Wk of Feb 10th-- WISH Walking/Running Club

Lara- What is the Mini Marathon in your signature? These old eyes are having a hard time reading it! :lmao: I was so glad to see you proudly sporting a Donald medal in your photo. I know that you were one of the WISH team members who did not get a medal at the finish, and I worried about you all weekend. Yipee for the medal! :thumbsup2

Oh cool! Can we all stand in line for each so that we feel like real Disney Princesses?!!! I guess we have to take turns standing in each others lines....

Definitely! We can have a public relations number people can call to hear where we will be appearing next.... :rotfl: But I do think creating a "spotting guide" could be fun!

Thanks for asking-- and for worrying! How sweet! :) My DH went back to Epcot with me on Sunday and we picked it up. It was a real disappointment on Saturday, but I was so happy to get it the next day! I was worried about finishing and my chip time actually ended up being like 3:29:07!!:lmao:
The Mini Marathon is the Indianapolis 500 Mini Marathon which is a half marathon that includes a lap on the Indy 500 track. The fun part of it for me is that I'm doing it with 5 of my college friends to celebrate turning 40 this year! Thanks for asking!

I had a great workout today, literally kicked butt and took names. It's due to (1) my desire to hang with this group in the weekly training, particularly the one and only Martha, and (2) my wish to stand tall and represent my club well on May 4 when I run the 15K with many of my friends. I so love races between 6 and 13 miles, training means distance and pace, not just "15 this weekend, 16 next weekend, 17 . . ., repeat."

You guys keep motivating me, and I'll keep training and hopefully improving.

Best to everyone. And Cam, tell Howard to forget that dumb homework. Doesn't he know he's allowed to have "last semester-itis?"

Craig

My run this afternoon was one of the toughest I've had in awhile. I'm guessing it was from the 8 miles I ran on Friday? I had to run 3 miles. I got a decent pace in for me - 10:33, but it was like everything was going wrong for me - my legs felt like lead, left knee hurt, allergies acting up, shorts underneath running skirt kept creeping up, kept burping up my salad from lunch and the wind was very intense. So you can say it wasn't so good a run. :rotfl2:

I don't know why my running skirt is no longer working for me. It used to be once I got a little sweat up and going they would stay in place. Not any more! Maybe it is the extra pounds I'm now carrying... :headache: Anyway, it drove me CRAZY. I've tried Bodyglide and it didn't help them stay in place. :confused3

DH is off to see Van Halen tonight. A friend called last minute and off he went. Our anniversary is tomorrow and it ain't looking so romantic. :sad2: He did complete his 11.5 trail run this morning. I was a tad worried cause I didn't think he was totally prepared and he had a cold. I should have known better - he runs half as much as me and yet can pull anything off. Men! He had a good pace, but tripped over a branch around mile 7 and tore up his knee. Hopefully, it will be OK. It is a tad swollen and our half is next month.

Cool! DH and I are doing this too! I hear the medals are awesome! One of DH's co-workers has done this one for several years and says it is a blast! I am really looking forward to it!

Well, working today threw off any chance of getting to the gym. That might have been a good thing, in a way. It forced me to be a bit creative and find another outlet.

So, I did 2 Leslie Sansone tapes -- Walk & Jog and Walk & Kick. I'm not sure I'll do the kickboxing one again since I am not good at avoiding twisting my knees on some of the moves.

When I was first recovering from heart surgery and trying to lose weight, I did her Walk Away the Pounds tapes several times a week. I remember how amazing it was when I graduated to each longer distance, up to three miles. I am thinking that some of these sessions throughout the week might be a good way to be active when I am spending up to 12 or 16 hours at a desk on any given day.

Craig -- you tell him! He might listen to you! He even already has a job for after graduation, so I can only attribute his diligence to an inherently strong work ethic. :lovestruc :worship:

Any New Englanders, or anyone really, interested in doing the Great Bay half in NH on April 6th?

We have 4 (maybe 5) Super Goofs planning on this one - join us!
Steve...come on...you know you want to....Lisa is coming down from Maine...
Craig...?
Martha...?
Maria...?

If I am crazy enough to do this hilly race again, I want to drag as many of you there with me as I can!

