Wk of Dec 2--WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi Team,

Sorry I haven't been on much this week - - I had intended to get on more but work has been so busy.

Last night I did end up doing 5 miles on the threadmill
Mile 1: 15:45 min/mil
Mile 2: 11:45 min/mil
Mile 3: 15:45 min/mil
Mile 4: 11:45 min/mil
Mile 5: 15:45 min mil

I did loads of stretches before and after running/walking....my physical therapist said that I shouldn't baby it so much and start running but I'm just trying to be senseable about it! I am going to see the doctor on Monday, unless I am feeling better by then....don't get me wrong I am feeling a little bit better and I know it's probably a slow process.

I see the therapist this morning and I think I have my personal trainer session tonight but I still have to call her to confirm, I think I might have marked my calendar wrong.

So as Disney gets closer is everyone else becoming -- well for a lack of better wording -- becoming an air head? I just feel at work I can be doing so much better but my mind is so much on this race that my thoughts are just all over the place. Really people at work must be like :confused3 "What's up with her?"

Wow, I'm quite chatty this morning, huh? :teeth: Well, have to run......I hope to catch up with you all sometime soon :goodvibes

Where is that Sunny???

Christa - I was thinking of you in the car yesterday...I was listening to the radio and "Pour Some Sugar On Me" came on!!! :rotfl: I was driving around with it blaring - are we children of the 80s or what? :lmao:

Howard - I have no advice for your Goofy training. But if it makes you feel any better, Chad hasn't run at all in 3 weeks! :scared1: On a lighter note, he trained even less last year and did fine with the Goofy. In fact, he did much better than he expected to and felt fine afterwards!

I have 30 mins. xt on deck for today & I am doing it no matter what. Chad is in Boston for testing again today (don't even ask) - so I will pull out an exercise DVD during Zack's nap if I have to.

Howard - You still have a pretty strong base adn determiniation like no one I've ever known. However, I'm thinking you may want to take it very easy for teh half with a full elft for SUnday. Perhaps Judy can draft you? :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Good luck with exams!!!

Amy - Yes, you can do it on 16. Penguin says so, SUnny knows people who did it on 16 the first time, you can do it. heck, I may be doing it on 16 myself if things don't get better, but I know that that is an overwhelming htought when it's your first marathon. The key is to be healed, though.

Mel - Congrats on teh 2 miles running!!! The rebel run sounds like a good change of pace. :rotfl: On the Dennis Rodman comment.

jodi - Have you noticed how whacked our posts are lately? You are not alone!

Once again Carrie has some great advice. Do not over do your training...I do remember Runners World having a write-up about last min training like 3 or 4 months ago...I will look it up for you.

:rotfl: The 80s rock...my hair is super curly and big so I was so the heat in the 80s! BIG HAIR WILL RETURN!

Cool pic Wendy!!!

Good to see you Heather!!!!

Awesome pics Wendy! (thank for linking us, Christa!)

Heather - :wave2:

Ok, after looking at those pics, I have a funny story. I think it was the 2005 marathon. I was doing my usual Kristi-Marathon of chasing Chad around the course, seeing him at as many points as I could. I saw Chad by the GF and monorailed back to TTC, to get a bus to Animal Kingdom. On the way to the TTC, this man was asking me questions about the route. I had the small course pocket map with me and showed him. I kept thinking he looked familiar, like one of those Petty NASCAR guys. I bused to Animal Kingdom and if I remember correctly, he bused to MGM instead.

Well, after seeing Richard Petty just now on the Victory Junction pics - it was him! Didn't his son run the full that year at WDW?

.baking cookies now...But I ate most of the cookie dough 1st..DDs cannot understand why so few cookies come in a pack. :p

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

My kids wonder the same exact thing!!

Of course I tell them they can't eat raw cookie dough because of Salmonella poisoning so they would never suspect where the dough goes. :rolleyes1 Cookie dough just doesn't taste as good if you don't have to sneak it.

I really am Cruella.....

