Wk of Jan 21--WISH Walking/Running Club

The best news - since they are on their way out, they were over $20 cheaper. So my pants were kinda "free." :rotfl:

Are we long lost sisters?! :confused3 I like the way you think.

I registered for a 5k on March 3rd that benefits the Houston Area Women's Center. My goal is to be able to run the whole thing without dying. I better start putting in the steps. Hopefully in this 5k I won't get beat by a 9 year old. :rotfl2: (For all the newbies, this happened to me in my last 5k)

DH is installing new faucets in the bathroom right now. The project had to wait until the DDs were in bed. I sure hope he remembered to turn off the water. We'll find out soon enough. :rotfl:

Hey guys!

We made it back from our weekend at Disney! We all had a great time. Our day at the Magic Kingdom started out super sweet. We walked in just as they were doing a show in front of the castle. I will never forget the look on dd's face as she saw Mickey & Minnie for the first time (that she remembers) in real life. I could see the magic and wonder in her eyes. :cloud9: Ahhhhhhh!!! :cloud9: I must have looked like a goofball because I spent the whole show crying. I'm blaming it on the pregnancy hormones!

My favorite part of the trip was eating dinner in the castle at the Royal Table for the first time! I've wanted to do this since I was a little girl. I dressed dd as Cinderella and she was soooo cute! I took a Cinderella movie DVD and had Cinderella surprise her with it. So now she'll always think Cinderella personally delivered her movie. I also decorated our motel room for her. She woke up to glowing princess lights and a pair of Minnie Mouse ears delivered by Tinkerbell. I LOVE thinking up little gifts and ways to make it more magical for her!

As far as exercising goes, I did waaaaay more walking in the park and at Downtown Disney than any pregnant person ever should. I've had to spend mostly all day today in the bed recovering. :rolleyes1

Oh, and new baby got his/her Mickey Bar!!! :mickeybar :mickeybar :mickeybar Yumm!!! :mickeybar :mickeybar :mickeybar

Have a great week!!!

I can justify anything, Heather! See the Minnie thread... :rolleyes1 :teeth:

I meant to mention this yesterday since one of my fellow WISH walkers asked me this awhile back...turns out when I do my one minute runs (w3/r1), I am running at about a 9 mpm pace! Who knew? I only found out yesterday since Chad was running the track with me (and he knows his pace per lap running). He was surprised at how fast I was going doing my running intervals. Of course, I am sore now from taking 2+ weeks off & pushing it yesterday. But it was worth it!

A quick update before work, last night I went out and did 4 miles with a 10:18 pace. There was some sort of brush fire in the area so it was a little smokey as well. I discovered that heat, humidity and smoke are not conducive to a good run. I wound up getting cramps in my side which I am going to guess were from breathing the smoke. However this morning I feel better although I would love to stay in bed a little longer.

I did sign up for Minnie yesterday as well. There were choruses from Lynnda of "good now I can have all the fun with the Wishers while you do the hard work".:lmao: Now I just have to get the hotel booked.

Cecilia - For my Goofy plan, I used Galloway's marathon plan. Every other week, I moved one of the short runs to Friday and did half the distance that was planned for Saturday. It seemed to work for me, especially since I get every other Friday off.

Vic - Like the patio setup although it would just gather dust and pollen at our house. ;) I may need help though getting the image of you wearing a "bro" with lime green nose hair out of my mind. :rotfl:

Time to get to work now...

Bill

I must have looked like a goofball because I spent the whole show crying. I'm blaming it on the pregnancy hormones!
Dena - I always cry at the castle shows, and I've never been pregnant, so I can't blame it on hormones. I just blame it on the Disney magic!

Judy - I just noticed this morning that when DD printed out the Donald medal picture to tape on the treadmill, she used the one from your sig, so I get to run with you every time I use the TM! I looked down and saw "Judy" staring up and me and laughed, so when I got tired and frustrated I started talking to you (never mind that we've never met and the dog thought I was crazy...)

I made it 40 mins on the TM this morning, despite everything in the world being against me. Couldn't get the Garmin to work as a stopwatch, MP3 player quit during the 1st song (DH bought me a Zen Micro last year, only DD has the Nano!), shoe came untied at 29th minute, but I still finished the run!

Jackie

Well, yesterday I managed to get 3 miles in on the TM after the kiddos went to bed. And I remember now, why I avoid my home TM like the plague. The belt slips and mph changes--Oh well, today I get to rest. But have to get some more training in at the pharmacy, so the resting is only from training! Have a great day all!

Wow Lilo--another pregnant WISHer....I must have spent the fall in a vacuum. Congrats on your pregnancy! I about killed myself in MK on Saturday...requiring an ECV on Sunday for AK.:guilty:

Wow, thanks everyone for all the ideas on training plans. I like the idea of only doing back to back runs every other weekend! And I am definately going to find some serious crosstraining to work in there as well. My running buddies will get a kick out of this suggestion since they have a joke about my idea of crosstraining. :rolleyes1

Oh and pregnant wishers let me just say this: Way to go!!!:cheer2:
I was one of those sit on the couch and eat ice cream by the carton kind of pregnant women. I gained 9 pounds every time I saw the Dr - even if I had only been there the day before. If you had mentioned exercise to me I would have laughed in your face! So Good For You for planning ahead. You will be happier for it I promise! (and skinnier too)

Cecilia - You and me both. Through all 3 of my pregnancies I thought that was the perfect excuse not to excersize anymore. I weighed 125 when I got pregnant with my oldest and weighed 206 when I delivered. I was 145 with my second and weighed 170 at 24 wks when he was born still. And weighed 150 with my third and weighed 209 when he was born. Thank goodness I am done having kids. I don't think I could lose that much weight all over again.

