Wk of Aug 13--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Okay - So as promised here is the deal with DH's surprise.

Last Friday, I took off from work to set up the suprise (that and to finally do some running around that I needed to do).

I decided to make it Disney/Mardi Gras themed since we will be staying at POFQ. Days earlier I had gone to Borders and found this great CD with all New Orleans type music on it (proceed going to the people of New Orleans), had that playing in the background.

I tried so hard to get Beignets (no luck) so of course I brought Italian pastries from a local store and a couple of Panini's (for Dinner) for Dinner.

Now, you may ask why did you do this so early --- well, 1.) I kept on slipping up when I was talking to him.....that and somehow, I started talking in my sleep :sad2: 2.) Delta rescheduled his flight and I so wanted to just make it a morning flight but wanted the go ahead with DH. The flight that I had scheduled him on was supposed to leave CT at 6:30ish -- Delta moved it up to 4:00ish.....So why bother going into work? :confused3

Okay - so I'm rampling here.....let me show you some pictures:
DH SURPISE!!! BTW, sorry for the duplicate pictures....yahoo was acting a little funny the day that I updated.

Oh - by the way, DH will be rescheduling to leave in the morning.

Dave Did you ever break the news to you wife? I'm so out of touch here on the boards.

Well, I will try and read some more before I head in for bed.

Jodi

Wow Sunny... :grouphug:

I wish there was some faster, easier answer for you. Train safe and do what you need to do. I recall you were once told your legs would never allow you to run, but don't push to a worsening injury for your back.

We're all here for you.

yes, that was Dr. Dumb-dumb, the vice chair of Lahey's Ortho & Sports Med.

I think I need to name this one Dr. NoVision, or rename myself HearsWhatSheWantsToHear!

I couldn't agree more! :goodvibes Although, I love the idea of you coming to Disney --- after all I couldn't have started the whole running thing without you Sunny! Remember I followed you onto the boards.....I know things will improve for you -- but please, please don't push too hard.

Take care of Sunny :grouphug:

plutosmyfav - :grouphug:

My DH has two bulging discs - L4-L5, L5-S1. He has had two epidural shots. The shots helped him for a while but then the pain comes back. Amazingly enough, Celebrex has really helped him. Even with the shots, he has still had some discomfort but with the Celebrex - very, very little discomfort. In addition, he gets a bi-monthly message - that seems to help as well.

By the way, DH does not run any longer due to knee problems but he still rides in bike races.

Take care and good luck! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Sunny - I am so sorry! :grouphug: I can't imagine what you are feeling right now, but please know we are all here to support you! I don't know if this will help or not, but my mom had that exact surgery 3 years ago. She had been in horrible agony for so long, but as soon as she woke up from the surgery, she cried because she finally felt no pain. She says now that she would encourage anyone to go ahead and have the surgery done - she still feels amazing! Anyway, I hope that was a little encouragement for you. You are so strong, and such an encouragement to so many of us! :grouphug:

Hey everyone! :wave2: You all are doing so well on your training!!! (I wish I could say the same. ) Keep up the great work!!!! I can't wait to see many of you at DL, and again in January!

Okay, back to lurk-mode. ;)

Had to run on treadmill last night. Right knee really gave me a hard time so didn't get distance in.
mile 1 15:01
mile 2 14.12
Decided to stop there so wouldn't have trouble today. It's a little stiff so I'm gonna rest today & try an easy 2 tomorrow. Hopefull will be back to full strength for LR this weekend. Keep moving forward, no matter the pace!

judy : yes! i was at dutch springs. my sister and i were there july8-9th! it was pretty cool. the water wasn't very clear because it was the weekend right after that crazy rain that killed maryland. i guess it got pa pretty good too! but it was still neat. water was cold when we went deep but they had some fun stuff down in that lake! i don't have very much 'dive' stuff yet, but i'm sure it will begin to accumulate as soon as i bounce back from my money setbacks. i kind of just bought a new car so i'm a little broke at the minute... :rotfl:

i missed the chat last night! i totally forgot. i guess it was that whole dinner with the boy thing... hmmm i will have to make sure i'm around for the next one!

got about 3 miles in yesterday. did them as soon as i got home from work and then before i had to shower and get ready for the date. was about 22/23 min... not too shabby. didn't get a run in today. i was bad this morning and decided to sleep in a little. but i will be up and running my 5 tomorrow morning! :cheer2:

Sunny - :grouphug: Two thoughts went through my mind reading your post. The first was best wishes for you to have a complete recovery and to be able to cope with all of the challenges that are in front of you. Hang in there and you will make it. We are all here for you.