Hey everyone, I will have to go back and catch up on the posts. Still doing good, have to get better at the eatting since I also need to lose weight but with Xmas it is soooo hard.

You all must be getting so excited, I am excited for you all. Only a few more weeks away.

Kim

I have done NOTHING since Saturday's miles, and had our firm holiday party last night so I am super-motivated to get to the gym tonight and do at least 4 miles. Tomorrow's cross training may end up being shopping. :guilty: The plan is for 8 in the wee hours of Saturday morning before coming in to work for as long as I can stand. Maybe not 4:30 a.m. wakeup like last Saturday, but early, for sure.

Wendy -- awesome picture! You have the BEST smile! :teeth:

Good morning TEAM!!! Ahh! What a morning, we got hit with a snow storm right at rush hour. It took me an hour and a half to get to work!!! My back is hurting from sitting so tense in the car and my legs are killing me from riding my brakes down I-75. But I'm here all in one piece. :)

Hey full marathoners--Guess what we'll be doing one month from today!! :faint:

Colleen--I have a huge family (4 sisters, 3 brothers-in-law, 7 nieces and nephews on my side; 3 sisters, 3 brothers-in-law, and 2 nephews on Stephen's side; plus parents and grandparents) and I have done all of my Christmas shopping on-line. I only have 2 more presents to buy and I haven't even set foot in a store. Thankfully every place I bought from had free shipping. :thumbsup2

Howard--Carrie really did say it best and I can't add anymore to her advice. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Amy--You can absolutely do the full marathon with only a long run of 16 miles. Don't worry, your Wish team will be there to carry you through!!

Where is Sunny????

Wendy--Great picture!!!! You look fabulous!

Heather--Good to see you again! How is your training going?

I better get off here, with getting to work so late, I have quite a mess on my desk. At least I'll be busy today! But I will be back, I can't stand the thought of you guys having fun without me!

Amy - You are going to do fine. Last year Craig had some really encouraging posts concernining sweeper times. Anyway, if you run 16 at your training pace (which you already know you can do) and then totally bonk, you will probably still have enough time built in that you will have plenty of time to finish w/o fear of being swept. Phil did a really hard hilly marathon w/ me last year (his first one) w/out much running training at all. He ran about 2-4 long runs total with the longest being 15 miles. He ran most of the marathon w/ me (20 miles) at about a 10:30-11:00 pace and then took off for the last 6 miles. He finished 12 minutes ahead of me and had a lot left over. I think it was b/c he ran most of it slower than his natural pace. You have an endurance base w/ all of your cross training. You can do it!!! Are you in the 5:00hr gp? If so, you'll have lots of encouragement there!!

Good morning RACING TEAM! Whooo hoo! That's what we are, aren't we??!?!?

Duh. Like THAT just sunk it. OK, can you tell I'm getting excited!?!?! :cool1:

This morning I did 55 min @ 3.8 @ 1%. While watching White Christmas. Gosh, I love that movie!

Anyway, now I have a question....

Tights, capris, or shorts???

This question is mostly for the ladies, but hey, if you guys intend to be sporting capris, I say - More power to you! :teeth:

I have been looking at pictures of past WDW races to see what everyone else has worn. It looks like mostly shorts. I'm bringing all three, because who knows. I would really much prefer to wear my Danskin black tights though. They are very very light weight and so comfortable. I guess we can't be sure, since who knows what the weather will be, but what do you think you'll wear? Or, what did you wear last year? On top I'll be wearing my WISH t-shirt.

Is anyone going to the parks after the Half? We are planning on going back to POR to rest and shower and then head over to MGM. We'll take it slow and easy - no commando touring! But I think walking the park slowly and easily will be good for me afterwards. During training I have been doing my LR early on Saturday morning then doing barn chores and housework the rest of the day. That will sort of be the same.

