Wk of Apr 2--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Keri - I think Bree and Christa run 9/1 intervals, so that's close. CAn't help you on teh humidity. Welcome back to the training world!!!

Hi guys - note to self, don't take four days off reading again!!! Okay week for me trainingwise, running buddy is on the big week for her marathon, so I joined her for 60 of her 90 minutes Monday, raced 5k last night (I'm getting slower!) and will do 60 with RB tonight - then got 8k race Sunday which should be fun. RB will be doing 37km that day - I remember 'big week', I still dont know how quite how I managed to fit it in as it co-incided with my birthday, Tim's birthday and a friend's 40th!!!

Noteswise

Sara: nice to see you back, hope you're feeling better.

Dave: You don't do any work with ampakines/eugeroics do you -trying to find a nice neuroscience expert to speak to!!

Kevin: you don't need a fuel belt, you need ****s! I run with my sunglasses tucked down my gym top, used to run with inhaler down there too until a nasty mispositioning incident!!!

Terri: yes you can get fluids in the bottles - and the fuel belt ones are also slightly angled so you can shoot the contents into your mouth as you run. Much easier than tipping your head back with a normal bottle. oh, and you'll get round world showcase just fine this time - and at least you won't have some jabbering english woman breathing cider fumes all over you!

Sunny: Thought of you as I waddled out of the gym with very sore legs on Sunday. Did my first set of deadlifts in about eight months, I didn't quite get to jelloised but I don't think I've used those muscles for a while!

Oh and while we're on the subject of the motivational quotes, the one that made me laugh out loud was something about 'where are we going - and why are we in this handbasket'. Anyone got the exact wording? Helen

:goofy: :goofy: :goofy:

I signed up for GOOFY!!!!!!!!!! lalala lala la hehehehe

:jumping1: party: :dancer:

I also got a 4 bottle, 1 pouch amphipod woo.

Did I mention that I signed up for GOOFY???!!!!

:car: :jumping3: ::MickeyMo :donald: :hyper: ::yes:: :wave2: :yay: :bounce: :Pinkbounc

hmm I think I'm gonna go bike to use up some excitement ..... :moped: :woohoo:  :teeth: :goodvibes

Hi Kevin. I agree with Carrie on men's glasses. I use the large one so I have my phone, keys, a powergel. All of this fit in the smaller one but I preferred the bigger size so I didn't worry about the velcro bursting :) It's not a huge difference, mostly a little deeper so the front pocket held the phone better. Both sizes actually have 2 sections in the pouches. Makes it easier to reach into, especially since I usually have it in the back. :)

Carrie LOL over the running in pairs. I carry water for DH in the warmer temps and usually offer to carry an extra for Susan as a joke. She goes thru her water/gator faster than me.

DH should be home soon and I'm hoping to get in 3 miles too. It's sunny out now but in the 40's can't recall the windchill but I'd prefer it over the damp icky weather we had on Sunday even though it was in the low 50's. I'd rather go out in the snow flurries as long as the trail is clear which is funny because I'm always complaining I'm freezing now I go out in tights and 2 layers of extremely thin shirts LOL Cracks me up.

Editting to say WOOHOOOO CLAIR!!!!! both on the amphipod and THE GOOFY!!! How exciting!!!!

and LOL to Helen over her secret storage :lmao:

Happy Training!

Claire - Congrats!

So yesterday phil and i did some more orienteering. We covered about 3.5 miles. After we picked up the boy from school, we went kayaking down a river that is about 45 minutes away. It was very fun and the boy seems to enjoy it.

Today was bible study/mocha day, so no workout for me.

All my workout partners are racing this weekend, so I'm not sure if i'll taper w/ them or try to get a longer run in tomorrow. We'll see.

Hey all!

Just wanted to share some good news about my run today! I was planning on run/walking 20 minutes today, but actually went around the block (yes, we have big blocks!) I ran 25 minutes....and drove it with my car tonight - 2.2 miles!!! :yay: I still can't believe I made it that far!!

I did 3/1 run/walk with a couple of 2 minute walks towards the end.

Today's run made the 5K so much more attainable for me. Thinking about running for a constant 3.1 miles is still amazing to me (the fact that I could do that) BUT, I am more confident that I can actually do it by the time August is here!

Welcome to the club lilouisianagal - there are more goofy people around here than you can count.

kimwim8, great effort. The 5k should be no problem for you now.

My report for today: ran around 5.5 tonight with the running club I belong to. Everyone is talking about going for a nice easy run and half of them are on the tapper for Boston. Well, the best laid plans... Ended up running the 5.5 - with about 1.5 miles on trails - at 40:06. So much for an easy effort, but it did feel good to get in a group run tonight.

My hubby and I tried our first street run tonight and it didn't go to well and ended up being a nice LONG walk. I think I have the start of shin splints so I need to focus on stretching more. I'm not going to let it keep me down for long though. :)

Dave-I still love the socks

Claire-congratulations!

