Wk of Jan 21--WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi Everyone -

Well, I did it. I registered for Goofy. :scared1:  :scared: When I went on today and saw that it was over 60% full, I decided I needed to go ahead and commit. So why am I feeling so sick to my stomach? I wasn't feeling this bad when I commited to running a marathon even thought the farthest I had ever run was 6 miles. I keep telling myself "you don't have to run the whole thing" but I am still shaky and terrified. :scared1:  :scared: I hope this feeling goes away or its going to be a long year. :scared1:  :scared:

Cecilia

Way to go Cecilia!!!

Melissa - If I was thoughtful and caring, I may have noticed earlier. :p

Stephanie - Se ehwat I mean. That is sone tough existence!

Hi!

I am brand new -- I've run a little here and there (mostly walked), but I've never committed to training or running outside, let alone in a race....until now. DH and I decided to do the Disney Half in '08. He is already a runner (5Ks), and I am excited and a bit nervous.

I've been reading Marathoning for Mortals, and I've started the training plan to run the Half Marathon...3 times. I'm great at Monday and Tuesday and the day off, then on Thursday I just don't seem to get back on our treadmill. I know I need to start to get outside, but I'm waiting for it to get warmer. I have about 40 lbs to lose, so going outside is very intimidating for me. Basically, I am full of excuses, but just so fed up with myself I am determined that this is the week.

I found this thread and another one, and reading all the posts have really opened my eyes. We have a ds8, and that doesn't seem to be stopping anyone else from working out. I work full-time, and that doesn't seem to be stopping anyone else, either.

Clearly, this is a "just do it" moment.

I'm so excited that I can come here and read the posts. I think this is just the tool I need to get myself moving to the start line!

Welcome Maria! Stick with us and we'll get you there! Many of us realy like teh Marathoning for Mortals book (and training plans). I highly recommend tha tyou make that your next step. Good luck and keep us posted!

Maria--Welcome and yes, "Just Do It!":thumbsup2 THis is agreat bunch of people; great inspiration for me!

blueroses--Yeah, sometimes I feel like I'm toting everything but the kitchen sink with me on LR--got Amphipod with full waterbottle and Shot Bloks, iPod shuffle, Garmin, and car key--and if I'm jogging alone, my cellphone. Seems like I'm a burden to technology!!!;)

cecilia--Congrats on going Goofy!!

Vic-- Like I said, I picked Jeff Gordon with absolutely no knowledge of Nascar, but once I saw the special I though, "wow, he's awfully cute". I don't suppose that was part of your criteria of chosing favorites:rotfl2:

Hey, Sunny, it works for me! :thumbsup2

Actually we are all about Tony Stewart in our house. Wanna know how that came about? Charlie drove the #20 car at the RPDE. I think that's just as vital a criteria, don't you?

:rotfl:

Cecilia - Way to go for signing up for Goofy! Good luck with your training! :cheer2:

Maria - Welcome! I'm brand new here, too. These are some of the nicest folks around. Just reading the threads has been really motivating for me - I hope it will be for you, too! :)

:welcome: Maria This is a great group, and you are now part of the WISH racing team. The key is to just put the steps in. You don't have to go fast and you don't have to look good doing it, but you just have to put in the steps. You have plenty of time to train and get ready for January 2008.

Cecilia- Hooray for registering for Goofy! :yay: We can do this! Don't forget to add Sunny's cool Goofy 08 graphic to your signature.

Matt- Keep us informed about your deployment status. We will miss you when you are deployed, but we are grateful to you and Cheryl for your service to our country. Thank you.

No training to report for me. Still doing well on WW. My pants are even a little loose today. :woohoo: I am going to try to get in a run tonight. Time to try out my new running shoes, CW-X capris, and lime green running bra. Somebody warn the neighbors!

