Diane: Good job on the 4 miles, in SNOW, & on building your running base. That's where I am, too. It feels kind of strange to move from the marathon to concentrate on more minutes/miles of running. I'm glad your knee is doing well, too!
Angie: You are so thoughtful, re: your friend and the Minnie. I don't know you or your physical-health situation very well, but it sounds like you'd really like to test yourself at the Minnie. I can't think of a better way to express this sentiment than what
Cruella de Mom has already said! But my .02 cents is that I'm sure your friend would understand if you expressed it just like you told us. You could also adopt the phrase I've been using recently: "It's not about you, it's about me." (As in, I need to do this to really seen what I'm capable of and not because I don't enjoy your company.)
Katie: Hi to a fellow reader. The WISH team has been great with their suggestions. I'll never need to actually run, as I'll be so busy reading!

MSDave: Thanks for the additional titles. I was tempted by
Ultramarathon Man at the bookstore and will probably get it, but haven't heard of
Duel in the Sun. Oooh, I love making book lists.
Krista: Thanks for the suggestions and information. I hadn't even picked up Higdon's Run Fast book, thinking it might be too advanced for me. Now I know to give it a closer look. And funny books are always good!
Jeff: Congrats on the 8-miler. I just love the motto of your training group; it sounds like a solid core of people who really enjoy each other's company.
Matt: Great workout weekend! I say go for the LA Marathon; after all, you want to get your money's worth for the trip, right? Might as well make another marathon memory. (Of course, I don't have to run your races...

)
Welcome
GroovyGirls &
Christine!
The more, the merrier! Don't let the post-marathon weekend euphoria scare you away. Lots of us are still beginners to this running thing, myself included!
Carrie: I'll keep my fingers crossed on the weather--hopefully no ice for your runs! And thanks for the input on the r/w. And thanks,
Susie, for your experience with w/r intervals, too. Jackie, I am familiar with the broad outlines of Galloway's ideas, but now it looks like I should read his book. (Wait, does this mean I'm NOT an elite runner?

) Thanks to all for the responses; this information is quite useful to me.
TXang: I thought I'd have more time for these decisions, too. Our household's plans/priorities are still up in the air, and it wouldn't be mature of us to let Disney races make financial and other types of planning for us, would it? (No, seriously, would it?)
Maria: Then tell your DH that he should get together with my DH! Oh, and tell your DH I look forward to hearing about his successes on the Miles/Minutes Challenge!
As for me: An easy three miles r/w today, using C25K to transition to full running short distances. It feels sort of odd to be shifting "back" to C25K after MfM, but good. I found I do much better with the structure of a training program; who woulda thunk it?
And to everyone I didn't get a chance to respond to, happy training!
