Wk of Apr 29--WISH Walking/Running Club

Mel - You know, I feel the same way. I swore I would never ever want to do a full. But it's that medal that is getting me. And I am thinking I may have to eat some crow when everyone laughs at me for signing (family and friends, not you guys). I was almost convinced until me foot issues. Now I wonder how I can train in snow with those 20 mile LR's, I'm a cold wimp. I was hoping to wait until after May 20 when I do my 1/2 marathon, but now I just might not have that choice. I know I sound like a broken record, but i have to think it all through and convince myself. Everytime I see those percentages I get panicky!

Oh and Mel - Is the Pirate and Princess party worth it? Do the kids get any goodies or trinkets or is it just a party and you get to ride the rides late? They extended it and now it is available when we go in August. The price is killing me, so I want don't want to pay for something that is not totally worth it.

No time to respond to everyone, but
Cindy -- those pix are great! The kids are adorable and the memory will be priceless!
Martha -- thank you so much for your support and encouragement! I am so grateful for my WISH teammates!
Lily -- Happy anniversary to you and Ted!! :lovestruc

Took a rest day yesterday (Sunday), and headed out for a 5K this afternoon. I used the Virtual Training Partner on my Garmin (such a cool little tool) and set the pace time at 15:45. My goal was to be consistent for the whole distance, instead of going fast at the begining and slowing down at the end. I figured 15:45 would be a good pace for me to hold without dying.

I stayed ahead of my fake training buddy the whole time, and ended up with a 5K time of 47:50 (or about 15:24 mpm). The best part was I felt great the whole time. I was listening to good music and had a smile on my face...and didn't feel like dying after. It was a good day.

I also wanted to say thank you to everyone here. I know I'm super slow, but you guys make me feel like a real athlete. I'm in constant awe at how amazing everyone of you is (8 minute mile runs? 13 minute mile walks? I can't even imagine!), and yet I'm treated as one of you, not a slug puttering along. I was thinking about it on my walk, and actually was getting a little emotional. So thank you all!

Stephanie Enjoy that shortcake! I'm jealous :thumbsup2 That's a great run too. Nice work :cheer2:

Mel Wow, one more run before the Minnie, seems like you're all prepared! Good luck!

Lily Congrats and happy anniversary, what's a better way to celebrate than running your tushie off :rotfl:

Laurie I haven't said congrats on your race yet--so :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: . Good for you for getting some rest in :)

Jen I love Family Guy, thanks for the link!

Cindy Such a cute family, looks like a bunch of ducklings in a row :rotfl:

Big Vic Hope XT went well!

jeanneg Fantastic Job! I'm so happy for you and glad that you did so well. I can't wait for my first race:)

Carrie thanks for the advice! I know you're right, I took a rest Sunday, and today's workout was MUCH better! Have a great time at the Minnie.

Nancy Congrats to you too. What an accomplishment! Thanks for the inspiration.

Oh, one more wonderful thing to share:
30 years ago today DH were enjoying our wedding day! This year we've been celebrating all year long too!
Happy Anniversary!
Yesterday was my parents' anniversary also. Must have been a good day to tie the knot, huh?

I spent a couple hours with the rhematologist yesterday. Nothing exciting to report, except that Brigham & Womens Hospital is a zoo & people who work in Boston hospitals are pretty rude! So, I didn't get home until very late from Boston and did not do my "stretching & strengthening."

I will get in my 3 miler today though!

ETA: I just saw the half is 75% full!!! ACK! I don't know what to do! I am seriously contemplating only doing the 5k this January. But if I am there....should I do the half? In any case, i will be there since Chad is going Goofy again. Ugh. I didn't think I'd have to decide in May for goodness sakes!

A quick post before going to work.

I was able to get in 3.25 miles last night with a 10:44 pace. I think that will probably be the last run before Minnie now. I am going to try to get out on the bike a time or two but I will wait to see how the little one reacts to that plan.

I took a brief glance at the packing list for this weekend and it looks like it would be easier to move our house over than try to pack everything. :lmao: The bad part was the list didn't include anything for Lynnda or me. For those staying at POR, I will give you fair warning that the resort may sink into the river around the area that we are in. :rolleyes1

Bill

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

30 min SWOG for me with lots of stretching before and afterwards yesterday. I think I'm going to stick with the deep water runs this week to get the legs all healed up before the Flying Pig 1/2 on Sunday. Maybe I'll do a short 2 miler or something this week - we'll see :confused3.

Hah, Jen- that video cracked me up, thanks. You can definitely train in the snow for the full. If you put your mind to it, you can do it Jen you have a good base now. Your foot issues are nothing to take lightly though. If it helps you at all, I really didn't run all of June and July because of my shins in getting ready for the full last year.

Laurie- Take it easy after your race. Good for you for giving your body time to recover.

Lily- Happy Anniversary. Congratulations on 30 years!

Mel- Nice job on your 30 min. WTG! :thumbsup2

Whoa Stephanie- 8:19 pace?!? WTG :thumbsup2 you're flying out there girl!

