Wk of Feb 4--WISH Walking/Running Club

Dena - My gosh - that is the most complete reply to one of our threads I think I have ever seen! Amazing. And, my best 5K time was around 39 minutes while I was training for the 06 WDW Half so I have a ways to go but I am trying hard. I was disappointed with my time for the half which was a bit over 3 hours so I want to get faster for the full. 5.5 hours would be so awesome.

Dena! I concur! That was an amazing post! :worship:

Walking for Dummies is OK, but having read Marathoning for Mortals first, well, I think MfM is the best. WfD hasn't really told me anything I don't already know. :confused3

Yeah, my DH is wonderful - the best really - but he excels at EV-ER-Y-THING and it makes me nuts sometimes! He does nothing halfway. I give him credit for that, but once, just once, I'd like to out play or out run or out anything him!

If DH excels so much, you should challenge him to doing his weekend chores as well as yours so that you can get more time to relax/train. ;) :lmao:

Wow Dena, I agree WTG on the replies! I'm better but still really congested. Thanks for asking!

Jen-I cannot believe how cold it is there :scared1: I'm sick of our highs when they are in the high 30's much less 30 below! Keep warm girl:beach:

Still not much to report on the training front. But at least I've gotten back to watching what I eat. At least that's a step in the right direction. This crud has me exhausted all the time. Planning on hitting the gym by Thur. I should be better by then.

Maria- yep, unfortunately training for a 1/2 marathon does not make the weight magically fall off ( I so WISH that were true) it's easy to say, well I ran XX miles so I can eat whatever I want. Just keep at it, you are doing great!

Mel-good luck!!!

Off to get the kiddos from school. I'm sure by the time I get back there will be 4 more pages to catch up on.

Carrie-I got your email on the shirt. Thanks for doing this, Paypal you tonight.

Bill

You know, Bill, he certainly does his fair share. :thumbsup2 I can't complain. He doesn't help me all that much with my two horses, but then again, I'm not much of a help with his four kids. :rotfl:

Dena - Is Anytime Fitness the one that just opened up on A1A/200 ? If so that is really close to my house. I have been tempted to drive up there and check it out. Do they have a kids club?

As far as the bikini body.... well.... let's just say it is definately a work in progress!! ;)

Dana

Hi everyone, I am home now. My company closed at 2:00 due to the snow. The snow is coming down SO fast, we have about 4-5 inches and it is still coming. I spend about 45 minutes shoveling our driveway and sidewalk (Stephen isn't home yet) and it doesn't look like either has been touched. :sad2: It is pretty though.

Hey everyone. I have been really quiet because I am being overcome with work stress and extreme guilt that I have not run in 1 1/2 weeks. And the sad thing is that I really don't have the motivation to run... party from the extreme cold, my stuffy head cold and all the stress I am under. Well, my head cold is going away, but the other 2 factors still exist.

BUTTTT... I had to come share my new V-day gift. DH (Paul117) found a steal of a deal on a Garmin 301. I HAVE A GARMIN NOW. Yes it's an older model, but the price was unbelieveable. The worst part is that the temps are still in the negatives that I don't even get to try the little baby out. DH used it in the car today and he said he was driving 1.5 minute miles or something like that. I can't wait to run outside...

MelC - GOOD LUCK ON YOUR TEST!!!!!

Oh, gotta run. I will try to check in later. When I am down, the WISHers are always my clown!!! :hippie:

Hi friends!

Shoveling was my x-train today, too! They were calling for 4" - 6 " of snow, but I think we only got about 3 - 4. Whew! The roads are still a mess!
My little man was home today with a fever, too.

Mel--did I read it correctly that you are/were a PA? I'm a PA as well! I used to do family practice and then occupational health for a major airline. Nowadays I chase boys for a living.;) Good luck on your upcoming exam.

Dena--I can't even try to make as complete a post as you! How long did that take??!!

Stay warm and train well!

VICKI :)

Mel - Darcey and I send out our Good Luck :cheer2: shout outs for you and your test tomorrow....don't envy you!
TigerLily - Even the phrase spinal arthritis sounds painful as H-E-Double Hockey Sticks! Hope everything pans out for you!
Hockeychic - Keep up your hard work, you'll do it!

I see that there are quite a bit of us WISHers in this snowbelt right now. It stopped snowing here earlier, but its going at it again :sad2: ....I think we have 4inches so far. Stayed inside to cross train on our recumbent bike for 25min. The bike path I use for my training walks/runs does not cleared off for a few days after a snow, so I will have to find an alternate plan, just not today.

Good Evening WISH team members!!!!

Well, I ended up staying home today from work to rest, because I was still feeling sick. After resting all day, I had a little bit of energy, so I decided to head to the gym for my first workout since last Thursday. Today was the first day of following the Hal Higdon Half marathon training plan....it called for 3 miles, but I only did 2.11 miles on the TM. I was just too tired to do anymore, and I didn't want to push it too much. At any rate, I did my 2.11 miles in 21:45....which is a bit slower than my normal pace but I will take it!!!!

A question for all of you: is the information on the treadmill accurate? The reason I ask is that there was a difference between my Nike+ system and the TM. When I run outside, the trail I run on is marked every .1 of a mile, and my Nike+ system is always right on with that. But, today, my Nike+ system was not in sync with the TM, so I was wondering if the Nike+ doesn't work as well on the TM or if the TM may not be exactly right. Does anybody know???

Happy training to all!!

When I am down, the WISHers are always my clown!!! :hippie:
:clown: Don't be too hard on yourself, Jen. You've been really busy with all this traveling. And we all go through times where training goes out the window. Just be sure to get back on it, ok?

