Hi TEAM! I need to run to a 1:30p meeting, but here's what the socks could look like in all green. What do you all think?

I love 'em. You can never have too much lime green!!

Hi everyone! I have made it back to civilization. It was a whirl wind trip and I am so glad to be back. There is no direct route to Greenwood, SC. It only took 6 1/2 hrs to get there but it felt like 12. Needless to say I didnt have any time for training. I am getting right back into the schedule tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for you thoughts & prayers. It means alot to me to be a part of such a wonderful gorup. It was a sad weekend, but he has been so bad off for so long I really feel he is in a better place now. And of course you dont feel pain when you are there so he is better off. It was hard for me to see my dad so upset. He held it together pretty well except when we saw him for the last time before they closed the casket & started the service. And then there were the 400 million questions about death, burial, funerals, caskets, etc we had to answer from DS5....... what their little minds come up with :confused3

Well got to go get things ready for the rest of the week.

Glad to "see" everyone again!

Nancy - Congrats on signing up for the Minnie! DH and I will see you at the 5k!

Diane & Amy - I suffer from the same pace problem. I'm too new at this to be as obsessed with pace as I am, but I'm always trying to do a better time than the run before. I should leave the watch at home and run and enjoy it.

Amy - Yea for standing up to the bully. Too many people are just rude.

Kimwim8 - Welcome! This group will give you lots of inspiration.

Dave - Green is good, white is better...

Jodi - Guess we can sit around and do nothing together for a few days. Hope your ankle feels better soon.

I kept the calf wrapped all day today and have ice on it again tonight. It feels better today than yesterday, so I'm hoping that this is a good sign.
Going to fix dinner now...

I guess so - although, I really do want to get out :) Spring Fever I guess.

Today by the end of the day my ankle started to feel better but I didn't want to push it......hopefully starting Friday I can get back to some sort of running - I don't think it was anything too serious. I didn't have any swelling but I definitely wanted to listen to my body.

Hope your calf is feeling better soon! Isn't it the worst just sitting around - I think I'm driving my husband crazy.......I'm playing too much Disney stuff ::MickeyMo

HI everyone. I have been working late the last two nights and getting very crabby. I did leave work today and went to Y (came back to work afterwards). I did 20 minutes of elliptical and 20 minutes on the treadmill. I haven't done anything since my 3 miles on Saturday.

I also have a 3 year old that will not go to bed at night. She is giving me a headache from you know where. It's constant crying and screaming and running around. It's like her world is ending because it's bed time. I need a vacation from her!

Jodi - I hope the ankle feels better soon!!!

Amy - I am so glad to hear that someone else will stand up to the bullies!! WAY TO GO!!! :woohoo:

Minnie - I really want an MP3 player. Hubby just told me that although ipod is very popular, it is not the best one out there. He said they just had a great marketing campaign that got lots of sales. He is looking into a Sony one for me. I have no clue on the price, but he said it will also pick up radio, which is nice at the Y because you can listen to TV on radio stations.

kimwim8 - I am doing my first 5K in May. Nice to have another beginner in the ranks!!! :wave2:

OK gotta run, I have a headache to nurse.

Tiff - I had to drive my 6 YO niece and 5 and 2 YO nephews home from ehir other grandfathers funeral while the others went ot teh cvemetery. That was one of the hardest things I've ever done. I was unusually close to my SIL's father, so their questions killed me and it was a short drive. :grouphug: Hope things get better ofr you soon!

Sunny - Have I mentioned how good it is to have you back? ;) I think you should take lessons from Kevin. Then I could ocme see you too!

Jenn - I SO understand. Hope it lests up soon!

Jodi - Hope the ankle gets better soon.

MDM - Glad teh calf feels better. Keep taking it easy, though.

Dave - What Pat said!! :teeth:

OK, I did my 30 minutes today. FIrst half was head on into the wind. As soon as I turned around, I was HOT! Oh, I did notice a big DST byproduct. I left my house and realized I actually need my sunglassess again. Still nto worht the loss of sleep, though. ;) And here I am. Up way past my bedtime again.

