Wk Of Dec 8 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Hey guys! Not too much time to post now, but just wanted to say I finished my 18 miler. This is the second week in a row that I've had a LR in the pouring rain. I can honestly say, if the heavens open up on marathon morning and we get 7 inches of rain, I'm mentally prepared. :)

I'll try to catch up later. Good job to everyone on their runs this weekend.

PS--I hate Tom Brady. And I hate all the hype over the most boring team in all of football. I'll stop talking now.

Steve

dkp - With regards to the blisters: I've gotten blisters the past two years at WDW, in different spots. After the marathon in 2006 I had a wicked blood blister the size of 1/2 dollar. UGLY! So, for the 2007, I put vaseline on that spot, then put my socks on and vaseline over the spot again and rubbed vaseline on the inside of my shoe, where that spot would be. NO blister at all - on that spot. I got about 5 other blisters in the heat and it knocked me out at mile 21.

Someone recommended the Injinji toe socks to help avoid blisters on the toes. I tried them on an 11 mile run and had no problems. I'm going to wear them for the upcoming Goofy, but still use the vaseline, too, as extra precaution.

Good luck. I know the blisters were a pain!

Terri

Terri,

Thanks so much for this suggestion!! I never thought of multiple layers of Vaseline, but can see how it would work. I'm (almost) looking forward to giving it a try on Tuesday. :thumbsup2

Steve...you totally rock to stick out the 18 in the rain...sounds like some form of water torture to me. Awesome job...not sure I'd have the mental fortitude to do that. WTG!

Hey to all, just checking in to say congrats and good job to everyone on their LRs for the weekend. I wish I could say mine was good, but it was not. My race report is up http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1655740&page=2 but I'd like to forget the whole experience. I guess I can just chalk it up to not being as trained as I needed to be. That's what I get for getting the "big head". But I did finish.

Been dealing with a sick baby. Had to take him to the ER this afternoon with a fever of 104.6. But really no other symptoms. He was so pitiful. All they could tell us after testing his urine, and swabbing his throat is that he has a fever and if it's something then it will present itself with more symptoms later. Ummmmmm, ok.....thanks.

Going to take it easy this week since I can hardly walk my quads are hurting so bad. Thought I'd start getting in the pool to give my legs a break but still get in some cardio.

until later,
~bree~

Hey all, well I got round wihtout being struck by lightning, so I now have 2 hrs and 4hrs 10 under my belt. This weekend I'm being a total rebel - I'm going to run 2.40hrs then 1.20, I figure my body will be soooo happy as it's been doing things the other way round for 20 weeks now, then when next week I hit it with 2.15 and 4.30 it'll feel just fine! Of course the fact that Thursday is my birthday (so no running Friday) and Sunday is Tim's (so 2.40 not friendly) has nothing to do with it!

I can't believe it's only one more super long run then it's here. Helen

Oh, that reminds me, I had the CRAZIEST dream Friday night, I dreamt that I overslept on half marathon morning and completely missed the race. I kept saying "I can't believe I worked so hard to finally get an entry and I slept through the race!". So the marathon dreams have started.
OMG, Krista - I had the same exact dream Friday night! I swear!
I think mine was because of my lack of training though.... :rolleyes1

Bill - we will miss you in January, but please keep hanging around here, ok?

I must get back on the training wagon today. I think I had that dream since my training went kerplunk kerpluoey lately. (ok, too many Christmas movies!) I have big plans for the Y later today!

You guys are kicking some butt with this mileage lately! :worship:

Good Morning Wish Team:flower3:

Erica and I are in Gattlinburg in the middle of the Smokies and the weather here is wonderful, it's 57degrees right now and going to a high of 70. We are going to have breakfast and then do an 18 mile LSD, I love being a walker. As a runner I could never eat eggs and potatoes and toast with sasuage and take of running.

I got my packet in the mail on Saturday but Erica didn't give it to me till yesterday when she got home from work. I can't be packetless Panda anymore.

Erica reminded me that in 2006 we drove to Disney and left our half marathon packets laying on the kitchen counter with the atlas. We showed our ID cards and checked in just fine.

Have a wonderful day y'all.

Panda and his pretty princess, enjoying the Smokies.

Kristi - You're getting more miles in that most of us just climbing in and out of that wagon!!:rotfl2:

WWDave - What's wrong? Not hilly enough for you in Kentucky? You had to go to the Smokies for your training?:confused3

We just had breakfast and a 2 mile warm-up up hill and down and now we are getting our stuff ready for 20 more. Yee Haw!

Greetings all -

A quick drive-by as I really should be doing some work. Or at least making it look like I am.