My second thought was one of inspiration. You are going to overcome pain and difficulties that I cannot even comprehend. You are putting your all into your training, and you are going to start training. I know a lot of people (myself included) that would have thrown in the towel and given up. The fact that you are standing up to your challenge and trying should be inspiration to us all. I know that when I am hurting at mile 22, I will think of you and your situation. That will give me the energy and the strength to make it.

As others have said too...don't push yourself too hard. Listen to your body and try not to do anything that will adversely affect your condition and your dr's proposed treatment.

Dave - thanks for the heads up on the SWA rates. I booked Albuquerque to Orlando for $109 non-stop. American was up over $420 round trip with a stop and layover in Dallas. We are flying back on Jan 10, so I will have to book the return flight when SW opens up the next block of dates.

Pungodingy - Congrats on starting. No one here will laugh at anyone's training. Everyone starts somewhere, and you have started ahead of what my wife and I were doing in January 2005. I completed the Goofy and she completed the Marathon January 2006. You have started, so :cheer2:

Gotta put my daughter to bed. But first, a little extra PD for Sunny :wizard:

Paul

Sunny, :grouphug: :grouphug:

Please take it easy! Just take things nice and slow and if you have to wait until 2008 for Goofy, so be it.

I may not be able to do Goofy this year either, I wish I could defer my Goofy entry until 2008. Because of personal reasons, I have 'almost' come to terms with the fact I may not be able to run it. It is really killing me, but I need to take care of things on the homefront first.

Goofy will always be there for years to come!

Hi Everyone -- Here is my attempt at catching up on posts.....Sorry if I missed anyone.....I'm trying :goodvibes

My burning question this week. I have noticed with these longer running intervals, my first few start out too fast. I actually have to slow myself down to get into a pace I won't burn out. Toward the end, I seem to settle more efficiently (more tired then?). Anyone have any suggetions on how to settle into a consistent, more maintainable pace early on?
I’m curious about this too!

Welcome – Janet/ sjams

Pat – Love the pictures! Thank you so much for sharing

Pat - Congrats on the CDC. Can you post a pic of the Penguin medal? Blisters stink! At the Goofy this year, I got a huge blood blister on the side of my heel. It was a little painful and after I took my running shoes off, I couldn't put a full shoe on again for almost a week. It was clogs or flip flops only.
Oh no! blisters are the worst! Has anyone used Bodyglide…..do you find that it works? I’m just curious….I was thinking about purchasing it.

Question/HUGE favor -- Does anyone have a calendar/spread sheet set up that has the MfM Walk the Full Marathon laid out on it?
I was trying to put my plan together at work today (I haven’t been super busy all week) but wouldn’t you know – It was busy as all get out.

Jodi, well you answered my question b4 I asked. Sorry you felt you needed to leave employment there, but I guess I won't be trying either. Thanks for that.
Lily, every place is different….. It might work for you, but honestly I would focus on your training and getting proper rest, etc. My family, husband, and friends all got super worried about me with a second job. I tried and it and decided, well….I’m investing all of this money in myself and basically wrecking chances of me doing well in the event….so the job just had to go.

Today was a rest day, which turned out to be a good thing since I woke up with a wicked headache. I'm sure it had nothing to do with last night as DH was trying to read in bed, I was playing with my Garmin, figuring out how to set the intervals. Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Poor guy, the things he puts up with!
Judy – you’re so funny….I think the same thing about Bob and I. Hey, which Garmin do you have? I have the 101? I really want to upgrade.

Jodi - Those sound like fun! WTG fo rsigning up for TNT too!
Yeah, it should be fun!

Jodi -- Looks like you will have a busy fall here. Good luck with all of them.
Yeah – Fall is my favorite…..and I love to stay busy! Hopefully, January in Disney is somewhat like Fall time…..that would be perfect weather (too bad we can’t order the weather we want) :wizard: :wizard:

Chat was really cool last night! Do y'all want to make this a weekly thing? Would any other night be better for the group?
I didn’t get to join in last night but would love to if we make it a weekly thing. :goodvibes

Well, I have to go for the night - - Have a great Friday everyone!