DH had a headache, so it was kind of nice to get out the MP3 and be on my own for a bit. (Not too often, though, as my butt would never make it off the couch!) I heard this song again adn realized that we have not had any poetry or inspiration in a while. So, it's a repeat for teh od timers, but it was such an inspiration to me last year that I want to share again.

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
Im just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you can not find
Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you can not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
But the rest is still unwritten

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten
The rest is still unwritten
The rest is still unwritten
Apologies to those of you who hoped we were doen with Ice Princess songs. It's all Cam's fault. ;)

Ok I believe it's Carrie that recently had the PB or PR on the most replies in a thread or something. So Carrie I am not. Someday maybe I'll work my way up to getting everyone but WOW! I'll have to stick with a few and short replies till I get a stack of post-its ;)

K hase, Kristi, Jody and Jackie - Hope your all feeling better soon!!!

Clair & Lynnda: Chocolate chip pancakes are tasty :) My Mom used to make them when I was little so I grew up having them and found my local Coney place has them on the menu. Thankfully most times after a park visit I do behave and go with an omlet or if it's later in the day with regular food. I'm way to bad with sugary things, my downfall.

Quote from Sunny " Lynda-- you brought up an exellent point newbies should heed: Force yourself to take a short easy run for the pure joy of it. Especially as training kicks into high gear, its so easy to get obsessed over improving speed and distance that all the fun is drained." ..... Extremely true.... My name is DianeL and I'm Pace Obsessed.

Sunny? Have you watched the CD yet? I thought it was pretty kewl. :)

Clair: I didn't know the Garmin's would chirp at you if you were under or over pace. How kewl! I looked a bit again at them tonight. Maybe I'll put that on my Christmas list ;)

Clair, Amy and Jackie? I'd say perhaps there is a support group for those obsessed with their pace but I think we found it LOL

Tonight Susan and I managed to get in 6 miles walking at what I figured was a *shudder* 20 minute pace. Ok. It was a 34* windchill. It was snowing (ok, flurries but snowing sounds worse and therefore makes the pace better LOL). Actually, we had an enjoyable walk and both felt great afterwards if not frozen. Susan's foot started out doing good but somewhere along the path it started hurting again. I can't wait till her Doc's appt but that isn't until the week of Easter.

If the weather allows we'll probably try for another 6 miles on Thursday. Hopefully I can talk DH into a walk Wednesday, he can walk the dog and then I can try a spot of running. Our park has markers 400' apart so I was doing 400' run / 400' walk when I was warmed up before the Half but haven't done much more then an occasional run with the cold since. I felt like running a bit early on in our run this afternoon but held back. Which is stupid because one of the great things about Susan is she totally understands if one of us wants to run ahead a bit it's totally fine. She's finished 5Ks before me and I've done some ahead of her. We're usually close in our time though but are both ok with the other pulling ahead if they feel the urge and up to it. So perhaps if it's warmer on Thursday I'll start adding in more running.

Oh and the park report: If there were 20 other people in the park this evening I'd be surprised. We had huge lengths of the path to ourselves. A couple of dogs which are always a great diversion. We haven't come across a bad one yet, they've all been so friendly and entertaining :)

Oh and I didn't do the ellip. machine on Monday night.

Happy Training!!!

Hi Everyone!

Just checking in before going to bed. Got no workout in today and am feeling crappy about it. :guilty: Had a project at work that had some glitches and spent most of the day into the evening getting it fixed. By the time I got home I was mentally drained.

Did anyone get the photomosaic poster from the WDW marathon? I did and there are a bunch of Wish-ers in the poster. The bright shirts make it easy to pick you guys out. My pic was taken during the 1/2, when I had a sweatshirt on, so my shirt doesn't show up. Just wish I knew which of you are in the pics.