Hi Cam, Judy, and Carrie - you girls be good at the Minnie.

bekiz- you are an athlete. No doubt about it, you are a member of our team and are now an endurance athlete.

Kristi- Good luck getting your 3 miler in today. You go girl.

Bill- Hah, good luck with all the packing.

Hi Cam, Judy, and Carrie - you girls be good at the Minnie.
And would we be any other way? :rolleyes1 :teeth: You Flying Pig-ers have fun and be good too!

Krista - You gonna' be able to keep everyone in line? ;) Did you hear anything on SHari yesterday? We'ren't more test results due back? So good of your family to clean for her!

bekkiz- Congrats on the great run!!!! Fake partner? :lmao:

Remind me? For whom did we have a funeral when they lost their virtual runnign partner? :rotfl2: I want to say SUnny.

Sunny - How's that body after the LR?

Bill - Good thing I'm at OKW!!!! Good luck packing! DO they make U-hauls big enough? I still laugh at how many trips my brother had to make to the car to bring stuff in when my niece was first born. :p

Lily - Happy belated 30th!! Hope you did something fun!!!

Jen - Mickey's calling you..... I WISH you could come this weekend too!!!!!:goodvibes

Stephanie - :faint:

Well, teh lightning canceled last night's 30 min. If it rains again tonight, we'll go to the TM. :guilty: IMy leg feels really good today, which scares me, as I have not run since Thursday, so running could be making it worse. I have teh video gait analysis today. Won't fix me for the Minnie, but at least I may get some answers. Still don't meet with teh DO until mid May. Debatign on calling the doc to see if there's anything I can take fo nerve pain to get me through teh Minnie. I hate to do that, but I want to stay with my pacing partner. :( I don't think she'll like the look I get when it hurts. ;)

Don't have time to respond to everyone, but I'll try to catch up tonight!

Christa - Lots of prayers and good luck for you this week. And we told you that you were fast! (And apparently we have fast dogs on the team too!)

Krista - Who knew Hines could run a 5K too?

Jeanne & Nancy - Congrats on finishing your half and not being last!

Kristi - Not that I'm recruiting for the half or anything... but we need some WISH team members doing the half too!

Cindy - Your pictures are so cute!

Bekkiz - You are an athlete. I felt the same last year when I could only run for one block, and this morning I ran 3.5 miles on the TM and only stopped for 1 minute to walk! This team will absolutely get you there.

Wanted to do 4 miles on the TM this morning, but realized that it's just not possible to get up at 5:00, warm up, run 4, stretch, shower, and still have DD at school by 7:15! Had to settle for 3.5, but did that in 40:00 (11:43 avg). Ran most of it at 5.2, but at every half mile upped the speed to 6.0 for 1:00 or 1:30. Walked for a minute at 2 miles, but other than that ran the entire time!

Gotta get to work!

Jackie

Bill - Thanks for the heads up! I'll be at POR as well so I'll be sure watch out if I start to get that sinking feeling.

I have to pack tonight too. I have no idea how much stuff I'll wind up bringing!! 24 hours and I'm on a plane to WDW. :woohoo:

Today I have a 5 miler planned that I'll try to squeeze into my lunch break. Here's a question for you guys. Thursday is supposed to be a 3 mile run. Since I'm running the 5K on Saturday, then doing the Minnie 15K on Sunday should I forgo the Thursday run? Or just do a short run to aclimatize myself to FL? What do you guys think?

Leana--I would do something easy--just to get a feel for what the weather is going to be like--since you're coming from Canada, could be a little shock to the system!;)

Bill--LOL about the packing. I can laugh because I've been in that same place WAY too often. I'm jazzed about this trip, b/c w/o the kiddos DH and I don't have to check any bags--no carseats, no diapers, no port-a-crib, no strollers, etc, etc, etc.......We should make it through security in record time!

Ugh, Friday won't get here soon enough! Too bad I actually have responsibilites between now and then;) Speaking of responsibilities, I guess I should stop neglecting my kids:rolleyes1 ;) :rolleyes1

Just got back from my run. I was trying to just have an easy run so I slowed down the pace a bit. JRT was with me and we had a great time...not breathing hard at all.
Here is the DL!
6.6 miles out and back...
total time: 58:24
out: 30 min.....9:05 MPM
back: 28:24 min....8:36 MPM

Bill - :rotfl: I totally understand about packing! We took DD9 to WDW for the 1st time when she was 3 months old! WOW we took ALOT!

Leana - IMO....You could do a really easy run. But, now that I think about it...1 run may not make that much of a difference in getting you ready to run in warmer weather. It may be better to save your legs and rest....That is what I would do...in fact, that is what I did b/4 WDW this year. I had trained in the cold and WDW07 was HOT...I don't think 1 run in warm weather would have helped or better prepared me to run in the heat. But like I said, that is just my humble opinion. Different people may disagree.

Jackie - WTG on the run this morning!

Lily- Happy Anniversary. 30 years! That ROCKS! Did you get married when you were 5 b/c you look so young!:cool2:

Dave, Krista, Steve, and anyone else doing the PIG! Lots of :wizard: :wizard: to you! I will be there in spirit!