Lily - Thank you for your advice. Guess I worry too much. :goodvibes

Melissa
- YAY for your $50! :thumbsup2

Oh Christa - That picture in "Behind The Scenes"! How adorable!! :goodvibes

Mel - YAY for your work out! But oh, I'm sorry to hear about your foot. :wizard:

Howard - Oh Howard, I have no advice. I'm so new to all this. But I'm sending you all the :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: I can find! (P.S. I know where there is someone VERY AMAZING close at hand that can inspire you. And she lives right in the same house as you!)

Any - You were posting at midnight!! Oh my goodness, girl! Don't you sleep???? :faint:

Jodi - Please. They can't tell my "Taper Tantrum Airheadedness" from my usual "My job is a total bore Airheadedness". And besides, right about now, WHO CARES?? We're doing a marathon!

Carrie - HA! :lmao: That's a good one. Howard draft off of me? HA HA HA HA! :rotfl2:

Wendy - WOW! Great picture! What a great smile! :teeth:

Kristi - HA HA HA! :rotfl: Yeah, Richard Petty is one of those "Petty NASCAR guys".

Yeah, where is Sunny??? :confused3

Judy - I woreshorts with what I still call biker pants (see sig). However, teh half finished much earlier than teh full. So, you may want to eb a bit warmer.

FYI historical average temps fro that time of year range from 40 to 60. Last years race went from 34 to 65 for me. :confused3

Melissa

"Totally bonk?" That's great. I think of it as the bear, blown legs, stuff like that. I like your review of the moment when your legs refuse to listen to instructions from the brain.

Howard

I've just sent you an e-mail to your aol account with some ideas and some of my running log from the last 10 weeks before last year's Goofy. I got both races and all 3 medals with long runs never past 13 miles. I had a lot of 10 to 13's, but nothing longer. I know you can make it. The specifics are in the e-mail. Good luck.

4 weeks until I'm on an airplane.

However, I know if I just draft off of Zebra Butt like I was planning on.... :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

Disclaimer: I do realize I will be NOWHERE NEAR Kevin at any time. He'll be WAY gone by the time I'm just getting warmed up.

You know, y'all better be careful what you wish for. I am many things and shy is generally not one of them. Just sayin'

And I promise you I'm really not that fast, honest. (Not like I'm Christa or anything.....)

To answer your questions about what to wear... I say bring it all and make a decision the night before. For the full, I wore shorts and was fine-- a little chilly in the corrals, but once we got going I felt fine. (I did buy and use one of those throwaway jackets they sell for $7 at the Expo... highly recommended)

Pat-- I'm in full-on germaphobic mode too. I work with college kids and every single one of them is sick right now. I will admit that part of me wishes I would just go ahead and get sick so I can get it over with and hopefully be OK for the races.

Krista-- The boys are good, if a little clingy lately with us working so much. Sadly, they might have to go into the "spa" on Tuesday if we win Sunday night and we have to travel. (Who am I kidding... they love it there.) I do think one of them has amnesia, though.... he gets completely confused by the first couple of snowfalls every year.

Howard-- My finals are finished on the 13th, so I guess I get a couple of extra days on you. :teeth: I am very much in the same boat as you.... working full time, in school full time and tryin to pull off Goofy. I'm pretty darned undertrained too. Honestly, I think we'll be fine. Your base is good and this isn't your first rodeo, so you know what to expect. You'll be just fine. BUT, I would try and take as much taper as you can... don't force out miles ten days before hand just to make up for lost time--- get your taper in and show up ready to go on the 6th. (My two cents, anyhow..)

Yesterday evening, I got outside and did 5K in 28:-something, 9:12/mile. It was really nice out, actually. Cold, but not breathtakingly so. Some ice on the roads but nothing too bad. Some flurries, but you couldn't call it snowing. Nice.

Today is a rest day before the Friday/Saturday back to back (for which the weather looks good.... THANK GOODNESS!!). Sunday will be 24 hours of living insanity-- so I might be incommunicado from Saturday evening until sometime Monday. There is a 50/50 shot I could be out of town next weekend, when I would do my final LLRs, in which case they get pushed to Monday/Tuesday.

Ok, I better try and get a little more studying done....