A question for those who wear fuel belts. Can you put liquid into the little squeeze bottles? Or just gels? I don't like the waistbelts where the water bottle sits in the holder-type pocket. I have yet to find one that doesn't bounce. I also get tired of carrying the bottle (s) when I run. I though I might be able to wear a fuel belt if I could put Gatorade or water into it. I just don't want it to leak out all over me.
Any suggestions?

Terri

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:

I had a great run yesterday! Yay! I had not run since Saturday - so I had 2 rest days: Sunday volunteering at the race with the princesses princess: princess: a and full rest day Monday. My shins were a little sore, but my breathing felt very relaxed. I did ~3 miles (I don't know for sure I need to drive it with my car) in 32 min. It was cold out, but the sun was shining and felt great.

Thanks for the replies about the socks. It sounds like the white ones are the favorites, and I think with the green on the cuff there will be plenty of green for those who want it. I may try to post a poll or something to see how many we need to order.

Morning Everyone,

Wow - this week is really flying. I've been super busy at work with no signs of it letting up.

My ankle is feeling much, much better but I want to give it until Friday and then I will hopefully get to go outside running (really trying to stay away from the threadmill).

Tonight I will probably to some Pilates, I was going to do them the past couple of nights but I got into starting to put together my scrapbook of our last disney trip. I still have to get some photos printed (got to love getting prints done at Target - really cheap, good quality).

Well, hopefully tonight I will be able to catch on posts of today......I won't get to do any reading at work  . Have a great day everyone

Jodi

Good morning all, I thought I posted my report yesterday but didn't due to having to get DS 6 to doc - he is running a 102 fever with lots of coughing. Sorry for the downer start so I will get on with it.

Welcome KIM!!!

Anyway my report for yesterday: went outside at lunch for my run and ran strait into a headwind of 20to 30 MPH. I almost turned aroubnd and went back in the gym for a treadmill run but figured what the heck the wind will be at my back on the return trip. Pounded myself into the ground again - when will I learn to relax - and covered my 4.3 mile course in 31:20. Hey that is right on the 7:30 pace I need for Broad Street. OK, I am not as bone headed as I thought.

Terri... I use amphipod. You snap in the water flasks, you slightly squeeze the flaskes to release them from their cradles. They have fairly wide mouths to make filling and cleaning easy. No problem filling them with either water or a sports drink. They have smaller versions for gel. The flasks have spouts so once pushed down the water doesn't come out. I've only had 1 problem so far with water getting out and that was because I didn't push the spout closed completely. They also have a pouch which is nice for keys, I've also bought the larger pouch for a bit more room for my phone too, it fit in the small pouch but I worried it would fall out. I'm a worrier :) They have a website and there is another brand similar but I've only seen them on people and already had mine so didn't ask.

Jody.... I love Target's photo service! Very convenient :thumbsup2

Goofyguy... Excellent pace/time!!! :cheer2:

WISHsock2a.jpg

Hi Everyone: Well I discovered I do not know how to post a poll for the socks. :confused3 I've sent a PM to Liz asking how to do it. I've decided on the design above. It seemed to get the most positive responses. For the poll I just want to know what size and how many people want. There are 2 sizes; small/medium (fits sizes 6-10) and large/x-large (fits sizes 9-13). I don't yet know the exact price, but depending on how many total we order they will be about $5-7/pair.

Dave - I'll take 2 pair in the L/XL size.

:rotfl2:
9 times out of 10, that woudl eb a good thing! ;) Oh, I second the amphipod info.

Dave - To post a poll, just create a new thread. Near teh bottom tehre will be a "post a poll" option. FIll in yourt post, hit teh poll option adn select number of options wanted, hit submit and teh poll info will come up for you to complete.

Good afternoon!!

I have almost completely lost my voice from yelling at the television during last night's women's basketball championship game, so please improvise your own gravely sounding voice to my post.....

Sunny-- OK, you asked: My best time for a long-course 400m freestyle was 4:58. For a short-course 500yd it was a 4:46. Generally I swam sprints, though, so I didn't swim these distances often.

