Marathon Weekend 2026

Corral question from the 10k, HM, and M for this past MW!

This has to do with corrals D and later.

I remember there being a 2nd D corral next to the main (and very, very full) D corral. Was this a fever dream? I also don't recall if it was for the HM, the M, or both. As I stood in the crowd of people for an hour plus, because of course we stand up and squish to the front horrifically early, I watched a few hundred people file into the empty corral next to us. That corral had been empty the entire time, and they were released into the walk-to-the-start-chute after the corral I was in. My assumption is that this was a 2nd D corral for late-comers, and also allowed plenty of space in the event that there was a medial issue or other emergency within D corral. I know that there was discussion about it somewhere, and the thought was that it made the corrals more manageable, allowed people with non-POT corrals to actually be in the *correct* corral and not overload the later corrals and have a more reasonable "cap" for number of people in a given space while still allowing people to be in their assigned corral.

Can anyone confirm this? Did E/F/G corrals have this?

I’m struggling to remember the details, but if I recall correctly…

They had “overflow” corrals set up, for D at least, but maybe also the rest? Yes, each corral had a set capacity: if you got into D1 before it closed to capacity, but wanted to use a potty after it closed, you could leave briefly and come back with a password, but no new D people could enter. Any Ds arriving after D1 closed went into D2, which also had a set cap, same deal.

I was in the back of D1 and the chute itself was maybe 60% full - TONS of room in the back. Once we started the walk to the start, D2 filed in right behind us, so D effectively became one giant corral at the end. And lots of folks from D2 pushed forward trying to get further ahead.

I was in E last year and I'm pretty sure it had this, too. I might hang back until right before my corral closes because I don't feel like standing up and shuffling for longer than I need to!

I am starting to thing this same mind set. I was thinking about it during my long run on the weekend. Why do I need to stand in a pack, bunched together, especially if I get corral A again. I could go to the back and hang out, even sit down, stretch, go use the restroom if needed, until they bring corral B to the back of corral A. I would also not have to deal with all the people pushing to the front of the group 10 minutes before the race starts. That is annoying.

I remember this from the Princess Half this year (2025), that is the picture below:

And I seem to recall it from the 2024 Wine and Dine too. They were subdividing some of the corrals, cutting the first corrals off after they got full-ish, then filling the second one until the real cutoff time. They gave a password to exit/re-enter after the corral was closed. We asked about it, they said it was something they were trying out. I don't remember if they did this for Marathon weekend and I didn't see it for 2025 Springtime Surprise or 2025 Wine and Dine.

SAFD: I never really paid too much attention to the signs in my limited experience of 3 races. But I did laugh out loud at one sign I saw at the HF Wine&Dine that was a picture of Josh D'Maro and said something about how good looking he is. I told my 15 year old son about it afterwards because according to him he's the front runner to replace Bib Iger 😄. My son follows Disney more than I do so I thought he would appreciate such a random sign. Of all the signs I saw at these races this is the only one I still remember.

I definitely thought it was really cool to hear people waiting to get into Epcot cheering and clapping the runners on at the end of the race though. That was a pleasant highlight of the end of the race.

Hi everyone. I haven't been on for a few months. This has not been the best year for me running. I'm a little over 100 miles less than I was last year at this time and my pace is way off. But I did just finish my 20 mile run on Sunday. The first three were the worse but then I settled in pretty well. Getting excited as my oldest and I are doing the Goofy (we did the Dopey last year) and my 17 year old will be doing his first half. This was suppose to be a trip for just the three of us but now it's an entire family trip with four park days. I want to give a shout out to the Disney cast member who helped combine two separate reservations and extending a day. Took them an hour to figure it out but I'm grateful.

Think I'm going to be able to make DATW this year. Super excited for that.

SAFD: I just like having spectators present. It makes some of those long miles a little easier. In terms of my family, I love to be able to hand off stuff early in the race and get stuff later (lately oranges around mile 18 to 20 is amazing).

The people who want to come pushing through at the last minute are indeed super annoying. My preferred approach is to sit down and lean up against the fence and wait as long as possible to get up and start moving when the corral starts moving forward. Sitting down instead of standing for an hour or two really makes a big difference. And at SS I had a delightful conversation with another member of our forum, unbeknownst to me until after getting back home.

Nothing new to add. Love funny signs, high fives and seeing the fam multiple times. But a funny sign I saw at a trail race a few years back. It was a 50 mile race and just a couple hundred yards past the start a sign said “Your not even close”.