Jodi

jodi: did you surprise him with a trip to disney world? i'm a little confused :rotfl:
if you did that's cool! that's what my mom and i are doing for my dad for his birthday! it's in november. we're going the last weekend in october because his birthday is right before thanksgiving so we're trying to work against when we think there will be lots of crowds. that and i want to go to mnsshp :goodvibes
it's been fun trying to plan it! but i have to put everything on my card so he doesn't know about it. we're just going to tell him he has to pack his bags a day or two before hand. i've booked the room, got the mnsshp tickets and i got their plane tickets. i just have to get my plane tickets and then we're set!

Sunny - :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: What everyone else said. I wish I had the words to take all your hurt away. You are an amazing woman. Remember that.

jodi -Very cool surprise!

colleeen - Chat is very esy! Hope you can make it next time

Mel - Right after the marathon, I had a follow-up cholesterol check. Not good. Iw as given 6 months to do better. Go tthe results back Tuesday. I did ok adn am very close to teh acceptable level. I also only took one point off hdl and 30+ off of ldl. Unfortunately, I seem to have substituted sugar for fat and my triglycerides went up. I know hoe you feel. :( I'm on day 4 of eating better. Care to join me? (Yes, I actually started 1.5 days eebfore teh results came back.)

Sunny, and many more hugs to you. I'm so sorry you are going through this. You will prevail. Just don't do more than you should. My DBro had laminectomy long ago. He is back to running again, not as fast but still at it. With the no weight bearing insturctions do you think since you are still determined to participate that you could slow way down and use the 7 hours? Hope you find a solution and that it comes to the best conclusion for you. We are here too. I know you understand if you need to vent we'll listen.

Cam, thinking of you for tomorrow's experience. to you and Howard.

Gotta get now, will continue tomorrow.

Thanks for the notes everyone. I am sure tomorrow will go fine, I am sure there will be some tears flowing...happy ones.

I'll check back again soon. I am sure I am going to do another LR on Saturday with Cam.

:grouphug:

Howard

Just checking in, today. No training to report for me today. Sorry I missed the chat last night. I totally forgot. :guilty:

Pungodingy - welcome. You've already conquered the hardest part - getting started. just work slowly at building your base. You have plenty of time to get ready for 2008.

Jodi
- Cool pics of hubby's birthday surprise. Don't know if I missed an earlier post, but what was his reaction?

Sunny - sorry to hear the news wasn't what you were hoping for. :wizard: and :grouphug: Don't overdo it. Take it slow and you can hang at the back of the pack with us 7 hour people! :teeth:

Yes, sorry I forgot that some people on the boards haven't read about the planning :teeth: . Sorry about that!

I surprised him with the basket full of Disney souveniers, a Passporter (that had all of the tickets in it). He is so thrilled that he will now be going in January with me. :goodvibes

Oh - he loved it! He was a little shocked and for a little bit didn't know quite what to say, but since then he has been spending more time on the different Disney Web Sites than I do :rotfl: . I'm so glad that he will be going :woohoo: My cheerleader :cheer2: :cloud9: .

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

Had my x-country race last night, and I had a great run!!!  First of all, I didn't get lost!!! Yes, this is the 3rd week in a row I've run the course, and this was the first time I completed the whole course. Whoo hoo!!! My Garmin said I did 3.09 miles in 32:19 min/10:28 mpm pace. I pretty much did a 10r/1w pace. My first walk came right at 1 mile which corresponded with a BFH, and then I did my second walk at 20 min. My legs felt OK too!!! I having some blisters on the bottom of my right foot that I need to keep taping up, but all and all my run was really good.

The princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:, really impressed me too. When we got there they said they were tired and only wanted to do the 150m lollypop dash. I said that was fine - I don't want to push them too hard with this because I want it to be fun for them. So they ran the lollypop dash which is the first kids race. Then DD8 princess: lined up and ran the next race which was a 1/4 mile. Then both princesses, DD5 princess: and DD8 princess:, lined up and ran the 3rd kids race which was a 1/2 mile. I was blown away. DD8 princess: ran 3 races in a row! She came in last in the 1/2 mile, but she didn't get discouraged at all. I walked with her some, and ran across the finish line with her. They did super.

The whole family went to Friendly's afterwards and celebrated with dinner and ice cream, yum!

OK, I want to catch up with everyone else now.