Carrie-- I had JUST gotten "Unwritten" out of my head and then I read your post. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! :rolleyes2 :teeth: They used that song for our WBB highlight video so it's been in my head for three days.

I just checked out that Amphipod thing and i have a question: with respect to the little pouches, would those be large enough for, say, sunglasses or are they pretty much gel-sized?? I'm looking to get away from the belt pack I used during last year's race to something a little smaller.

Planned run tonight is 3 miles. It's beautiful outside, if a little chilly, so it should be good!

Kevin (Solotraveler) :earsboy:

Sorry Kevin. I had never heard it on teh radio, tehn I heard it on my sacrapbooking weekend and it brought back fond memories. Then after hearing it last night.... Hey, at least you guys won so it's happy memories. Want to replace teh song? I just listened to Stupid Girls and, though I like what it has to say, I don't think I'll ever get it out of my head!

Amphipod. Sunglasses would be close. I'll try to remember to check tomorrow. Might be close for mine, but I'm thinking not for a guy's pair. I used mine for my camera. It's pretty small, though. What about one of those little clips like you use on your car visor? Could you clip that on your belt?

Advantage of running in pairs, dh had the water and Powerade, I had the fanny pack of other stuff.

Hi everyone!

I couldn’t wait to tell you all what happened last night. Remember the stolen MP3 planer? My gym called last night and said it was found :cool1: . It’s not an Ipod but it has all the features that I need on it. So Garmin Forerunner it is. Now all I need to do is decide which model to purchase

Carrie – Okay I have to admit that was a dumb blond moment (I’m really blond so I can say that :lmao: . I should have realized the responses I would get to that one :rotfl2:

Last night I mucked horse stalls (I think that counts as stinky cross-training) :teeth:

It is beautiful here in my little corner of the world (62 degrees and sunny) so I will be walking outside for the first time since my injury. No new shoes yet but the old ones are going to have to do. I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!! :sunny:

BTW – I got the go ahead on my WDW trip in May but now the airline tickets have doubled so if anyone sees a Ding rate or other from St. Louis or Chicago to MCO please let me know!!!!

Happy training everyone!!!!!!!!

Geez Kevin. I knew girls that swam those times. :teeth: But since you were a sprinter you probably have some totally kicking 50 or 100 times. It used to be funny watching the sprinters swim the 1000 or 1650 when the coach made them. Can you tell I have one speed- slow :)

I was never very fast anyway but it still amazes me/bothers me greatly how much speed I've lost in the water by basically stopping swimming for a while. Stroke mechanics have pretty well recovered from the layoff but it's going to take lots of time to rebuild the muscle. The problem/dilemma is whether it's even worth it to try. That 5 minutes it may be possible to gain on a swim is a small piece of what can be gained by improving the bike or the run when you're talking an Ironman length day.
Sunny, this is relevant even at the sprint tri distance. There tends to be a whole lot more to be gained on the bike or run than is lost on the swim. The biggest way of insuring that happens though is being able to run off the bike.

Okay the triathlete is going back into lurk mode.

You know it's triathlon season when...
you get wet on all your workouts. Ran outside in the rain yesterday on purpose, got caught riding outside in the rain today.

Hi Everybody,

I have been bad about posting again but I kind of got off track with my training.
I was wondering what everyone thought of running for 10 minutes and walking for 1 minute. I spoke with a girl that has run several marathons and she said maybe for the first 15km run(the Minnie) I might want to try that.
I have been running with two friends once a week(our long run) and the last couple haven't gone that well. I seem to be laggin behind quite a bit.

We are up to 11km on our long runs and I seem to be doing quite a bit of walking.

My runs on the treadmill are around the 4-5 mile mark and I'm running about a 12.5 minute/mile.

I'm also getting concerned about how bad the humidity is going to be in May in Florida.
I live in Canada (Calgary Alberta to be exact) and our high temperature this last couple of weeks has been about 5 degrees or so.

Any thoughts????

Keri Z
