Wk Of Dec 8 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Sigh....so last week was a total bust running wise for me thanks to my work schedule. I ran my 10K on Sunday which went fine. Yesterday morning I woke up with some pain in my right shin (towards the outside), and some tightness and pain in my calf and hip flexor. I'm going to see if I can get into the chiro in case it is an adjustment thing in my hip that is travelling down my leg. My 10-20 combo is this weekend... I'm going to rest it until I see the chiro or it feels better, but hopefully I am all sorted out to do my LR this weekend.

Has anyone had this issue before? Any ideas before I see my chiro/active release guy?

I can't offer any advice on your problem, but I was getting ready to ask if anyone had any experience with active release! I have an appt Thursday to see if he can help with the PF and work miracles in 32 days.

In the meantime, I haven't run in a week while hoping that the cortisone would take effect. It hasn't helped, which is why I'm pursuing the active release option. I'm scheduled for 12 this weekend in the 48 degree weather after a week of 70's and 80's. I'm not in panic mode or anything... but I'm beginning to seriously question why I thought I could do this!

On the bright side, I did call and make an ADR for breakfast at Boma after DH and DD run the 5K on Friday...

Hi Everyone!

Today I ran in my new shoes. My husband was amazed. Usually I let the new shoes sit in the box for a week or two until I get used to the idea of them and then graduate them to a spot next to my current pair for a couple weeks. It isn't unusual for me to have a pair of running shoes for over a month before I ever run in them.

This time I waited so long to buy them, that I had to put them on and wear them the day after I brought them home! It was traumatic, but they seem to be handling the trauma better than I am. I just wasn't ready. It did however feel good to run in nice springy shoes this morning.

My running partners are plotting some sort of initiation ritual for my new shoes tomorrow. :scared:

I hope you won't hate me for this, but I am strongly pulling for the Patriots to win them all. I have had more than enough of the 1972 Dolphins. Bitter old men they have become. I don't see how the success of others reduces your own achievement. They either have latent insecurity issues, or Freud would say they just hate their mothers.

Craig

I have to agree with this. Being in Florida, all we hear about are the 1972 Dolphins who were soooo great. I would love for any team to finally do it again and just shut them up. Since it is the Pats this year, I will be pulling for them.

And they said I ain't all there!

Bill and Craig....You guys are too funny. While I have no loyalty to the 1972 Dolphins...being from Yankee territory I am just having sour grapes against the Pats. Not that they've done a darn thing to me ;). LOL....just redirecting my feelings. Anyway, one thing can be said for the Patriots...they are sure making this a much more interesting football season IMO. Nothing like drama and record breaking years to keep ones interest. Particularly if you are a lowly Giants fan. Did I say that out loud? Oh the shame!

Leana....I feel your pain...literally. I've got a right calf/hip flexor/fascia latae thing going on myself. It reared it's ugly head after my 16 miler on Sunday and the tightness and tenderness is still there. I know for a fact that I'm generally out of whack. The chiro adjusted me but i may go back in for another one since I'm not back to 100%. Good luck..you've got a big weekend ahead! :goodvibes

Jackie...I had some good luck with the active release they did for me at PT last year for my post tib tendonitis. I hope it gives you great results for PF. Sending some PD your way...that is NOT a fun thing to deal with.

Cecilia...I'm SO jealous. Shiny new sneakers!!! :goodvibes Ahhhh.

As for my training....I managed to get a solid 90 minutes of Pilates in today. I had planned on a 5 mile run but decided to hold off another day in hopes that my soreness dissipates. The hips are sore and the right calf is a little tight too. Not risking injury running on sore legs right now. Sooo...tomorrow is another day.

Stephanie Bobby is doing half. We are staying at All Star Sports ( I got outrageous FL Res deal as soon as it came out)
The recovery is ok, I don't mean to sound like such a winy baby I am just so addicted to running and being active, this is very hard for me. But I am most excited about 5k for DH & DS it's going to be so cool to see them do that together. Then DS - 8 is doing kids races at Wide World  I am so excited about the whole thing.

The only wierd thing is we are not doing any parks the whole weekend. We have never been to disney and not done parks.:confused3 Oh well, it's still Disney :woohoo:

I'm cool with them going 16-0, because it won't mean a thing if we beat them in the AFC Championship game. :thumbsup2

Ok, we all know this is in good fun, right?