Whoo hooo... :cool1: great run Christa. I'm hoping I can get my easy run pace down to sub 9 mpm sometime. After the Pig this weekend, I'm going to start putting in some speedwork into my routine to see if I can start getting my pace down a little. We'll be thinking of you this weekend.

Good morning Team -

I did only 2 miles on the TM this morning. I'm as ready as I'll ever be for the Minnie on Sunday. That is, unless I can get some serious liposuction between now and then. :rolleyes2 But, it is what it is. I'll do my best.

Yesterday we were going somewhere and there was some road construction going on and the workers had on bright neon lime green shirts and Charlie said "Look! WISHers!"

To everyone doing The Pig this weekend - Best of luck to you all! :woohoo: I expect lots and lots of pictures please!

Lilly - A belated happy anniversary to you both! :bride:

Dave - Awww, do we HAVE to behave??? :yay:

Bill - Maybe you should rent a truck. A big one. :lmao:

Carrie - I hope the gait analysis goes really well and you get some answers. :wizard:

Kristi - Oh come on, you KNOW you wanna do the Half....You'll be there anyway, you might as well. Go register, will ya please??? :rolleyes1

Judy - If you don't want to behave, then the least you can do is raise a glass in my honor since I can't be there!! "K"!!!! :lmao:

Bill - We took DD when she was 6 months and the other DD was 3... we decided we had to drive from Wisconsin because we had so much stuff. Then when we got there, it took 2 carts to drag all our stuff up to the room... quite embarrassing. But we had everything we could have ever needed.

Christa - You are the speed demon queen... or is is Evil Speed Demon Queen, with your trusty side kick JRT.

Leana - MfM says to do and east 20 minues the day before the race. This year I didn't as I walked int eh parks so much that day. lAst year I did. Doing it Thursday sound sliek a good idea to me.

OK, back from gait analysis. Very cool. Did all kinds of checks on my biomechanics and then did TM. OK, had to tuck my shirt in in the bnack while walking on TM. OK, I was being watched and had to try to do something while walking. TM fear came back. :-O Did ok. Here's the scoop. My right foot does not supinate or pronate. SOunds good, you say? Does to me, but it's not. Your foot should pronate slightly after inpact adn supinte slightly on the way back up. It's your own pwersonal shock absorbing system. Well, I have none on my right fott. Lands on teh outside and stays there all the way. Solutions? Custom or semi-custom orthodics with just arch support on teh left ($300) or semi-custome ($65). Won't get the stuff for semi-custom until next week. :-( I'd like to get by w/semi-custom. If that does not work, I'll do custom, but want to hold off on that until I meet with the DO. So, in the meantime, they will call my running store (just a coincidence that seh works with on eof the owners) and see if they have somethign OTC that I can use just in my right shoe for now. She was afraid that'd throw me off, but that leg is shorter anyway. Funny, before I saw anyone, I told Scottt that I thought about just putting an insert into one shoe. lol.

HI TEAM!! GOOD LUCK in the upcoming runs!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :woohoo:

In my 4th week of training. I increased my distance to 2.5 miles, and it felt good... or ok.. I DID IT! Time was app 30 min - then I did a cool down of about 5 min. I have to focus on today, looking at that big picture (half marathon in Jan) is daunting. I do think I will try and enter a 5K in June (and I've NEVER ever done a racing event!)

thanks for the support, advice, and posting your experiences!!

eeyore - Do not dwell upon teh big picture! One step at a time. I don't even advise looking at your trainign schedule more than a week in advance. If I go into a lr thinking how long I will be out there or how far 'til the end, I get overwhelmed, even though I've done 2 marathons. I set mini goals (mile marks, top of a hill or, if it's really tough, one more step). You will get there, just kkeep putting in the step!

Wow, I'm trying to catch up here, but you guys are a talkative bunch!

Laurie: Congrats on your first half-marathon and an EXCELLENT time! Doesn't it feel so good to have it all behind you?

eeyore45: congrats on your stepped up training. You're going to be awesome in the 5K!

Christa: you continue to amaze me......can I please have a little of your speed?

Jen: love the Family Guy link!

Cam: shirts are in the mail.....I sent them priority so I hope they arrive before you leave for the Minnie.

Lily: Happy Anniversary....you're still my hero for getting me hooked on all this!

Bekkiz: 15:24 is a fabulous pace......keep it up...you're doing great! When is your first race? Don't worry about any of the Disney events....the support from this group will get you through whatever it is you have to do.

Jen: come on, sign up for the full.....we're all in this together....besides nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Good luck to all the flying pigs and minnie-thoners!

If I missed anybody, I apologize.....it's hard to keep up!

Cam: shirts are in the mail.....I sent them priority so I hope they arrive before you leave for the Minnie.

Thank you so much, Jeanne! I just promised one of my current shirts to another Minnie participant. If the 2 you sent get back to me in time, I'll take them along in case anyone else would like to borrow one. :thumbsup2

I just posted my first race report on the other thread. If I left anything out, maybe Nancy can fill it in.