Dana

Mel/Lily - Thansk for the clarification. I rad that about 5 times yesterday and could not figure it out. My brain is so slow lately that I just thought I had lost it for sure. :rotfl2:

Heather - DId Kecvin stay dry last night? I'm rembering Scott whenwe moved the tub into the bathroom. He hit a valve (bought extra nice ones that nonly bneeded a 1/4 turn to turn on.) on got showered.

Kristi - Congrrats on 10o0 posts!!!

DeeKayPee - Can I call you DKP? Cool that dh is supporting you!!!!

Hunter - Post whatever you want. MAny of us post dailiy when we can, but whatever you want to share or whenever you need help. Whatever works for you.

Towels? Great idea!!!! Or, how about sponges for the races? (Probably kind of hard to print)

Training Question:
Scott really wants to do Detroit end of October. We couldn;t make ourselve do alocal half last year, but now he wants to do the Detroit full. Ho knows. It does go over teh bridge to Canada and back through the tunnel (or vice versa). It's October 28. It's 11 weeks before WDW. He thinks that if we do a r/w, we can revocer, do some 10-milers inbetween and be ok to run WDW. Now, our muscles wer almost fully recovered by Wednesday with the r/w we did this year adn we would not be walkign the parks every day like we did this year, so injries could recover too. What do people think? Is it do-able? Any thoughts of what we should do btwn races?

I'm curious to hear responses to this too. I'm considering doing the Rochester Marathon because it's local. It would be on September 17th, but I wonder if I could recover in time for the Disney Full in January.

Dave and Carrie - Hal higdon has plans for that! I can't remember exactly how they shake out, but you can find them on his site. I jused those (sortof) when i was doing one a month last year.

Krista - That is so funny that you have been watching your post count. I have too. I like the way you celebrated 1000!

Scott, Carrie and Dave,

I say go for it. :cool1:

I ran Chicago Marathon on October 22nd and then took about 2 weeks off, ran a half marathon on December 9th and then my 10/20 back to back the next weekend in preparation for Goofy. Goofy was alright, considering the weather we had. I know I could have done much better based on my strong last back to back long runs. In any event, it is definitely doable.

That being said, I am in burn-out mode now. Only ran 3 miles since Goofy, but I will get back at it, the desire is starting to return as I type this...I think I need to sign up for another marathon soon..:rotfl:

I am sure I will be running another one in October or November before Disney.

Colleen

Wow! This thread does move really fast! I am going to do my best to keep up. Forgive me if it takes me a while to sort out who's who. I had no idea there were so many of you (I guess I should make that us!).

I did do my 30 minutes of running on the TM last night. Just over two miles, so I have a long way to go. Hey, at least there's plenty of room for improvement!

Today I'm going to do 30 minutes of cross training on the exercise bike. I also decided to bite the bullet and start doing WW now. I'm not going to meetings, but I am counting points and writing down everything I eat. What an eye-opener!

Tomorrow is my "rest" day, so I was thinking of going for a slow 30 minute walk on the TM. Is this a bad idea? I have an issue with getting back on the TM on Thursday, so I thought if I got on it on Wednesday, maybe that would do the trick. Plus, I really don't walk anywhere unless I'm on the TM. It's too cold for me outside, and I sit at a computer all day for work. I thought I read that you could walk every day, you don't need to rest from that? I'm thinking it's being a complete potato that is making it hard for me to get moving the next day?

I promised dh I'm going to do the Harpoon 5-mile with him in May. This means I have to get outside at some point...

Thanks so much to everyone for all the warm welcomes! I am really excited to be here, and this thread is so dynamic, I know it's just what I needed!

Kristi -- 1,000 posts is amazing!

Cecilia & Dana -- My doctor used to beg me to just walk around the block when I was pregnant, and it just wasn't happening. I was perfectly happy on the couch with the KFC. My ds will be nine next Monday. I seem to have gained the pregnancy weight back w/out the pregnancy...I seem to firm up in spite of myself when I run, which is one reason I'm determined to have a goal and reach it!

Pregnant Wishers -- You rock! So glad you can focus on your health at this special time!

Jackie -- You are the energizer bunny! With everything that went wrong, you still finished your run. Now that's focusing on the big picture!

Steve -- I am very guilty of being chatty. I just feel like I have so much to learn, and I really need to connect with people who know what they are doing. Thanks for your patience!

Maria

Colleen - do you have a bike? I say do some really fun cross training to give your spirit a rest from running! I wish there was a bike smilie!!

Carrie and Dave,

I have done what you are talking about. My first marathon ever was October 23, 2005 and I was fully recovered and ready for my first Goofy in January 2006. Then I did a third marathon about 3 months after Goofy 2006. Remember your walk breaks on the early marathon, don't go too intense (speedwork) or too long (time or distance) during your recovery period from the early marathon (probably 2-3 weeks).

Paul

Maria - I'd be interested to know what this Harpoon 5 miler is also.

I also found out that Manchester is bringing back the marathon this year. It also includes a 1/2. I think it is October 4th. I was thinking about doing the 1/2, but I will have just completed the VT50 bike ride the weekend before and I'm not sure if I would be able to run.
