Wk of Feb 4--WISH Walking/Running Club

Good morning TEAM! I'm just sitting here awaiting the dreaded white death. We're supposed to get about 7 inches of snow this afternoon and evening. The drive home is going to be FUN! I'm anticipating around an hour and a half. I work 15 miles from home. On to my training report, I did 3 miles last night, still babying my IT band, so I did w3/r2 and I didn't have any knee pain. I've been getting creative with my intervals as I'm getting bored on the treadmill, so I did 2 minutes at 13:02, 1 minute at 12:45, 2 minutes at 10:54 and over and over. I start training for the Flying Pig on Monday, hoping that my knee holds up when I start "real" training again!

For the record: Stephen and I both do the laundry and we haven't ruined anything yet! :laundy: But I have to admit, I am the self-appointed bleach queen!! princess:

Mike--I hear ya about the well digger's butt cold (by the way, what IS that? :confused3 ), it's 0 here today.

Carrie--I thought of you too when I saw the treadmill commercial during the Super Bowl. :rotfl:

Dave--Your princess: is smart!!! We went Downtown Saturday night and on Paul Brown stadium there was a sign that said "Cincinnati Flying Pig May 6th. Registration Now Open. Come Fly With Us". It made me so excited!! We also drove down Pete Rose Way, where the Finish Line is and I was like this: :goodvibes :woohoo:  :goodvibes

Jim--I run with a techno ball cap in the summer, one from the WDW 2006 1/2 marathon and I also have a Nike hat. I started wearing it because I have super thick hair and my head would be very hot to the touch and soaking wet. When I wear my Nike hat (which I like better than the marathon hat), my hat is wet, but my hair is cool and dry.

Kristi/Abra Cat--Feet gross me out and I would DIE if I lost a toe nail!! I understand your pain! By the way, it's going to be fun around here with 2 Kristi's, 2 Jen's, 2 Christa/Krista's!!

Judy--I had that same thought this morning: this time last month I was so nervous! Oh, and the toe nail loss thing has nothing to do with how you train, after 2 years of runnng I haven't lost one, never even came close. I think I've trained pretty hard for the 2 1/2's and 1 full I've done!! :)

Lisa--Here's some :wizard: for your foot!!

Lynnda--You are amazing!! I hope when I am pregnant I am as healthy and mobile as you are!!

Welcome to all the newbies!!!!!

I feel like such a SLACKER!! I have barely posted since we got back last month, Heck... I have barely even RUN since we got back last month. DH and I have been doing the Couch to 5k off and on, but I can't seem to stay motivated enough to run in this cold. I don't know how you guys up north can do this. Here it's only like 40-50 highs and i am hibernating inside my house. I have come to the decision that I am in desperate need of a treadmill. Fortunately, I haven't quit excersizing. I am using these "SHAP Bikini Body Boot Camp" DVD's and they are REALLY hard, so I have at least been up and moving. If I had a treadmill I would have kept up with the running too. (At least that's my story!!) I hate that I haven't been coming in and chatting with everyone. Looks like I am going to have to make that more of a priority from now on. I am not so sure I would have made it through the full this year if it hadn't been for the motivation that I received from this group during training and during the race. I vow not to allow myself to run and hide anymore.

Hi WISH Team!

I haven't read about everyone in over a week. Sorry about being MIA. Life is just kicking my butt now. I've made a trip to the orthopedic doc and came home yesterday the proud recipient of an epidural to hopefully get me through some painful issues I am having (spinal Arthur-Itis is bearing down on me these days along with a fall on the ice a week ago). I am cleared to do elliptical and swimming as I had planned. I told him I just have to put in the steps. You all know that feeling that you've GOT to be out there. I said that and he smiled with understanding saying that would be ok but to start back in a bit slower.

He really is not a fan of long distances. :confused3

Anyway, I hope to read up on all that is going on and to get to meet the new folks.
:wave2:

just back from the gym:

3.0 miles in 30:13 avg pace 10:04:cool1: TM on 1% the whole time, no hills today.