Cecilia - You can do it!!!! :cheer2:

Maria - :welcome:

So, I like haven't been posting, since I, well....have done absolutely NOTHING since the Half! :scared1: I am not worthy. BUT, we did make a ressie for babysitting at the YMCA for 4pm - so we have to go so something. I was going to do some bike, but I think I'd rather do a few miles on the track and see how that goes.

Off to reprogram the mp3 player with some new tunes...

YAY, Cecilia! :woohoo:

Maria -- :welcome: So glad to see you here.

Heather -- I bet you'll look great! As I told you at the Illuminations Dessert Party ( :rotfl: ), you look so slim and fit! Nothing to worry about vis a vis the neighbors!

Geez, I am really feeling left out since I've been a slug since Saturday morning. I really do want to get out to train, I promise! Hopefully I'll have something to report really soon.

Oh, and when I do a LR (LW), I usually have my cell phone, power bar, sport beans, water bottle, chapstick & often, my camera. I have been considering looking for a running "backpack". :lmao:

ETA: forgot to mention I also take my ipod shuffle (outside) or my ipod video (TM).

:welcome: Maria You don't have to go fast and you don't have to look good doing it

Oh Heather, I have to disagree with you on that. Oh honey, we HAVE to look good! I mean, otherwise, what's the point?!?! :confused3

:rotfl:

Hi Krista: I did Hal Higdon's novice plan for the DL half - I definitely wasn't a novice but I'd lost interest in running after the full and so felt I needed structure, and in my frame of mind at that point the intermediate plan looked 'too hard'. It got me round with no pain etc but I was pretty slow even for me. And I did feel mentally undertrained compared the normal amount of running I would do for a half. If used an official plan for a half again, I'd probably go intermediate.

Am now walking around the house with just one trainer on to protect my heel against 'floor banging'. It's too hot to wear both (about 80 outside, mind you compared to Aus, this is chilly!) and because my balance is already off, it's easier to walk on tip toe to keep all weight off my heel. I will beat this blooming thing in 2-3 weeks not 2-3 months!!! It's a public holiday here this weekend and I'm considering going away so I don't feel obliged to exercise at all which would mean complete rest for a week, even though there's no weight bearing on the bike I'm still thinking 'what if that's upsetting it'. Am now getting paranoid!!!!

Cam: we are only on episode two of series one of heroes so I am most jealous. Although I went to bed last night before it started (bearing it mind it begins at 9.30pm that's a little tragic!) and so will watch it at lunchtime. Which means I spose I'd better go do some work..... Helen

Oh Heather, I have to disagree with you on that. Oh honey, we HAVE to look good! I mean, otherwise, what's the point?!?! :confused3 :rotfl:

I guess that means I'm going to be excused from the team, as the member with the biggest fashion faux paux (sp?) of teh weekend. :(
I just use this as motivation to keep my eating inline, though!

Hello hello everyone! Hope everyone's post race recovery is going well.

We just spent the weekend camping at Disney...yep--got a workout in...about killed myself on Saturday. I am too slow and too---off balance to keep up with anyone and my sacrum was screaming. Yesterday I bit the bullet and rented a scooter--sacrum didn't like the sitting thing so much either..but at least I could keep up with everyone in the group and was in a lot less pain than Saturday.

And at 31 weeks preggo the day AFTER I rent a scooter b/c the idea of walkiing through Animal Kingdom was tooo daunting.....

someone had to post that the goofy was 60% full....so like goofy on crack...I registered!!!! I registered hubby for the full too. Now I am all official. Now all I have to do is have a baby, do a little post partum recovery and then train to train to train. And Goofy is only 11 months 3 weeks away....

And Maria--WELCOME!!!!
I have completed the full (with flu) and the half (post knee surgery)--so if anyone can do it!!!!!! YOU CAN DO IT too!!!!! I wasn't running at all when I decided to do the full marathon in 2005.