Kim-I don't know if I said welcome or not but if I didn't Welcome!!

Goofyguy-great job on the run.

Woohooo Kim!!! :) It's so great when you do something like that and then rest and go Whoooa, I just did that? LOL Way to go!!!

Sounds like you had a fun time tonight Goofyguy!!! Nice temps?

Beth, OUCH on the shins!

Tonight we did get out. DH and I took the dog (we have a Corgi) out for roughly 3 miles. I'm being good. I have no idea when I started tonight nor am I going to figure it out on the online pedometer. I will be strong and not worry about my pace tonight :rotfl:

I did manage to get more running in tonight. We have emergency markers thru our park and they are 400 ft apart. I ran 2 of them separately then ran up a incline which I figure was another 100ft plus some other areas I ran, so I figure I got in a total of 1000 ft worth running. I can't wait as I get back into training, to run 400 walk 400 repeat. Before the Half we were walking almost to the turn point in our course before starting the running so we were warmed up and itching to run and then we would run 400 walk 400 and repeat as we much as felt we were up to. So getting in a couple of markers tonight felt really good. I did a bit the other day too so I'm feeling all positive about training which leads to getting out more :thumbsup2

Hope everyone else had a good training day, or a restful day off and those that are healing hope your feeling much improved :goodvibes

Diane do you have pictures of your corgi? That has been the type of dog I have wanted for several years but we aren't in a permanent place so we don't want to get one yet. I  corgi's!!

Hey everyone! Today has been a crazy day, but wanted to check in with you all before my brain goes to sleep... ;) Last night I biked hard for 35 minutes, then ran 1 mile. It was by far my best run off the bike, so yea! This morning I met the tri coach for a swim session/seminar - I am still sore!!!!! Oy!!!! We are going to meet with him every Wednesday until the tri - we'll see if I can survive! Tomorrow is my regular swim lesson - mostly working on different strokes and flip turns - good cross training (and very relaxing). Tomorrow night will be a run. Yippee!!!

Diane - great job on your run/walk!!! :thumbsup2

goofyguy - awesome time on the 5 miles!!! Wow!!!

Kim (kimwim) - You are doing great on your training!!! Congrats on your run!

Claire - YEA for goofy!!! :woohoo:

Helen - Good luck on this weekend's race - you'll be great!!!

Keri - Welcome back!!! I think 10/1 is great!!! That is what I would like to work up to for the fall. As far as weather... it is really hot and really humid already... this weekend we are supposed to be pushing 90 degrees. The mornings are usually the best, though, so it hopefully won't be too bad for the Minnie. Is there a sauna where you can go and run in place? :lmao:

Lynne - Thanks for the tips on the tri! Please don't go back in lurk mode - we miss you around here! :goodvibes

Well, I think I will have to write more tomorrow. I'm falling asleep on the keyboard.

Have a great Thursday!!!

--Lynnda

I should know better than to stay away from here for 2 days! I think I was feeling guilty because I have not been working out! Smart thing to do right after I finally sign up for the Minnie! I'll get back on track tomorrow (well, actually later today!) because I have a lot of walking on the schedule and I have taken care of the distractions that have gotten in the way.

pixiedust: to those who are sick or injured

congrats to Claire for signing up for Goofy :goofy:

Helen, good luck on your race this weekend :moped:

Sorry I am not getting to everyone but I really need to go sleep! I really do not do enough of that!

I finally got back to my training schedule yesterday! I was supposed to do 40 mins. crosstraining, but I did 60 mins. (4 mile Leslie Sansone DVD) instead and felt fine. I was pleasantly surprised my breathing was fine.

I am beat this morning though. Not sure if it's sleep deprivation (I am always sleep deprieved) or this lingering cold. I might try to get out of here early today... :rolleyes1

Good Morning Everyone: Thanks for all the nice comments everyone has made about the socks. Don't forget to let me know what size and how many socks you want on the poll below. It would be easiest for me to have all the order information in one place.

I had another good run yesterday in some blustery/snowy conditions here. I ran approximately 3 miles in 33:25 min. My shins are still a little sore. I've been stretching and icing down reguarly after my runs and I have a rest day today so that's good.

OK here's my big news - please sing this to the tune of Y.M.C.A...
G. A. R. MIN
I just received my brand new
G. A. R. MIN!!!
Oh yeah, :cool1: I'm excited for my new toy. Plus, since I was ordering from amazon.com, I also picked up a copy of Marathoning for Mortals. I charged up my GARMIN, and it's outside locating satellites for me right now. I can't wait to give it a try.

Well I'm back to my training mode! I did 3.8 yesterday & my pace was 14:02. Not as fast as I had been doing, but since I had taken a 5 day leave I'll take it! Today is XT.