So, my nap turned into 4+ hours. The Y is out now. :sad2: I will just bump training down and have this be my rest day then. I really didn't mean to sleep so long. :confused3

Pink was awesome last night! Chad & I both didn't expect to enjoy her show that much. I can't wait to see her open for Justin Timberlake next month!

Speaking of concerts...I got another set of Goo Goo Dolls tickets this morning! :yay: Is dialing a phone for 45 mins considered xt? ;) And 'my boys' are going to be on QVC at 9 tonight. I might just have to stay up to see them.

Kristi - Thanks for the clown smiley... I was looking for that one!!! Oh and you totally amaze me with all the "free" concerts you go to!

I want to send a BIG "Have Fun Shoveling" to all those getting piled with snow. You get snow and we are still in a deep freeze. It's just too cold to snow here!

Have a great night all. I am itching to try my Garmin, but it may be months before I get outside. That may mean I need to travel to go running!

Dena - Wow!!!! What a post. I did have a beautiful run yesterday!

Mel - Best of luck on your exams!

Sunny - You're back!! Man, that was a great pace for the 3m!!!!

Krista - glad you made it home safely.

Dana- aren't all mommy bodies "works in progress??":rotfl2: :rotfl2:

No running for me today. It was beautiful (56deg) and phil was off work, so we went rock climbing this morning (i didn't climb i just belayed) and then did some orienteering this afternoon. I think we soaked up almost every possible ray of sun!!

Because of all of you in the snow belt and talking about running in 20 degree weather......I ran this morning. :woohoo:

I was laying in bed, it was 42 degress outside, and I figured if you guys can run in 20 degrees I can get my out of bed and run.

I bundled out, Florida style, and had a great run at 5:30 am.

Thanks!!! :rotfl:

Dena - :worship: You make me & Krista look like schmucks! :p (No offense meant Krista!)

Jen - I feel guilty when you are having a hard time and your post still makes me smile. Hang in there!!! :grouphug: Please don't feel guilty adn avoid us, we may be what you need to get going again. (Yes, I need to take my advice to heart and head back to the accountability thread myself.)

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: To all tthose sick or injured or both! :grouphug:

I really owe everyone a marathon catch up post. Maybe this weekend.

Wel,, I did it. I did the walk of ahame into the gym. It would ahve been much easier if teh woman at the gym had just left me alone. Oh no. She tells me how she's been so worried about me all week and felt so terrible adn ihow sore I must have been adn on and on and on. Can't we just forget about it??? DO you not recall how embarrassed you were? Even better. She tells me to set my mp3 and leave it before I get on. Thanks. DO you think I'd be that stupid again?

So, I had a horrible time for teh first 10 minutes (that feel like 10 hours). I was so afraid of falling off. How sad is that? I even had teh sisay clip on. NO ONE in the gym uses that. My knees stung a little but I felt pretty good. ABout 10 minute in, Scott decides to get out hi mp3 and set it to catch Rachel Ray (I can't stand that woman, but she's given Scott many good meal ideas.) Anyway, it takes him about 5 minutes of messing with it to get it. Mind you, his sence of balance and motion is off anyway. he has a hard tiem watching the TVs w/o getting sick. SO he'ss playing with the stupid MP3 and I'm in a panic. I'm sure he's gonna' crash. I'm ready to hit his stop button. Yes, HE was fine, of course, but I still can't eblieve he did that after watching me suffer for a week. Well, I made it. To add insult to injury, though, I forgot I ahd the stupid sisy clip on when I got off the TM and it snapped off and hit the TM and I could hear teh snap over my mp3. Scott just gave me this huge look of disgust. yeah, I am now teh loser of teh gym. bet he starts going without me. :sad2:

On the bright side, it felt good to run again. Plus denny's scar reminder reminded me that I may not be as lucky in the ice and snow this year as I was last year.

OK, We've got over 2 feet of snow. I making a road trip, going to scuba Jim's, taking over his world and shipping him back here!!!!!!

Carrie

I live in Scuba Jim's world and reading your post I am really sorry for all of the times I have complained about the horendous heat down here :scared1:

We started training in August and did many runs after 10pm, but Sunday we did our long run in 60 deg out by the beach.

I am so sorry for you guys up there and you have my deepest respect for continuing your training wherever and however you can.

Mel - Good luck on your test tomorrow. I think it's tomorrow, sorry if I already missed it. I am having a hard time keeping up.

I feel so bad because everyone has been so nice and welcoming and encouraging and this thread is huge. I am having a hard time keeping up with it plus 5 engineering classes and two boys. Wow I'm tired just saying that. :rotfl:

I myself have 3 tests next week so I may fall off the face of the earth into the bottomless pit of studying soon. And the worst part is by the time I get back I will never be able to read all of the posts.

I will do my best

Angie

Carrie,
It's hard to explain, but when I see someone running in this cold weather, I get a chill up my spine, knowing they're only one slip away from having a really bad day.

Keep up the good work. Battling with the TM beating conquering the couch any day.:happytv:

Angie - Sounds like I scared you! ;) Honestly, I cannot take your heat, so I think we're both better in our own worlds. :goodvibes I'll try to remeber teh comparison when I complain that I can't run over 65 oor 70. :upsidedow

Denny - :goodvibes Yeah, I had those chills on the TM today, but you win. Conquering that couch is what it's all about. People keep asking, "You're doing it again???" Yup, it keeps us off the couch. I was told last night that a WDW trip is a very expensive way to get yourself to exercise. I told her that training for a marathon is a very hard way to get to Disney. I think the reward of the trip is justified.

lol. Talked to a client the other day. His friend does not like us. Darn marathoners really screwed up what should have been slow time at Disney. Must have added 100,000 poeple. That man needs to get a life!