Oh--then there is that little baby thing going on right now and I just registered for the ...*gulp* Goofy. :rolleyes1

Blueroses: My stuff--formerly it was a pack that carried water and gels (if approrpiate), ear muffs if it was cold (the pain is excrutiating if I don't), clothing plus peeling layers if needed. My latest addition will be my teeny ipod. But I won't give that a test run until about April or so.:woohoo:

Wow! I was getting up the nerve to ask what you needed to do to become part of the WISH racing team. It sounds like something you have to work up to. I'm feeling empowered already. :cool1:

I'm gearing up to do WW. I bought some foods I know are low in points, I just haven't started counting daily yet. I'm trying to get going with the running, then I'll add the very careful tracking of my points. I am going to run on the TM when I get home for 30 minutes. I got one of those bras from Target in colonial blue. Think how cute we will look in our bright colors!

Maria - Ummmm, in case you haven't noticed, by posting here, you're now on the team. Just try to get rid of us! You can run (or walk), but you can't hide!!! :rotfl2:

Hey, did y'all get these brightly-colored bras in the sportwear section of Target? I saw them, but didn't try them on because I was afraid they wouldn't hold everything in and secure (TMI, perhaps?). Should I go back and give it a try?

Ok, a serious question. The Capitol 10K here in Austin is being held on March 25. DH and I are thinking of participating - ideally we'd like to walk/jog it. Do we have enough time to work up to 6.2 miles? We've been doing our walking program for 3 full weeks now, and we're both feeling pretty good so far. I just don't want to push too hard, too fast.

Warning everyone: I just have time for a quick training update. I did 4 miles outside over lunch in 38:32 min. I didn't feel like gearing up to get out in the 20 degree weather and snow, but I forced myself to get out there and had a good run.

Keep up the good work everyone. I'm reading, but don't have a lot of time right now to post.

Hi WISH Team!

Wow! for page 5 already. I've read, but cannot possibly respond the way I really want to just now.

Ceciia, congrats! You WILL do it. Look at me, if I can you can.

Carrie I mean Mel, if you are interested in hooking that paragraph that would be great. I'm glad I could spark a few folks into joining in the posting for the time of our lives! It really does make this whole training thing much more meaningful.

Jim, I know you get this coming from DIS cruisers.

With that in mind, Welcome to all the new brave posters! Don't worry we'll get you there--wherever there is! And, you'll all help us in getting there too!

I had a busy weekend and didn't get any steps in, but according to Anne's post about taking 6 + 3 = 9 weeks off if you're old--I figure I won't be doing anything for a lonnnngggg time. :rotfl: wth if I go slowwwww (as I do) I don't think there's too much harm.

Speaking of slow, Kristi, please be careful with your training plan. That intermediate might be tempting, but remember yourITband problem. Don't over press so you disable all you are trying to gain.

Someone said TM is boring, yup! Someone said TM is loud, yup! Mine too. DH is such a sweatheart. He's got me connected via headphones to TV so I can watch movies and TM and have the volume of the TV feed only to my headphones so I don't drown out everyone in our house cuz I can't hear it over the noisy TM.

I've got $.02 about the training time and being a Mom/wife/full time employeee. Maybe I'll share later.

Judy, you mean our "free" sport and all our WISH Team wear don't ya? Maria, you of course will want to get a few WISH items too. It is addicting.

As I've said before. I always am on my trek with my "stuff;" waist pack, cell phone, camera, water belt, Gramin, Shuffle oooh now a Nano that I JUST got. I practice traveling the stuff even if I don't always need it. The speedy runners always laugh when they see me coming, because they often can't miss my WISH shirt, WISH socks; lime greeen spewing all about.
:scared1: So fashionista that!
:cutie:
Don't worry about being outside Maria, most of the folks out there putting in those steps understand and are pleased to see anyone trying. Once you get going, you'll see it will be just fine. And for the ones who do mind, well we just don't seem to worry about them. :snooty:

Wow! This is the first sports team I've ever been on in my life! I was completely non-athletic as a kid. I am getting so excited, I'm laughing at myself.