Sunny

Susan - best of luck with the Couch to 5K program! I feel the same way as you - will I ever get faster? I'm sure if you just keep plugging away with the training you'll get there. I hover somewhere between a 12 - 13 min mile, and on the shorter distances I'd like to aim for a 10 min mile. One day!

I made it out on a run last night - 2.65 mi in 34:46. There was quite a bit of slush to begin with, then some icy patches as it got cooler towards the end of my run, so I felt I was definitely being more cautious. It felt great to run - but that will probably be all I'll get for a few days since it is supposed to get cold starting today.

So - I'm training for the Minnie 15K in May, plus I'm hoping to run the Calgary Half Marathon in July. (And of course I'm signed up for Goofy.) I just got back in to training again after suffering a stress fracture in my right ankle last year. Has anyone ever had any issues with stress fractures? I worry so much about reinjuring it, even though I'm taking it really slow coming back. Every once in awhile I get a phantom pain almost when I think about it too much. Will the mental thing ever sort itself out? I definitely gave it a long time to heal - I didn't run for about 6 months.

Any inputs or advice would be muchly appreciated!

Good afternoon all. I am attemping to catch up with you all.

DJ WTG on getting out there, I find that the hardest part sometimes.

Bill WTG on the 4.8 miles...great pace

Dave 5 Miles in 47.28 that is great. I hear you about the girls and their laundry, DD is 14 and her idea of cleanning her room is throwing everything into the laundry even if I know she hasn't worn it. Or she will try something on and decides it doesn't go with the jeans she is wearing and it goes in the laundry.....

Jackie Did you get on the TM today?? 5:15 is my fav time to work out....DH is gone to work and kids are still sleeping.

Lynnda Wow.....you are awesome.....I loved walking when I was preggers both times but5K....wahooo:worship:

Mike Well diggers butt cold......:lmao:

Carrie Good Luck at the gym, watch those TM's they bite.....Sorry to hear about your toe nail, hope it didn't suffer.

Susan are you running that 2.5 miles...that is amazing....I am happy to job 1 min for every 5...Keep up the great work

Cecilla Thanks for the info. My first weight workout is tonight, I am only going to do upper body right now, Tues and Thursdays. My legs are about my only good feature and I like the way they look. Once my training progresses I plan on adding leg workouts to build strenght.

Texa WTG keep it up.:thumbsup2

Maggie Are you a walker?? How long are your long walks?

Krista Glad to hear no knee pain, makes for a more enjoyable workout.

Lily Sorry to hear about your pain issues, hope you are feeling better soon.

Sunny 3 Miles wahoooooo great pace.

On the laundry note, Dh also does laundry, I should also add he does almost all the cooking as well......yes, I am a very lucky woman, I think I will keep him.

I hope I didn't miss anyone.

Have a great day all

Mel - I'm curious about a previous post asking you about pharmacy school. I thought someone told me at the Pop meet that you are already a pharmacist (and a PA!!). Great time on your run, BTW.

Yep, I am multi-talented (or is it overeducated ;) ) If I don't pass my recert exam tomorrow, the PA thing may be in jeopardy ;) The pharmacy school comment was in reference to a new pharmacy school opening in the area where I've applied to be an adjunct faculty member.

I did 60 min on the TM yesterday. R4/W1 with running intervals from 4.5mph to 5.2mph. Total of 4.57 miles. Still not sure what the max time on my TM is...it rolled to 60:03 yesterday, but I have no desire to spend more time on it to find out :sad2:

Leana and Mel, sorry we must have been posting at the same time.

WTG on the workouts.:thumbsup2

Mel: Good luck on your exam tomorrow

Kim

Kim - If you don't mind my asking, what part of Canada are you in?

Dave, six might be a little young, but my DD was 9 when the folded clothes broke the camels back. I took her down to the W&D and showed her (also posted instructions) how to do it. When I learned neither her nor Dx were measuring the liquid det, I switched to powdered to force them. It's worked out very well, all except the socks. DD is too lazy to sort her socks so she would come in my room and take mine. I caught on so I started hiding my socks. She starting finding them. Then I got real clever and made a "fake" sock drawer with the lousy socks I don't like to wear and hide my "good" socks. She thinks the fake drawer is all I have and now she sorts her own socks. I also have a secret brush, pair of scissors and tape. Oh, and the invariable pieces of cereal that miss the bowel and land on the floor (and don't get picked up)? My solution to that: always wear slippers.

