Wk of Jan 21--WISH Walking/Running Club

Good afternoon TEAM!!!

Wow it is going to take my entire lunch to catch up on the thread.

Where can I find a lime green sports bra....I want one..

I am joinning the gym tonight, the weather here is terrible and it is so hard to get out for a walk. I am only joinning by the month as once the weather gets better I would rather walk outside and I have everything at home a gym can offer except the treadmill and just can't justify spending over $2000 for a good one.

Any idea what % registration is for the Mickey and Donald?? DH and I still have not decided which one to do but want to make sure we don't miss out.

Kim

OK, I did a 40 min SWOG over lunch. Whew, I'm tired now.

Krista- Thanks for the info on hotels for the Flying Pig. I think I will look a little further north, but I can't say I feel a real urgency to book quite yet.

Dave - Isn't it freezing up there? :cold: It's miserable here. And you still went out at lunchtime?? :worship:

Yeah, it's pretty gross here too, but I did a deep water run in the pool. I wasn't outside on the roads. Of course, I did have a 10 min walk over to the gym that wasn't very nice. I had to get all my winter gear on for that. Sometimes that's the hardest part of my workout, just getting to the gym. But once I was there it felt good.

Oh right, SWOG...I forgot that was in the pool. :upsidedow Well, kudos for you anyway for braving it on the way to the pool! :thumbsup2

BTW - Krista & Stev - There's a year-round campground in Cinci, around exit 10 on 75. Is that any good? Would my parents be safe there for a night?

Exit 10??? :scared:  :scared:

I'm thinking that's the Galbraith Rd. exit. That area (exits 10-13,) are kind of funny, right on the border of scariness. Chances are, they would be okay, but I'd rather not take that chance, especially at night, if you know what I mean!

I actually grew up living off exit 12 (Lockland) and the area was okay then, but I think it's getting a little shady. Hines goes to obedience school in that area, and nothing has ever happened to us, but I refuse to take him to school by myself. It's kind of a judgement call, but to me, the further north you can go, the better!!

Thanks Krista! That's what I was afraid of.

Kim - LG Sports bras are at Target. As for filling up, the website says tehy fill up about August 1. (I know it was more like mid aug, early sept last year, but I would not bank on that for this year) Goofy is limited to about 3000 runners (or was last year), so that will fill up much more quickly. SO, why haven't you signed up yet?

Just haven't decided which one to do Donald or Mickey. I was hoping to give it till after the Minnie to see how I feel and decide then just didn't want to miss out. I had this crazy notion of being able to do the Goofy but that was just crazy.....So which to do which to do.

Kim

What are you doing now Kim? If you're doing anything, youare ahead of dh and I for our first year, where we started in March. (Our plan made for a very intense year, though.)

Kim, I started just about this time last year with walking 2 miles, and I was able to do the full. I hadn't exercised at all for about 7-8 years before I started walking in January 06.

But Kim, what Dave failed to mention is that he is a natural running machine.

Just look at his time!

:woohoo:

::yes:: (Not hat he didn't have to work hard)

I encouraged several people last year adn tehy started hard and endedup injuered by marathon time. Trying to push a little less this year. ;)

DH hnd I started with the first 8 wks of teh walk/run teh half program in MfM, tehn moved to teh first 8 weeks of r/w teh half, then run teh half, tehn run the full. This worked, but took a lot of dedication.

Have you read/gotten Marathoning for Mortals yet? This has some good info to help you decide.

Wow, that is a amazing time Dave I don't think I could drive 26.2 miles in 5 hours....lol

Carrie, that is awesome, you must be in great shape.

Dh and I have been walking regularly for about a year, I was diagnosed with high choesteral and trigyclerides and it scared the life out of me so we got our butts off the couch and started walking, about 5K per night. No running yet. I lost 30 pds last year but still have about 30 to lose, I am hoping to get rid of that before the Minnie or at least a good portion of it......14 weeks tomorrow....but who is counting.... Dh and I are willing to put everything we have into training and my kids are 17 and 14 so we don't have to worry about babysitters, they are also glad we are out of the house....:rotfl: :lmao: I would love that Mickey Medal to go with my Minnie I am hoping to get in May....but I keep questioning if I can do it.

Kim

Well, I made the trek to Target and saw some lime green sports bras, but they were not on sale. Bummer... guess I'll wait a couple weeks. ;) On the other hand, I did find (and buy) a sports arm band for my LIME GREEN nano (that sweet DH got me for Christmas), and some nifty earphone clips that will hopefully stay on my ears while I waddle around. Yea!!! :music:

Kim - Yea for joining the gym tonight! :yay:

oh, and a tip for Steve - if you tuck your heart rate monitor under the bottom band of your sports bra, it usually doesn't slide around. :thumbsup2 Makes you want to wear one now, huh??? :lmao:

More laundry awaits so I'll check back later. Hope everyone is having a great day!!!

Baaaaah, what I really failed to mention, and lots of my friends here know, is that I ended up injured too. I got severe shin splints at the beginning of June and had to take 8 weeks to recover with no running at all. I did solely aqua jogging in the pool (hence the SWOGging) for those 8 weeks. I was really worried about my legs not holding up for the marathon training, but I got through it. I'm hoping it will be easier this next go around now that I have a good base.

But thanks for the compliment anyway Judy. You're sweet.

What's going on with that surgery for you anyway? Are you doing it? Or did you decide that you've already made it this far...

Hi all!

Just checking in. Does anybody remember who posted about a program called Couch to 5k in Two Months? Anyway - a big thanks to whoever it was! What a great way to build back your base. I highly recommend it for anyone who needs to get back in running shape.

I am hitting the gym two times a day on M,W,F and once on T,Th and Su. Until I start long runs again I am off on Saturdays. I am doing two a days so that I can do 30 minutes of cardio in the morning and then I can do strength stuff in the evenings. So far getting up at 5:00 AM hasn't been too bad.

I hope everyone is having a good day. Talk to you soon!

Twelve pages and its only Tuesday. Woohoo!!

What? No bra talk, or did I miss it? What's up with that?

Blueroses, Steve and Bill - Thanks for the compliments on the gym. It's not much, but I can't stand going to the gym, so I had to fix up something at home. And Bill, the equipment is currently covered by a nice layer of pollen. :rotfl: It will get cleaned this weekend.

Judy - I rode and drove the day I did the RPDE. I want to do it again, but this time at Daytona. :)

Well, I signed up for the Seaside 1/2 marathon (Seaside, FL) on 03/04. I guess I better get after it as I plan on running it under 3 hours.