Since we had some of NEBill's "Christmas Snacks" Friday evening into Saturday morning, it was much too messy outside so both Charlie and I opted to do our L/Rs on the TM. I got up super early and cranked out my measly nine, then he did his 18. Our poor TM was crying for mercy! No wonder we need a new motor. We both agree that training on the TM is harder because it is just relentless. I guess we are both stubborn because we will push to go faster but neither of us will back down. Although I keep it at 1% he moves it back and forth between 1% and 8%! JSYK, I'd be dead if I trained at 8%.

Vic - Thanks for all the pictures. They are all great, for different reasons. ;) We are considering going to Hawaii next fall. I'll make sure I go to the Memorial this time.

Alright, OK, let me do some stinkin' work. :coffee:

Hi guys!

Judy, Sephanie and Lily...Thanks for you input on to 15K in May or not!

Bree and Christa -- Sorry to hear your race did not go as well as you hoped. Serioulsy though... it's amazing that you can do that distance at all! I can only dream at this point. I think it's fantastic that you were able to do it!

Bree--Sorry to hear your little man is sick!!!

Panda--So glad your packet came in!!!

So...for me. Fleet Feet called me over the weekend and I'm going in tonight to see if we can work something out. :woohoo:

I had a good workout Saturday aside from the numb feet! ugh. I decided to just walk on Sunday. Did a burst of running here and there and attempted race-walking!!! OMG!!! I don't know that was doing it correctly, but what a workout. I only did a minute or so at the time, but my upper legs are were so sore later in the day and again today! You sure feel speedy!

Question for any ladies (well, and men if there are any) w/ hip pain... Exactly where does it hurt? My right leg is 1/2 shorter than my left due to a ski-accident broken leg about 7 years ago. My hip doesn't actually hurt, but it's my leg where it bends (the joint I guess?)...not sure what that is called??? :confused3 I'm afraid as I increase my mileage that it will get worse and I may get more back soreness due to this leg being 1/2 inch shorter...

Stacie

Got 3.86 miles in on the TM. Funny but I run so much farther outside than I do trapped in the basement! :lmao:

Anyway, onto the good news/bad news: I have an opportunity to do the half and the 5K in January with all of you!!!!!!!! :cool1: I can find a reasonable airfare and that is where the good news ends. I can get a wilderness cabin or I can stay at the Swan for OMG amounts of money. Anyone got a spare bed??? Anyone??? LOL.

I have to check AAA again and see what magic I can work with the reservation I had for Minnie. Everyone keep fingers crossed that we don't get a huge storm and I cannot fly down and that I can find a room....somewhere. Maybe I should check DTD too.....

Hi Everyone-

I went to Fleet Feet today to meet my new best friends. I was determined that I was going to get something other than Brooks this time. However, after almost 2 hours and comparing I don't know how many pairs over and over, I bought another pair of Brooks.

Also, I don't know if they have any left, but Costco (online) is selling garmin 305's for $179.99 today.

Have a great day everyone!

Cecilia

Okay, important question for all you experienced marathoners...do the DTD hotels have transportation to the half and the 5K? I have found a room at the former Grosvenor hotel.........

I don't know the answer, having never been to marathon weekend, but if the hotel is within a reasonable walking distance to DTD, you might be able to walk to SSR and catch a bus there. Hopefully a veteran of the event can better help you out.

Hello Gang

Mondays are always a weights and 30 easy minutes bike workout. The theory is after hard or long Sunday runs the weights make the legs work hard, and then the bike flushes all the garbage out of my muscles.

Well today I learned that theory doesn't always work, especially after an 18 miler the previous day. I always start with hamstring curls, and today the tendons in the back of the knees were sore and swollen, and the hamstrings had huge knots in them. After other exercises I hit the squats, which was really entertaining. The upper outsides of the quads burned after just a few reps, and didn't get any better as the number increased.

At least the upper body work didn't hurt  , and the bike was okay. All of our relatives think Martha and I are insane, and today I wonder if they don't have a point.

34 days and counting. Are we having fun yet?

Craig

HELLO EVERYONE -- REMEMBER ME??!!:wave2:

I have missed you guys so much. Wednesday will be exactly 4 weeks since my surgery. I am sad to report it was HORRIBLE!!! V:sad2: Just to be blunt. It did not go as well for me as it did for DH (who by the way is KICKING BUTT!! ON the marathon training. Last 10 miler he did was 9 min pace!! - He is so far ahead of where we were this time last year. I'm so proud of him - back surgery and all) And DS - 11 is doing AK 5K with dad as some of you might remember and he completed his first 3 mile run without stopping today. :dance3: I can't wait to go cheer them on marathon weekend.

Anyway, my recovery is EXTREMELY slow :scared: . I have been walking some and doing my core. Going to the gym tomorrow night for the first time since surgery to do bike and light upper body weights. I am definately not going to get back to running as quickly as I had hoped. :headache: This is SOOOOO frustrating for me. But my goal is still to do the MINNIE as my first race back.

So, some good news and some bad but I am back and I have missed you guys.