Ah, yes, I know I am in the running for "Mother of the Year Award". :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

OMG, Sunny! YOU ROCK!! :worship:

Carrie - welcome to the freaky-toenail-club!

At some point today, I have to get a 4 miler in. But right now, Chad & Zack are at BK playing with some other kiddos. So, me thinks I am going to sneak a quick nap in while I can!

Since we are going to be confused with Kristis around here - I can be "Kristi Red." My best friend is a 'Kristi' also, and that's what I am referred to in those circles (for obvious, red-headed reasons).

Well, not much to report from my end. Taking another rest day--this will be the 3rd in a row--going to try and do an easy 3 miles tomorrow to test out my ankle.

Mel--Good luck with your exam. My dad tried to convince me to apply for a teaching position at the pharmacy school here--dealing with Nuclear Pharmacy--but I spent enough time there during school, don't really have a desire to go back!;)

WTG on all the WISHer's training! You guys rock!!:woohoo:

Maggie Are you a walker?? How long are your long walks?

Have a great day all

Yep, I am a walker. I just started back again. Last year this time, I was a walker that got overly excited decided to be a runner, injured myself and sat on my butt during recovery.

I learned alot. Slow and steady.. etc.. I also learned that I don't like running, but I REALLY like walking.

I am using a training plan I found on thewalkingsite.com. I am walking 3days/wk for 3-4 miles each. yoga 2/wk, and resting 2 days week. I will use the half marathon plan for beginners once I start training for the chicago distance classic. It will be my first half.

You are a walker too, right?
Maggie

Mel- Good luck on the exam tomorrow! You go girl!

Wow, I need to quit my job just to keep up with this group. There's no moss growing under you.:thumbsup2

I've started back into my training routine. I've built my base up to where I'm getting in about 20 miles a week, running 5 at a time. This weekend, I'm going to start with LRs. It's all been TM running, but I haven't been real lucky running outside in Ohio winters. (and I have the scar to prove it.) DW has even started in preperation for the Donald, and she is doing a R3/W3 for 30 minutes, or as much as 3.1 miles at a time.

Keep up the great work everyone! It's so motivating.

Maggie, yes I am mainly a walker but trying to get some jogging in there. Not sure if I will ever be a runner, I use to be but getting a little long in the tooth.....(a nice way of saying I am getting old):lmao: I am worried about keeping pace if I only walk, but alot of people seem to have been able to do it. Last night I walked at 3.8 - 4.2 mph and that felt really fast and that is just around sweep pace so I have to pick it up. Thanks for the website.

Kim

I agree with Dennyha, how on earth can I stay with you folks?!

I'm just going to try to wade in and post, still trying to remember names, etc.

I did my 30 min. run yesterday, so I'm officially into week three. Woohoo! Yesterday I felt kind of sluggish, but that will pass, I'm sure. Today I'll be doing half an hour on the exercise bike. I'm leaving work a few hours early, so no excuse not to jump on when I get home. I'm sure I'll be glad when I'm done.

Rats! I have just experienced the teeniest amount of weight loss and toning. Looks like I'm going to have to face reality and monitor my eating. I was sort of hoping pounds would magically fly away if I stepped on the TM. :rotfl:

I'm down to much less snacking and eating a bit better, and on the bright side, like my running, there's plenty of room for improvement! :rotfl2:

Dennyha -- I am much slower than you, but I'm also on the TM until the deep freeze goes away. We're looking at a high of 15 today :upsidedow

Maggie -- You should be happy you have your identity. I am a walker who crosses her fingers she can become a runner...walking is excellent exercise, and I would love to be able to walk a Half (yep, I have a looong way to go).

Sunny -- You are my idol, you certainly win "Clever Mother of the Year!" You are also flying! Awesome pace!

KristiRed -- I hope you had a glorious nap!