(Although I do have to admit my favorite moment from last weekend's game is when Tom "I'm a pretty boy" Brady ran smack into the backside of James Harrison while he was talking trash to Anthony Smith. The look on his face--I'm pretty sure he messed himself.) :teeth:

Hey everyone. I haven't posted in a while but I'm so excited to say I finished my first twelve miler! I was running to finish, not for time (but timed it anyway) and averaged an @ 13:00 minute pace. I'm in the last corral and was wondering if that was fast enough to beat the sweepers, including potty break, being in last corral, and getting through crowds?

Thanks in advance!
You have built in plenty of play time, potty break and picture or 2 or 3. Way to go!

I missed my LR this weekend. :( I was sabotaged! LTO majorly so I am going to try to fit in something this upcoming weekend. Probably not be B2B LRs. I am trying to not be injured and am sorry to hear that that injury monster is rearing its ugly head. Get well everyone! Stay heathy.

WISH Team Cheer time:

Thunder, thunder, thunderation!
We're the WISH Team delegation.
When we move with determination,
We create a GREAT! sensation!

Angie--maybe we could meet up sometime Sat. after the half. We aren't planning on any park hopping that day (imagine!), just a nice relaxing day at the BW. Or, the other option, where are you and the boys scream teaming it for Bobby? could meet up there as well. And no, you didn't sound whiny--just like someone has kept you from doing something you really enjoy.

Thanks Jackie and Amy!

...I did make it in to see the chiro this morning and he confirmed that my hip flexor, piriformis, calf and shin pain are all related. I've felt the piriformis for awhile and go for regular maintenance sessions, but the hip flexor and all else are new (on the pain side anyway, apparently the muscle trouble has been brewing for awhile). He did some active release in those areas and behind my knee and wow it hurt... The good news is it shouldn't keep me from running but I need a few sessions to clean it up. I still have some residual pain in my shin, but otherwise things are feeling pretty good, knock on wood.

Jackie, I really like this fellow for active release, so I hope you have a positive experience on Thursday. It might not feel better after just one session though, you may need two or three to fully see the benefit. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Amy, hopefully your chiro can get you fully sorted out too. I had never been to a chiro until a few months ago, but I definitely see the upside!

Okay, so I just was looking at our weather for the weekend-kinda gauge the LR forecast. Um, we are forecasted for SNOW on Sat!!!!:scared1: Guess the running gods think I need to train in all types of weather--what's next, a tornado????? Geez, thought I would've moved far enough south to get away from the fluffy white stuff. Good thing it's a step back week.

Good Morning Everyone,

Hard to believe that a month from now I'll be at Disney. I cannot even describe how excited I am about it. I have been training for and thinking about this race since January. Yahoo!! :cool1:

I too have been spending some quality time at the chiro. Seems I have a rotated sacrum which is causing some pain only when I run. Hopefully we'll get that straitened out (literally) by Jan 13th.

I got out for my 20 mi LR this past weekend. It was cold, but not stormy so it was fine. The forecast for today is near 50 degrees so I hope to take advantage during lunchtime.

I have a question about running your pace during the marathon. I'm starting in coral C so I'll have at least 4000 runners ahead of me. I'm hoping to run 9 min miles. Will I be able to do that once we're at Mile 1 or should I expect it to take longer? TIA.

Leana, Jackie, Amy: Hope the chiro helps.

Lily: Hope you find the time to get your workouts in.

Angie: I'm sorry the recovery is rough. Just remind yourself that this is temporary, you'll be back out there before you know it.

Amy: No shame in being a Giants fan. 9-4 is nothing to sneeze at. I sure do miss Tiki though. I also root for the Pats since I married a Pats fan so there's alot to cheer for at our house.

Steve & Krista: Your feelings for the Pats aside, you had to have been cringing when one of your guys was talking smack before the big game. You KNEW they were going to throw at him. Man I love football!!

WWDave: Hope you enjoyed your trip.

Cecilia: Congrats on the new shoes, I don't know how you restrain yourself from wearing them right away.

Renee: pixiedust: for your lazy behind.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy

Stephanie We would love to meet up after 1/2 on Saturday and when I figure out where we are scream teaming I will let you know.