I don't know how many of you venture out on the other boards but one of the reasons I love this section of the board and our "team" so much is the absolute caring and kindness of all the individuals :goodvibes

Over the last 4 years soooooo many of you have laughed, cried, encouraged, prodded and supported me and all of the rest of us through so much. If I need encouragement, support, words of advise, or just a laugh to brighten up a crappy day this is the very first place I go :grouphug:

The kind words written today have hopefully brought this "team" closer together once again. I am thankful to be considered part of the "team"!

Best WISHes and HAPPY training to each of you :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

MelR Update - Got an e-mail back from Melissa that she is safe and sound. Her mom was closer to teh tornadoes, but she's fine too. She was very appreciative of our concern.

Admittedly, I am more of a regular poster on the MCM/Philly thread but I was deeply saddened to read of recent controversy on the main thread so I just wanted to chime in with some general sentiments.
I have been a WISH'er since October 2005. At that time I was already a runner and a WDW addict and it was so nice to connect with folks who shared similiar passions. Since day one everyone here has been so welcoming and inspiring to anyone who joins our family no matter where we are in our athletic endeavors or our seasons in life.
I don't post much on this thread anymore due to time constraints and the fact that I don't feel comfortable sporadically posting an "all about me" post when I can't intelligently comment on others posts on the thread. Most of the old-time WISH'ers know me and know where to find me if needed:thumbsup2 . That being said, I would give any of you the shirt off my back and I bet that most other WISH'ers feel the same. Please don't get caught up in the petty issues and take away from the spirit of the WISH team:grouphug: . I have met some of the greatest people due to WISH and I am forever grateful for that. I really don't care what shirts we wear or how we choose to motivate ourselves around here. When all is said and done I will still bleed WISH LIME GREEN whenever I am out there as a competitor as a statement of solidarity with my brothers and sisters who share this journey with me.
Love you guys:love:

Mel - Thanks so much for the update on MelR, Phil and 'the boy.'

 Hi Sara!! Well said and glad you popped over to spread some wisdom on the "dark side" (or is that the other thread???).

Don't think it's me although it took me a few times to decide...

Catching up from last week (and it's only page 4 here. Woo hoo!)

Bubba - SO glad teh work outs are coming. Keep up the good work!

Steve - Glad Krista was able to rescue you!

Anne - Thanks for the news on SUsie. Looks liek we're all accoutned for now!

Kristi - :grouphug: Part of this is teh chaos from post marathon. We're all riding high or trying to keep fm post-wdw depression adn people who signed up for their frist amrathon are riding high too. Things will calm down a bit.

It is hard with some of the separate threads. I'm just realizing ther are people on teh walker thread that I don't knwo at all, then ther are newbies on teams, a young poeple thread. So great that we can find easier places to get to know each other, but please keep in touch here too. I do hope that everyone continues to pop in here, even if you don't have time to keep up with everyone.

OK, on to this weeks news.

OK, WISHer identified! I have confirmation from Renee (HMHunters).

Yep, that's me! Good eye, Wendy! I have been off the boards as my dad is in the hospital (I'm on my way there now). Thanks for pointing it out to me!

Renee

Hope your Dad gets better quickly, Renee.

OK, caught up with this week. Looks liek we are back to being real WISHers again.

I think the hardest part is we are so used to the warmth her etha twhen anythings trays from that at all, it feels awful to us. yes, let' all pick a thread on teh community board or DVC and see how firendly even our least friendly threads look campared to that. ;)

Mel - You did what had been wanted since last year and you took the job no one else wanted. You did your best. No need to feel anythign is your fault. :grouphug:

Teams - I PM'd DAve with this because I didn't know when I'd get a chance to post. I am a very competitive person. So, I need that competition. I need teh feeling that I can't let my team down. WIth that in mind, I have tried to make it clear to my team that this is to keep us motivated and I don't want anyone to worry if tehy don't rack up the miles.

It seems like teh captains should be making that clear, liek Craig said. As long as the captiains continue to reinforce that it's about geting ourselves in gear and saying there, ther should not eb a problem. That being said, probably time for me to remind my team of that again. ;)

The teams have done a great job of making new WISHers feel like part of this team. I do hope that it will help them warm up to posting here, too. :goodvibes

OK, on to regular me type posts. What will TM season be over??? I've had enough of this cold, snow adn ice!!!! 6 Miles on teh TM Saturday was alomost more tahn I caould handle. However, my legs are holdign up adn I'm pretty happy witht that!

Serisouly, I think this is great for motivation adn great fo newbies to get a feel fro things outside of teh monster weekly thread. We just need to make sure everyoen knows they are part of a bigger team.
