Wk Of Dec 30 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Krista: OMG...meant to tell you that I really love the Teenagers song by MCR. That one gets me going all the time :). It really is a great cd to run too! You guys have great taste in music ;).

We need a link here to the cowbell skit so we can all laugh a little and forget about the madness for a few minutes!! OK OK...I know...I know...go run Amy. I'm going, I'm going. Bye! Wish me luck..it's chilly out there!

In case anyone is wondering, NO, I haven't gotten any work done this afternoon!

Krista

:cool1: Krista YOU ROCK.. Thanks for the pic :lmao: . OMG. THE.BEST.SKIT.EVER!!!

OK..back from my run. Just did 3 miles...was getting cold and the legs were getting tight. The old joints do NOT like this below freezing business ;). Only two more runs before I leave for WDW.

And I didn't get much done today either...obviously LOL!

Stephanie - my 3 year old is awesome at GOLF on the Wii!!

Lily - I am so sorry to hear about the puppy!!

Craig - I am so sorry you are hurt. Here's to hoping things get better for you and you can at least participate!!

Krista and Steve - Congratulations!! That is so wonderful!!

Mel - The last snow we got here in Jax was back in the 80's!! We thought that we just might get a little bit on Wednesday night, but didn't get anything.

Cecilia - Hey!! Glad to know I'm not the only one taking the taper to heart!! I can't get my butt up to do anything lately!!

Lisa - We will definately be there, but I think since we are running for A-T we will be wearing RED shirts instead of the green!! I will do my best to grab ahold of every WISHer I can find and introduce my little one!!

Angie - Looks like there will be two families in red searching for the ones in lime green!!

Let me tell you... things around here have been really hectic, but I figured it is so close to race day that I really felt I needed to get in and talk to everyone!! I got all my runs in up to my last 20 mile LR a few days before Christmas. After that things went downhill drastically. On Christmas morning, my great aunt (one of my favorite people in the world) had a stroke. She has been sick for a very long time, her and my uncle smoke and drank for as long as I can remember. About 15 years ago her son died on Christmas morning, and it truly broke my heart to get the news. My mom and I went to Virginia to see her (even though she couldn't talk) and thankfully on Thursday something clicked and she was back to normal. Thank goodness, so we came home.

Then New Year's Eve Michael (DS6) told us that he wanted to spend New Year's Eve at home with just the four of us, so that's what we did. I went to the party store and we had a party at home. We had pigs in a blanket, chips and dip, sparkling grape juice, and a bottle of champagne for Me!! We set off some fireworks in our cul-de-sac, and had an absolute blast. We cleaned up the mess from the fireworks, and went to bed. I was lying in bed reading a book when there was an explosion, and I literally mean an explosion. I felt the entire house shake. All I could think of is that ours or someone else's fireworks had caught someone's house on fire so I ran out the front door to see what was going on. DH thought I went out the garage door and went through there and the garage was engulfed in flames and smoke. He opened the garage door and I was standing in the front yard so I grabbed the hose and put the flames out, as he ran back in the house and got the fire extenguisher. My kids, slept through it all. Fire alarms were going off because of the smoke that got in the house when David opened the door, and it didn't phase either one of them a bit!! Obviously, even though the fireworks were cool to the touch they were still very hot inside and it melted our garbage can, there was an aerosol bottle of tire cleaner next to the garbage can and that was what exploded, and I think that is what started the fire. There truly wasn't too much damage and we are VERY lucky. There were gas cans and fertilizer all in that general aread where the fire was, and none of that ignited, and if it hadn't been for the explosion I don't know how much damage would have been done before we knew there was even a fire.

So... we have spent the last few days cleaning everything in the garage. I mean my car smells. We went to Home Depot to pick some things up and as we walked out of the store and back to our car we could smell the fire next to the car. I have gotten maybe .... 10 miles in since my last 20 mile run. I am putting faith into the training that I put in before everything went crazy. I have done two 18 mile LR's and two 20 mile LR's. I am gonna put in a 10 miler tomorrow, and a 3 miler on Tuesday, and that's it before we head to Orlando on Thursday!! I may have some extra time to get together with everyone while we are there next weekend. If we can't get someone to watch our dogs for us then David will be driving back and forth to take care of them. The plan for right now is that he will come down Thursday evening with his parents and watch Michael and I run on Friday, and will return on Friday to our house to take care of the animals. Then on Saturday he will drive back to Orlando that afternoon, so that he can watch me run on Sunday, and then he'll head home that afternoon. Since he isn't going to be there on Saturday I am going to try and get together with some of you and cheer on the half runners!! I might even get to make it to the WISH meet at POP, but I'm not sure yet.

Anyway, that was my long story about how things have gone crazy around here. I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday, and I can't wait to see everyone in a week!!

Dana

p.s. Is it possible to change your starting place from red to blue? I would much rather run through the red course, especially since that's where all of our WISH volunteers are gonna be.

Hey all! Just popping in to say hi. I'm laying off any runs since my quad is acting up. I went for a swim last night. Did a mile. Haven't been in the pool since my surgery, so I thought I'd be in big trouble. But I kept my pace steady and finished pretty well. Arms and shoulders are a little sore today, but not too bad. Gonna do it again tomorrow.

Matt - Great to see you back!

Judy - We're going to look like twins on race day. I'm wearing my black "sausage shorts" and WISH shirt, too. Although if it's chilly I may wear my black tights instead.

I'm gonna start packing this weekend, since I'll be fitting a week's worth of work into two days next week. Wednesday, I'll be on my way.