Dave-that is great you got your Garmin. I know you will love it!

Nancy-get some sleep! Cant wait to see you in May! You're coming to EOS right?

Lynnda-you are kicking bootie with your tri training! WTG! :cool1: I wish I could stay & watch the Dasnkin tri.

Carrie-I love that song. Very motivational. They are playing it alot here now.

Keri- we have been to WDW several times at the beginning of May. And I hate to give you the bad news but it is going to be very hot/humid. The race is starting early so that will help. I'm from the south & it is still much worse down there for me. Keep hydrated even several days before the race, stop at every water/ade stop, eat bananas, they help with electrolytes.

Clair- :thumbsup2

Has Cam made it back from WDW yet? Wow she was there last weekend & gets to go back in 4 weeks! :lovestruc

Have a great day everyone.

Morning Everyone,

Quick question - Do all of you follow a training plan? The reason that I ask is because I have been following week by wekk the Non-Runner's guide but at times I don't feel like it works for me.

The week is like this:
3 miles|Rest Day|5 miles|Rest Day|3miles|Rest Day|10 miles

Now the ten miles at the end of the week wouldn't be a problem because I would very likely do that on a Saturday but the 5 miles mid-week is really hard to do......with work getting in the way and all :teeth: - I wouldn't get out there until at least 7 at night. Any suggestions......by the way this is next weeks plan for me :teeth: This weekend I plan to get back into running.....hopefully 3 miles either Friday or Saturday, or if I feel up to it tonight after the Weight Watchers meeting (although, then it would have to be on the threadmill).

Gotta go.....Time to start work - have a great day everyone!

Jodi

Wow! I *really* need to keep up with this thread better!! We are a talkative group here!!

Well, I got my spinning class in yesterday, and today was a 45 min. run/walk, but I was just too tired, so I swapped a rest day out for yesterday. I went to the doctor this week, who took an EKG (I think), and found something "weird" with my EKG (something about my heart beats different from everyone else's), so now I have to go to a cardiologist-- she said I could still run (but only because I've been doing it for so long, and never got light headed or passed out) until I see the cardiologist. The other negative thing is that I have to eliminate caffeine-- which is so hard because I am *extremely addicted* to caffeine-- it's my only vice!!!! So, I have now officially made it 24 hours without it, and I am tired, have a headache, nauseous (sp?), and irritable-- that and it's still so cold out I have to wear a winter coat :-(... makes for a great start to the day!

I'm just afraid now that I'm going to be told to stop running/riding rollercoasters/ doing fun stuff by the cardiologist!!

Good morning everyone!!! Let's see, this time 3 months ago I was sitting on a plane flying to WDW for the 2006 Half marathon. Wow!! The whole weekend was just an incredible experience, I can't wait to do it all over again. 9 months and 1 day til the full!!!!!! party: Last night Hines and I did 4 miles, I wasn't intending on taking him, but he heard Stephen and I outside (Stephen was leaving to do 6 miles) and he stood at the gate and cried and barked, so I thought what the heck and took him with me. I was a little a concerned that he wouldn't be able to walk 4 miles or we would end up doing 20:00 miles, but he was great. We did the 4 miles in 56:something and averaged 14:10 miles and that was even with stopping every little bit for him to pee. I think I may have found a new training buddy!! :dog: And the best part was Hines was so tired that he laid around the rest of the night. :teeth:

Jodi--I use the Marathon for Mortals training plan and I like it because the tempo runs are done in minutes and the long runs are actual miles. For example the 10 mile week it would be 50 minutes, cross train, 50 minutes, 50 minutes, rest, 10 miles. I used this for the Disney half and I didn't have any problems at all. I plan on using this plan for the full and I think the longest tempo run is 60 minutes, so it works out nicely for people who work until 5:00 or 6:00.

Lynnda--I am so impressed with your training, you are really kicking some booty!! Thanks for asking about my knee, it feels great. I'm itching to start running, but I'm still going to wait until Monday or Tuesday (depending if I walk 9 miles on Saturday or Sunday) and walk/run 2-3 miles.

Kimwim-- :yay: good job on the 2.2 miles!! When is your 5K?

Minnie--So glad that your mp3 player was found and not stolen. So, have you ordered your Garmin yet?

Helen and Carrie--This is for you both, I was skimming the earlier posts and saw that Carrie posted and Helen was right below, but for some reason when I was reading Helen's post, I thought it was still Carrie's. So I'm reading about Helen's (thinking Carrie) friend and training with her and the race this weekend and then Tim's birthday, I thought wait a second, who the heck is Tim? I thought her husband's name was Scott! Duh!!! So, no more skimming posts for me or I'll have people with the wrong partner and the kids--could be a giant mess!! Good luck on your race this weekend, Helen and tell YOUR boyfriend Tim happy birthday!

I'd love to chat some more, but I should do some work. Work is way overrated!!