Dana -- How's that bikini body coming? That sounds plenty hard to me!

Kim -- When I walk I'm very comfortable in your range, and I glow...I bet you are getting a good workout!

Maria

Good Afternoon Teamies!

Thanks for all the SWEET and KIND words about our baby! :cloud9: You guys are the best! :grouphug:

Do you know how many hidden mickeys there were in my bowl of Cheerios this morning?!?! WOW!

I just finished reading Kingdom Keepers (about Disney World after dark) so my brain is stuck in the World. Anyone else read it? It’s kinda hokey, but all the details about WDW are so much fun! I read it at night so I’ve been dreaming of Disney all week!

I just got back from another 1.6 miles!! One of the neighborhood dogs named Moose escorted us the whole way. It gave dd something to look and laugh at. He really helped the time fly.

Chimera- Hooray for Ms. McQueen! Zoooom!! Great 10 miles and super great 5 mile split!!! I’m so proud of you! I'm sure you'll do just as great on your exam tomorrow!

Aladdinsgirl- Sounds like it’s gonna be a fun drive home! Whew! Very creative intervals you did there. I’m glad you didn’t have any pain.

TigerLily03- We’ve missed you. Ugh! An epidural. Wow, those are no fun. I had to have one for a blood patch to fix a wet spinal tap after dd was born. It hurt!!! I hope you get all better.

Andromedaslove- yeah, where have you been?! Instead of a treadmill you could always enroll at Anytime Fitness like I did. We still haven’t gone since September and we’re paying for it EVERY month. Sheesh! Glad to see you back!

RedDragon- How are your Minnie training runs going?

Jam217- Welcome to our team! Congrats on your best 10K race!

NYcpa- Girl, I don’t know how you get out in sub-zero weather. Amazing. A 16 minute mile is great. It will get you a medal!

Worfiedoodles- You are doing great with your workouts! Just be careful constructing your own. That’s how I lost my motivation last year. I wish I had found someone else’s training plan and stuck with what they said to do. Just stay strong!

Magslite- I can totally relate to the kids whining at your legs while on the comp. That exactly why I decided to try not to let my dd see me on the computer. It was stealing too much of the time I should be giving to her. It’s so HARD! Sounds like you have a great walking plan going! I’m hanging with you during training.

Texa- 2.25 at 15/16mph is great!!! Don’t ever compare yourself anyone else in the race. Just compare yourself to your times. And sometimes you don’t even have to do that- just do it for fun! But you should go check out the 5k and get a feel for the environment and the excitement. They’re so much fun, but can be really nerve racking for a beginner if you’ve never experienced it before. I freaked out my first one and wanted to go home!! But seeing all the people slower than me felt really comforting. So go check it out if you can.

Dennyha- Great to hear from you. You and dw are doing great! Do you run/walk with her? I love spending the time with dh.

Honeibee- How is Fitness Walking for Dummies? I’m looking for a good walking book. I’d probably cry if I worked so hard to do 5 miles and dh hoped on and did 13- a freaking half marathon! You should have pulled the plug! j/k

Cruella de Mom- PD for your foot! Gosh, I remember when my idea of laundry was putting it IN the hamper. I don’t know how my mom lived with me!!

Plutosmyfav- you are sneaky girl!!! Man, I need to start scoping out hiding places. Yeah right, I don’t even know where the scissors and tape are. My dd2 has to find them for me! Haha! Congrats on doing so well with the HH training plan!

Panthergirl- I know NOTHING about a 30 minute 5k. I was doing good to get mine around 40 minutes. But good luck!!!

Wtpclc- ***silence*** for your toenail. It will be missed. It was such a good toenail. Willing to take abuse yet always remaining protective of you. Farewell ye toenail.

Abra Cat- MOM TIME? Is that a joke???

Wfloyd- great run last night! I agree 48 is cool, but don’t tell all our teammates dealing with snow that. I doubt we’d get any sympathy!

Optimator- Let us know how your 5 miles go today.

Crzy4pooh- You’re doing a 5k at 33 weeks are you? Gosh, I want to do one while pregnant so bad. Last year I saw a lady who was VERY pregnant RUN one and the image has stuck in my mind. It was cute, she had a baby on board shirt on. You’ll do great!