Cindy We were in last corral last year and ran 10 minute pace and had no problem past about mile 1 to 2, now I did drive my husband crazy running in the grass a lot trying to get around all the crowds :confused3 The adrenaline was PUMPING!!!

Gott go Back to work

Bad news...

I went the chiropractor yesterday to get checked out because even w/ the new shoes, I'm still getting numb feet!

Turns out I walk on the outside of my foot, my arches are different on each foot and my left foot does not have good motion and muscles are super tight.

In addition to that, since my right leg is 1/2in. shorter, my pelvis it tilted and out of line as is my spine. From the side view, my spine curves too much at the bottom and my L5 disk is 70% gone!!! Meaning it's buldging! :scared1: I'm 28. How can this be!!!

So, I'm icing the back for the muscle pain which is better today since the chiro adjustment yeterday. Around the hip and leg joint where it bends still hurts.

I go back to chiro tomorrow for a more in depth discussion of the problems and treatment...

I am so frustrated! I finally decide to get off my bum and do something healthy I find out I have all these issues!!! ugh! :headache:

Sending :wizard: for everyone else facing physical issues and nursing injuries!

Hi folks!

I've gotten three straight days of workouts in so far this week!
With the way things are in my life right now, that's a major accomplishment.
I did 60 min. on elliptical Monday night, 30 minutes on bike yesterday and today did a 4.3 mile r/w. Not fast, but ahead of the sweepers. finished at 14:40 mpm pace. Since I've had little to no training for the past 2 weeks, I'm thrilled to be ahead of sweeper pace (at least for 4 miles).

Mom is still recovering from pneumonia. Took her to pulm. Dr. on Monday, who prescribed meds. Mom woke up yesterday morning covered in hives. :scared1: She was so itchy. Got her some otc stuff to bathe in and rub on to help with the itch. She's a little better today. Dr. told her it could be a couple months before she feels better (pre-pneumonia). Did not make her a happy camper. She lives with me, so I spend a lot of time looking after her.

As murphy's law goes, I have a 8/12 miles planned for the weekend and we're possible getting a Nor'easter. Just my luck! If that happens, I'll be getting that training in inside. One month to go, can't afford any missed training sessions.

On the football front - I used to like the Pats (even though they beat my Eagles in the Super Bowl). With all the attention they're getting this year, the one thing I've noticed with Tom Brady is that in close games if something doesn't go his way he gets all whiny and yelling at the refs. I never noticed this about him in previous years. Maybe it's the pressure of trying to stay undefeated. I haven't read any quotes from the '72 Dolphins players, but in their defense, I guess it's kinda cool to say you were the ONLY ones who have ever done something. Maybe they feel if some other team does it, they'll kinda lost their identity and fade into oblivion. Just my thoughts. I'm not a psychologist and don't pretend to be.

Christa - cute comment from your daughter.

Texa - great job on your 12 miles.

Renee - I seriously know what you're going through with motivational issues. I've been there recently. Sending :wizard: :wizard: your way. Read Lily's cheer, repeat it several times, then get up and get moving! Your fellow WISHERS are behind you!

Angie - Welcome back! Hope the back continues to improve.

Stacie - Sorry to hear about your pain. Hope the chiro can help!

Terri

So, if running is so good for you, why is everyone getting so beat up?! Kidding, really! I hope everyone gets to feeling better. I started using a chiropractor too after I learned I actually cannot do a flip on a trampoline. :rolleyes1 I think it's working- at least I haven't had any major injuries on this crazy training schedule!

I have a major case of LTO. My kids have Christmas parties or recitals/shows pretty much everyday for the next two weeks. What on earth!? Christmas is becoming a chore for me- you know, have to go buy Tostitos for this party, cookies for school party, presents for secret Santa exchange, yada yada...

(Last year DD gave a present to a little girl in Scouts for the gift exchange- the kid asked me if I had the receipt and then cried when I said no, so I'm still traumatized about gift exchanges... As fate would have it, guess who's name DD drew this year- yep, receipt girl!)

OK, back to running!-

Three good things running-wise:

1) I haven't run much this week, but I'm signed up for a half on Sunday, so I guess I was you know, tapering...

2) my Garmin is supposed to come today! Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday to me! I can't wait to play with it!