I'll stop by my target and look for the lime green cowbells and pom poms.

First, glad you are ok from the little excitement. My aunt was in a rear end collision with that fix-a-flat can in the trunk many years ago. It exploded and sent a fire ball through the car. Witnesses were surprised when she and her husband got out of the car alive. We stay away from those now.

Second, yes you can change from the blue to the red. You can move to a slower corral. That will probably be what I do since the Wish people are on the red side.

I am so very happy to hear that I'm not the only one questioning my sanity and wondering why the heck I'm doing this! :scared1:

Judy: your post on the "Nervous" thread was awesome--Lady you are the best! I hope I don't embarrass you!

I cannot wait to see everyone next week. I'll pick up my packet on Friday and join you all for the Pop meet. DH and I will be dining elsewhere but we'll be mingling with all you fine people and enjoying the company. Can't wait to scream team for all of you during the half (got the plans worked out and will finalize on Friday). Sunday I do or die. Then I can say I did it. I do hope the current forecast proves wrong and it is cool. My focus will be a very large hot fudge sundae. While out on the course I will decide what ice cream I want, sprinkles/no sprinkle, whipped cream, what kind of nuts, how many cherries. Yummmmm..............

Have a great evening everyone!!

Matt

Welcome back. We're all thrilled that you have returned.

Mel and Stephanie

Can you tell me the maximum dosage of Aleve? I need to pound the anti-inflammatories, but I don't want to fry one or more internal organs.

Dana

What an exciting new years. I'm glad no one was hurt and damage was minimal. Perhaps you have a future career in special effects.

I have been reading this week, but it's been tough mentally to see everyone getting appropriately excited and frightened when I have this dumb tiny hamstring tear. It's great to see everyone all revved up, I just want to be a part of it.

The timing was horrible, but actually somewhat lucky. I'm between semesters, so I've been able to spend about 4 hours each day this week stretching the dumb thing, doing hamstring curls (up to 3 sets, 16 reps at 25 pounds!), walking and today some slow jogging on the treadmill, stretching, and then 4 sessions of ice and the muscle stimulator. Today was especially encouraging on the treadmill, 5K at 13:10 per mile, so Sunday I'll see if I can do 5 miles around 12 minutes per mile. Unless I re-injure the thing I'll be in the corrals Sunday, shooting for that same 12 minute per mile pace.

Thank you all for your positive waves. As promised I've rehabbed it aggressively, as the thought of not being able to run is too depressing.

See you all next week.

Craig

Dana: Geeez! What an ordeal! I'm glad you are all OK. Gotta love the kiddos sleeping through everything! :) And may I add, you have quite the marathon weekend travel/drop-off/pick-up/shuttle plan going on! I hope you can make the Pop meet.

Craig--here are the guidelines per my Drug Info Handbook
For RA, OA, and ankylosing spondylitis--500-100mg in 2 divided doses; may increase to 1.5gm/day naproxen base for limited time period

Mild to moderate pain:500mg initially, then 250mg every 6-8 hours to a max of 1250mg/day naproxen base

Hope that helps--please take it easy! :thumbsup2

Thank You Stephanie!

I'm within the max guidelines easily. I've been taking 3 per day, 220 mg each, so I'm way below 1250. I'm doing remarkably well with this dumb small tear, so I'll see you in 1 week.

Craig

...I don't want to mention any names....told me there were no more medals.
Hmmph!
Let's not forget who marched her butt back to the finish to find a medal, any medal, for Queen Judy's neck as it was her first Half! ;)

And Judy hon - what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas! :rolleyes1
Now before the men here go thinking dirty thoughts about what I was doing while Chad was home working....there was none of that!
I did some :drinking1 on Sunday. Ok, I did alot of :drinking1 on Sunday.
I also don't remember much of Sunday evening. I have been told I hugged a male exotic dancer.
Then I started getting  on the cab ride back to Mandalay Bay.
Much of the evening was spent in the lovely bathroom in our hotel room.
Thank God my friend Michele loves me and spent the night cleaning up after me.
Then much of Monday was spent freaking out about how sick I was and how to get better enough to stand for the concert that night! :scared1:
(ok, sorry you asked? And just for the record, I have not imbibed that much since college - really!)

Dana - thank God you were all ok!

... I'll be in the corrals Sunday, shooting for that same 12 minute per mile pace.

See you all next week.

Craig

OK speedy, I am hoping for a 12 minute pace and I am not currently injured. I am sure that you will be leaving us in the the dirt once the starting fireworks go off.

Bill

My focus will be a very large hot fudge sundae. While out on the course I will decide what ice cream I want, sprinkles/no sprinkle, whipped cream, what kind of nuts, how many cherries. Yummmmm..............

Have a great evening everyone!!

Martha - just one more reason why I  you!!! :rotfl2:

Craig -- can I just say how happy I am for you that you are doing better?

Matt -- Hi, sweetie! Welcome HOME! We have missed you and Cheryl terribly!!! Can't wait to see you at POP!

Judy-- I am so proud of you. Your post on the "nervous" thread just reminds me of how far so many people, including you (miss "knee surgery just months before the half"!) have come. :grouphug:

Dana -- Thank God you are all alright!

Okay, I'm fried. Off to bed for a (I hope) 5:00 wake-up to go to the gym before work! UGH!

Craig--I'm so glad you're able to rehab the hamstring. I was worried for awhile that you were going to be out for next weekend, and I know how hard you've been training. I'm really happy for you. Good luck with the rest of this week and take it easy on yourself. Can't wait to see you guys in Florida!

Steve