Kevin :earsboy:

Howard & Kevin - Okay you two I am offically lime green with jealousy. My finals aren't over until Dec 20th :headache: Thankfully I then have a 2wk break as year end/audit/tax is just around the corner :headache: I'm going to double my load so that I can complete my MBA early (should graduate at the end of June) - where is the begging smilie when I need one :confused3 :teeth:

Had a good 5 miler this morning. I'm like most of the rest of ya'll in full eating mode right now. Don't put food near me if you expect it to be there when you return! :rotfl2: But now after Christa's post of how many calories we're burning, I deserve all of those cookies, right? ;)

Oh, and last night before DH went to work, I recalled my story of the TM shutting off on me to him. And what did he do--just laugh! I told him that I could have really hurt myself--but he goes "you didn't right?" Well, no--so he said that since I wasn't hurt he could laugh! I still don't think it's funny

Heather--thanks for the link on the shoes--like I need another pair of shoes, but DH gave me the go ahead, so I ordered them. I had a shoe discussion with my dad this past weekend, and he thinks I should scrap the Nike's anyway. He says the toe box is too small for me--so New Balance is wider--we'll see. If nothing else, I'll sport those Lime green shoes in support of my WISH buddies!

Time to hop in the shower! Hope everyone has a great day! And for those of you in the snow and cold--stay warm and safe. :sunny:

Stephanie

MelR, good for you getting your ressie straightened. Lucky for them it wasn’t the taper madness person with whom they spoke.

Dave, thanks for posting up The Penguin info for us stalkers.

Krista, Yay! For new shoes. Tee hee on newfies wearing zebra tights. Whoa on your “goat.” I’ve heard bad stories on what those pups might eat. Don’t let him outta your sight near rocks, bricks, ummmm or anywhere.

Christa, thanks for posting up those links. Good luck with the half and the $$$$. I’m cheap here and have been saving my $ cuz I know I will be spending for stuff in Jan.

Mel, good you could run those 2 miles, sorry about the foot problems still being a problem. Orthotics, would hope you could get things resolved way before the race. Seems like it’s gonna be a close call though.

Howard, I have some thoughts I’ll be sending your way. You do have good base and I know you will finish. There is no question. Good luck with the finals.

Craig, I love to read your posts. You are truly inspirational.

Amy, yup! You too, you will finish. You might need to be a bit slower, but you will get there.

Jodi, good luck with your therapist apt and the trainer. I’m sure you will make it race weekend. With all the hype you’ll be feeling you will amaze yourself as you fly through the events.

Kristi, good luck with your XT. Whoa! DS and DH would have loved to have gotten to see Petty like that. They would have known, not me.

Carrie, our posts “whacked?” Whadaya mean?

Hi Heather, like those shoes. None in my size though. Whew! I’m glad. I’m trying to keep my spending down so for the Jan event will have more $$$ then.

Wendy, the pics on tricharlotte are cool. How fun was that!

Kim, glad you’re sticking with us. You will be in this frenzy before you know it. It will be fun for you.

Cam, your 8 will be a cake walk this weekend. Take it easy and enjoy the steps. I think you need them to de-stress some.

Judy, bring it all and bring it in the carry on! (Traveling for events according to “The Penguin.”) That’s what I did last year. You can better decide the night before when you are preparing that way. For the half last year I wore tights. Wear what makes you happy.

Kevin, good luck with the finals. Not a shy guy? Ok then Mr. Par-tay!

Stephanie, yup! Cookies are deserved…Mmmm!

Suzy, wow! Those finals are late. Good luck with them. You will be enjoying your time off January for sure coming right from brain drain.

Lots of snow here. I did TM last night. I coud feel stiffness in the knee so just took it slow and stead for the required time and stretched lots. I’m wondering about this and if I’m going to have to really be back of the pack majorly over this. Oh well, whatever I am going to make it. I know! Had Christmas party last night and one tonight to the TM time is very needed these days. I look forward to 8 miles outside this weekend. I hope it can be so; I don’t want to TM.