3) I found a totally cool scooter for Santa to give DD with big tires. I have big hopes that she can scoot along with me on a slow, short run in the future! If I don't get out the door soon, I'll only be going on slow, short runs!

OK, enough procrastinating...

Hi All….Sorry it has been so long since I’ve posted. I’ve lurked some, just no time to keep up with everyone. Week day training has been sporadic but I have managed to do all of the LR/W. Sunday’s 18 miler went surprisingly well. Finished ahead of sweeper time & felt like I could keep going. The only thing that really hurt was the top of my feet. :confused3 I was also starving the last 3-4 miles. Sports beans are not cutting it for hunger. I’m going to have to figure out how to carry some pretzels or something for the 20 miler.:upsidedow

Can really use some Pixie Dust for Sean(DS21). As a lot of you know, Sean is a Volunteer Fireman. Monday night while out doing “Santa Patrol” he fell off the firetruck & it ran over his left arm from his elbow down to his finger tips. We are so very thankful that his arm was the only thing that was run over & amazingly he didn’t break any bones. He still has to go see a hand surgeon to see if there is any other damage. His hand & fingers are really swollen and black & blue. His arm looks ok except for the tire tracks down it. It is so scary to think how much worse it could have been.:scared1:

Sorry….only have time to reply to a few right now. I apologize to those I miss.

Dana – :grouphug: I am so very sorry for your loss
Cam – Sorry your back hasn’t improved as much as you had hoped. pixiedust:
Kristi – Love Chad’s Christmas lights! Also, Congratulations to Molly on her meeting with Puma. Sending her lots of pixiedust:
FL Angie – Sorry your recovery isn’t going as quickly as you would like. Hang in there!pixiedust:

To all those injured and/or sick – pixiedust:
To everyone getting in there workouts & long run/walks – GREAT JOB!:thumbsup2

Thank you all for all of your GREAT posts. They really are motivating & inspiring!

Jen, I feel the same way. I am so overwhelmed right now it is not even funny. I still haven't wrapped any gifts or sent out any Christmas cards. It is like every day I have a million things going on. I don't know why I keep booking NYE WDW trips. I haven't even given the trip any thought. Plus, my oldest's homework is taking up most of our afternoons. It is almost impossible to get anything done once she gets home. I feel so sorry for her and a tad upset about it at the same time. She has no free time!

I start my half training this Sunday and I had to sit down with a calender today and figure out what days I could squeeze in my runs around all this holiday stuff. Four weeks of moving around runs. Insane.

I feel like Scrooge. On a happier note, I ran my fastest run yesterday - 10:07 was my average pace!

Hey team.

It's been forever since I posted, or even got online to read. The holidays seem to have taken over -- that and carting kids everywhere imaginable. I have kept on running though -- mostly on the treadmill.

Here's what I need advice about -- my long runs have gotten longer -- about 16 miles today:banana: and my legs and lungs seem to be holding up fine :goodvibes my problem is the bottoms of my feet and the tops of my toes  I'm okay until about mile 8 or so and then the bottoms of my feet and tops of my toes start to hurt. Today I felt like I could have easily gone farther -- except I was bored out of my mind on the treadmill, if my feet hadn't been bothering me.

My shoes are older -- I have been worried about switching so close to the WDW marathon -- this is my first marathon and I am a little nervous about everything.

Any ideas?

Dona

Hey Team - Not a lot to report. I did some speed walking (fast for me!) on Monday, but yesterday and today my knee is a little tender so I am resting. I don't want to hurt anything this close to the big day!!!

I have been having MAJOR issues with finding my shoes in my size. I have been on the search but they have been out of stock (new model came out). But today I found a pair... and 30% off to boot. I have them on hold at the store, so I can go pick them up. The new color is orange... BLUCH, hopefully the new model treats me good!!!! I need to get a couple LR's in them before the big day!!!

Dona - I am getting a new pair and will run about 20-30 miles in them before the marathon. I want fresh shoes for the race, or so I was told that is what I should do! I did it last year for the 1/2 with no problems.

JenGA - Oh man, I can totally relate to LTO... I have had it most of this year and it keeps getting worse. I need a personal assistant!!!

Karen - OMG :grouphug: for Sean. I hope everything is OK for his arm. Is he running at WDW this year?
