh nice, so Minnie training will had to wait a bit until I get back. Really bummed about that!

I want to thank everyone for their massively supportive posts. I came home from WDW majorly depressed, but am gradually gaining momentum to get back on track, stronger, thinner and happier. I even checked my Silent Sports mag tonight and started planning out April and May races (remember I am in WI and we have bad weather through March!) Speaking of which, it is freezing rain as I type and I have to drive to Chicago tomorrow!!!!

Have a great week all. I am not thinking I will have internet unless I find a nice free hookup.... not likely!!!

Wow, I am so lost! I move to Singapore one week ago and the place looks totally different!

Ni Hao from Singapore. We just got connected to the internet today (our Tuesday/your Monday night). I see there are some groups??? Miles and minutes??? I need to catch up. Needless to say there will not be any miles or minutes here recorded until we're all signed up at the American Club. (treadmills ;) It's too hot to run outside every day!)

We're moved in but our stuff doesn't arrive for a while. It's slow going but going well at least. I was :headache: that it took so long to get internet and cable.

Nice to "see" ya'll.

Oh! One more funny thing: Chinese New Year is Feb. 7th. The celebrations began in January and end Feb. 17th. Disney is capitalizing this year for the Chinese New Year as it is the year of the rat! Our mall, Causeway Point, has Disney stuff everywhere and Mickey and Minnie banners all over. I felt a bit closer to home. ::MickeyMo

Vicki,
Yes, the weather is hot but the multi-cultural food there is fantastic!:thumbsup2

Chinese New Year is a big celebration over there. Enjoy Singapore!

Lynne- My girls, DD7 pooh: and DD10 princess:, volunteered for that race at the water stop 2 years ago, and last year I ran that race. It was a lot of fun. It's a tough, hilly course, and YellowJacket/Fleet Feet put on a great spread afterwards. I would definitely run that one again assuming my hip is cooperating. I think I'm going to take a good 2 weeks off of running to let it heal up. Anyhow, if you're going to be at the race maybe I'll plan on volunteering if I can't run it.

Christa - lots of  and :wizard: coming your way. Your mom sounds like a fighter. She did this once before and won.
She's going to do it again!

Christa - Sorry to hear about your mom. Hope everything goes well this time around.

Vicki - Hope your stuff arrives soon and you have a great time while over there.

Angie - No big advice on what to tell your friend other than go with what feels right. I remember Lynne saying that she tends to stay back to help others get through the race even though she has trained hard for each of them. It is just what she feels is right at the time.

Krista - Hope Steve is pampering you properly. It's never too early to take it easy because in 6 months or so, you won't get much sleep.

Judy - Where are you now. It has been 12 hours and you haven't posted. ;) We are going to have to send out the troops to find you and make you post. You don't need to spend all that time in the office anyway. :lmao:

Welcome to all our new members. I look forward to getting to know you as you prepare for your races.

I ran for .1 miles last night and my leg seems to be feeling better. I will probably wait a couple of more days just to make sure that it has recovered.

Bill

Hi team!

I'm trying to stay on track by posting before work, since as soon as I walk out the door this morning my day will be crazy until 10:00 tonight.

I'm planning on a 4 or 5 miler after my morning job this afternoon; forecast is for a high in the 60's so it should be beautiful!

Christa - Your mom and you are in my prayers. Sounds like she's got a good attitude.

Nessa - Welcome! My advice would be to do some smaller (5K, 10K) races on your way to the half. They're fun and help to keep up your motivation.

Laurie -Congrats on your time! You beat me by a minute. I was just trying to stay ahead of the 5:30 pace guy.

Vicki - Sounds like you're off to a great start in Singapore!

PD for all the illnesses/injuries. Happy training!
Renee

Good Morning Everyone!

Today I start my half marathon training. My first half is 4 weeks from Sunday! Today I head to the gym for a refresher course on weights from my friend who happens to be a personal trainer. Then onto the dreadmill for my miles.

Erin - Wow you certainly do have your days full! As a mom, I have to do alot of that too. I planned my sons class holiday party on a long run last fall. Just programed all the numbers into my phone and delegated everything. My running partner laughed about the 5th time I asked someone to email me to confirm because I "don't have a pen & paper with me right now." Anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

Nessa - Welcome! You can do it! Just remember its one step at a time and one workout at a time.

Christa - oh gees. I know how tough the second fight with cancer can be both physically and mentally. Your mom has already been though this and that can be good and it can be bad. Hopefully some of the new chemo treatments they have come out with will make this an easier battle.

Vicki - you sound so positive and I know that you are in a stressful situation. I am so glad there is lots of Mickey and Minnie to make you feel at home.

Cecilia

Chrita--so sorry to hear about your mom!!!

For me...I did some XT last night... Elliptical for 35 min and bike for 15 min. It's been a while since I did the elliptical, but I did and was happy with that. The weird thing...I did about 65 rpm on each the bike and elliptical, but the machines read that my heart rate was higher on the bike. I felt like I was working harder on the elliptical. :confused3 Maybe the machines are off???

Busy day at work... Hope everyone has a good day!
Stacie