Mouse Skywalker- holy smokes! You did 5 miles in 47 minutes!

Hockeygirl- speaking of training, you’d better train that dbf to do laundry before he becomes dh because after that he’ll never change!

Angietuck2- A great big CONGRATS on your best training run ever! You guys are rockin it!

Scuba diver- It has to be close to 50 degrees to run, huh? Now you’re speaking my language.

DJBounce- Great goal to run the whole 5k! That would be awesome! It’s one of my “one day” dreams. Good luck!

Hockeychic- Great job using your new treadmill! Keep all hangers away from it at all cost. Treadmills have a way of magically attracting laundry!

LisalovesPooh- GLASS! Ouch. I bet the pain has been driving you crazy. Not from just the hurting, but the will this end my running? Oh, I can’t imagine. Hope it heals up soon.

Tinks- great run yesterday. 10 minute mile. Spectacular!

MelRhoads- your snow covered trail run sounded beautiful!

Kristi1357- how was Pink??? And now you’re Kristi Red. What’s with you and the colors??? You better watch out or you’ll be added into that separate pink/red laundry load!

Nucpharm29- you are more than welcome to “whine” here at any time, but I wouldn’t call that whining. I was sad to read about your injury too. You have worked so hard! Keep resting it and hopefully it will get better. Ugh! I know it’s so hard for you! *hug*

Littlegreydonkey- Pixie dust for a fast 2-3 weeks. I hope everything heals up nicely for you.

Cdn gal eeyore- Welcome to our team! It’s great to have you join us!

Keenercam- never thought of the ice cream as dairy for recovery! I may have to chase that truck every Sunday!!! I wish… And I’m sorry girl, but the Camsicle comment has stuck in my head. It shall forever be a nickname for you!

CaroleD- how’s your walking going? I’m so intrigued by the dead bug exercise.

Mogulskr- It’s smart to do your long runs on Monday since we dread them anyways. That way you don’t ruin a great weekend! One questions, how do you do any work after wearing yourself out?! I’d need a nap.

TXAng- how are you doing? Did you get a workout in? We’re pulling for you!

Jen117- It sounds like you are freezing! -34 is not even funny. Stay warm!!!

Tiffj- How are you feeling? Sorry you’re sick.

Monte- I would have been so mad about the power outage! Man, I bet everyone was ticked!

Thndrmatt- great back-to-back races. Yeah, I’d say you’ll have no problem with goofy. Tell DW that we’re pulling for her too!!!

JCTigger- Increasing each week by a half a mile sounds great! But remember your body needs you to factor in a rest day for recovery so it can get stronger. So I’d rethink the walking 7 days a week. I’d hate to see you get injured! Best wishes!

Calcio- report to us what 5 races you’re doing this year. I’m gonna hold you to it!!!

Minnie- how’s the new job? Have you started yet?

BigVic, MouseDogMom, Princessmomma, and all you lurkers-

Oh and FYI about the Family Fun 5k on marathon weekend:

My Email Message to Disney:
Hi!
Has there been any report of when registration will open up for the 2008
Family Fun 5k on marathon weekend? I keep checking everyday and I'm
driving myself crazy! LOL!
Thanks so much!

Their Reply:
Dena-
On line registration will open soon.
If you visit the web site and print off the registration form you can
mail it in and register now before the on line version opens up.
Thanks.

Take care of yourselves TEAM! :grouphug:

Hi all - I'm going to start making up running reports so I don't feel so left out. I feel that yesterday, I would have run 6km around the lake in about 38 minutes if life were normal, so lets start there. Foot is still bound, I get to take it off tonight to give me a skin a rest before tomorrow when we strap it again - I'm looking forward to 18 hours of being able to bend it. In fact, I may not sleep, I might just stay up tonight wiggling my toes and things.

Bill: No you didn't miss anything, among other things, I write books for a living but I haven't done one for over a year, this is a new one but they don't give me very long deadlines! I think Cam has one of mine so she can tell you if they make sense or not!!! Helen
